[APP] on{X} beta by Microsoft for Android - Android Apps and Games

Has anyone messed around with this app? It's developed by Microsoft and it allows users to create "recipes" to automate tasks on your phone; like When receiving a call while driving, automatically send a text saying "I will call you back later, I'm driving."
This app is similar to that of ifttt.com. Check it out...

To bad Facebook is needed. I'd try it if it didn't need that.

I did try that a month back.. good idea, but it didn't work for me.. I didn't receive any message when the rule was successful

No they don't. Only followers have Facebook.. Most of the people I know, don't have a Facebook as we think it's stupid as we have phones and email and cars. We communicate in those ways and see no need to have a Facebook.

Well it's convenient to have Facebook as many sites allow you to use Facebook as an openid like provider. Of course Google allows you to do that too now but you get my point.
Also people with Facebook > people with hotmail /live id, and that's mainly why ms chose Facebook. Also don't forget that ms gets free advertising for onx that way. I'm confident that once it gets out of beta it will provide multiple authentication ways. At least that's my opinion

It's social networking. It's not to replace your phone, email it car.
Followers? Get real. Just because you dislike it, doesn't give you any right to judge it's users.

I've actually been wanting to give this app a try lately. I would like to be able to have my phone go from Silent/Vibrate to Full Volume when I'm driving and back to Silent/Vibrate when I'm not. I'll give it a look whenever I get a chance.
On a sort of separate note, has anyone ported Motorola's Smart Actions to all android devices yet?

Honestly, what can this do that Tasker can't? AlI see is that {x} lets you create your Automations/Tasks on the computer or online. Tasker is far superior and has been around for ages with constant development. Tasker now even allows you to create standalone apps from anything you create in Tasker (so you can share your automation's with phones that do not have Tasker). I don't think this {x} app is gonna get any traction since the market already has a really good product that does the same thing.

[Q] Why is the android facebook so terrible?

Who do we have to contact to get a decent Facebook app?? I don't use it all the much but when I do use it it makes me want to cry... lol
I wonder the same thing, you get linked to the mobile website to do just about anything, so what purpose is the app serving? it's a complete fail compared to the iphone version
... because the iPhone version gets all the attention ... which is a shame.
I've been using the "touch" version of Facebook and it's great.
Just be glad it isn't the Windows Mobile (not even made by Facebook, but Microsoft) version I was using before I jumped shipped to Android. eewwwwwww
haha but honestly there are more android users now than iphone... you would think they would start to do something about it... I almost never get notifications... fail.... haha
I agree is horrible if I wanna use browser I wouldn't need I'm app pointless I rather use the browser why do I need an app that's gonna take space and still gonna send me to the browser I rather go straight so I don't waste time.

You might want to check your math on that one. Just because Android has started outselling iOS in recent months doesn't mean there are more people using it.

So true. I miss my notifications. Then when I click on the app notifications it takes me to the mobile version of Facebook instead of the app version. It makes no sense. You also can't click on a persons profile pic, it'll take you to their profile as opposed to their pick.

I think blackberry has a better app than the iphone .. but that's just preference!
And to the people not getting notifications.. are you guys sure you have auto sync enabled :| .. and what is your interval set to see if you toasted a notification? 15min? 2hours?

The notifications on the iPhone facebook were realtime, meaning there was no check or if there was it was about a 2 minute check. Perhaps that's AT&T's handywork.

P.S. I hope they update this app, its buggy and lacks some pretty basic functionality.

Yes, the app sucks big time, especially compared to the iOS version. Does facebook even make the android app? I thought I read at one point some 3rd party company made it. That the only ones facebook makes are the Blackberry and iOS versions.
But no way there are more android users than iOS. Its not even close. Android is finally selling more phones than iphones, but that doesnt even include ipod touches, or ipads. Also, iphone had a huge lead in total users. At the pace they're both going at, it will be years before android surpasses iOS in total users.

Yes, the iphone version used push notifications, so the alerts were in real time. The android version you have to set the check interval. MAybe that will change once 2.2 becomes more universally adopted because 2.2 now has something similar to push notifications.
All it really needs is Video Upload and to stop redirecting you to the browser.

No that is a completely different dev group. The dev group that made the project he posted is wp7android started by the red drake and others. BTW i would not recommend trying the one he posted anyways because half of the features are missing in it. Its not hard to become part of the beta group. All you have to do is go over to wp7android.com (better hurry though because we are changing sites) and donate to the paypal account linked to the page. After that just email your paypal confirmation code to mafteiu vlad (he is in the contacts) or just pm "The Red Drake" here on XDA. After this he will send you the apk's or the code to unrar them from the website. Once you have donated once you get all the apps/updates/rom(once its out)/etc. You do not have to donate much just a generous amount.

Well you are entitled to your own opinion.....but your opinion is wrong. You are basing your thoughts on betas and lite versions of the apps. Also, seeing as the projects are updated all the time, my guess is that you have not updated in a while meaning that you do not truly know how the project is now. If you would let me know what you thought sucked about it we could work to resolve those issues but frankly one troll saying "wp7android sucks" is not going to stop the project. Some real great stuff is in the works right now to make this a fantastic project. One thing (I can't release all the info but i can say a few things) is that we are currently working with amazon. We have their support (i can not go into detail about what they are supporting) and with what they have already and will be providing in the future, this could be a groundbreaking prject.
This is a horrible app probably the worst contacts app I have ever used! Coming from an actual WP7 device this is just terrible!

