HTC One X Bootloader Unlock - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Can someone help me out? Im trying to unlock my bootloader on my one x and when I go to submit the unlock token on htcdev, it keeps failing and will never go through. Does anyone know a way around it? A different way of unlocking the bootloader? I would really appreciate it if I can get some help with this.
Thanks in advance

Its a real pain in the ass. What I did is cut and paste the key into a text editor. You have to remove leading spaces from the top make sure you include the lines that have the >>> on the top and the bottom. Make sure the numbers all line up it's a ***** to get right.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and post back if it works.

Not quite sure I understood what you said, and if I did, I did it wrong. Do you think i could send you the token and you do what is needed? Then you could send it back to me. I don't mean to be a bother about it.

Sorry no can do. I'm on vacation no computer.

Follow these instructions. Only works on 1.85

I know what you're talking about there. I made sure I right-clicked on the first < on the line to mark. THen, clicked where I marked exactly to select. Cntrl C, Cntrl V and it works. I know it's a PITA...took me a few tries before I got it.

Still a problem

Yeah that's another one of my problems, I'm on 2.20, which is not root capable . Do you know a way of downgrading to 1.85?

Wait your on 2.20...... You can't root or unlock your bootloader because you need root to change your cid so that you can unlock your bootloader from HTC dev. There is no current exploit to root 2.20 unless you were already unlocked prior to the update. You re going to have to sit tight till someone comes up with a new exploit for 2.20.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if anyone knew a way of downgrading. I posted this thread before I found out that you root before unlocking bootloader on this phone. I thought that just running a 1.85 RUU would downgrade it but that failed. So do you have a way of downgrading?

There's no way to downgrade either.

FUUUUCK! Well thanks for any information you people gave me.

Hi all,
I was hoping I could get updated on the lastest as I just recieved an AT&T One X and I am also on 2.20...Have we had any progress toward Root or Unlocking the Bootloader?
Appreciate any information you may have?

[htc] unlocking utility

I have been able to create a method of unlocking ANY unlockable hboot, on any device (as far as i can tell)
The method works on S-on, stock recovery devices. As of right now im linking to a specific device, however, if you only use the unlock youll be fine. I need testers from other HTC devices.

I can confirm this works for MetroPCS Widfire S A510c hboot 1.10.0000. It unlocked my bootloader just fine. No steps required from HTCDev.
Many thanks Simon! Keep up the great work.

This utility allows you to unlock your bootloader without HTCDev, thus saving your warranty
Simon is working on getting universal S-OFF with some other devs. Will take a few, but he'll get it.

with the option 1 of his tool "Bootloader Unlock CDMA ONLY" ??
That I'm not too sure about. I was told it was universal but needed testing. Simon and I have confirmed it working on several CDMA HTC Wildfire S's. (The only HTC phones we have access to, currently.)
I would say wait for Simon to confirm it should work on GSM HTC phones. I only helped with the code, so I don't know much about the mechanics of the utility.
Sorry.

If you know batch, you can absolutely modify it to your liking.

No I cannot. Since I am not claiming to be the author (only helped him a bit), I will not post their work. If Simon wants to release it, I'm sure he will.
I will however, give you a hint. Download the exe and run it. Leave it open and check your temp files. The batch file is in there somewhere.
Also, guys, give it a shot. At best, it works. At worst, it doesnt, and you still have a locked bootloader.
GUYS I will tell you how it works soon heck ill make its own release if you guys arnt suited with it. I just need to know if option one works. It uses a temp root pulls your misc img and modifys YOUR misc. This then flashes removes temp root and you have an unlocked bootloader. Just make sure your bootloader is up to date. There is nothing specific in the unlock

I just purchased my HOX yesterday and yes they now come with the 1.85 software preinstalled. So there is a great chance that your replacement will have the latest software or if you allow them to power it on they will immediate accept the update before they even hand you the phone. Maybe you can switch your own sim and tell them you want to set it up yourself and it may not have the update yet.
The same thing happened with the Evo when it first came out though. I had light leak and random resets and got a replacement that had the new Gingerbread update and no root method. Within a week they had found a way to downgrade to Froyo to attain root again so don't sweat it too much. Go get a good device!

