Battery sucks? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
just have my tab for aroud nearly 2 weeks and I cant shake off the feeling that my battery just suck! I think that in past 8 days my battery performance just went down.
Dead Space ( balance mode, auto brightness ) and it was around 4 hours? i think 3 and half but not sure.
Yesterday watching TV show ( battery life mode ) 8-9 percent gone after 45 minutes of playback and it was in SD quality. Wifi, sync, gps etc was all off.
Surelly Im goin to test more, but could someone write some values so I can compare with my?
And for the record Im currently running ASUS-HYDRO, but I noticed it when I was on stock.

sounds about right

not good

I have the same problem
4 hours and then its empty
Always close my aps
My firmware is 30

I have only had my tf300 for a few days but I am seeing about 6 hours for 99% to 30% while downloading apps and configuring the tablet. My
initial impression is that steaming video may be a heavy battery drain usage.

I used to think my battery life was bad, then i realised i constantly use it. Try turning your screen brightness down.

Maybe its the rom your running, Im running Asus hydro and im getting like 7 hours of screen on time with 3 days of total usage before i hit about 20%

I get about 11h for web surfing. (lowest setting for screen bright)

I usually spend 10% per hour on medium brightness.

Think people need to take into account one of the biggest battery drains is the screen. Will see very different results depending on screen brightness.

You might have a problem.
I watch 720p videos without wifi gps or anything on and the brightness is a little below half.
It lasts over 10 hours.

Just to prove it over a couple days - but found a Hard Rest (Hold Vol Down + Power Button until the tablet reboots) seems to have helped overnight.

Thanks guys, just got sick so i think ill have some time to do proper testing but 10 hours of hd playback? I think this will be impossible for me

I've had my tablet since the beginning of May and at best I get 6 hours of screen on time, at 0% brightness, on balanced mode. That's with mostly web browsing. However the last couple of weeks I'm lucky to get 4 hours and the tablet will not enter sleep mode. If i turn the screen off, it's kept awake about 100% of the time, and that's even after a factory reset and not installing anything on the device.
Is there something else I can do, or is it about time I get a hold of asus? I'm on a stock device, if that makes a difference.

6 hours nonstop? That's impressive if you get that much life off a charge. If you mean you get 6 hours off moderate use, that's an issue. I get 2 days or so off moderate use.

It probably because you close your apps (if you do it with a task manager), they just keep opening up in the background again, which takes some battery, also you are using the auto brightness which makes the screen too bright. If I were you I would just adjust the brightness myself (like I do) to the dimmest possible (so that you can still comfortably use the device) whenever using the tablet.

Here are my battery stats on moderate use with power saving mode

[Q] Actual battery life

Hi guys, any thoughts regarding Battery life? I get roughly 8 hrs, not the 9.5-10hrs advertised/reported in the forums. Of course, this is with very high use, screen on 7.5hrs, wifi on the whole time, plex on for an hour or so, mobo video playing for an hour, and web browsing for a couple of hours, and some games too. Is this standard? Dock battery is ok, gives around 5 hrs. Any ideas on improving battery? Screen stays at 60% brightness all the time. Plus i have cnn, facebook, youtube, pulse, cnbc and plume widgets on. And active mail sync in the background.

The 9.5h time is stated for constant 720p playback so I don't think your usage is that much higher. I never stopped the time for my ASUS but I am happy with it and I guess that's what matters most.
I use SetCPU (requires root) to set the clock speed to 216MHz when idle. That seems to improve battery life.
I am not getting anywhere close to 9 hours. At first I thought it's the apps I have been running in the background or the brightness, but it's the same after I adjust it. I get about 6 hours.
Dude....6 hours is pretty low.anyways, i havent rooted it yet because of the impending otas.will do it as soon as a gr8 custom rom comes out.

Yes but i do video streaming over wifi. Also my wifi is on the whole time. And as far as i know, wifi takes more battery than video decoding.

