Phone gets really hot? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Not sure if this is just my phone or if it is a general thing. It happened when I was playing real racing 2. Is this normal?
Sorry am running the cobra 1.3 and not sure does it matter if I have a case on? Or should I take it off?
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, you're fine. If you want to see how hot it can really get, use navigation, play music and do some other task and see how hot that guy gets. I would get a battery temp widget to see just how hot it gets.

Yup, its perfectly normal man

yes it is. Dont worry it wont burn your pocket. lol

I think my phone is overheating...

When I use the phone to play a game or web browse it starts to get really hot on the top half of the screen.

Is there anyway that I can to see if the phone is overheating/getting too hot?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
How hot is it getting? I'm pretty sure every smartphone experiences some kind of heat from gaming or streaming videos specially when you are charging it at the same time.

I mean just web browsing it is burning my hand. It only is the top half.

Any apps running in the background besides using the browser? Have you rebooted your device?

No and the phone does not get nearly as hot on wifi. Really odd. Also the phone was overcloaked before but I pushed it back to just 1ghz. My phone burning me for using the browder out is not cool though. Think there is an issue?

Well there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the device since you said you put it back to 1 ghz. Really odd if you ask me. Maybe its a battery problem? Sometimes defective batteries cause overheating and can explode.

It only gets hot when I use Japan too. Never on wifi. (Well it does a little playing games) I think I will call customer support tomorrow.

And it is not getting hot where the battery is.

I'd recommend you flash and reinstall the ROM on your phone. Sounds to me like you've still go some of the old performance updates kicking in making the device hotter!
For me your temperatures are pretty normal. When I am not gamimg my max was 91F!!

Since you claim to have been able to move around the CPU frequency, I assume you are running setCPU. In setCPU you can look at Info tab where under the battery header it also displays the battery tempt. It's normal for the phone to heat while you are charging, on call for long or gaming for long duration but if you are seeing absurdly high reading for the battery tempt, then you better have it checked.
Hmm I had a overheating issue last night, woke up to my phone making a loud noise - I had set setCPU to make a noise when it goes over 40C and it did this today in the early hours of the morning whilst it was charging.
No processes were running other than the normal Live Wallpaper, Keyboard etc.. The phone was quite hot to the touch as well, so I just turned it off.
Weird thing is I have another profile in setCPU to have the max freq at 800Mhz and lowest 100Mhz when the screen is off so don't know how it got so hot?

Bad battery life and heating issues

I have been getting pretty bad battery life. Starting at 60% battery I watch a YouTube video for 7 min and browse web for 2 min. Then my battery is at 40%. I am running cleanrom 2.4 btw with no dual core mod. Also after the 7 min of YouTube the portion right under the camera got really hot, even hotter than my atrix 4g. Is it just a bad flash? As I have heard some people that after relocking ruu then unlocking that battery issues have been fixed.

One thing to add, I am still on my first charge cycle after getting the phone. Should I run it dry first and see?

My phone runs hot when using GPS navigation after a few minutes...so hot that I turned off GPS for few minutes...so its probably a combination of both the ROM and the phone runs hot anyway under certain conditions (in my case anyways).
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I don't have GPS enabled nor autosync. But interestingly I rebooted and killed all apps in recent apps menu and watching video remained only the slightest bit warm, perhaps only warm because of.my hands. Hmmm, this leads me to believe that multitasking may have some memory leakage of some sort. As I did not run into this issue with previous android phones.

HELP!!!!!

my one x started going crazy yesterday, pressing its own buttons and what not. i rebooted and it stopped. now today its doing it again and it wont stop no matter what. i tried nandroid, factory resetting. can i use kennethpenns stock 1.85 update tool to go back stock in case i have to send it in? how does that work? does anyone have any advice?
is it the capacitive buttons? do you have a really tight case on the phone by any chance?
no gunny, phones naked and has never been dropped or seen water... havent really flashed anything in the last 5-6 days... its throughout the system... even happens in twrp, no matter what rom im using.... when i get home ill try to get an official update and see what happens... but i did notice its mainly in one spot, mainly middle right of the screen... example would be in the calculator app in portrait, it keeps pressing the number 6
Weird. Hope you get an easy fix.

Maybe it doesn't get any easier than this, it felt hot so I turned my CPU freq wayyyy down... Started working right. Now I have it at normal levelsvand its fine? What the hell? Its the first hiccup this phone ever had... Certainly is weird.. wanted to add also, tried to flash roms I had, it kept saying failed.... Would it be a good idea to save my pics on computer and completely erase the sdcard?

