Verizon released the Tango update with internet sharing, but the Connection Name is locked to Verizon. This tools is to remove the connection name, so the internet sharing can be used in any network.
NOTE: YOU ONLY NEED THIS APP IF YOU ARE NOT USING VERIZON WIRELESS. IF YOU ALREADY WITH VERIZON WIRELESS, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS OR THIS.
You need to have WP7 Root Tools running in you phone and assign this tool with ROOT access then run it.
If you do not install WP7 Root Tools before and you already in Tango, you are out of luck, WP7 Root Tools is not possible to gain ROOT access with the new driver, you need to roll back to 7720 or before and install WP7 Root Tools then upgrade to Tango.

What is the use of this ap? To install WP7 Root Tools, one would need an unlocked phone. And an unlocked phone implies a custom ROM, which in turn would already have internet sharing working on it!

WP7 root tools also can be installed in a stock rom. what need to do is to install it before the new htc driver installed. You can also have root access with root tools in stock rom.
There would be an advantage to using this method though: newer WIRELESS driver, to get rid of that stupid random NIC address issue. I finally got the entire update path downloaded to Tango, so I can look at the new WIRELESS driver and try to make sure the connection isn't locked to VZW.
It did not work for me, I went back to NoDo, HSPL'd, Upgraded to Mango, Rooted with HTC Interop Unlock, Installed Root Tools 0.9, Rooted, Installed Tether Unlock, Gave Root Access, Ran it (just incase it would not work when on tango), Upgraded to Tango, Ran Tether Unlock (successful) Ran Tether (did not work) Retried Tether Unlock, Still no go ... any ideas?
You only need this if you are NOT on Verizon Wireless service. If you have an unlimited data plan like myself, you need to follow the instructions here to get tethering working. I wouldn't have noticed since this since this is a mod I have done to all my phones since 2005. XD
*deleted* I need to sleep more.

Hi Bobby, would you mind giving more details about this part - (a) which NoDO rom did u start with, (b) which version of Mango did u upgrade to, and how? and (c) how did u install Interop Unlock and Root Tools on the Mango? Thanks.
JerryJiang, I am interested to know exactly what it is your xap does. Does it modify something in the registry? I'm working on my XevRev release, and want to include this patched in by default if possible.

Hi, TheXev, I was thinking that no one will interest in this thread, so I did not come back to check.
What I did is actually to run a provxml to change the connection name from Verizon to empty. I did not have source code with me right now, but will update the source code to you tomorrow, it is very simple.
If you are doing a ROM mod, I think you just need to change a Verizon provided xml is OK. This application is just for stock ROM users who is not using Verizon network.

Since I am not using Verizon network, I was not able to test with that, the app is to make the phone to be able to use tethering in any network, but there maybe some additional thing you need to do to enable it through Verizon.
You may already got it done, sorry for the inconvenient.
If you are on Verizon with Unlimited Data, you must dial ##778#, tap "PST", tap "edit", enter "000000" as the unlock code, navigate to "M. IP Default Profile", select "DUN NAI" and change it from ##########@dun.vzw3g.com to ##########@vzw3g.com (keeping your phone number the same as what is already entered). Click okay, and save... reboot phone. No other change is required and you do not need to install JerryJiang's xap.
Verizon tiered data users need to do nothing at all!
His xap is only for people who are on non-Verizon networks using the SIM card slot.

Alright. Here's the story.
I have a Windows 7 64bit computer
+ lg Quantum.
I recently upgraded to the official nodo upgrade
I tried to jailbreak (unlock) my phone and followed all the steps looking at various guides but i could never get pass the
"Uh oh" cannot commmunicate with your phone blah blah make sure that zune is up and ur phone is connected.
And no, im not resetting my phone
Is there a way to unlock after the nodo upgrade?
and if not is there a way to downgrade your wp7?
if you have nodo, than you can not unlock the device.
must make it before..
jap thats right...