The 9.5 hours is for
Airplane mode
playing a local movie, only
display at about 30% based on the NITS listed and Anandtech measured brightness
I bet you can achieve the same if you duplicate their testing scenario.
As for improving battery life decreasing screen brightness can have a huge difference. The screen is often the #1 power usage item when I check on my phone. Also, reduce the checking frequency of any task that needs Wifi to get data.
It's been 15 days now since I had the TF and I can tell you based on my usage - I used up;
12% per hour - airplane mode, play games watch movies in auto brightness
1% per 2.5 hours standby.
So more or less 9 hours usage should be achievable.
I get about 18 hours of constant use with dock
I play with the thing all the time and I honestly haven't ended a day with my battery being below 50% yet.
Actually, out of fairly constant use, I haven't charged mine for, let's see... 2 days, 6 hours, and 52 minutes. Currently at 48% charge.
EDIT: Oh, and I don't have the dock, so it's not counting that.

It stays on auto. When it lasts me multiple days, I can't say I really worry about saving battery much.
For example, I unplugged it this morning at 7, played with it quite a bit today including playing Zenonia for a little over an hour and letting my friends play around, and my battery is currently at 75%.
Hi all. I just wanted to chime in on this thread here. Im a former owner of a xoom and can say that tablet was a beast when it came to battery life. I could have a full charge last for 2 weeks+ with very minimal use all consumed by idle standby. That was something to be said. The tf isn't as good; I can tell already, but I was surprised today! I charged it overnight and unplugged it around 11am. 98%, until I woke it up right now! Its at 97% with 13 hrs 39min. I probably had the screen on for only 5 minutes, but pretty good! One thing to point out that helped me a lot was to always have the tab in airplane mode. You can still have the wifi on and stay in airplane mode. That seemed to make a difference with the xoom. Just my $.02

I get 5ma constant use in sleep mode. By that logic, u would lose 1% in 13 hours on sleep mode. So yeah, idle use is pretty good. Decent tested flight mode yet though.but seriously, y doesn't battery use show the percent divisions like my phone? :O

Its doesn't seem that any of you guys are reading the manual when it comes to battery.
It says it clear in the manual. Why not follow what the book says, I guess some dont read.
"If you intend to use battery power, be sure to fully charge your battery pack before going on long trips.Remember that the power adapter charges the battery pack as long as its plugged into the computer and AC power source. Be aware thats it takes much longer the charge the battery pack and when the Eee Pad is in use"
Remember to fully charge the battery (8 hours or more) before the first use and whenever it is depleted to prolong battery life. The battery reaaches it's maximum capacity after a few full charging and discharging cycles.
"To prolong Battery life, charge the battery for up to 8 hours when using Eee Pad for the first time and whenever the battery power is fully depleted.

p6210 battery life...?

anyway i can increase the samsung galaxy tab plus 7 to perhaps 8hrs to maybe 10 or 11? i see my ram is using more than half and i dont feel like waiting around for a rom to be developed because i cant find any out there yet!
If you are on the older KL1 firmware you can give Garyd kernel a try since you can under volt the tablet to conserve battery.
underclock
You can try underclocking. There are several apps in the market (you have to be root). Also, check if there are consuming too much processor time. For example: I've found that Dolphin uses more processor than the stock application (you can hold your finger on the home icon to quickly check the apps running and their use of memory and processor).
7~8 hours? Lol. Dude, don't expect too much. Samsung didn't change much from Galaxy Tab 7.0.
I was using N-mode Wifi, 3 tabs browsing internet 2 hours, and remain battery was 49%. It may not start at 100%, but I am sure it started at least 95% battery. C'mon, Samsung. I just did 2 hours internet with 3 tabs, and remain was 49%???
I was a user of GT 7.0 as well. It gave me at least 6~7 hours. But, GTP not.
I dunno about that. I'm taking a break from studying and noticed I'm only at 40%. Ive been Switching between pdf's and four tabs in the stock browser (which is in desktop viewing mode too) off and on throughout out the day.
Ive had this thing unplugged for 13 hours so far today, but have been aggressively using it for about four hours total. For as small as this thing is I think it does a damn good job.

