I just dropped my phone in butter screen side down
Some parts of the screen get automatically touched
The screen does not respond several times
did a hard reset and flashed a stock rom to make sure that it was a hardware problem
Unfortunately did not have my screen protector.
So any suggestions
can the touch screen be replaced??

Hi everyone,
I had updated my Nexus S to android 4.1 jelly bean yesterday. I am satisfied with everything but the loss of my turn-off screen animation that previously we had for Nexus S (the oldschool TV turn-off animation).
I would like to know if this is a bug during my installation (the installation went smoothly) or android 4.1 purposely removed such animation? Such screen-off effect is one of the reasons that I bought my Nexus S and I am not willing to see it gone. I had searched the forum but so far did not see anyone facing such problem. Kindly advise me what to do.
Thanks everyone in advance!

Really? Good thing it wasn't deciding factor for me, because I don't seem to have it.
there is thread already on this issue.

Wow. Only a few topics down and you would have seen that massive thread in the previous post.

I just updated to jellybean myself and i did notice that that tv animation was gone too. So after some digging U have to go to settings scoll down to developer options and then down to window animation scale and change it to 1x to bring back that tv on/off screen animation back. Also I kept the Transition animation scale at 5x for apple iphone type of visuals.
The only thing that i do not know what is does is the option called Animator duration scale. I played with it from 5x up to 10x and i have not noticed any difference
If anyone knows a explanation would be nice.
I think it may be the "fade in" animations. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm pretty sure that's what those are.

That's seriously one of the reasons you bought the Nexus S??? It's a cool effect, but to be one of the deciding factors of your purchase.....??
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all replies!
For the tv animation it is just one of the many factors that help me in making my purchase, it is just like the choice between super-lcd and super-amoled can be a deciding factor for someone, but not for someone else who cannot see the difference or who does not care. During my comparison regardless of price my friends told me that galaxy s2 has better spec, better screen, better camera etc. but I chose nexus s over s2 for also reasons that the s2 model in my country could not be updated to latest android without rooting.
For the developer option method it works for me too, but I really dnt like all the extra efforts and time needed to solve these problems, it makes me feel like google doesn't take care of its old customers (my perception only).
If Google didn't take care of it's old customers you wouldn't have the JB update to complain about in the first place...
A TV animation just seems like a trivial thing to complain about in all honesty. Its a known bug on the SLCD model and no software is perfect. And is it really that hard to tap a few buttons to fix some settings? I mean, seriously.

Exactly. The OP put in more effort to make this thread than it took to re-enable the screen off animation.

I just wish I knew why adjusting the rate at which those animations occur seems to somehow fix the issue for some. My complaint was more along the lines of people not wanting to take the effort to attempt to even get into the menu to find those settings. Of course hitting buttons ain't gonna solve anything . Well in most case it wouldn't work. Haha. Speaking of, when I originally disabled my animations, my app drawers animations stopped. Never did that in ICS.
My animation still works...
So to clear up the confusion: This bug only concerns the SLCD version. For those who don't know it, AirKernel seems to fix the problem, it did it for me and I'm running Euroskanks CM10.

the effect will only works on nexus s amoled screen, those models with SclearLCD like i9023...you can't see the effect because the timing of turn off the back light happen earlier than the effect. The TV off effect is actually there, but without backlight, we can't see it...you will see it sometimes, because of delay of the backlight due to hardware slow response... have a nice day, guys... pass this to google team and xda team, this will help them easily fix it ...!
You know when your in an app then go back home and the widgets need to reload them selves its like that but with all my icons they keep disappearing and reappearing until I open an app or lock my phone then unlock again. I noticed it twice so far and the last time I was downloading a bunch of music to my phone so might have something to do with lag even though there shouldn't be any problems with 2 gigs of ram.

Ive noticed this too but on mine they just flicker real quick. I'm sure it has something to do with TW. It is rather annoying, i'd like to know more about this.

I think it is a software issue. My screen flickers when I flashed CNA and BlackBean but does not flicker with AOKP. My guess is that AOKP is more stable and less buggy?
I would suggest going into your developer options and disable HW overlays. This works on AOSP ROMs and it should work on TW ROMs also.

Will do. But quick question, wouldn't the developers of CNA and Black Bean have figured this out prior to the release of their custom rom?

