Clockworkmod 6 and JB 4.1.1 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running Clockworkmod 5.x.x.x under ICS and everything was great. I have since moved up to JellyBean 4.1.1 on my Nexus S 4G and the Rom image included Clockworkmod 6.x.x.x. Whenever i use Rom Manager to create a backup and it goes to recovery Clockworkmod 6 has errors and stops. I can still run the Backup while in recovery but not from Rom Manager. The error says something about E: not available.......etc..
So the question is: Is it Rom Manager or ClockworkMod or JellyBean causing the issues?
Is it possible to go back to clockworkmod 5? If so how?
Thanks

I did find another thread addressing this issue and they believe a Rom Manager update is needed.

The biggest thing I like is the ability to name the backup before it starts. Doing it through recovery means I have to rename it after its done. Too picky I guess.

Rom Manager just did an update and now everything is working again under JellyBean 4.1.1 and ClockworkMod 6.0.1.0

[Q] cant mount system, clockworkmod G2X

Hi all,
when i boot my g2x into recovery (clockworkmod) and try to backup, it says it cant mount the system. first it used to say cant mount sd card but the solution was just taking out the sd card and putting it back in. unfortunately i cant do this with the system
anybody have any solutions
That happened to me too... download the update.zip from rom manager and boot that or flash the new recovery image
How do I get the update.zip though? And when I go on rom manager and click on flash clockworkmod, it flashes the latest version 5.0.2.0 but it only stays in that version if I click on restart into recovery. If I exit and turn my phone off then boot into recovery, I still have version 3.0.2.7 and the same can't mount system problem occurs

I just fixed this problem today.
The version of CWM that you have flashed as recovery doesn't have the capability of mounting an ext4 file system. Most likely your file system was converted to ext4 somewhere along the way. You need to flash CWM again and it can't be through rom manager since Rom manager only gives you what is considered a "fake flash", which is why you see 2 different versions when you boot into your recovery.
Use the search feature to find information about how to install CWM 5.0.2.0.
There is a one click installation script somewhere in the development section for the G2x with very good instructions on how to permanently flash a newer version of CWM that can handle ext3 and ext4.
Doing this completely fixed this issue for me.
Hopefully it will do the same for you.

NEVER, EVER FLASH RECOVERY WITH ROM MANAGER!
rom manager only does a FAKE FLASH on your phone, if you want a real recovery, always flash with NVFlash

Questions about stock 4.0.4

Hi everyone. I want to update my galaxy tab 2 P3113 to official 4.0.4 . I have some questions. This rom can be rooted? If yes how to do this? Can i install CWM Recovery?
Geez, I have the same question... Guess we can´t use expresso_recovery method, better not to risk and wait for a solution anyway...

Im agree with you. Waiting is better
I used "expresso_recovery" but it did not work right. The tab just looped the boot image. It did install CWM and I used it to load stock image and then move to CM9 again. I want to run the OTA 4.0.4 stock image rooted, but I think we need help from the devs.
I updated yesterday to 4.0.4 flashed cwm through Odin and then installed root file through cwm same files I did for 4.0.3 and everything works fine. Actually even better cause when I flashed cwm on 4.0.3 I didn't have the Amin. in cwm that I do now.

I odin'd back to stock just to take the ota update. I re-rooted using the same method I used for 4.0.3, but managed to increment my custom flash count a few extra times...Reason is because of the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh script.
If that file exists on the factory firmware, and you have a custom recoery installed, it will overwrite your custom recovery with the stock recovery at every boot. The way around it is to check for the existance of that file and rename it or erase it, or, as in my case, I flashed TWRP and used it's built in file manager to mount /system and rename the file before I booted, once I realized why the recovery was reverted to stock.

Or pervert it for your own... uh... perversions. Most of the custom ROMs support an init.d function that lets you install scripts that start at run time. Tools like System Tuner can also put their stuff in init.d if you have it. The stock ROM (like most stock ROMs) does not have it. Using the install_recovery.sh file, you can add it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772616&highlight=init+d

Flashing recovery EZ Recovery vs Rom Manager

So I like to use Rom Manager to manage my backups. I downloaded it but now it says I don't have cwm installed. I flashed it with EZ recovery. Would I be okay to flash recovery again so RM acknowledges it and I can then manage backups or would that conflict.
Great Question - Thanks for asking it

