Motion sensor / Gestures - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okaaaaay silly question time .....
Anyone know of any applications that will unlock the "screen dim" via a hand swipe over the sensors on the front of my tab to wake it up ?
I don't use a screen lock as such and i like the screen to dim as its good on the battery but becomes a pain having to hit the power button to resuscitate it back to life ..... YES I AM LAZY
Tried this but no dice as tab is not supported ...... via this thread .... http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051677
Any ideas please peeps ? Free or Paid is cool.
Thanks
:good:

I found a app that claims do approximately what you want:
try this app

Thanks for the link but.....nope wont work with my tab,
Thanks anyway :highfive:

i'm using that app now, when i close my case, it will lock and turn off screen and when i open my case it will turn on screen.
but some disadvantages is that when my finger anccidently close the proximity sensor when playing games, it will turn off screen

None of these apps show on my market.
Much better than these uncontrollable apps it's with Tasker if available:

A way to turn on my tablets screen when walking past it?

Hey guys, I've an Advent Vega, and would love if I could find a way to use the front camera to activate the screen when passing?
I'd leave it plugged in by the door, so as I'm leaving/coming home I can see the weather forecast and any tasks or emails waiting for me.
Any ideas guys n gals?

Use smart screen on/off app.. It uses proximity sensor to lock or unlock device.. you can probably Swype your hand at the sensor n unlock it..

That's aaalmost what would be ideal... just... i'd like it to be from the camera... for instance when I turn the coridor light on when I get home, or walk past it, so I can take a quick look passively without having to interact.
Anybody else got a suggestion? Maybe something paired with Tasker somehow?

One thing you must know if that your front camera cannot sense your motion or anything.. no hardware support for it.. It's just like how your eyes cannot detect smell..
At the max you can make use of your proximity sensor for that purpose..

Yes, I'm just wondering if there's a way to do it with a 3rd party app. Something that would keep the front camera turned on or take photos every second, and then continually process images for motion detection. Once detected, it would then activate the screen.

Awesome!
That's almost exactly what I'm looking for!
Coolness... now my old tablet can sit by the door and remind my pathetic brain of what I need to do (or what my gf has added to the calendar more than likely), give me a quick glance of recent emails, and show me the weather forecast so I don't get soaked .
Thanks for finding that!

You could also keep another smartphone on your person and have the two devices paired and set the phone left at home to wake up when the paired device comes within range.

I'm not certain, regardless of the setup you use, you need to be aware that nothing will work to do this if the device that you want to wake is in sleep mode or if the device has a screen lock enabled, no matter what you do. You'd have to permanently disable your pass/pin/pattern lock on the device that you want to wake remotely so that the device can stay in a state where it can detect the paired device when it approaches. You would still need to unlock the "normal" lockscreen that would normally require you to swipe the screen, but there is an option that automatically unlocks the screen when a paired "trusted device" is detected.
There are some options available that can wake the device when a paired device is detected, provided that the device to be woken is not in deep sleep or has a pass/pin/pattern lock enabled. Combine that with the "trusted device" option and it should do what you want and none of it should require root.
There is also a more complicated method to have the device set to wake when the paired device comes in range, but it requires writing some code and implementing the code on the device. But I think there is a way to do this with just enabling/disabling some settings, pairing the devices and setting the paired device that you will keep with you as the "trusted device", either via built in settings(if the device has them) or by installing an app that lets you connect the device as a "trusted device".
What is the android version on the device that you want to wake up remotely?
The tablet is TB-X606F on android 10 and my phone is on 12. I have disabled all kinds of screen lock, even the swip, so as soon and you press the unlock button you are presented straight away with the desktop. I can't though see any options around unlocking when paired, I'm going to put Tasker on the tablet and see if there is any options for screen unlock when in range and screen off when not in range. Failing that whole idea, all I can think of is using Flux to dim the screen to 0 when I turn the living room lights off at night effectively rendering the screen off at nighttimes?

Have you tried it? Does it work? Does it cause wakelocks?
EDIT: would love to try, but not going to pay $1.61 for untested app with limited functionality. Free version only works if you unblock AdMob (yeah, right!).

Hmm...I went and got the version from the xda thread to test it out. On my phone, the backlight flickers on spasmodically and the buttons dimly light, but it's not really bright enough for me to tell at my desk...I used the default wave and pulse. Nice idea, but I think I can live without it until some kind developer integrates the function properly into CM.
They light fine on my end

Actualy yea Its kinda dim in daylight .....i msged the dev to see if he will regain interest in the app ..... It's pre ics and pre gb so its a miracle it still works ...I hope he can update it to work with current devices ....

