Unlock tool suddenly worked today - Asus Transformer TF700

OK - so this morning I got up, was having coffee, and thought 'well, let's try unlocking again', which has become a daily ritual with no success. Well to my astonishment, it suddently asked to verify my google account, and boom, I was unlocked. So I'm very curious to see if others have success and whether mine was a fluke or what. I had registered my serial number last week. I am rooted and had just reset my device last night (again) to factory default after trying out different tweaks in the build.prop. But I've reset my device and re-installed .26 update a dozen or so times since receiving it last week while messing around with things. Nothing different this morning or last night than yesterday on my end, so something updated or changed on Asus' side.
Hopefully others who wish to unlock will now have some success?

From the looks of it asus finally fixed the problem. I too was able to unlock after a week of tryinv

Not for me personally (I unlocked at what now feels like an age ago, although it's been only a few weeks), but for all the TF700-ers in here that had unlock (and OTA!) problems this would be a godsend! Let's keep our fingers crossed. And furthermore, let's try and deduce if registering the TF700 is a crucial step in letting ASUS know about your serial and update their 'sold units database'. If so, I'd recommend every no-go-ers to register immediately, especially when it enables OTAs...

I never registered with them and yet I can unlock as of today. So I dint think its that important to do. Unless bestbuy sent in my s/n for me.

Color me stupid but, is unlocking the same as rooting? If not, what is the difference?

I unlocked mine too as I tried the tool todayin the morning. hoping this will help to develop more good roms...testing Zeus' Rom now, seem to be quite fast and good. I'm curious whats possible in future roms..

They are not the same thing. Unlocking lets you install a custom recovery image, and then custom ROMs. Rooting just gives you root permissions inside of Android.

rooting installs super user and gives some apps more freedom. Unlocking allows you to install custom eons and an alternate recovery

I can confirm the unlock now works.

B60

Hi,
My brother just got transformer and his serial number starts with B60.
I got mine month ago and serial number starts with B90.
I wonder if there is any differences btween those two, and is he 'safe' to keep this B60?
Tnx
The b60 is probably better, because if you go tinkering with it (rooting/romming/flashing/deleting the system partition/nuclear apocalypse) you can always use NvFlash to restore it. The B90 cannot, but both are fine, and should have no other noticeable differences.
Yes, thinking to do same as on mine B90
Root, recovery, megatron, kernerls,...
So u think 60 is overall better to do those?
I also read somewhere that serials prior b70 overheat and have diff. Screen/color?
Tnx
well, looks like we will be returning this B60
We cannot dock it at all with original docking station.
My tablet will dock in b60 station, also new tablet will dock in my station,...
But b60 in b60 is no go!!?!? Totally strange.
Any other recommendation about serial #s choice, since i saw in store they have 5-6 in stock, so i might be able to choose.
Tnx

Strange, mine is B60 as well and it never have a single problem docking.. docking is all fine here..
i gave it one more try,.. cant dock at all,.. it wiggles to the left and right,.. looks like that middle part cant get aligned or something,...
regardless of this issue we have,.. is there anything else you dont like about b60 maybe? - because we might get another B60 as exchange too.
I own a B60 and have for a year not 1 problem the whole time apart from a little back light bleed NvFlash is a life saver to btw

I also have a B60 but cannot seem to get NVFlash to work. My TF101 recently crashed and went dark, refusing to boot up. I can access APX but it fails after "Creating Partition: GPT" and closes out. Are there variants of the B60? I seem to have a bricked TF101 and would love to restore it. Not trying to crash your thread...just hoping another B60 owner might have a fix. Thanks in advance.
Store has another b60, b70 and b90
What to exchange it for? LoL

You could try using Lilstevies OLiFE script that will erase all partitions down to nothing then re-create all the partitions and Nvflash a rom

Yes some early B70 are nvflash compatible. The sbk was changed sometimes mid July. Anything after the sbk changed does not work using nvflash
B60's dock just fine (mine does for sure!). You must have a bad unit.
probably bad unit, it has been returned
i should get another B60 in 10 15 minutes,.. will let u know
New B60 is perfect.
I even did first nvflash,(was curious) and worked like charm. As somebody mentioned it can be 'life saver'
Tnx

Gyroscope inverted? And another question...

