Can I get my phone replaced? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello community. I'm curious if anybody knows if I can get my phone replaced. I've had it for almost 3 weeks and it has a nasty scratch on the screen. I just got this thing and I'm going to have to stare at that thing for 2 years??? So, if anybody out there knows if/how I can get it replaced/repaired, please let me know. Thanks.

Send it to Samsung with $170. There ya go.
Use a screen protector next time.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

or if you got the insurance, $100 deductible with asurion?

Yeah. Since the phone is fully functional you can't get it replaced without some $$$. Just be careful next time. And screen protectors are your best friend
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

Yeah, wasn't trying to be brutal, but it is what it is.
I hate having a screen protector on, but I couldn't live with a scratch. What do ya do?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Yup. You win some, you lose some.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

How did it get scratched?
If that insurance covers it, you still have time to sign up for it (30 days IIRC).

Yes, I do have the insurance. So the deductible will be the cheapest option? Is a scratch really worth $100? I usually do have a screen protector on my phones, I just had not purchased one yet. I really have no idea how it happened. I always carry my office on my left pocket with nothing more in there.
Just out of curiosity, how does the 170 to Samsung work?

Yes through Verizon under manufacture warranty. Call customer service say it drops calls. This is still normal wear and tear. Plus the gorilla glass was defective it shouldn't scratch lol wait its just a gimmick.

Nobody said gorilla glass is scratch proof, scratch resistant perhaps....it will be scratch proof once they make our screens out of diamonds with an extra carbon atom or something to make it so

If you really wanna spend $100 through insurance, at least test some dev projects until you brick it, then let a friend 'accidentally' perform an inebriated test to its physical durability with a sledge hammer. Might as well have some fun

Does it count as fraud if he initially intended to replace it due to the scratched screen? I mean we pay decent money for insurance to cover screw ups, such as accidental damage, and one would think as long as you pay the deductible all is well. And they're lucky you didn't get it lost or stolen cause they have your return to refurb and sell. I don't seek to violate any rules, even though they're pirates

On my first smart phone, it suffered a "beach accident" when I saved my nephew from being taken away by a wave. Water got in it, but not enough to change the color of the "water detector". Luckily, I was able to talk my way out of that one to get it replaced. After that I've payed for insurance. I think I've given them enough of my money, it would be nice to get some of it back in some way. I wonder if they would give me me the "Developers Edition". Now that you mention it, I AM having a hard time keeping my 4G connected and receiving/sending MMS.... Obviously Verizon does not need to know that I'm using CM10 atm.
FYI: No body is talking about insurance fraud here.
EDIT: It's amazing how fast posts get buried in the General section.

Att htc one x vs beach

thats right just after a few days with my one x i decided to take my gf to a beach party for her bday, she got drunk and sat on my phone. yes sea water got in the phone and trust me it was bad. phone still worked but screen was flashing. phone works fine except for the screen theres no backlight but with a light (flashlight) pointing at the screen you can see stuff. i opoened the phone to see how was the inside and the sea water completly rusted almost eerything its incredible the phone still works seriously its a very bad mess. i cleaned it with some cottons with alcohol and scraped some of the rust but screen is bust. i didnt have insurance so i am screwed. going to try to buy a new screen see if that works.
edit: i was able to get att insurance on it lol 199 deductible is better than no phone or buying a screen
Ha! I love the title of this thread! Sorry about your misfortune though. Glad you were able to get the insurance... hopefully they won't cry foul play.

