Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a new phone, which has:
- Android
- TV out - composite AND HDMI.
- can do USB OTG
- 720p video recording would be nice but not crucial
Now, I have read that the Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) can do composite TV out and USB OTG, but lacks the HDMI out. The Galaxy S Plus (i9001) can do both the composite and HDMI TV out, but doesn't have USB OTG.
Do any of you know any phone which can do these things?

Hi there,
I was wondering if Android devices had their linux kernel built with USB Mass storage support enabled.
What I mean is I would like to connect an external hard drive to my Samsung Galaxy S, mount it from a root console and see its contents from the phone.
I've seen there are very cheap USB adapters on the market (type A female - micro USB type B male should do the job).
Would that be feasible?
Thanks.
To connect any slave device to your phone you need to have Host USB support. As far as I know Galaxy S doesn't have this and can work only as "slave device".
I know it has mini hdmi but is there a way to do composite or component through usb?
So according to the snapdragon 660 spec, the maximum external display support is 4k, and on mhltech.org is stated that the MHL doesn't require usb 3.1 (MHL Alt Mode over USB Type-C™ enables MHL video up to 8K and immersive audio concurrently with USB 2.0 and/or USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2 data.)
Does anyone know if it is possible to to add such functionality to our device via custom rom or any other way?
Also i've seen some screenshots, that show more options in the "pie" update, that are missing atm, like aptX support. Do you know if mhl is existing in the new software?
Dear forum.
Android phones are great laptop replacement but requires a wired monitor signal for persistence. Wireless screencasting tend to lag or disconnect after a couple of hours usage with bluetooth keyboard/mouse interfering with wifi so for repeated work you need a wired monitor signal.
By setting screen width to 4-500pixels in settings/developer options and using utility apps such as taskbar pc-style, leena desktop or sentio your phone becomes a highly usable desktop computer if connected to any tv, projector or monitor with hdmi capacity. Add to this a phones superior microphone for commands and voice to text funtion in google dox. Trouble is to find a phone with verified video capacity over usb, there are several standards and lots of rumors so Im hoping we may create a reference list of known devices with known capacity of video over usb with the good help of you folks.
Main Technology standards:
The two main tech standards are MHL and Displayport. MHL was early available on sony, samsung, LG and more devices via microusb ver 2. Displayport has grown later years with Huawei/Samsung devices over usb c ver 3. The older MHL over usb ver2 have difficulties handling more than video and sound, some devices such as sony Z5 may charge battery slowly when connected on MHL to external usb power but no guarantees. MHL over usb ver 2 have no capacity for keyboard/mouse or ethernet via usb, these must be connected via bluetooth.
Later usb ver 3 standard have capacity of video, sound, power and data, these devices can be connected to a hub with hdmi, keyboard, mouse, ethernet and still charge battery. There is plenty more to add about technology but lets keep to most basic info and focus on a list of devices with video signal over usb as I have not been able finding a complete list anywhere.
- There is also extra hardware available such as Displaylink which requires an app and displaylink chipped hubs but there is little information available so hopefully someone chips in with better info and proof of concept.
- There is windows phones with hdmi capability but I dont dare to mention so please contribute.
- Apple phones may have hdmi capability but there seem to be much rumors and guesswork without exact knowledge so please chip in if you have knowledge on this part.
- Several names/words are used referencing the function of connecting phone to external monitor. Samsung referencing as "Dex", Huawei "desktop mode", windows continuum, wired screencast, MHL, displayport, hdmi over usb,
All help completing the list is higly appreciated, please see this list as a suggestion this far while being completed/updated, the aim is to have a complete reference list of computer capable devices using the collective knowledge in this forum.

I need an android device with
- arm64 app support
- Android 7.1+
- Separate HDMI and USB ports
- Preferably more than 2GB of ram
It can be any sort of device (tablet, tv box, SBC, etc.) but the USB port *must* fully support usb accessory mode (what Android Auto uses). I already tried a Raspberry Pi 4 with KonstaKang's ROM on it but accessory mode wasn't working right. My end goal is to install the DJI Fly app on the device so I can connect my drone remote to it and have the video from it on a big screen without the latency that comes with casting over wifi. The remote acts like a usb host and triggers accessory mode so that's why I need a separate HDMI port.