Neither of the two posters above me is correct.
To get an official unlock, you have to buy a Marketplace developer account from Microsoft. These aren't available in all parts of the world yet, but where they are, they are considered the "official" option for side-loading apps. This is available on all phones and all versions.
To un-officially unlock your device, use the built-in registry editor in the LG manufacturer/diagnostics app. http://wmpoweruser.com/debranding-tutorial-for-lg-phones-to-hurry-nodo-along-needs-to-dev-unlock/ has the instructions to do so. Developer-unlock is just a registry key; a little searching on this forum will revela which one (I forget offhand).
To roll back your device to pre-NoDO (which will allow ChevronWP7 to work), connect it the Zune software, and then go to Settings -> Device -> Update. There should be an option to restore to the backup which was made when installing NoDo. Note that this is not reversible; you'll lose everything you did since the upgrade. Also note that while restoring this backup will downgrade the phone, simply factory-restting it will not.
The only reason why I want to unlock my device is so that i can install homebrew applications. Sorry i am not bright in technical areas, what does DEBRANDING your phone do?
and will Chevron work after i downgraded my phone?
Unlocking on LG phones works via MFG even after NoDo
yep, Gooddaytodie is correct - almost . Use the MFG registry editor as described step by step in this guide. This still works AFTER NoDo update. I did not unlock or hack my phone before I received the NoDo update.
You do not need to roll back! You don't have to debrand your phone either. Debranding is a change from ATT-US to 000-88 or something other than your current provider and is required if you want to obtain NoDo "unofficially". This can be done in the registry as well. But there is no need for you to do this.
You also don't need the chevron unlocker (in fact it won't work after the registry hack - but you don't need it because it's unlocked already).
Follow the steps in the link and you will have an unlocked phone. I hope you did not unnecessarily roll back yet .
good luck. If you have questions about steps in that guide, send me a PM and I will be glad to help.
Hello everybody,
first i am sorry for my english.
And now, i have bought Samsung Omnia 7 Unbranded with WP7.
At this momoment i have in my phone WP7.5. But my problem is, when it's locked and disabled WiFi AP function.
I tried some "how tos" yeasterday in time 7-9 hours, and i failed at unlocking my phone.
Have anybody some tested how to, for this problem?
Idealy status is (un)branded wp7.5 mango, unlocked, wifi ap&sharing internet active
Hi
To be able to unlock your device so you can get internet sharing you need to install a previous rom so that your os version is 7008 or lower and then you can Chevron unlock it. From here you need to update your phone to mango while keeping your phone unlocked (I do not know how to do this but it is possible). There is a final tool that needs to be used that allows you to access the registry I think it is called interop unlock or something. Once this is done you can use the tools to allows wirelss tethering on your phone. Sorry if this seems complicated.
Thanks

Hi i undertand i want to do this way, but i still have some problem i want to ask anybody, who tried it for tested manuals.
Hello all,
I have been able to deploy xap file up until today.
Nothing changed except for me installing Tango on my Samsung Focus the other day which I uninstalled because it didn't work well.
Today I tried to install another xap and it's telling me to connect my phone.
I have zune running and it sees my phone and it has synced without any issues.
I did the same on a HD7 and it worked fine.
The Samsung Focus has mango 7720.68 with chevron and interop unlocked.
What I've done, reinstall wp7 sdk 7.1 and zune 4.8.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Anyone know what else i can do, short of factory reset?
Thanks
Nope, had that exact same issue about a month ago. The only thing I could do was a factory reset.
Did that remove the chevron unlock, if so, can you still unlock if you had provxml or will need to go back to pre-nodo and unlock?
Any idea what could have caused it?
it should remove your chevron unlock, yes.
Silly question, your phone is not under lock screen when you try to deploy?
Another silly question, can you open other applications which were sideloaded?
In case yes for both questions, try a newer version of xap deployer, like the one that comes with the new Windows Phone 7 Market Place. Also, try this tool http://wptools.codeplex.com/, does it work?
In case no for the second question, you lost your unlock somewhere.
Restoring an old ROM is just a workaround the issue, but if you don't wanna try then I guess restore away!
Phone is on and lock screen unlocked (i can see tiles)
All sideloaded apps work.
The xap deployer does not work (check attachment)
If i do factory reset the phone, will it also remove the provxml that was loaded to the file system, or will it keep the unlock in the diagnostic tool so that i can run it to unlock?