Don't most insurance plans have like a certain time frame from when you sign up to when you can make your first claim? Like 90 days or something
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I thought At&T was 30 days, which in this case is good because the phone has barely been out for 30 days. I'd wait a week or two before submitting the claim maybe just so it doesn't look like you broke the phone then bought the insurance rather than the other way around lol.
That blows. My One X lost the fight against a swimming pool so I know you're pain. I had to pay the $199 deductible too. Just be prepared to wait for them to backorder the phone. You definitely won't be getting one overnight probably. I had to wait a week and a half, but it's getting here today finally!
yeah, am planing on waiting a few weeks before i make the claim, ive been looking and reading to see if there's like a period before my first claim but haven't found anything yet. currently using my old iphone 4s lol i miss the one x. without a doubt htc one x is better, and ive been using iphones since iphone 3g

Its not fraud. AT&T insurance covers accidental damage. They cover everything actually, which is why its 7 or 10 dollars a month PLUS a $200 deductible.

besides that the only thing they ask for you to add the insurance is an upgrade or new line and less than 30 days with it.

Actually it technically is insurance fraud because they expect you to sign up a device that is fully functional and not already broken. Why do you think apple stores require an inspection of the device in which you are purchasing apple care plus for when purchasing within the 30 day period? To prevent fraudulent claims.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Pretty sure the insurance covers lost or stolen phones also. because you opened it they might not like that. Dont ask me why but they dont. Or you could accidentally run over it, then it wouldnt matter lol.

Well you should tell the ATT salesman that helped me that its fraud. He told me that even if something happened to the phone i could still come buy the insurance as long as i was in the allotted time frame.. Otherwise they would require an inspection. Dont you think its odd that they dont? because it doesnt matter. At least thats what ATT told me.

They give you 30 days. Otherwise they would only let you sign up at the time of purchase. I know what Im talking about, Ive asked this very question to a Regional Manager (not a store manager). They dont care, because then you're locked into paying $200 and $10 every month for 24 months.
thats why they do it via the phone, how are they going to inspect?

You can get insurance on the phone even if it is broken, they are still making money so they don't care.

I don't think an AT&T rep would be the best source. He makes commission off selling you the insurance, so of course he wants to sign you up.
At POS, you can sign up. Within 30 days, you can sign up with an inspection. Beyond 30 days, no insurance options. Anything else is fraud.
And there's no contract on the insurance. You can cancel at any time, but if it's after 30 days you can't re-enroll.
BTW, I worked for AT&T and reps like you're describing were the least favorite part of my job. When I told the customer the truth, I was made out to be the bad guy.

Do you know what fraud is? Fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain. So when AT&T allows you up to the first 30 days to put insurance on your phone, even if its damaged, please tell me how thats being deceptive. Its not if the company allows it in any condition as long as its within the 30 days.
If you want to call it fraud, then go ahead. Call it whatever you want. The point is, is that AT&T will put insurance on the phone within the 30 days, working or not because you will still have to pay the $200 deductible and the $10/month plan for 24 months.
There is no reason to argue just for the sake of using a term. The main point here, is AT&T allowing insurance.

Not arguing...simply stating fact. You described exactly what he was doing to a tee...he is intentionally deceiving at&t for his gain. You seem to think because at&t covers water damage, that he is OK within 30 days. That would be true if he didn't already have the damage...that's like buying homeowners insurance after your house burned down. I'm done on this, as it's not a huge deal...but it is fraud in every way.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Though it may technically be fraudulent, give the guy a break man. With the high prices AT&T charges (I just signed up with them for this phone @ $110/month!!!) I'd like to think they would cover an accidental situation like this. It isn't like the OP intentionally threw his phone into the beach. If it happened to anyone I'd wish AT&T would allow it.

~$350 for two years seems steep but then again....
It covers two replacements per year, any damage. Physical, take it swimming, drive over it, etc. if it breaks they fix it. period. Im going in this weekend to get it on my tablet then im coming home and unlocking it. Really, i think its expensive but over two years if i dont like something i can smash it and get them to send it off and fix it / replace it.
If your going to use it, go for it. If your not planning on using it, maybe just get the squaretrade warrenty if it applies to you. only about $100
For me, i've seen my sister accidentally drop her tablet. Boom, CID, no manufacturer warrenty. I've seen on these forums people send the tablet in for something completely unrelated and if theres ANY marks Asus can claim customer induced damage and void your warrenty. Im carefull with my stuff but Asus has NOT impressed me with these tablets. I think its worth it.
(Make sure you get the skinny on the warrentys from the sales reps, IN WRITING, and KEEP THOSE PAPERS! BestBuy is great for trying to say "oh thats not covered" and having that paper saying "uh huh this is what the sales rep told me" can save your ass. )