Same here. I don't live on my pad but I use it for note taking at work, skittles research, and some recreation and it gets me through work at les than half used. No complaints.
really bad battery life
I have a wifi version p6210. I only get 5.5 hour max. usually 5 hours. No problem with standby, drains little battery.
I use my GT7+ for browsing most of the time - mostly forums such as xda, read news watch short flash news clips. Nothing intensive, no desktop widgets. I use Dolphin HD browser. I have garyd9's CWM + root (NOT his kernel). I have CPU Master and it says the cpu runs in ondemand mode.
I tried the auto screen brightness, calibrate battery stat etc. they make no difference. I also ran youtube video in the browser continuously and it still drains the battery in about 5 hours, same as less intensive browsing.
My original 7 inch GT can easily make 7.5 hour.
I used PropModder (also tried with Blade Buddy) to change the wifi scan interval. It's set to something ridiculous like 30 seconds, but to complete a full scan especially if there's a lot of APs in the area takes 20. So it ends up always scanning. Mine's set to 150 seconds now.
Make sure you turn of GPS when you don't need it, and turn down screen brightness. I just did a long haul standby test and (with wifi off) got almost 13 days of standby time. 100% to 10%
I get exceptional battery life out of my wifi tab. I turn auto-brightness off and adjust that manually, turn auto-rotate off when I am reading, turn wifi off when not near a network and this thing doesn't ever need to charge during the day.

I am running on roughly 7 hours at 78% of battery left. Been using the Internet a lot (Facebook, some Drop Box upload/download) and the Wifi is on all the time when the tab is not locked/standby. I played a little bit of a basic game as well (Free Flow), so it isn't graphically intense. I am by no means the most experienced here, but in my opinion, that sounds like some decent, if not very good, battery usage..

I used mine on Friday for 10hrs,tons of browsing,I turned the screen on and off many, many times, video calls for roughly 10mins,music,games for 45mins and at the end of all this I still had a 42% left.
The device is the P3100 wifi+3g it is rooted; I was only using wifi,so no 3G at all, I also had the tab on airplane mode with wifi constantly running,so no 911 calls.
I am running the latest stock rom,it is rooted and bloatware free,I also limit the background processes down to none,1 or 2 max.
So far I am very happy with my tab, although wifi is still spotty.

Yes, my screen is usually on about 6 to 7 hrs. And my battery life is about 15 to 24 hours.
I wonder those said their battery can stay for more than 1 day, how long was their screen on?
My guess is although the battery can stay long time but the screen on is only about 6 to 7 hours.
If yours only 5 hours maybe the gsm signal was not good. Try to change to 2g only. Or change other provider.

No problem for me about battery on Tab p3100
I felt that having Sim card inside the 3100 drains the battery pretty fast. I was not using much of 3G/GPRS connection. So after removing the Sim, I found battery usage reduced drastically. Overnight, the battery used to drain by 7 to 8% in standby mode with Sim card inside.
I don't understand, how people can comfortable use tablet with screen brightness at 0% or even 20%... it's mystical to me..If you buying tablet, you want to get good screen quality, good battery life (even at 50-70% brightness), smooth performance and so on...I have 2 tablets, ipad 2 and Samsung 3110. I really love my samsung, but battery life totally suck on it, when you compared to ipad...

battery never charges beyond and poor screen on time on battery life

Hello,
For awhile now, I've noticed that my battery never charges above 92%. Additionally, my battery goes down 10% every 20 minutes while using the tablet, which means the total screen on time on battery is around 3.5 hours.
I've done a factory reset and no improvement. I'm on balanced profile and auto brightness too.
I'm assuming my tablet or battery is defective, but before calling Asus I wanted to see if others were having this problem.
Thanks.
i'm not sure if you have a problem, but maybe auto brightness is the cause, if you usually use it in a light place, then it will adjust the brightness to higher, likewise if you use it in a dark place, it will adjust the brightness to lower.
for me i don't use auto brightness, usually i set at 10% - 40% (depends on what i do) and i usually can only get about 5-6 hours screen on time which i think is not normal, but everyone in transformer forum is saying it's normal so...
EDIT: as for the charging problem (never charge above 92%), i'm not sure, if you wait about a hour do you still see 92%?

