I have updated my note (ICS 4.0.3) to 4.0.4 by OTA. I got the software update message in the afternoon (02.35pm IST). I have attached some screenshots below showing the pop up play option in video player, update size (110mb), version information and signature unlock option. It took just about 20 minutes to download and install.
Thanks raghu....

Hi!
I found no observable difference yet, with my moderate use.
For me the ota update fail when it was installing for two times. I got the update yesterday and today but both of them failed. What should I do? My phone was rooted but I uprooted it before update and did a factory reset too. For me kies is so slow.
No OTA available but available via kies, upgrading now.....
EDIT- root is gone and all removed stock apps are back....

I was rooted and upgraded through kies, I do not think root actually makes any difference, all happened is that I lost root after updating via kies.
Also, I was on official stock ICS 4.0.3 updated through kies and OTA was not available.

Flash any custom Kernel of your choice using odin and you will get root and recovery again, the root only method has been reported unsafe, so better you go with kernel way. For example you can find speedmod here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072 , It will raise custom binary count and yellow triangle, it can be removed with triangle away app from chainfire.
Download kernel .tar file, select in PDA and flash.
Updated. Only icon change is visible. Yet to see any significant change in battery life. BTW I don't like the new Phone log. It's almost entirely grayish and colorless
Battery life seems better, 3-4 days experience. And you can use some modified contacts.apk if you dont like the stock one, I am using multi dpi contacts.apk (240-320 dpi)

I will always suggest everyone to download firmware from sammobile and then flash it via mobile odin pro as this will retain root. Basically while updating via kies it downloads same firmware as on sammobile, i mean its of same SIZE and after flashing through kies the downloaded firmware gets deleted from PC so better dwnld it from sammobile and have it 24x7 in our PC so no need to worry when something went wrong with phone.
BTW anyone is getting SECURITY POLICY RESTRICTS USE OF EXTERNAL SD CARD message while switching on phone?
+1 yes I m getting this on left side of status bar as soon as my phone boots up....any idea why this so??

having used this for a few days now, I have noticed a HUGE improvement in battery life
yes battery life has increased for sure plus the annoying handwriting tab next to the spacebar has gone, call list as everyone says has gone a bit bland but doesnt matter and the UI is lot more snappir than before, plus the design of the options tab everywhere has changed. all in all a nice improvement but then it might be me only who finds this to be nice as this is only my 2nd android and i dont know much

Thanks but I already got the phone to work.
I flashed the asian fastboot files just now and it worked, thankfully.

Originally the phone was at stock gingerbread and is rooted , busybox installed.
Thanks for your quick reply.
By the way, did your atrix 2 get the OTA update?

No not yet.i am currently running the Indian 55.27.38 with that update (that changed to new lockscreen) and its blazing fast (after all my tweaks added and super charged) also i am playing with the oc at 1190Mhz. i definitely notice the overall responsiveness and speed increase compared to any previously released rom in the usa or anywhere. Going to deodex it tomorrow and start theming it for a future release. This thing hawls!

Now that i don't have root access after reflashing stock ROM, It should be pretty safe to update it now.
Does anyone from Brazil (or some near country) received the ICS OTA? I'm back to 2.3.6 - just to see how the update is going here - and not even a clue about the OTA. hehe im not a noob on it. i have installed the images from google ( https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#soju ) without superuser, so im on stock 2.3.6 with bootloader unlocked only and CWM touch (this shouldnt matter for OTA AFAIK).
EDIT: oops, forgot to delete the install-recovery.sh so im with stock bootloader as well

Hi! I'm from Uruguay.
First of all, lets make it clear that I'm a Big NOOB on android. My Nexus S is my first android phone.
I've a brand new Nexus S, updated with Android 2.3.6. I've tried to update over OTA, but the phone displays that the software is up to date, giving me no chance to update to ICS.
I didn't make any modification in the software of my phone.
Thanks.
As stated above I just received an update to my 8013 which was already running 4.1.2. Does anyone know what this is? Once updating I lost root and have yet to find a way to re-root. The method i was trying previously fails each time. this way : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv8440QhHsw
Anyone know what this update is/does and how to re root once updated? Thanks
My note downloaded this overnight and I installed it today. I suspect these may be more minor security tweeks. Lookout reported that 3 apps (screensaver and two others, not individually identified) were updated and were safe. I've not noticed any significant changes.
Were you able to obtain root? And if so how?
Sorry, I'm not rooted. Were you using the one-click method?
I am rooted. I used mobile odin pro to install firmware. I set it to inject root, mobile odin, su. Cannot see differences yet, but still rooted.