Well because most of our betas are close to release quality, but we are a very small group with limited resources, and hey we gotta make money somehow lol But you do not just pay to test beta, because you get the actual apps once they are released also. Plus if you go on our site and request apps to be themed/made we attempt to get a dev to do this for you. It truly is worth the money as you get 10 apps and a rom(once it is released).

App for Event/Meeting/Party Management
Hi, I've been searching for an app that manages events, meetings, and all sorts of parties, with infinite different combinations of features needed from sending invites, remote/onsite checkins, web/database/calendar integration, tracking participants' locations and time stamps, history, etc., etc.... Anyone have a first hand knowledge of such an app that has served you well? Any leads would be appreciated.... Thanks!

There are a number of event planning apps on the google play store, for example Super Planner. Just search for "event planner" or "event planning." Since you want a lot, maybe two of them together will give you everything you need. If you are already using a desktop application to track all of these things, you can ask those developers if they are planning or already have integration for mobile devices. This would be a great solution if the desktop and the mobile device could be sync'd.

Exactly... we are still looking, there are SO many, and so many are just basic crap, just takes time... there are a couple of good ones but yes, desktop/PC integration would great... just thought someone could save me hours of time "testing" the good and bad event apps, its a tedious process, not exactly like testing a new game from the Amazon FAOTD where u know in 30 seconds whether u wanna keep it or not... to be continued.............
I love the old school video game emulators. With that said, fpse is boss. Wish someone could do a ps2 emulator.. also why doesn't the tw weather widget work in any other launcher? The AccuWeather one that is.
My favorite game is color sheep, very addictive and requise you to think very fast and distinct between different colors.

Exactly, that's the point. The Google Playstore has got so many apps now, and even Google is failing to keep count of, and track, the numerous apps. Many apps have promising features, and when you install them, they are just crap. Either hanging your phone or doing some other ****ty thing. Only a handful apps deliver what we can call satisfactory. Eg, I was using ES File Explorer, and when I read so many thumb-up sort of reviews abt the astro file explorer. I installed it, and I found it to be crap. I reverted back to es, and now they've released a more awesome version of es file explorer.
While I don't have what you're searching for, but I agree that we have to go through a helluva testing time only to find that an app is pure crap.....

At last you can hide the last seen time stamp! if you wanna as same as iPhone better go buy an iPhone then
Many people I know (and myself) are moving to Telegram out of concern for privacy & security - it's a near-perfect clone of WhatsApp except with end-to-end encryption and other security enhancements. It also includes various features not available in WhatsApp, with more on the way.
I'm currently running both WhatsApp and Telegram in parallel, using the latter in preference to the former whenever possible. Hopefully in time I can get rid of WhatsApp altogether.
Now the serious problem is, I can't see the others "Last seen" with this update! isn't it sux enough?
The Privacy setting for "Last seen" is for me (Myself) or to hide the last seen of my friend?

[APP][2.2+][20 MAR] Contactive Universal Caller ID

Contactive is a caller ID app with a twist. You’re not bound by the shreds of info on your phonebook, nor do you have to hunt down extra information from other sources. In its simplest form, when a call comes in, Contactive taps into the power of the internet, social networks, and our own Global Directory, identifying the caller and adding extra publicly available information. If you decide to connect your own social networks, Contactive links all your scattered information into rich profiles, ultimately replacing phone numbers with meaningful pieces of your life – all in a blink of an eye.

Our growing list of connectable sources includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Gmail, Google+, WhatsApp, Tango, Skype, Yelp, Google Places, and Contactive’s own Global Directory, giving you access to hundreds of millions of contacts.
Contactive consolidates the sources you choose to connect into a single address book, where the focus is the person, not the source. No more duplicate contacts with scattered info. Tap on a friend and see all of his numbers, his latest posts on Facebook and Twitter, and even job updates on LinkedIn. We are people, not database entries, and that’s how we treat contacts.
Current main features:
• Universal Caller ID – Identify who’s calling before you decide to pick up with our Global Directory of over 600 million callers and counting
• Smart Address Book – Incorporate information from your social networks for a beautiful address book that updates in real-time
• Contact Updates – Always have something to talk about with a cheat sheet of your contacts’ latest updates in the moments that matter most – right before you pick up a call
With a fast development pace, and a culture of listening to users, we are growing very fast. Let us know what you think, want, or dream. We promise we will listen and try our best to always improve.
Try it, you won’t regret it!

Hey there. I can't include the link because I haven't been a member long enough (XDA requires 10 posts to include links)! You can find it in the Google Play store though! Sorry :]

hello, although I disagree the no screen shots, unfortunately people are inherently lazy, no picture no interest, I'd suggest put a single one, to grab the attention of the user.
Like the look of the application, although being a KitKAt user I've gone off that holo blue

Welcome to xda, i'm excited to try the new app
Edit - the apps looks very interesting. Love the birthday display. However I am not use to the dialer, eg: the name is AsdFgh, if I dial 344 i am still able to find the contact.
Not really an issue, just my habit of dialing. 5 star app.

Thanks, ben_pyett. I too agree about the holo blue -- we've been talking about using one of the more subdued colors in our brand palate instead.
I'm planning on updating the post with screenshots just as soon as we've established ourselves long enough to get the permissions.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for us after using the app for a while!
Thanks

Hey #Fear -- thanks so much for the feedback. I think you're talking about the T9 search from the dialer. You can also search from the contacts list a few tabs over.
Excited to hear any other feedback you might have!
