Verizon will be Q4 or Q1 of 13.
Yeah Verizon blows. Q1 of '13 is a good estimate.
So do you guys know how to upgrade once this is released if I'm stock rooted? Do you have to unroot, update then root it again?

Some awesome dev out there will probably come out with a stock JB rooted for all of us to enjoy. Not saying that people like us shouldn't try, we should make an attempt to contribute to the community.
It only took a short while for NoSympathy to make a version of the stock rom that was easy to modify (deodexed) and rooted. Roms based off of that will follow, and will also be CWM flashable.
Don't hold ur breath. im sure one of our great devs will get it to us way before VZW does.

"coming soon" lol!
First, the update will be released OTA direct from Samsung for the international version (4-core Exynos).
Next, the update will be released to GSM carriers (2-core Krait, OpenSource radios)
Next, the update will be released Sprint (2-core Krait, CDMA closed-source radios)
Next, the update will be released by GSM carriers via OTA.
Next, the update will be released by Sprint via OTA
Next, Google will ship the 'K' variant (either 4.2 or 5.0 likely) to GSM Nexus devices.
Next, Verizon will soak-test the OTA on 6 devices.
Next, Verizon will send it back to have new versions of their ****ware loaded into /system.
Next, Verizon will soak-test the updated ota on 10 more devices.
Next, Samsung will release the 'K' variant via OTA to international GSM carriers.
Next, Verizon will send the update back to tweak more nanny settings including making it more difficult for third party tethering and Nav.
Next, Verizon will release 2 new phones pre-loaded with the 'K' variant.
Finally, Verizon will release the OTA for the rest of their customers. This will happen around July of '14, right around the time when most people who bought the GS3 will be ready to upgrade again.
Nice ^^^^

Word!
The worst part is most of you are right but we all hope your horribly wrong. Our phone doesn't even need JB right now, we need some updates that fix a ton of problems. Some of which are already fixed in the International versions. Terrible signal and music playback problems are my main ones.
Hope at least a stable Rom comes out when the international update is released!!

Your signal got worse with this phone too, huh?
I came from a Bionic. Never lost 4G in my apartment and never got "text failed" messages. Now unless I go to one corner of my apartment, messages will not send or receive, nor will calls. And forget 4G. Thank God for Wi-Fi

I heard that the Skyrocket had an update to 2.3.6 but it got pulled because it was messing up some phones. I was wondering if anyone knows when it will be available again or do we just have to wait for 4.0?
it should be back soon
The stock 2.3.6 rom is available in the development section., and acording to at&t the update was only issued to those who needed it. I have not read anywhere that it was messing up devices. That is most likely just somones speculation.
No...from Samsung tech support on a phone call that I made

I've read on many places where the update was messing up some phones, and when I went into the AT&T store they said the same thing. Is there any way to get the 2.3.6 update from here on my phone without rooting it? And thanks for all the help guys.

Unfortunately, with any product, there will typically be problems with some batches. At least the issue is with an official rom, but just that batch.

I have no issues with google voice on 2.3.5. However, when I got the OTA 2.3.6 my phone would not stay connected to LTE - it kept hopping between 4G HSPA, UTMS and LTE at my house. It would stay connected to LTE about 30 seconds then spend 60 seconds in "Connecting" state. It was completely unusable for IM - popups 'unable to connect to server' etc
Finally took the phone back and they exchanged, have 2.3.5 again and no problems since.
Was there a radio update in 2.3.6? If not, maybe there were some manufacturing problems and they tried to deal with them with hardware. I do know that the first phone I had experienced major connectivity issues (under 2.3.6) that this one does not.

I figured out that it is the Google search app that doesn't work in 2.3.5 so when you would tell it to call or text someone it would just take you to the internet.

There was word JB would be pushed to International Versions of the S3 but I guarantee Verizon will be the last US Carrier and probably the last of the S3 phones to push the JB OTA.....
Samsung, vzw, and google all have to sit around in a room and stare at a gs3 that is sitting on a table in the middle of them for 6 months. They will literally have a team of engineers and marketing people just sitting there staring at it. The vzw guy on the team will have a thumb up his ass for reasons unknown. Their budget will be nearly unlimited. Meanwhile a few guys in their spare time and no budget will have a port running almost perfectly 2 days later. That 2 days happened the other week so we have over 5 months to go for an official release.
My bet is that the build's done. It's probably 95% identical to whatever is on the Note 2, with S-pen stuff being the only difference.
Now it's on to the carriers, which as we know (T-Mobile leak) some already have it nearly complete.
I bet a month for everyone but Verizon.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't JB disable flash or has that been fixed at this point??
I called Verizon yesterday time complain about my poor signal strength, less than -100 DBm in metro Nashville, and he told me there was an update that improves "network connectivity" coming in the next two weeks. Now he was probably just telling me something to get rid of me, and nice one mentioned JB, so take it for what it's worth.

I just read a couple Google articles that said jelly bean will be out in September for all versions of the s3. The caveat is all the carriers get to sit on it to ensure adequate bloatware comes with it.

Well I just came from the gnex boards and a new leak is out for vzw gnexs with new radios and possibly jb. So I'm gonna say we will get jellybean 2.5 months after all other s3's have it. But oh well....running paranoid android on my s3 right now and pretty darn stable. Also got 20 hrs or so with only 2 hours screen time but I was tethering for approximately 8 of those hours which IMHO is amazing.
Was going to have a couple screenshots of battery life but then playing that new space shuttle landing game which glitches out and caused a reboot.

well that's underwhelming for people who like to use the stock firmware, wonder if verizon will get jellybean out for the s3 this year...was at my local vzw store yesterday and the sales guy was surprised to see a touchwiz-less S3 running jellybean. then i got an earful about voiding warranty when all i went there to do was get a sim for my wife's nexus. Happy to see that error being killed. A couple of areas around Rochester are basically s3 dead zones thanks to that. Not quite as exciting as jb but... enough to make me happy.