Do you think the fact that CM and Fusion Kernel (and possibly other roms/kernels) dim the capacative buttons to 2ma effects this? Or do you think the app overrides them to full brightness?
The app isade for streak and is dated ....those areost likely the issues .....

Activate the Screen with the proximity sensor?

Hello!
I need a App that allows me to activate the Screen by moving my finger across the proximity sensor!? Like this: If i do a phone call,
my screen turns off als long as i press the phone on my ear - after i put the phone down, the screen re-activates!
... Does anybody know a good (and maybe free..) app for this?
regards,
Stefan
(& sorry for my bad english)
doesnt android already do this
... only by a phone call, but there is no option to activate the display by moving the finger(s) over the proximity sensor!
maybe something like this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danielkao.autoscreenonoff
Or this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zuimeia.suite.magiclocker
I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
Or Gravity Screen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en
Thanks for all the Answers!!
... "Gravity Screen" is a crap for me, because the Display also activates itself in my pants pocket!
... i mean something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.suriv.suscreen&hl=de
=> But without some advertitsing & payments crap!!
regards,
Stefan

Maybe have a look at Tasker and its countless options. I had once set up a task to take a screenshot by covering the proximity sensor, which works flawlessly. You can try to set up your desired task by your own.
Thanks for all the Answers, now i use the App: "Auto Screen On" from Dougi Hsu!
It works perfektly and has no adds or other crap! The Power usage is a little bit higher,
but not really crucial.
The App "Tasker" is very nice, thanks for this Info!

Double tap to wake screen

Can anyone help.
I can't find the option to enable the double tap to wake the screen on my Xz Premium.

Yeah, seems like Sony has removed that feature on XZs and XZ Premium
I hope they add it back. I wonder if it's something to do with the 4k screen? Does anyone know if it's on the z5 premium?

Hello dvdman2k,
Yes the double tap to wake is on the Z5P; however I found it something of a mixed blessing as was inclined to wake from unintentional screen touches while in a pocket (in the Style Cover SCR46 with the active window). Having just migrated to the XZP I'd noticed the feature's absence, but almost with some relief !
Regards,
Kevin
PS. Having now used the device for a week or so, I've changed my opinion. There are some occasions when the Double Tap function would be very good to have. Others when I'd prefer it turned off (eg. to prevent inadvertent activation while in a jacket pocket). So my conclusion is that I'd like to see the functionality re-instated in the ROM , but with a user-controlled toggle in Settings so that it is flexible to suit requirements.

Hi kevinpwhite
Coming from Moto Z I liked the feature where you could wave hand over the display and it would wake up & the finger. Print reader is on the front of the phone.
Sometimes I want to wake the screen without pressing the power Button.
Thanks

I have double tap to lock using Nova Prime as my launcher. I don't use double tap to wake even when available because too often the screen starts up when the phone is in your pocket. However, I do wish that the fingerprint reader would unlock the phone WITHOUT having to actually press the button in just like most fingerprint readers work. Maybe they could make it work this way? In fact I am sure they could because when you are setting up your various fingers for access you do not have to push the button in. In fact if you accidentally do push it in while registering your prints it will close the screen and you have to start all over. SO I believe they could make it live/active just like any other fingerprint reader. How do we actually get these requests to Sony directly? I also wish they would unlink the ringtone volume from the notification volume.
Things might change in the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for me. I won't buy a phone without it. In fact, I pretty much need to have lift-to-wake and/or some kind of always-on-display. Pushing a power button to turn on your phone is so 2015.

Per my earlier comments, I was initially slightly relieved after the Z5P's tendency to turn on when not wanted; however, have now revised my opinion and think it would be very useful - but needs a user-selectable toggle to suit circumstances. This approach has been mooted to the Developers on the Sony Forum (they've acknowledged) and there is quite a strong voice of similar views from other users. The more strength of feeling, the more likely the feature will be re-instated in a F/W update.... :fingers-crossed:
Best regards,
Kevin
if it really bothers you, you can just buy a roxfit urban slim case for it like i have. After using a xiaomi mi5 with tap to wake , its hard going back to the old ways lol, plus less pressing on physical buttons, the longer the hardware lasts!
please bring back
Try this to wake: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Install Nova Prime for double tap to lock.
Works great. There are other apps that do similar things in the play store. YMMV
You can always buy the official case that has a screen unlock feature. Because of it I no longer see the need of double tap to wake but it would be handy to have. I am annoyed this feature is excluded though.
Any suggestion for a simple app to do the double tap wake/lock?
Ive been using https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html for DTW
Of course you need a Unlocked Bootloader
Now I'm using WaveUp, it's not like the double tap but works well for both locking and unlocking. And it has a "pocket mode" for unlock the display when you take it out from your pocket, very useful.