Try rebooting your computer a few times and use a different USB port. Sometimes my computer would lose communication and not deploy to my phone until I rebooted it if you send many xaps that use COM interop to it. Weird quirk.
maybe you have again to register your PC with the ChevronWP7.reg (for PC registry)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
I think the problem had to do with the interop lock

Yes that makes sense also due to the fact that you need Interop unlock in order to run COM Interop.
I've done this, also used another computer on which I used to deploy xap, same thing on that.
Used different USB cables as well.

I had mango without the interop unlock and was able to sideload apps.
I have applied the chevron and interop unlock using diagnostic menu on Samsung Focus multiple times, however, it did not work.

Soooo you have tried HeathCliff thread on how to INTEROP-UNLOCK Samsung phones?
The phone did have the interop unlock, i've even applied the wifi tethering, so i know it was interop unlocked.
Nothing worked so I just loaded 7004 and went from beginning.
Thanks all!
I have some question about developer unlocking.
Since I living in the country that Windows Phone 7 didn't had its local keyboard (yet), I have to install app like native keyboard for WP7 which requires developer unlocked phone and I won't pay $100 per year just to install only 1 app. Also, I know how to unlock because I used to unlock my friend's phone.
1. Is the app which installed via sideload still work after the phone has been re-locked?
2. Is the same app from question #1 still work after I installed latest update? For example, I installed some app via sideload into the phone which has Windows Phone 7 pre-NoDo update, then update that phone to latest update.
1) No, sideloaded apps will stop working if the phone is re-locked. You'll get an (inaccurate but scary) message saying the app has been "revoked by Microsoft".
2) Installing the Mango update will re-lock your phone. For people with legit unlocks, this is trivial to fix. For everybody else... it depends on what phone you're on. Dell can't be unlocked by hacks at all, right now. LG can be unlocked easily via the built-in registry editor. Samsung can be unlocked easily via WindowBreak. HTC can't currently use WindowBreak but that should change soon, although it will be more complicated than for Samsung.
Also, the original ChevronWP7 Unlocker doesn't work anymore, even on pre-NoDo ROMs; the certificate has expired. You'd need to set the clocks way back.
hi
JUst want to understand, when you root a phone ,do i need the carrier firmware (i think you call it roms)
Cause my phone was under telus and i just did the unlock by a web site and they me send a code...
My phone is under vigin now (unlock)
What do i need to root it , the stock firmware ,or the one from bell(since it the same as virgin)
I saw that link for the carrier firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
after i root it, can i flash it to jelly bean
Thanks
nobody?
Your question is very confusing because of the English you use and mixed up terminologies, plus you don't even say what kind of phone it is. To root it, you'll need ADB or Odin. When you root, you will load new software on the phone, typically a ROM.
A Telus ROM is basically the same as ATT, GSM. You should start there and search for the right APN for your carrier.
Get CM10 for ATT. Then look up the virgin APN info. There are app store apps to fix/set APN info.
YouTube has video to show you how. Google for your answers.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
sorry im french
but if im unlock why do i have to use a rom from virgin
Unlock and root are 2 different things. Unlock (or SIM unlock) means you can use your phone with any carrier. Root means you have access to all files on your phone (this is like being "administrator" in a Windows computer, as opposed to being a "limited user" or "standard user"). To use the iPhone analogy, rooting your
Android phone is like jailbreaking your iPhone.
So, what do you really want to do with your device? I'm guessing you want to put JellyBean on it. If that's true, you must:
Root your device
Install a custom recovery
Download a custom ROM which was designed to run on your device
Use the custom recovery to install the ROM onto your phone
thanks
But if i dont want that triangle ,i gonna use that method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
And my phone was under telus and i have unlock it to use it under virgin.
I gess i have the rom from telus!!??
So i root it with the rom from telus or bell(virgin)????
And after that i can put jelly bean without tripping the counter.
Thanks