This is a Verizon only issue that NEEDS to be fixed. It is bull that Verizon wasted time locking down the bootloader that they screwed up their device... but to people who live in one of the "dead zones" the phone is all but useless as anything except a music player. Just because it's not an issue you have suffered doesn't mean it's not a necessary and needed fix.

The NO SIM error is ridiculous, and I am glad this will fix it. For those who don't know, some people can hardly use their S3 at times. I've had instances where every time I try to send a text for 20-30 minutes, it says sending, I lose all connections (no network at all) for a minute or two, then it reconnects, rinse, repeat. This happens when trying to send texts AND making a phone call. Imagine if you had an emergency and every time you tried to call your network dropped for 2 minutes.
But I don't know what else this will do to the phone. Disable current root methods? Bootloader issues?

Yes, many of us have the same issues, even in great 4G areas like DC. No new sim card or handset replacement would ever fix it. Took long enough for VZW to release this fix.
As usual if you are rooted/unlocked/running a ROM do NOT download the OTA update. Wait less than 24 hours for someone on the forums to debloat and flash manually. Obviously if you are stock, rooted, and locked go ahead and take the update VZW pushes out.

I'm not familiar with how these updates work on a Samsung phone.....I had a droid x2 and when that phone received and OTA update it would prompt you to download and install the update. That's not good. I really have no desire to root the phone at this point but this may push me in that direction. I'm surprised that's legal.... Hopefully they keep the trend going but if history is any indicator, Verizon being prompt was more of a fluke than a new way of doing things.
What phones was Verizon last to get updates? People have been saying this before VZW even started getting the same phones as other carriers. It's like comparing oranges to apples. VZW has only had exclusive phones like the droid line and the incredible /rezound before the S3..For the S3, note 2, S4, ALL carriers INCLUDING VZW had them and I had updates same time as anyone else.
Can someone elaborate on what phones Verizon took months to update?

In my personal experience, the DroidX, Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Maxx. Google would release a version, the manufacturer would have to apply their changes and then Verizon had final approval. Not only does the handset manufacturer have to update for their kernel, UI (Sense, Blur (back in the day), etc.) but they would then put VZW's crap in there as well. 6 months was typical.

Those are VZW exclusive phones. We don't know if it was the manufacturer's fault or Verizon. It could've been Motorola's and Samsung's fault for the delay. That's why I said you can't compare exclusive phones.
I'm pretty sure a manufacturer would work harder and faster to update a phone that carriers across the globe have versus a phone that only one carrier in the world has. Example: Motorola X vs Maxx

GNex was by no means VZW exclusive.Sprint had an LTE version and GSM models were available in the Play Store.
But your point is valid - the bulk of the delay is with the manufacturer putting their crap on top of Android. Verizon has nothing to do in this process but approve - they're accepting delivery of the product when the manufacturer is done with it. That can still take a bit - I participated in several soak tests with Motorola where they are done with the update and they're testing the delivery. In a few cases there was a 2 week gap from the time of the completion of the soak test to the time it was released and that's Verizon, at least according to the Motorola employees in their forums.
The M8 is already the last phone to get the latest update. We still don't have extreme power saving mode without flashing a rom.

Hey now I don't NEED it persay. But there's been many timrs I could stand to place it into EPSM when my battery is low. Its annoying that every carrier got the updates awhile ago and L is coming out and we still dont have an estimate on any updates

Haha I know, it would be nice to have. Isn't Sprint the only US carrier with the update so far, though?

All carriers have gotten updated for EPSM. But yes Sprint is the only one currently with 4.4.3

VZW was the first to get the 1.55 update . Why does xda always form cults against every carrier. Nobody is ever happy...same complaints in T-Mobile, Sprint, and att forums.

Are we still talking the m8? I've had my m8 since day 1 and the first update we got was AFTER a few other carriers already got EPSM. And I was stoked we would have it. Then I updated and realized it didn't include it and was disappointed. Not forming hatred at all. But wanted to at least have the option for espm on our phone.
Verizon needs to figure out how to break Root and S-off with 4.4.3 on HTC phones before they will push it out.............

I can see it now. 4.4.3 breaks root and s-off on Verizon M8!!
3 days later... New root and s-off method available for Verizon HTC One M8 thanks to beaups, jcase and fuses (maybe?).
Sent from my HTC One M8 running Insert Coin. S-OFF.

I'm just waiting for them to release an updated Kernel and firmware. I survive on custom ROMS
So, Nvidia has final re released marshmallow for k1, thanks to at&t tho, the lte model still hasn't been pushed through. What the hell at&t? So I have to do a bunch of crap to get the update unofficially, (root, unlock bootloader etc.) I feel like I shouldn't have to do all this just to receive an update that should have been here already. The only reason this makes me angry it's because my Shield tablet is having touch screen issues out of nowhere and I'm hoping the new marshmallow update will fix this. I swear, I'm never getting a carrier branded device ever again. Looks like I should have gotten the pixel c.
Apply for the US LTE Developer Vulcan 6.0.1 and get the update within a few days - done
It works better than 6.0 too..

Yep, I used Personal and N/A for company and url when applying and got approved without issues. Update applies with TWRP, and latest SuperSU beta seems to be working great.

What kills me is the original LTE wasn't a "carrier branded" device. It was sold unlocked LTE yet ATT bloatware comes as standard and after it is enabled can not be disabled! My non rooted stock 6.0.1 can no longer SMS after the 4.1 update, I have no relationship with ATT as I use an mvno. My text and data plan had been working flawlessly til now! Are you folks able to SMS on the 4.1 update?