Were you using a ROM that was OC'd, or did you have your phone overclocked on an unusually high level?
No bro... Running h8's CM10... Minimum 384, Max 1512 on demand... I tell you what though, I am at work (welder) and in south Louisiana it was 92° and 85% humidity lol. Maybe there was condensation inside? Oh well, seems all is well now... But then again, I thought the same thing when it briefly happened to me yesterday.....

OK now I'm just aggravated... I pretty much narrowed it down to the heat. As long as I was in the shop working my phone would go nuts. I would go sit in the office for a while and it would pretty much be normal... back to the shop and it goes nuts... now I'm off of work at the house, waiting to prove to my wife why I couldn't call or text today and my phone is making me look like a dumbass lol. Its working fine.... wtf phone make up your mind!!!

best way is to relock and ruu
and use stock for a while see if it happens again..
if so...go exchange lol
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
That's what I'm looking to do... but Im Trying to read up on relocking before I try first.. never done it yet and I don't know anything about adb and fast boot, much less to ruu. But what's the odds of art or HTC rejecting me because of the boot loader stating "relocked"? Or was this fixed? And also what's the odds of rerooting? Should be good as long as I ruu 1.85 I believe.. that's what I was on when I rooted
Once you unlocked you can always unlock again. I wrote a adb primer. It's a sticky in general.

Gunnyman I often wonder what would happen to my poor phone if you weren't around lol... thanks, I must have skimmed over it in a frenzy looking for tools to relock and ruu..
I've been off of work for 3 hours now and my phone hasn't had one single glitch. So I'll give it one more day to see how she acts. I have everything downloaded ready to roll if it happens again... she acts up and I'll have to knock her down a few notches

Yea... the day it was doing it really bad I pretty much kept it on the charger BC it was draining my batter like crazy. But I tried all kinds of stuff on and off the charger. Guess it has to do with the temp and the humidity..

Overheat question...

Does anyone know the cpu shut down temp on the evita.I'm running sense 5 rom and was playing bubble witch and the phone jumped up to 163°. Thought about putting my coffee on it to warm my cup, but seriously I'm using no frills cpu to lower core min back to 384. And this thing still heats up like crazy
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Wow I've never had it jump that high, highest I've been was about 144f. I had a look around but can't find your answer sorry.
Sent from my Evita
I assume it will throttle at some point and then eventually shutdown when it hits maybe 75C (167F) or higher. Your battery might be going out, or were you doing something that demanded the CPU

I'll give that a try as well I'm gonna let it heat up once more so I can get a logcat and see if it gives any hints
Edit: that worked running at 109° steady with heavy game use.. thanks

Hot to touch

Anyone else's getting hot to touch after bit of use? I took off my dot case after fifteen minutes of use and the back was almost too hot to touch. Even with the case off it never cooled down. I'll check my wife's phone to compare tonight.

This! I have the incipio dual pro case which is basically 2 cases in one and still doesn't get hot after 15+ minutes of straight dead trigger 2 gaming full graphics! While connected to 4g LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
This is the first device I've used that does not get hot, I would exchange

same here
Can install GSam battery monitor for free. Nice to see battery info in the drop down notification screen and will tell you how hot the battery is. People can have different "opinions" on the definition of hot but this way will give you an actual number. Under heavy use my device gets to 97 degree F. Believe that is the highest i've seen it get so far. Will try and play some dead trigger 2 for a solid 15min or so and check battery temp, that will get it high if anything else would!
I can say though coming from an HTC One X+ with overclocked Tegra 3 chip, that phone got up to 120 degrees F, that is freaking hot! Not a bunk device, just made with poor design as the Tegra 3 chip was never made for mobile devices, especially overclocked. Got in over my head with that device!
My silver model gets toasty with moderate use. My brothers grey is always ice cold though.

Well according to the battery monitor my phone was dropping voltage ridiculously high so I'm going to install a battery monitor and keep an eye on it and see if I can duplicate the problem I'm still not sure what it was but I do know that I was in an area that should have had 4G in the highest setting I got was 3G not sure if that causes an issue or not but it's something I'll keep an eye out

I can tell my phone will get slightly warm after some use but nothing crazy.
I have the grey model and it definitely gets warm after some heavy use. I was slightly disappointed by this because I remember reviews said it would never get even remotely warm. Its about on par with how warm my M7 got. I definitely wouldn't say it gets too hot to the point where I couldn't keep it in my hand for an extended period of time though.
I know I said that mine stays cool. With heavy use like gaming while charging, it gets a little warm, however no where near the level the lumia icon got. I'd have to put that brick down every 10 min or so and let it cool because it got to hot to touch.
