It's possible root rogers 1.94 update - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Got a one x from rogers with 1.94
Latest firmware I'm completely stock is any way to root or downgrade to 1.85 thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Rogers phone is not blocked from HTC dev bootloader unlock. You should be able to unlock bootloader and root.
Sent from my Nocturnalized Beast

why downgrade for rooting...?
the only reason to downgrade right now for rogers users (or in general) is to jump between RUUs...
It is possible to root on 1.94, and it's nonsense to downgrade to an old american built to root.
Just push the recovery from fastboot, then flash root from recovery.
One click tools are popular in the states because they don't have bootloader unlock, thus can only rely on tools or do more research than us.

best guide you can find for one xl...for now, maybe forever.:good:

If your bootloader is unlocked, then just flash TWRP recovery, and then download a rom and use TWRP to install the rooted rom. voila. there you go!

ericth18 said:
I already had TWRP flashed on my phone and I flashed cleanrom 4.5 yesterday and I got root! The only thing is not all roms give you root after you flash them, I've tried a few roms and cleanrom was the only one to give me root access.

You just need to flash the root files right from twrp. Google 'supersu xda' and download the flashable zip. You can root any firmware with that, including stock.
Here I put it on my DB.

Stock recovery

Ever since I rooted I have not been able to get into recovery to flash anything. Is this because I rooted and have to have clockwork to get into recovery now? I was stock rooted 1.73 now stock rooted 1.85 OTA
Thanks

How did you update via OTA to 1.85 and keep root? Does the OTA not take your root away? I'm only asking because 1.85 isn't rootable at the moment. Did you ever unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery when you were on 1.73?
I rooted 1.73 then used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to keep root while I did the OTA to 1.85. I never unlocked or installed a custom recovery mostly because this is a company provided phone and didn't want to go that far. This phone is so much different than the Rezound I came from and I'm kinda gun shy I guess. Lol

Gotcha. Your phone still has the stock recovery. You need to unlock your bootloader and install one of the custom recoveries before you can flash anything.

Question of new update with root?

So is there a way for me to keep my root and update my phone? Will rootkeeper work?

Nope. Keep 1.85 or unlock your phone. Root will not work, even with rootkeeper. The previous update allowed rootkeeper, 2.20 will not.

If you have unlocked your phone through HTC dev and have your unlock token you can lock bootloader ruu back to stock take the update unlock bootloader with previous token and root and install custom recovery again . Not sure why you want to take the update the hboot has been upgraded and breaks the ability to flash boot images through recovery you would have to manually flash them from pc.

Rooted 2.20 (flashable from recovery) is already posted in Development. Just flash that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459
If you want to try the 2.20 radio, its posted in the radio compilation thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012
I have no idea why people are always so anxious to install OTAs when safer and easier methods exist.

My advice to you would be not to root. Htcdev is down, nothing you can do until it comes back up.
You would need to use xfactor because htcdev will not give you an unlock code otherwise.

You could force the update to 2.20 if you wanted. But 1.85 is easier to root, why are 1.85 root exploits "invalid" they worked for many many users before you?
You need root so you can change your cid because htcdev will not give you an unlock token while it is seem as a AT&T phone.

I don't see the big deal. Update to 2.2 use hasoon's then downgrade hboot using Linux. If you cNt get 1.85 root method to work and you can't figure this out maybe root isn't for you

stuck at Recovery

hey guys, i unlocked bootloader, rooted the 4.0.4 rom. Now when i download official update ROM from OTA, it restarts the phone upon installation and then gets into recovery. I have to restart the phone from recovery and it boots backs to the one i have.
What to do ?
If you are already rooted and unlocked, why don't you just fast boot a custom recovery and flash a stock rooted one?

Don't install OTA if you are rooted and BL unlocked. Bootloop or failure to install are possible negative outcomes. You will also lose root.

Stay in these forums if you have the OneX with LTE and dual core snapdragon... Navigate to to the android development section/original android development.
Also if you DO have the dual core version, you need to figure out how to install twrp recovery and get rid of CWM asap!!

New root method for 4.2.2???

The new update for the One XL came out a few weeks ago, and I updated my phone, before the update, my phone was s-off, now, its s-on D:
My Software number now is 5.05.707.1
Kernel Version is 3.4.10-g5f4de050
Android version is 4.2 2
Hboot version is 2.15
Bootloader is unlocked
Just wondering, is it possible to s-off again? And what TWRP2 version do I flash for my phone, can you post a link please? I might want to flash it.

Turn off your phone, and when you want to turn it on, hold down the power button and the Volume Down button. And then you will enter bootloader mode. The top left tells you whether your bootloader is unlocked or not (*UNLOCKED* or *LOCKED*) If there is a *TAMPERED* above it, it means that your phone is rooted

You sure? Its very unusual for an update to have changed the security flag. Has anyone else that has updated to Sense 5 experienced this?
Root for any version except AT&T (US) is the same as before just unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com, install custom recovery, and flash SU or a rooted ROM.
Since your bootloader is unlocked, that step does not need to be done. To find TWRP just look at my Index thread sticky at the top of the General forum; or just look in Development.
If you want s-off again, then SuperCID (if not any longer) and try the facepalm exploit again. I don't know if anyone has verified if it still works after the Sense 5 update. But if not, the only way to find out, is to try it . . .

Why on earth did you update, if the goal was to get on CM10.1???
I can't understand why folks are so anxious to install a new OTA, when they are already modded. And I don't think you know why you did it, either.
