Lol, hp touchpad died because of webos... I'm not putting it on my phone, lol :banghead:

Touchpad died because HP killed it. WebOS is the bomb.

As a touchpad owner who is running cm9 99% of the time, i know i won't be running webos on my one x.

WebOS is beautiful I want it

WebOS was miles ahead of android and ios. You shouldn't base your decision on the touchpad, a device released after WebOS died and by a different company.

lots of ICS and Jellybean's new features are a result of WebOS. I still miss it.

It would be sweet if we could dual boot
webOS with proper support is amazing.

WebOS was incomplete and buggy. The app store sucked and is likely 99% dead.
Android has always been more functional. WebOS was just prettier. Jb has bridged that gap.

Actually i used the pre as well. Webos does multi-tasking really really well and i like the OS but i don't like the lack of apps. I guarantee that people will go back to android unless we can get android apps running on webos.

If WebOS was still around, it'd be a better competitor to Android than Windows Phone is.

If I have nothing else to work on during that time I will look into it. I used to own a touchpad (look at my sig, but it was before i just sold it for a nexus 7 ) and I loved the OS. Its card view is fantastic.
The app store is what killed it though
Still it would be an awesome experience to port it.

I'd be willing to test stuff for you.

I'd absolutely love this. The only thing webOS is missing is some solid hardware!

But If I could run Android apps on WebOS I would be in heaven

I'm hoping for and evo shift or evo port. But any who the Touch pad dies not because of HP alone but the lack of advertisement. I feel as if the Touchpad was probably advertised it would have had a better User and Dev response. But with Open WebOS on the Horizon maybe we can add some more apps and maybe better visual customization then what we have currently.

I'd say the lack of apps was because of the lack of decent hardware. I know a lot of people who owned webOS devices at one point and miss the OS dearly, but Palm (and later the bozos at HP) were simply never able to provide any good hardware to upgrade too. The Touchpad was a plastic-y whale, and the Pre 3 was actually quite nice but never got released. Go figure, when they do manage to build a decent device they don't launch it. I don't understand why, but Palm was just never able to put together a hardware dev team worth squat.

I had a pre for a year and while I loved webos.. The hardware reminded me of a cheap Samsung phone...
I don't miss webos nearly as much as I used to because android now has so many aspects of webos....
I'd be down to test a port just for some nostalgia

Once the sensations bootloader is unlocked will anyone port WP7 Mango?

Would be super cool if people would support this phone like the HD2 (being able to run android and WM6.5/7). Just throwing it out there... Would have bought a HD7 but waiting for the software to do a little catch up. Thinking when mango is released it will be that point where it had matured and everyone would be content using it day to day.

That would be cool.
I like WM 2003 SE.
i would be interested in a dual boot if possible for sure
Would be cool, but probably won't happen because of the massive undertaking that would have to happen. Wp7 doesn't even have drivers for dual core phones..the drivers is what would make the whole thing a headache

I would totally be up for that! I really like both operating systems. If the browser were just better, or there were alternative browsers that were worthwhile on WP7, I might still be using the HD7. Right up until I ended up with a Sensation.

Mango does support dual-core. the lastest spec sheet for upcoming wp7 devices says so. so the driver headache is not there...

Webos on HTC inspire

Hi I may be posting in the wrong place but I was wandering if it was possible to port Webos on the inspire. Even though Webos is gone it still would be cool.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
I highly doubt that will happen. I may be wrong but I believe WebOS is closed source, meaning that we will more than likely never see WebOS on something that was not meant to run it. I do believe it runs a Linux kernel, but then you would have driver issues (I would imagine).
Once again, I am purely speculating from a NON-programming standpoint.
yeah, highly unlikely. but honestly, after using my touchpad all week, i really wish i had some apps for it. as a tablet OS, its great, but it just needs some apps so the device can actually be used.
I remember talking to some guys in the nexus one dev threads, and while it was definitely within all of our capabilities to try and reverse engineer even a leaked web OS rom, there would be serious legal ramifications. (That is, if it was successfully ported and became mildly popular)
Case in point, ps3, a closed source system/ OS, and geohotz.

Does anyone know.
Is it posible for WEB OS ported to our Sensation.

