I'm looking for more details about google online backup service.
I'm thinking about applications online backup.
Where do google backup my details?
I know that for calendar and contact it backups data on gmail account.
But where does it backup applications detail?
And also, can I backup some more details for example mail account setup? (I've many mail account set up and every time I reset my device I need to setup those again..)
May I suggest using Google to search for your answers?

Yes of course but since I already tried with many strings please be so nice to give me some links...
I'm going out on a limb here and I'm gonna say what may be the obvious answer:
It will backup your wifi and bluetooth connection settings, installed apps (purchased apps), wallpapers, and probably system preferences. It may very well do contacts, your user dictionary, email settings (as long as you're using the stock email app I would imagine).
This is all speculated from these two links:

Ok thank you. But I can't find how to "reset" the online backup data... what I want to understand is for example where to find details about installed apps and remove not more used ones.
Do you have any ideas?

I think you might be able to find it from your Google Dashboard.

If you have a google account set up, all you have to do is turn on backup my data and then once you are installed with a new ROM, it will restore. Also if you already have backup assist, you can sign in online and transfer to your google account, but I believe you can download it from the market.
Would like to install VZW backup assist to download contacts and back them up to Google

I'm confused...
If your contacts are already backed up using back up assistant then just go to Verizon website and export them into a .csv
Then just import into your gmail account.
Doesn't Google already backup your contacts if you are already using a Google smart phone? I could never figure out why I had VZW Backup Assnt. on here. Glad I finally rooted and got rid of alot of junk.
Idk about you guys but the way android is set up is that you can choose where to save your contacts. Some will sync to google, some will sync to active sync, etc. However, they don't sync with one another. It really sucks because all your contacts are potentially scattered across all these servers (it can also be stored on phone only with VZW Backup). I think this is where the OP has problems with.
****************************************************************
What I did was exporting ALL of my contacts to a file. Go to google.com/contacts. Import, remove duplicates, and there you go, your life belongs to the googlian overlord.

google only backs up if the contact is set up as a "google contact" when created. When you click to create a new contact, the default is to save to the phone only, you have to change the drop-down to google every time. If you do that, it will save it to gmail contacts.
I've looked everywhere for it.
I had to backup the app and then send the backup to the phone I needed it for.
It's a nice way of sharing some paid apps with friends.
*hinthint* Haha.
First, I did use the search feature, but couldn't find anything specific to the Inspire. If this already exists, please feel free to link to it/close this thread. Thanks!
So, I can't seem to effectively back up my contacts. Titanium Backup doesn't do it, and I thought they were synced via Google. Not to mention I've had the same SIM card for YEARS and all my contacts have always been on there. Now, since I rooted my phone and started flashing custom ROMS, they have disappeared. Now I am without my 400+ contacts database, which I need.. So my question is, what is the best way to back up contacts, and is there any way to recover the ones I had?
Thanks in advance!
As long as you didn't choose not to sync with Google before you flashed, they are backed up. Most likely the problem you are having is getting them to import. Try going to Settings>Accounts and Sync> and manually sync your Google account.

I rip my employer a little I guess and store ALL my contacts to MS Exchange for several years now with nary a hiccup...that said since I've been on Android, Google does a fine job too. ... I think my free Sugar Sync account probably has them too...with this phone I have given up storing any contacts at all on the SIM card...because I have gone through what you are when simply switching phones or have phones stolen/lost in the past...but yeah make sure at least Google is backing them up...
It all depends on where you have chosen to save your contacts. If to phone then they may be lost forever. If to sim then simply import them back to your phone. If to Google account then as said above just re-sync.
When thinking about flashing rom's the first thing that you should do is make sure all contacts are backed up. Best choice is with Google. That way everytime you wipe data you can boot up your phone sync with Google and BOOM! They are there. Works a treat. Cheers.

Thanks guys. I've had them backed up to Google before, and even restored them before, but it doesn't seem to be working. I just flashed the VU ROM after having been using the RCMix3D ROM for my Inspire, so I'll post the question on their page and see if it's a known issue with the ROM or anything.
Good luck.

I have been on a captivate and now the inspire. Flashed upteen different roms and never had an issue with google restoring my contacts. Everytime I put the gmail addy in it pulls it all over.
Doesn't the htc sync account do that as well? Try doing that. If all else fails and you have them in say outlook or still on google then you can export them as a comma separated value (CSV) file and then put that on your sd card then import them via the people app. You can then save to sim via the people app.
I am on VU now and it restored flawlessly from gmail.
This is one app on the market that you can look at.

I would recommend using my backup pro from the android market
For those of you who are experimenting with AOSP ROMs on your HTC phone and want to synchronize contacts and calendar items with your desktop, have a look at this application. You can install the Android version via the market, the desktop install is freely available from the developer's website below.
http://global.mobileaction.com/product/product_AM.jsp
Also have a look at MyPhoneExplorer. It is also free from the market and very similiar software. You can view your phone's screen on your monitor and operate your phone with your mouse and keyboard. It is a proven software.

