Mike doesn't make any sense 4 roms or any senseless roms does he? Thanks!!!

No, he doesn't He fixes up stock roms to make them work better.

PLEASE use the help thread instead of spamming the boards with basic question topics. I've seen far more threads started by you than anyone else recently. I also remember you being asked to use it/search function before too. Your questions will get answered there just the same.

Looking at his nickname, this thread and Thanks, I can't tell if he's really that stupid, or just making **it from all of us.

Cyanogen would be an example, or using miui, etc.
I use arhd, mainly cause it gives a fairly stock style ROM with improvements.

m0narx - duh he is tweaks legend!!
j4n87 - another tweaker who started the leedroid tweaks thing
baadnewz - has done a collection of mods over the years, most famous is probably the camera mod for GB
memnoc - ported CDT Tools to sensation for his sense 4 roms
Vorbeth - got CM9 working device tree
Showp and faux - kernel developers
SebastianFM - kernel dev and got USB Host working
Frankly the list goes on but they all share one thing in common, they work with code and actually develop stuff rather than just push out kitchen made ROMs

i thought being a dev meant building from source
as far as i know, HTC doesnt release source code, and some of those people you listed are sense-chefs. is it easier to port or to tweak?
do you think its easier to open a rom and tweak certain files than it is to simply compile from source and do nothing else?
if you open a zip, tweak certain files, then repackage the zip.. youre a chef?
but if you release your tweak as a separate tweak/mod youre a dev?
help me differentiate more, please. do you build your own roms from source and use your own tweaks/mods?

Building and editing source code is developer work so a lot of the true developers work on AOSP based stuff - like vorbeth, cyanogen + the rest of CM team and tripnraver for examples
Because of the very nature of kernel development the people who hack/edit kernels are pretty much all developers.
However with sense roms we can decompile the apks into either smali or pure java spource using apktool and virtuous ten studio. This means we can edit the htc code and create new stuff like the venom tweaks, cdt tools and leedroid tweaks which add more functionality into roms like apm and eqs. Those things require knowledge of developing or,'hacking' and thus make those responsible for creating those additional features developers.
Its definatly easier to port stuff than create the original version of tweaks - I know because im leading the project of porting the leedroid tweaks to the 3.33 base and its hard because much more code has been changed for this base than in previous ones but nowhere near as hard as creating the original code for the tweaks.
Some devs have their own rom like venom team but they are still devs because they are creating new features for that specific rom.
Chefs are people who cook roms without actually modifying the look or underlying code of the rom. Though of course if the rom is a port then said rom maker would probably be called a dev because it takes a lot of changing of files and using logcat to get a port running at stable functionality.
It requires more knowledge and is harder to download and compile source code than open up a rom or ruu, change a few things then reupload as a new rom.
I dont build roms from source (yet) mainly because im still reading and learning about it though fortunatly it is a lot easier for me to learn than most other people because I am a flash developer who developed code intensive flash actionscript themes for my old phone - samsung tocco lite and actionscript and java are both object orientated so I understand a fair bit of code - (also I like the Sense UI more than AOSP) but I have done a fair amount of apk smali hacks and ports.
I use a lot of my own work in my sense roms but then I also use others work like leedroid tweaks in my roms as well (with credits given ofcourse)

How's that coming along? I aquired a Sensation today, and am interested in a similar effort, or a ground-up AOSP. I checked the htcdev site and found multiple kernel tarballs with no clear indication of which one was for my device. I'll have to crack them open and hope there's some info in there. Still unclear on what non-AOSP source outside of the kernel I might need for an AOSP effort. May just pull down the CM source instead...

chaoz tried including the wifi module you use in the kernel in the system/lib folder? can't find it there on the newest kernel. This messed things up for tristan earlier
Oh crap, forgot to supply the bcr4329.ko indeed.
I'm going to try to get a running 3.0 by tonight, if I don't have it finished this evening, I'll upload the WiFi module from the build (using 2 different OS's to work on, Linux for compiling, and Windows for everything else, and working in Win is much easier for me ;p)
Edit: beginning with the really lame methods of getting 3.0 to run, first attempt is done I think, just copied over files, and modified some of them, nothing really special, starting compiling in 5 minutes.
I flashed over p2 with the camera fix and the camera no longer works. Should I reapply the camera fix?

Chaosz-X first of all, thanks for the work you've done so far. I believe i can port it over to the n1 using the zip you uploaded. Second, please learn git so you can push your changes to github. [REQUEST] Custom Sense kernel

Now that we have an unlocked bootloader, we can get some real work done.
We already have a "custom" kernel for AOSP ROMs (ie. SuperOSR) that has an added CPU governor and tweaks to get it to boot. However, I personally prefer Sense ROMs and some of the apps that HTC include.
I've tried getting a kernel to compile myself, but the source from htcdev.com doesn't compile for me, and when I use SuperOSR source, I either get loads of glitches on Sense ROMs, or it just doesn't boot after I try modding the CPU values.
So I'd like to politely request if someone could possibly compile a kernel that works with stock Sense ROMs with some added features (a few examples of possible features here, and maybe some basic additions like a slight CPU overclock [this is where my compiles refused to boot], swap, BFS CPU scheduler, additional I/O schedulers, and any other performance-enhancing tweaks).
Developments like this would guarantee to get us out of the Legacy & Low Activity Devices section and back onto the main board
ooh i wish to have developments on chacha, im a flasholic ..every couples of hours i check the threads if there is somthing new, the development is so slow due to limited numbers of developers that have chacha that are working on it and realy big thanks and respect of those developers for their efforts,i wish if i was a developer to help .hmm can we seek for other phones developers(as sensation or cyanogenmod) to have their help and support in developing kernals and custom roms or tweaks for the little chacha ? is it difficult to ask help ? i can join the team as beta testers

Oh no, really, doesn't matter at all, I'm trying to get a mod to give demkantor a post under the OP anyway, so we can move stuff around then.
On a general note to everyone, do people want versions of Android in ascending or descending order? i.e. ascending (from cupcake through to Jelly bean) or descending (from Jelly bean down to cupcake)?
I say newest first, as people probably want to see what's newest right away. Also the older stuff is all linked in the rom bible

the rom bible is realy complete up to early 2011 or so, since then most roms have been froyo and up, actualy the rom bible probably has everything ecliar and older so if we start with the latest people can have the all in one place for roms that have never been listed before. As we get time we can link it all!

Actually demkantor mentioned a cleanup as well there, so maybe consider what you want and then self report the thread and let us know.

Definitely!
It's hard to find the newest roms, not that there are many anymore. They tend to get buried by posts to old roms.
Maybe starting up that site again would be a good idea?
It'll be a lot more flexible than this :|
If you think so, we have two choices on how to do it:
1. phpbb (authorship will get awkward, since original devs arent around to post their roms)
2. html (will be the most flexible, but also most difficult )
and *sigh*
3. Me and my friend (a php coder) code a web platform for this specific purpose. This is by far the best way, but will take the most time and effort.
I see what you mean, this is proving difficult to make more widely editable. Also sorry for the gaps, I haven't had much time to work on this.