You just root the same way you did previously. It should work fine.
Is there anyway to update and keep root? Has anyone tried this update with mobile odin pro's "ever-root" feature? I would prefer not have to use the original method I used to root because it increases flash count and it's annoying to have to go through the process of removing the count.
Or could someone upload an odexed completely stock version?

first page of this thread bro
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2227512
as for your triangle count, thats easy. Just use TRIANGLE AWAY from the play store...
I had already read the first post but it didn't say anything about having tried to use mobile odin to update and keep root which is why I posted my question. Plus as I mentioned I would prefer not to have to go through the whole triangle away process. I always wind up having to flash a new firmware and do a complete restore in order to remove the 1 binary count even after using triangle away. That's a short explanation of the whole process I always have to go through and it takes a long time.
If it was quick, I wouldn't be asking how to update and keep root.
#update
Tried CF ROOT again today... It worked! Now Rooted!

Can we get a camera firmware thread going so we can keep track of which firmwares are most recent and which have which features? Also, instructions to update camera firmware would be appreciated.
To check your camera firmware, dial *#34971539# and hit Phone/CAM FW Ver Check. It should show your current camera firmware.
If nothing pops up after dialing the code, try downloading this file, pushing it to /system/app and setting it to rw-r--r--, then reboot and try again.

i dont know whats going on the side of sd600, but with exynos variants (starting with MEA update) the "update camera firmware" option is not needed anymore. The device auto detects the latest available camera firmware and utilizes it automatically without the need for flashing or anything.
Reg this thread all the available firmwares can be collected and can be made as a flashable zip so that users can downgrade/upgrade(in case of 9505) their firmware files if needed for whatever reasons they want

9500 is a bit different in this regard, it wont show any "updating camera" msg on opening camera for the first time after firmware upgrade, instead the device automatically detects the latest one inside and utilizes it for photos without the need for flashing it.

You're getting the latest software, but you're not getting the latest firmware I believe. For example, you can't use the I9505 modem and you have to use a custom kernel for your phone variant which doesn't have the latest firmware updates from Samsung.

Every time I've done it first thing I check is camera. If it says updating firmware I download a stock kernel (for appropriate base version), reboot, flash it, and voila. Camera firmware updates fine. Then I reboot, flash custom kernel and I'm ready to go with the latest camera firmware. Last time I got a prompt was MEA, MF4 did not prompt me.
The only thing I don't benefit from on 9505 side is modem updates. I need to run 337M modems. On 337M side I lose 5GHz hotspot by switching to 9505 ROM. Both are moot points for me.

First of all apologies if this has been asked or spoken about before.
I want to go back to my previous firmware MJ3, after the update I feel like my Note 3 is gone it literally feels like a different phone.
I have friends with the same phone irl and they say the same thing.
And also alot of people here seems to feel the same in various threads.
The battery is drained after 1 day and before it could take up to 3 days for the battery to totally die.
Is there any way at all to downgrade or flash an older version, I would really want the previous version, I so so regret updating it to the latest.
Any good suggestions or comments will be appreciated.
Cheers.

If you update via OTA, Kies or PC Odin. Sorry you can't go back as new bootloader is not compatible with MJ3 firmware.
If you update all the while via Mobile Odin, then yes as Mobile Odin never update bootloader.
Just finished restoring all my apps and settings after a full system recovery. (couldn't wait hehe).
Will report back if I notice any significant difference in the battery life.
Btw can anyone give some advice on battery calibration?

If your phone already update to latest bootloader, it can't downgrade firmware to MJ1. I never try, but base on user report, you get bootloop only.
Mj7 is the best FW yet.
It has great kernel with battery tweaks.
Don't try to go back for older FW.
First you can't.
Second every upgrade has some fixes for more stability.
I have MJ 7. Its wonderful.
You need to di the following :
1- factory reset.
2- go to application manager and disable the unwanted Apps.
It will save your battery more coz you are not rooted so its the only way to stop and turn off some craps apps.
3- wifi:
Go to advanced options and untick the allow scanning option and put your wifi as never during sleep.
Check your battery life then.
It will be double..
I Promise.