Hopefully now that HP is releasing Web OS as open source someone will pick up on this. It would be fun to have options like we had with the HD2.

I would love to see webOs on my phone its I think its possible because the touchpads hardware is very similar to the sensations and the evo 3d (which already has webos booted)

how about no.
I know a webOS engineer got it going on an evo 3D, since that and our Sensations both have similar hardware to the touchpad, so Its not out of the realm of possibility.

I disagree, we have more freedom stock than an iPhone does or ever will have
And with root our phones blow away the iPhone
I've had them and I've jailbroke them for friends.
The only advantage I will say is the hardware is great and since they create the hardware and software it has better app development

The theming was nice, but man did all those tweaks and such slow my phone down. I reset it and gave it to my kid for gaming, and it was like I had a new phone it was so much snappier.
Contrast that to how much faster and smoother you can make an Android phone by rooting and romming it.
I don't think I'm going to regret jumping ship but I am curious to see where they go with this one.
I tried an iphone. Wanted to love it. Sold it and bought this phone on launch day. Love my ipad and mac but I'm android on my phone.
Leave the apple products to the people who don't have half a brain to learn something new. The Android ecosystem is always changing and dynamic, always something to be learned and discovered. Apple is just a closed and elitist ecosystem that died with Steve Jobs.
If Apple ever made their phones run iOS(i-open source) I'd think about it.

[REQUEST] WebOS port for One X

Well as most of you might of heard, webos has finally been released in beta to the public. I was just wandering if anyone would take on the challenge of bringing such amazing OS to a phone that i think its perfect in form factor and everything for it. And i think the sooner development starts on the One X with webos well the more accostumed developers will get and maybe with future releases from hp the One X could be one of the devices to get early builds from them. Its just a request after all though, i think it would make a lot of us hapoy to see it
Its one of my long terms goals, over the course of the next year or so, now that things with JB have smoothed over. Though it might not even happen... may be impossible. The OS is entirely different than Android. The only thing they share is the Linux kernel (which still needs heavy modification).
No ETAs. Ever.
If you want to contribute and you can contribute to the project, let me know via PM or email.
but i saw that web os is ported to htc evo 3d already.how is evo 3d different from our phone?
Because this forum doesn't have the same developers as the EVO, save reason why the One S hasn't got it either.

It kind of is but the fact is that our device isn't as popular as others in attracting developers. While the ones we do have are great, it simply can't match the number of developers for other devices which makes large projects like this more achievable.

Ehh that's sorta true but it only takes one dev, I've been around both big and small communities on xda and its usually just one big dev who comes through with the break through that paves the way for the less experienced devs
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Really not a smack in the face at all to our current devs. Our current devs may just not be interested in webOS. They're busy making better stuff for what we have now. and doing a mighty good job thus far. You can't fault them for not having the interest in webos (i personally would consider running it just to say i could, but i'd be back on CR probably within a couple hours.
As a touchpad owner i guarantee you will hate webos because of the lack of apps.

Have to agree there. WebOS had (has?) so much potential.... In some ways it's still superior to Android. But without apps, its pretty useless. With no OEM backing it anymore... Where's the incentive to develop?
It has crazy potential though. Back it the early Android porting days of the Touchpad, someone created an android environment that ran entirely as a WebOS page for running apps. If an OEM could pull that off, they'd have the best of both worlds.
With all these new phones coming out it's hard to pick which one will have the best/most developer support. Back about 1-2 years ago there were many phones but only a few "great" high end ones so most of the developers were on those all at the same time. Now there are many high end phones on all networks and internationally so the developers are spread out. It wasn't a problem before, but now I won't buy a phone at launch, no matter how great, before I see what the development will be like. I made that mistake with the Galaxy Note for AT&T. The development there wasn't even close to the international version.
The One X is an incredible phone. Imagine what it would be like with the amount of development that the Nexus or even the Evo 3d has? It's kinda sad that this phone doesn't have that much popularity with more developers. It's a better phone all around than the Nexus or Evo 3d.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Actually I can't say that I won't buy a phone again without looking at the development because I do plan on getting the Note 2 at launch. The tough part is gonna be figuring out which version to get. It's probably gonna be like the sgs3. Some of the versions have more development than the others.
