[PSA] Watch your Titanium backups - Android General

BE MORE CAREFUL PEOPLE
So I was perusing Google looking for info on a program by its filename and came across a interesting thing. Some people have complete TB backups synced to servers that are publically available and indexed on Google. I recommend anyone that uses said feature to double check their security.
With these backups anyone has full access to your data including
account details and passwords
contacts list
SMS
emails
really every piece of data on your data partition
some included the apk's which could mean inadvertant piracy server
One had a more complete phone backup including nandroid backups and a synced sdcard

I am the source of this info I found them by chance on Google.

What kind of servers do you refer to? Something like Dropbox or someone's own personal server? Please be more specific. Thanks.

[Q] Google online backup

I'm looking for more details about google online backup service.
I'm thinking about applications online backup.
Where do google backup my details?
I know that for calendar and contact it backups data on gmail account.
But where does it backup applications detail?
And also, can I backup some more details for example mail account setup? (I've many mail account set up and every time I reset my device I need to setup those again..)
May I suggest using Google to search for your answers?

Yes of course but since I already tried with many strings please be so nice to give me some links...
I'm going out on a limb here and I'm gonna say what may be the obvious answer:
It will backup your wifi and bluetooth connection settings, installed apps (purchased apps), wallpapers, and probably system preferences. It may very well do contacts, your user dictionary, email settings (as long as you're using the stock email app I would imagine).
This is all speculated from these two links:

Ok thank you. But I can't find how to "reset" the online backup data... what I want to understand is for example where to find details about installed apps and remove not more used ones.
Do you have any ideas?

I think you might be able to find it from your Google Dashboard.

SIM only contacts can't. If it is saved as a phone contact you will be able too.

I use Go Contacts, adds all the info I want, and I backup to SDcard.
Alex, this phone is not a vibrant. I would suggest saving all of your contacts to the google servers and then you can adds whatever you want. Also, if you sync with Facebook, it handles most of that for you

ok if you do not believe me then Im a liar?
This is exactly what I see when I go to edit my google contact! :
Name:
Mobile:
Email:
IM:
ringtone
Postal address
organization+
more
when i click more mothing happens!
if you have a clue how to help or some tips please do so... I just dont like how this whole forum is filled up with some loud mouth geeks who are too devoted to talking **** on people instead of helping out
here I fixed it on my own jerk offs!
This really shows how lame and selfish this website is becoming, you ask for help you get smart comments.
This is a reason why I didnt see the birthday option:
apparently if you have you phone book setting set to: (ask where to store a contact, by default) meaning when you want to create a contact it will ask you where to store him phone, google, sim, etc....... then it wont let you edit birthday.. it will let you view however birthdays you put for some contacts,,, but if you want to create a new contact and you want to add a bday.. then by default you contact setting should be (store contact to google)

How to backup joined contacts?

Hello, I've spent the last hour linking my Google Contacts with Facebook. So i think, i don't wanna do this again next time I flash new rom or change phone. So is it possible to make some kind of backup that will remember what contacts where linked.
If not, is there an app that can rename all my Google Contacts according to the names of the linked Facebook account.
Are you using a HTC phone with a Sense ROM? If you are, then the People app in Sense adds a tag to each contact once you link it. Using this it automatically restores Facebook link when you factory reset/flash a new ROM. To confirm that it added those tags for you, open a contact and look under the 'Notes' section. Also log into your Gmail account on a computer, open a few random linked contacts and see if this tag is there under 'Notes'. If it's there, it's backed up with Google contacts and when you restore the contacts to the phone, it'll automatically link them after signing into Facebook.

i wish i could help man, i want to do the same thing too
Unfortunately, I don't think it is really possible as these are two separate sets of contacts. The best way to alleviate some of the hassle is to transfer some of the data over, as in, transfer the facebook info into your Google contacts.
Facebook info is not editable as it is stored on their sore and merely linked to it. Ubuntu One os working on their contact management which would slow for this as it syncs facebook, Google and any other services to you ubuntu account then would sync to your mobile.

I've added all the email address of my friends to my Google contacts. I manually did this one day on my computer, copy pasting email addresses from Facebook to Google contacts. Since then I've never had this problem. Facebook automatically identifies my contacts through their email ID and links them. It's a time consuming process, but you'll only need to do it once and for every new contact that you add.

Well i'm hardly a developer, but if it possible to access to contacts joined contacts from the android API, and if we build an application that would read information from facebook(with permission, like all FB apps) then i guess it would be possible to store lets say profile id from fb to google contacts notes, and then with the same app, you would be able to join them again in case of new phone/new rom.
Would you say thats possible? Would anyone try to build that?
I think i will try to make something like that after I finish the college year.
HTC has a feature like that, as was mentioned. So it's possible. It would be worth it to try! Basically the htc app automatically searches and paris contacts, based on names, emails, numbers, etc. them you are given a notification, and prompted with the suggestions and you can choose to link. This only happens on startup, so am app that could be called on at any time would be nice!

When on contacts screen, press menu> import/export> export to sdcard
Restore them whenever you flash a new ROM, don't tell if it wasn't what you were looking for

I know it has been a long time since this questioned has been asked, but I wanted to let people annoyed by this problem that I have made a free application that can backup and restore those joins. It can help those with mild OCD like myself.
It is called Total Backup and can be found in Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.softwareshack.totalbackup. If you happen to use it don't hesitate to write to me any bugs or features you may like. Feedback is very important to me.

Titanium to backup email accounts

Can anyone tell me if titanium backup also backups email accounts?
I thought it did but so far I didn't succeed in restoring my email accounts.
When it does: where do I have search to restore my accounts?
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda app-developers app
Not that I am aware of. Not to mention restoring those types of settings is not a good idea. It can cause issues as they are not handled the same from ROM to ROM and OS version to OS version.

Sync and backup your contacts and calendar on a cloud for free!

I've found this free app to sync all your contacts and your calendar with your phones, tablet and PC. It stores the data on a cloud so if your phone gets stolen or breaks it will still have your data stored. People always think about this when it's too late, I decided to take precautions before I get into trouble! Give it a try, it's very simple clean and free:

Thanks for this, but did you know that Google provides this very same service without having to install any third-party app?