I would have thought so. But then again there roms are probably built from a modified source and compiled. Once compiled they probably flash it to make sure it boots. If confirmed to boot they probably upload the original. In that case it would not have the option enabled. That is my educated guess on the subject. lol
Screen flickering on AOSP based roms is nothing new, been a known issue for a long time. Some things get fixed then break cause of something else was changed.
Flickering
My phone is original. No Root. Screen just started flickering the other day. I have had it since August. I did nothing different to the phone. Verizon claims I damaged the phone in some way. I have not done anything to damage it. If I open the Gallery on the phone, it starts going crazy. Does not always do it. If I use something like Google Earth or Maps and then open the Gallery, I get horizontal lines across the screen flickering up and down randomly. Swiping gets sluggish when all this happens. Almost like the memory fills up. I look in the memory and it is not even using 1GB, but is close to it when all this happens. Not sure what the heck happened to cause this issue to all of sudden start occurring.
So I am still trying to figure out how to turn on that one feature where you can reject calls by saying "Reject!" Maybe its not supported on my ROM (I'm on the newest Synergies builds).
Therefore, I was wondering if some of you could list some of your most favorite features of the GS3....whatever that may be in order to make your day-to-day operations easier.
Thanks!

I've been running CM10 for a week or so now and I have to say that I really miss the tw camera on the stock GS3. I don't know if you consider the camera software a feature or not but that app is amazing.

Yeah I think there are ways you can take it out of the TW ROM and place it into CM10...I'm just waiting for CM10 to stabalize and off I go! I've had it for a few days and seems good! the HDR Camera+ and Camera360 are great too!
I haven't seen anything like that. The TW camera app is what has kept me from going to CM10. I also like the TW calendar more than AOSP.

Believe me, I've tried to get it in there. I've ported over various tw framework files along with it but just can't get it to work.
Let me qualify this by saying that I'm no dev and don't *really* know what I'm doing

Unofficial AOKP Jellybean is working breat for me. Only ROM I've used so far and I have had zero issues mentioned in its thread.
I hated TW and VZW bloat was too much
Personally, the one thing I would love if it worked right is the smart stay. I love the idea behind it, but in practicallity, unless I have the phone oriented just right it won't work. I've check the camera without moving, and I've had more than 3/4 of my face in easy view and still the screen would shut off.

The smart stay doesn't actually recognize your face. It throws that little eyeball notification in the status bar so it will distract you and your eyes move to "see what it is" the camera picks up your eye movement(or doesn't) and either keeps the screen on or not.

Hi!
So, I just moved to that new shiny awesome ROM and that looks just amazing.
One extremly annoying issue tho. When screen is locked and I push power button there is a huge lag between three buttons on the bottom side of the screen lights up and actual screen lighting up. Its about 1 second lag after me pressing the power button and screen being able to be unlocked.
I tried to search for similar issues, but doesnt seems like anyone have it on my sort of phone model.

I really appreciate the work! Been looking for sources to build AOSP 4.2.x or CM10.2 for like a month now, but since you've already built it...
How hard would it be to port something to this device? Been wanting to put together either Carbon or OmniRom, but again, sources are thin...

The problem is mediatek never released their kernel source. So developers of aftermarket ROMS cannot build for these devices, and we cannot port them over. There is a nice carbon clone that I may have ported. I will check my computer tomorrow and see if I still have it.

OK, new problem. MTKDroidTool says my PMT file doesn't match. I'm getting hard locks where I have to pull the battery and restart the phone. It definitely seems like an oom situation because there is nothing in the logcat from the exact moment of the hard lock on.
This is on BLU 4.2 and any other port.

It sounds like a hardware problem. If you are over-clocking your CPU that will happen. If not, it may be a CPU problem. If you are trying to go back to stock, you should have 2 scatter files. Try the other one and see if you still get the PMT error.
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
It did it on stock as well, hence my reason for flashing cwm and a custom.
I have underclocked it to 750 and no overclock, same result.
I have deleted a lot of the build prop tweaks and put dalvik cache back to 128/5/48/512k/2m, which really seemed to speed things up a bit, but it will still hang every once in awhile.
It stinks because there's nothing in logcat that points to a hardware error. The only thing I know is mtktool comes up with a pmt mismatch.
Someone needs to get me source on this so I can sit and debug it.

There's a possibility that I could get it to work again but I need to sit and resolder the button boards (volume/power), and find all the screws that either came loose and fell out or got lodged between the board and screen.

Surprisingly I got it back together and working, but the volume button cable was torn and I had to extend wires from the side of the phone to use to get into recovery, which seems botched.
All I get is the factory Chinese recovery, or if I let it boot, it acts as if it's doing a data wipe (android with scrolling blue line underneath)...
Did I lose cwm recovery?