Dont know were you got your price information at, i just bought a pad 2 days ago at best buy, its $99 for one year, with no option for renewal, and $169 for 2 years with the option for renewal. I am not sure but i believe best buys pricing is the same across the country. may be wrong, but thats definitely how much it is in Savannnah, GA. And no warranty best buy offers covers you beaking a device through dropping it or such, I asked this exact question to 2 seperate sales associates. Safest way to think of a Best Buy warranty is that you get to exchange it in the store and get a replacement right away as opposed to having to wait on shipping and such. And on most devices you can repurchase a new warranty on the exchanged device(did this with 6 XBox 360's during the red ring of death era, and with a TV i had problems with) Not trying to argue or anything, just give the OP more opinions and experiences.
I also got the $99 for one year plan, and they offered the $169 for 2 years. I've never heard of the $350 plan
I got the advanced plan which covers accidents, for 169 and is good for two years and can be extended. Since I purchased my Infinity for $347 using Best Buy price match, square trade wasn't really an option for me. With square trade, they only cover up to purchase price, and I don't think I will be able to get another one for that price for a while.
The price has gone up to 416, still good price though.

Insurance advice - broken gs3_ Help please!

Hey guys less than 30 days ago I bought a GS3 from best buy on Verizon. Last night I dropped it and of course it bounced and fell down a 3 story stairwell and shattered the screen and broke. Since its been <30 days I should be able to get protection from best buy or Verizon (Asurion) or others, but I wanted to ask you guys for advice on what I should do and if there is anything I'm not thinking about. I really really don't want a refurbished phone but if it's my only option then I have no choice. If anyone has a recommendation on what insurance plan to get please let me know. Thank you in advance!
I would check to see which plan would cover the device faster. I may be wrong and probably am, but assurion used to have a 2 week window in which you could not make a claim from the date of insurance purchase. Not sure how it is now. Their reason for the two weeks was to make sure the device was working when coverage was purchased to cut down on folks buying broken devices then turning around and filing a claim. Hope this helps.

I used to work at best buy when I was in college. In order to put the protection plan on the phone after the date of purchase you have to have the device with you so they can make sure it isn't already broken. Unfortunately if you didn't get the protection plan when you bought the phone the best buy route won't work.

Whos getting insurance on there New s4?

http://www.squaretrade.com/
Are u getting insurance for your new S4?
I know some people think its a waste and some people live by it! Well i have squaretrade on my nexus 7 and im getting it for my s4 to. I like knowing that if i brick it or whatever that im protected. Some people will say dont brick it or whatever, lol!
So are u getting insurance on it through tmobil or whatever plan u choose??
Yes, I am. I went 1 year squaretrade with my S3 for a great price, but they don't offer it anymore so I will go with the 2-year.
For me, it's peace of mind. For something I use so much, I don't mind the cost. Just look at a couple of the recent threads about people breaking their screens. If you have insurance, you will get a new/refurb device instead of opening the case up yourself, etc.
for me not worth it i never broke a phone ever so i guess i am very careful with'em

same here, never broken a phone before... not worth the $84+ a year plus tax (verizon charges $7/month) plus then you get charged $100 if you break it....
cheaper to just replace the parts you break imo. also ive seen some water damage tests and it seems fairly water resistance compared to the s3... obviously not considered a water resistant phone but chances are it wont get water damaged...
just be careful with it lol
^it's $99 for 2 years of ADH
I'll probably get it since I usually give my old phones to family members who tend to break

i always considered lost/stolen to be kind of useless, for me at least... i never leave my phone in my car or anything, and its pretty slim chance that someone steals it right out of my pocket without me noticing lol...
though i did have a co-worker who had one stolen right at work, and i work in a verizon store... guess what? they wouldn't pull the tapes and they considered it his fault. he had insurance though so that's good.
does anyone have a squaretrade coupon code they can share with me ? id like to get 2 Years + ADH. :fingers-crossed:

Even if you buy your phone from another company, best buy will insure it?How long do they give you to buy insurance from them?