Well my auto-brightness makes it REALLY dim, almost unusable. In the past I've tried setting it to 25% brightness and the battery life still sucks. Plus the whole "not charging beyond 92%" thing.

8 or more hours is normal, now don't worry and enjoy
i'm getting about 5 hours with various uses, this is my 3rd tf300, the first 2 ones had the same battery life 5 hours with various uses too, i guess it's normal.
but maybe i need to do a battery test and compare with other people to see if it's really normal. anyway even if it's not normal i'm not repairing or exchanging it, it's working great (the first 2 ones did not work ok, i don't want to return 1 more time)

[Q] New tf 700 poor battery performance

Best buy swapped my Prime for the infinity and so far it is pretty good except the battery life is terrible. I read it should improve after a couple cycles but I don't see it improving dramatically. On my Prime I could charge it once every 5-6 days with moderate use in the evenings. On the Infinity I am only getting 2.5 hours of screen time and down to 30%. Not even close to what it is supposed to get and I mainly use just web browser and WiFi everything off including sync and dim the screen.
At first the battery was so low it would not even turn on until it charge overnight. I read this is normal but I wonder if it sat for too long and the battery was damaged. It came loaded with 9.4.5.30 and I have not updated yet from that version. Should I exchange this for another one? Thanks.

Yes that's poor battery time.
Is your tablet's serial number in the C70's or C80's?
Kind of strange it was .30 instead of .26 as a brand new tab.
Check the performance level setting.
Otherwise I'm not sure.
bad battery stats
Sure its poss to get one with a bad battery or charger...but...
install the std jellybean power control widget ...its in widgets... and see if all your radios and svcs are on... if you have 3 radios on and sync and brighteness up ..your batt time will be toast....
if that doesnt fix it... do a FACTORY RESET.... that fixes this issue many times....
if that doesnt fix it.... RMA THAT SUKER...
Im in the same boat...my TF700 can barely last the day w/ intermittent use let alone steady use via gaming or videos. My TF101 can go a few days w/ out a recharge and it used to get a lot of use. I am wondering about a hard reset...did that work for the OP?

I had it swapped for another unit which has a similar serial number (CAOKAS...) and I am getting the same results. The best battery life I can get is just a little over 4 hours screen time and 3 days since last charge. Here is what else I have done:
-No GPS or any google loc services checked
-No Sync
-brightness at less than 25%
-disabled most stock ASUS apps
-rooted and used battery calibration after full charge from 0% batt
-Using Balanced mode, never performance mode
I mostly use for web browsing, maybe 80% of the time. The other time simple games like solitaire and majong. Thinking about getting it swapped again. Maybe the store got a bad batch or something. I am also coming from a tf101, tf201 and used to get great battery life on both of those tabs. This one however is worse than my lenovo laptop and my sgs2. Any thoughts?

To be honest that sounds about right - I get approx 5 hours screen time on mine without the dock. I had a prime before and the Infinity uses a lot more juice.
If it is sleeping I can probably get 3 to 4 days out of it - never really tested but it only loses ... say 5% max overnight.
With WiFi turned off I get about 9-10 hours, with it on, 4 at most provided I don't use music or videoplayers. The WiFi antenna drains juice like a vampire. (the non-sparkly kind.) It's much more powerful than on any of the previous tabs.
Sleeping.. well, it's been sleeping for about 2 weeks now, let me check.... 82%. WiFi off at all times. If I leave WiFi on whilst sleeping it's dead in 4 days.