Im having my second big problem with this tablet...
Have you guys used your gyroscope and if yes where, cause today I got mc3 from play store and started it, then i noticed that the gyro is inverted like by turning the device up and down it goes left and right and vice versa. I then downloaded a gyro test app from market and there i had exact same problem, it said in the description of the app that motorola XOOM has a problem with gyro that the x and y are inverted (exactly same problem).
So have you guys had this?
Overall im getting frustrated with this tablet due to problems with strange lag see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774826 although i have posted that the problems were gone i re-noticed them today on for example mc3.
Overall what do you think of these? Have you had these or should i send it back to repair...
I would really appreciate any help...
Thanks!

Hulu on the bandwagon

This may be somewhat common knowledge, but I thought I'd share since I don't see any threads about Hulu in here.
It seems Hulu has decided having root is evil and therefor they will not allow you to stream to a device which is rooted. I don't get why these companies do this. I tried temp unroot with rootkeeper but it still didn't want to work, though it could be the flag gets set for the device on your account and doesn't flip back without some further intervention on Hulu's end.
Thank you for your email, and I'm sorry for the trouble with Hulu Plus on your Asus Transformer Infinity. I'm afraid the error message you're receiving indicates that our system flagged your Infinity as a "rooted" device. Basically, "rooted" means that the software on the device has been altered in some way. Some users may do this to enable particular apps on their devices or to customize the Android OS, but unfortunately, we cannot support these modified-OS devices. I realize this is frustrating and I apologize.
If you don't believe your device is rooted, just let me know and we can investigate other causes of this error message. To aid my troubleshooting, is there anything installed on the device or any unusual settings that might be triggering this "rooted" flag? There are some apps that are known to cause this trouble (Hide It Pro is one of these apps).
Again, my apologies for all the trouble here. I hope we can reach a solution. Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with, or if you have further questions.

If you are unlocked hulu will not work because Asus deletes the drm keys off the tablet upon unlocking. Meaning hulu and some other programs won't work that rely on that.
If you are not unlocked, make sure if you have ad away installed that you disable it before opening the app it will not work until you do this. Hulu works just fine for me rooted.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
ahhh so it's the unlocking they are balking at, not necessarily just being rooted.
thanks for the info, that clears up the why of it. damn i hate drm.
Is this something that could eventually be worked around? I use hulu plus a lot and I'm getting this tablet soon. I wonder of its even worth unlocking for me

I suggest forgoing the Hulu Plus app and modifying your flash so you can watch Hulu Plus straight from the stock browser or Dolphin. The attached script requires root and busybox, but will modify your libflashplayer.so so that it's unblocked by Hulu.com. This also circumvents the HDMI-out limitation found in the current app.

Hmm. I may have to try that when I get my tf700 next Wednesday. Thanks.

Currently I think unlocking the TF700 is not ready due to the fact that we don't gain that much by doing so (more headache by doing so). I would wait after the release of Jelly Been.

Safe? To my knowledge it was never unsafe. .26 definitely does perform better than previous versions, though it's less than what I'd expect from a $500+ tablet.

I meant, can you still unlock bootloader and root after doing the update. I know with my EVO LTE, if I take the ota, I lose root.

I was reading that there is a modded version of Hulu Plus that works on an unlocked prime. I guess the Landscape version at the link below works quite well.. Can anyone test this on the infinity? I have yet to unlock. I would rather not lose the hulu app.

I have it on my unlocked infinity, It works fine in terms of showing tv shows and movies, but the interface is a little annoying and old school. Mostly you just have to get used to the search feature. It is not as easy to navigate as the new app, but if you know what you are looking for it's pretty good.

HELP imma noob in rooting

Whats the easiest way to root tf300t 10.4.2.9? Without a pc. I want to record my screen as i play games. I have docking station if it helps. I also wanna oc my t3 to 1.6-1.8 (then it becomes pretty much an infinity right?) On an unrelated note i have a pantech element that im hoping to root too, please keep things simple guys, no random typing, mostly clicks XD.
i think that if you've upgraded to jellybean there's currently no way to root your tablet unless you unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
Just wait. There'll be a method to root without unlocking the bootloader pretty soon. Our awesome devs will make it happen!
For the record, even if you were on ICS you would need a PC. To my knowledge, no one developed an app which would do this for you.

Interesting, looks like this update has been out for some time. I have only just received the notification. It was released around the time my tab went in for RMA with a new motherboard. Perhaps there was some conflict like people have using the unlock tool that has only just been resolved. I may give the asus device tracker a go and see if it works.
P.S. I have seen the root issues. With the warranty now expired I was thinking of unlocking anyway.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk HD
OK, so checked device tracker and that seems to be working correctly. I have noticed as others have that in the update list I have some US updates when my tab is WW. What that means I have no idea other than my MAC address previously being assigned to a device in the US possibly? Who cares... at least I should be able to use the unlock tool