Interesting. I like the less cluttered look of this desktop version, but what worries me is the non-english support forum. I wonder if using both of these tools, in addition to the HTC sync software, might create some sort of incompatibility.
ETA: I also wonder how these utilities will respond when switching between ROMs or versions. I don't know how they track synchronization sessions. It'd be a disaster if contact items were duplicated or triplicated when updating or experimenting.
I dont know if this goes here but i have been searching around for a answer.. on my inspire I had to reinstall my rom and when i did for some reason i cannot find my phone contacts.. how in world would i get them back I did have titanium but even it says theres nothing there.. i also just two days ago did a fresh backup on titanium.. strange huh.. so far everything has been replaced but my dialer contacts..

Did you have them synced with Google? If you did then just resign into your google account and they will be restore. As for TIBU it doesnt back up contacts by default as they are stored in System Data and restoring any system data, like contacts, sms, emails, wifi settings and things like that can cause huge issues when changing roms.
I had them synced but for some reason i cannot no matter what find them.. and they did not resync on the cell when i set it up again

once your sync options are double checked as Zel mentioned, sign in to gmail from the gmail app and get your email, this puts it into a forced sync. Should have all your stuff back.
Thanks for sharing, BillTheCat. I was not familiar with this app. I'l check it out. I've been using Google to sync my stuff.

Hi, Well this appears to be a regular problem with almost all un-rooted Android users. Still, in case anybody could help me out with removing one of my Google App account from HTC Desire S, without actually resetting it. I think there is some way.
I added my third google account, synced it once with Gmail app, later, unchecked the Auto sync button and clicked on Remove account. I was successfully able to remove it. If that can be removed, the first one can also be. Its just that I need to clear some apps cache for this. If any one from XDA (big brainy people) can help us out on this.
Try clearing gmail, talk, and Google account manager
Swyped from a primed Desire S
AFAIK, the account that was used first in initializing the device, can be removed by factory reset only. This is what the phone writes when you're trying, right?

Ya, thats what the phone says. But I registered two google account on it. One professional one personal. it does not allow me to delete any of those. However, when I registered a third account, I could remove that one easily.

Hi,
I am trying the steps as told by you. Lets see if this works.
Gmail: Cleared
Talk: Cleared
Google Play: Cleared
Google Service Framework: Cleared
Cannot find anything like Google Account Manager in the app list.
Kindly help. There is no particular way on this whole internet. lol
I although tried it once in different ways but there was no way to delet the first account. In the end I did a factory reset.
Sorry, but I think it´s the only and fastes way to get the phone clean.
first email account
It does not matter which email account you use Gmail, Yahoo, GMX etc. You can only delete it by doing a factory reset. The first email you enter becomes embedded on the phone.
Thank you guys for your replies. Can you also suggest something I need to take care of before doing a factory reset.

Backup your contacts(if not synced with Google) and SMS using 'super backup'
You are not rooted so can't think of anything else that you could do.

Absolutely no use to the OP as it requires Root access to work - and he doeasn't have that on his phone
Hello, I've spent the last hour linking my Google Contacts with Facebook. So i think, i don't wanna do this again next time I flash new rom or change phone. So is it possible to make some kind of backup that will remember what contacts where linked.
If not, is there an app that can rename all my Google Contacts according to the names of the linked Facebook account.
Are you using a HTC phone with a Sense ROM? If you are, then the People app in Sense adds a tag to each contact once you link it. Using this it automatically restores Facebook link when you factory reset/flash a new ROM. To confirm that it added those tags for you, open a contact and look under the 'Notes' section. Also log into your Gmail account on a computer, open a few random linked contacts and see if this tag is there under 'Notes'. If it's there, it's backed up with Google contacts and when you restore the contacts to the phone, it'll automatically link them after signing into Facebook.

i wish i could help man, i want to do the same thing too
Unfortunately, I don't think it is really possible as these are two separate sets of contacts. The best way to alleviate some of the hassle is to transfer some of the data over, as in, transfer the facebook info into your Google contacts.
Facebook info is not editable as it is stored on their sore and merely linked to it. Ubuntu One os working on their contact management which would slow for this as it syncs facebook, Google and any other services to you ubuntu account then would sync to your mobile.

I've added all the email address of my friends to my Google contacts. I manually did this one day on my computer, copy pasting email addresses from Facebook to Google contacts. Since then I've never had this problem. Facebook automatically identifies my contacts through their email ID and links them. It's a time consuming process, but you'll only need to do it once and for every new contact that you add.

Well i'm hardly a developer, but if it possible to access to contacts joined contacts from the android API, and if we build an application that would read information from facebook(with permission, like all FB apps) then i guess it would be possible to store lets say profile id from fb to google contacts notes, and then with the same app, you would be able to join them again in case of new phone/new rom.
Would you say thats possible? Would anyone try to build that?
I think i will try to make something like that after I finish the college year.
HTC has a feature like that, as was mentioned. So it's possible. It would be worth it to try! Basically the htc app automatically searches and paris contacts, based on names, emails, numbers, etc. them you are given a notification, and prompted with the suggestions and you can choose to link. This only happens on startup, so am app that could be called on at any time would be nice!

I know it has been a long time since this questioned has been asked, but I wanted to let people annoyed by this problem that I have made a free application that can backup and restore those joins. It can help those with mild OCD like myself.
It is called Total Backup and can be found in Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.softwareshack.totalbackup. If you happen to use it don't hesitate to write to me any bugs or features you may like. Feedback is very important to me.