By now you've probably plotted the solution. But, I was wondering the same question. Which App is better and why?
I will continue working on this for myself. All I have come up with so far: Some ROM's install better with one or the other and it's best to have all-hands-on-deck, so to speak
Again thanks for starting this thread!
I have the same question.

rom manager has cwm 6.0.1.2 touch which has issues restoring backups on some roms from what I have read. cwm 6.0.1.1 non touch from ez recovery works flawless for everything and thats what I stick with. the only issue found with it is the nandroid dates are way off, but simply renaming them fixes that issue.
I thought the issue was with cwm touch 5 . something that ez recovery offers and not with the updated 6.0.1.2 through rom manager?
I'm running 6.0.1.2 without any issues, including multiple touchwiz and one aosp backup. Haven't noticed any problems other than never going back to the standard version cause touch is pure awesomeness

Issues with Rom Manager

I tried to install this > [ROM][VRBLK3][4.1.1][RLS10] GalaxyMod ¯`•._ The New Transmission - xda-developers but when it finished it said I had unauthorized software on my phone so I figured I'd do a stock restore back to 4.0.4. When I did this and rooted the phone after it did the 2 software updates to IMM76D.I535VRALHE I installed root and Rom Manager. However this time I get no choices in Rom Manager. It only shows my Galaxy S3 phone and shows unsupported. I've done this restore and recover numinous times before with no issues now Rom Manager is acting up and will not let me select any phone. The list just shows 1 phone which is mine that's unsupported. How can I Fix this? I need to restore my backup rom I created with CWM. Urgent Help is requested. Thanks!
Boot into cwm manually by powering down then holding volume up, home and power
Then there's an option for backup restore

It won't install the recovery so I get the stock recovery each time I try that.. When it lists the phones to install the recovery it only shows my 1 phone instead of showing all the available phones like it's supposed too. When I did this before it would show me about 20 phones and all 4 Galaxy Phones on each network now it shows nothing but my unsupported phone.
Download ez recovery and use that to install the recovery.

The problem is my CWM is showing the following and I would much rather use it but it won't let me no matter what I try!
SCH-I535 does not have an offcially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod based recovery manually?
Have you cleared app data? Besides that I don't know must people use ez recovery. The people I've seen use ROM manager usually have problems. All either of them do is install cwm recovery on your phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535
I did a forced recovery install from the advanced menu so now I'm in the Rom Manager recovery menu restoring my nandroid backup. Maybe this will fix my Rom Manager since it restores everything I assume? Maybe after it's done I will see the Verizon Galaxy S3 as an option in Rom Manager?
Nope, still shows unsupported. Did they do an update or something. This is sort of retarded! If I do a manual and view all recoveries I see the Galaxy S3. What gives with that? It still won't flash it though.
Guess I'll get used to EZ Recovery until CWM is fixed. Thanks. Unless anyone else knows how to fix the issue.

How to switch from CWM to TWRP?

Just get Goo Manager from the Market. Go to menu>update recovery script. It will flash over CWM. Takes a minute. Just wait for it to ask if want to boot into recovery.
How to update TWRP to 2.4.4
Would someone please give me the steps to update twrp 2.3.3 to 2.4.4? I only see an .img file to download on the twrp site.

If you mean TWRP 2.4.1, TeamWin recommends you just install via the GooManager app

Yup, download GooManager from Play Store, open GooManager > hit menu > Install OpenRecoveryScript
I apologize for bringing up an older thread, but I figured I'd tag my problem onto an existing thread versus creating my own.
I have a sch1535, and yesterday I got it rooted again after losing root with the Jelly Bean update. I then thought that Liquidsmooth looked like a great first ROM to try out. So, I ran Titanium on all my apps and data, saved my texts, and created a nandroid with CWM. Then I flashed Liquidsmooth, looks cool and seems like a great ROM, but I found I'm one of the few who actually like the stock samsung rom (I know, I know...). So, I went back into recovery only to find that I no longer have CWM, but instead TeamWin. I have no idea when the switch occurred.
I read that I can't use TeamWin with my existing nandroid backup, so how do I switch back from Teamwin to CWM without screwing anything over?

Your easiest bet is to use the EZ Recovery app on the market. You can flash back to CWM using it and your backups will still be there. Aside from a version difference you should still see your backups in CWM.

Yeah or you could download rom manager from the play store its compatible with both twrp and cwm so if you have them both flashed then just switch back to cwm. All your backups are on your internal SD so unless you wiped your storage you're good to go.