Samsung GS4 possible recall

I just found out at work while on a Samsung technician training the galaxy as 4's are possibly going to be recalled. The frame of the phone is to weak and flex's easy resulting in the screen cracking down the middle. Samsung is determining how many they've sold and what the cost would be. Depending on the cost they'd either issue a recall or replace the phone when it breaks for that reason.
Just letting the community know.

That sound you just heard was thousands of Android freaks frantically googling for a corroborating link.
Do you have any more information?

That's the type of information that is usually way up the food chain. The kind of information that can drive investors to cost a company hundreds of millions of dollars. How is it that tidbit of information fell into the hands of a technical group? Not directly calling you out just wondering as the person above me, is there any corroborating evidence? Or is this just something that is said off the cuff on the call? Because what you're alleging is a pretty big deal.

It does better than the S3:

It makes sense though... There was that 1 guy who has a cracked screen under his glass, with no visible damage to the outer glass or phone so it could have been induced from this "recall". The guy says he never dropped the phone and the glass in the pic proves it. There was a crack down the middle of the display under glass...

I just barley dropped mine and the screen shattered, very weak screen. I hope this recall happens!

A comment made at a technical training session is not a credible source for something like this.
How can we belive this guy, honestly. ..??

Not sure if I believe this but my screen did crack in the lower corner and it didn't take much for it to happen. On another note, if I buy a 9500 screen will it fit to the 9505?

good point but the biggest bullet that proves its bs is that no company will recall millions of devices on an issue that is not safety related. Companies don't recall a phone because of a weak spot, they will recall it if there is a grave risk of spontaneous combustion, or if there is a risk of physical damage to a human being. Recalling millions of phone to prevent people from cracking their screens makes no sense whatsoever. It will be hundreds of thousands of times cheaper if they just replace screens or bezels if and when people brake their screens. I already dropped mine twice, once from 2 feet and another from about 5 on office floor carpet, i have no chips or physical damage to the phone.
In law, i studied that in order to recall a product, there has to be a safety hazard or a voluntary recall because of a major and widespread manufacturing default in order to maintain reputation. Companies spend millions of dollars to evaluate if a recall if cheaper, or letting their product fry people and settling on lawsuits in court. Believe it or not, there were many instances where companies have let their products kill clients knowing there were major issues just because it was cheaper to settle in court than recall all products, this happened a lot more in the car business.
In any case, none of those scenarios are viable or even a problem here.

What was it that Apple did with the antenna problem? I know they offered the bumper, but did they do/consider a recall, or what was the process?

they never considered a recall, they never even acknowledged the problem. The gave free bumpers to clients that got the iphone within the first 3 months and the rest sued and won in court and got a lousy 15$ compensation.
Another fiasco was with the Asus transformer, they did a acknowledged from the start and they gave everybody a GPS dongle for free. And besides that, they even offered a trade-in for the new transformer infinity when it came out...now talk about a deal. You get a tablet that cant lock-in GPSs as fast as a regular device and a year later you get to trade it for a brand new spakin 1200p tablet! Asus are the boss!

thats what make a difference between an honest company and a horse crap money makin machine. Apple used to be cool, when jobs was still in charge, now all they want is to keep their crown way up there, but sorry apple, other companies are going to eventually give you the same treatment rim went through. Luckly for us, it wont happen with samsung anytime soon, and thats what happens when you diversify your business so much, youre pretty much indestructible, phones, computers, fridges, washer/dryers, tvs, electronic components, sound systems, cameras, consumer electronics, if one part of the business goes bad, the rest will eventually keep the company afloat until they catch up.