I think the problem for us with replacements is that all the developers who are working on this phone already have theirs rooted and unlocked. There's no incentive or reason to find a way to root 1.85. I read somewhere that there is another update coming too.

three: change CID with superCID?
four: relock with adb command
five: run the 1.85 update?
six: unlock bootloader again?
seven: root
eight: install CWM?
yes/no/maybe so?

These are the steps for the AT&T 1.73.
1) Root
2) Install RootKeeper (not needed...but 'eh can't hurt)
3) SuperCID
4) Titanium Backup - Optional if you want to save apps and app data
5) Upgrade to 1.85 via RUU - this will wipe everything except sd card
6) Unlock bootloader via HTCDev.com
7) Install Recovery
8) Root via Recovery

I'm on 1.82 and I'm rooted, with SuperCID but I haven't unlocked yet because I'm hoping that we'll get S-OFF and I won't have to notify HTC of my "modding" activities. So, as long as I have SuperCID, I'll have the option of unlocking the downloader after the OTA upgrade, right? Assuming Rootkeeper failed or whatever...
Thanks!

I agree. Peter's guide is excellent. I did everything using Peter's guide following the Manual methods for everything (rather than One-Click methods). You learn more this way, less chance for errors. One-Click requires everthing to be perfect before running, and if things don't work you have no clue why nor how to troubleshoot.

Going from rooted 1.73 to rooted, unlocked 1.85?

Yes, I have searched all over this forum, but since 2.20 was released, a lot of threads and methods are out of date. I got my AT&T One XL back when everyone pre-ordered it, but I've just now come around to creating an account now that I have a question.
I rooted 1.73 about a month ago and was content, but now that CM10 nightlies are out, I want to try CM10. My HOX is my first ever Android phone, and so I've been trying to learn terms like 'flash' and 'boot into', but it's all still a bit fuzzy, even after research. However, I do know how to read, and so if instructions are specific, I'll be able to do it.
So, can someoneexplain an up to date method of how to go from rooted 1.73 to rooted and unlocked 1.85 to me, it would be much appreciated. I really don't want to mess it up! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
no need to go to 1.85 at all. your phone is rooted so now just run the oneclick superCID tool to unlock the bootloader on HTCDev
after that install twrp recovery and then the rom of your choice.

IDK if its been rooted before because the internal SD card has a folder called root and Im on the latest 2.20 with S-ON.
Is it possible to root it if it's been done before? Or am I stuck Like everyone else on 2.20?

Yup. Check bootloader. If its unlocked or phone is SuperCID, you can still root, and also install custom ROMs. If no to both, you're out of luck.
Check Cid by going to bootloader. Plug in the phone and use fastboot command fastboot get var cid. See the link in my signature for a how to on fast boot

[Q] a couple of rooting/unlocking questions

Hey everyone,
I'm kind of a noob when it comes to development for the HOX and HTC in general; I previously had a Galaxy S II and it was incredibly easy to root and flash custom roms. I just had a couple of questions regarding rooting for the HOX:
1. I'm currently on 1.85, and I know that means I can still root. However, the 2.20 update hasn't even popped up on my phone. Also, whenever I check for updates, it just returns to the previous screen, like there's no update available. Does this mean I can still root using the 1.85 one click exploit?
2. How "safe" is rooting/unlocking the bootloader on the HOX? I know unlocking the bootloader is not officially supported on the AT&T version, and that you have to get SuperCID in order to unlock it. With all this modification, is it pretty safe to root and unlock the HOX? I really don't have the money to spend on another phone if I somehow brick it lol.
Thanks!

Good to know, thanks! I thought it might still work but wasn't sure. I see... What would be an example of a soft brick?
