LG Optimus 3D P920 or HTC Desire HD - General Questions and Answers

Hi to all.
I have a simple question.
What's better for buying LG Optimus 3D P920 or HTC Desire HD ?
HD is little cheaper, but i will get more money for LG, and that's max. No SGS 2, to expensive...
I know that hardware is better on LG..

Here's the main differances.
3D has dual core cpu, HD has single core
3D has 512mb RAM, HD has 768mb
3D has 5mp camera, HD has 8mp
3D has 3D capabilities, HD does not
3D has less development, HD has more

As i know LG has better GPU, better processor, better display... so hardware is almost equal to Sensation, who cost more.
But HTC has better developer support and more RAM. And i'm fan of HTC.
Searching and comparing benchmark results od those 2 phone, i started to like LG ...
What about bug's on LG, is there any? How will phone react for bour a year or 2?

LG is very durable (dropped mine a few times from head height onto concrete and not even a scratch) and 3D is fun.
Plays most high end games well, but half gig ram can be restricting as you sometimes end up with low ram and lg support for updates is rubbish.
You can tweak settings to improve things and upcoming ics update should help but hardware wise the lg is great just not on the software side.

I think that LG 3D is 1 class above Desire HD. Based on benchmark
I'm just scared of some things that i readed on some forums. I think about gost calls, overheating battery, random restarting and turning off, sim network faliure and stuff like that. Hope that i won't be that luck to buy some model with those bugs.
So i need advice of people that use LG 3d or used both

I have v21a stock lg version and never had ghost calls, overheating battery, random reboots, etcetera.
I do find my carrier signal stops completely sometimes for a few seconds but as a friends also does, on different phone but same network, it seems to be the carrier (I live in an area not great for reception anyway).
Battery life was rubbish but I bought a bigger battery for seven pound on amazon and can easily use my phone non stop most of the day with wifi and gps etc, play games etc and usually just charge it every few days now and I use my phone a lot

Thanks. That i wanna know.. So if i buy LG 3D and have some issues, just to upgrade/downgrade to v21a stock, and phone will be OK?
Does LG 3D has, if stock ROM is still buggy, some custom ROM, that work perfect?

A lot of people say thiaz rom is brilliant, it is available feom the optimus 3D forum here at xda but as I'm on contract I use stock rom.

My plan was like this. Sell my HTC Desire, get more money and buy HTC Desire HD. Plus I'm fan of HTC. (Had Blue Angel, Tatoo..)
But than i looked more on net and compared benchmarks. Compared GPU's, processor's, display's. Everything is on LG 3d side. But i still don't know...

Nexus s or Lg 2x??

hi guys,
i'm new to the forum. this weekend I'm gonna buy my first android phone. not sure whether to buy nexus s or lg 2x. hope u guys can tell the pros and cons of this two phone.
cheers!
Edit:
From my understanding,
Nexus s,
-great super amoled
-will get latest update
-more optimized
-certain phone have problem with capacitive touch screen
Lg 2x,
-greater cpu n gpu
-better camera
-dual core is not being fully optimized with current os version
-problem with random reboot
I am also thinking of replacing my Nexus S for LG Optimus 2X but I dont know should I do it. Big dillema...

The Nexus S has a better GPU but a worse GPU.
Also the Camera isn't necessarily better on the O2x, megapixels doesn't matter too much.
The Nexus S does not have a touchscreen problem.
And finally: Yes, the dualcores aren't being used very much (yet).
As for a real answer: None of them, Galaxy S II.
It doesn't cost much more than the O2x, but is miles better.
What touchscreen issue is the op referring to?

OP you're asking about the lg optmius 2x ... the LG-P990 that means you're are probably going to be on bands that the international galaxy S supports
i say SGS2
I'm referring the back capacitive button
Look up for reviews on battery life of LG Optimus 2x, dont know how the dual core handles battery life.
But, i have been looking up on SGS2 forums over here @ xda, and it seems most people are not happy with their purchase due to battery life issues.
PS: I bet you wouldnt want a phone that dont last long right?
EDIT: FYI, do read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088098
most ppl get a nexus because its a nexus. everyone knew when the nexus s came out that is was no revolutionary piece of hardware. but they wanted the direct updates and support from google.

Really? if i was paying $800 to buy it here in the states (that samsung USA probably wouldn't provide support for), it better not have any issues!
Hey OP
I actually had a G2x for 29 days. Actually I had 2 of them. On day 29 I sent it back for a refund and got the Nexus S. I haven't looked back.
I was plagued with random reboots and freezes. It was really annoying. Also, the G2x was unusually "tall" and heavy with large spaces between the touch buttons at the bottom. It felt like a quality device, but it didn't feel as comfortable as the Nexus S.
With the Nexus S, you are guaranteed updates for a long time into the future. With the G2x, you are stuck with Froyo out of the box, and a few custom ROMs are emerging. None of the custom ROMs are fully stable and bug-free yet. Heck, even the stock ROM isn't stable and bug-free. Furthermore, the stock ROM isn't Vanilla Froyo, which really annoyed me. LG made quite a few subtle changes to the UI that I did not appreciate, and much preferred the true stock Nexus experience.
The G2x was snappier then the Nexus S, but the overall experience was not as fulfilling to me.
Yeap agree with that.
Support from Google is onebof the main selling point!

I'm a sucker for technology. Right when the g2x was released, I had to replace it with the nexus s. I had the g2x for 2 weeks and went back to my nexus S. The g2x had too many problems and the annoying screen bleed!! I would watch videos at night and I'd always stare at it and try to rub the area just to see if i could fix it. Anyways, the nexus S is alot faster then stock g2x. I'm sure the g2x can get faster after some modding, but when I was using it only got a quadrant score of 2400 while the nexus right now gets 3300 with c7 and netarchy. The nexus s also has a better form factor as well as samoled screen. The g2x had horrible speakers. Everytime old I'd go into speaker mode, the other person would hear echoing. Also my g2x had a hard time getting a GPS lock while the Nexis s gets it in 5 seconds. I think ill pass on the g2x since it didn't exceed any of my expectations.
One thing I liked about the g2x was the way it looked and felt. I don't really like the plastic feeling of the nexus s.
for playing games, LG is better
for roms, ehhh...

The 2x is for Europe (supports different frequencies), and runs LG's custom skin on top of the OS.
The G2x is for T-Mobile USA, and they removed the skin.
Both appear plagued with similar problems, the 2x appears to be getting/have gotten? an OTA to address some issues, but I don't know where that stands.
i was also thinking about getting the g2x but im going to keep my nexus s as it might get supported more than the g2x
I have replaced my Nexus with O2X and havent regreted. Everything is so fast and snappy. Not to mention fantastic Tegra 2 games connected thru HDMI to plasma.

I have one and love the 3D, really is good so if you must have 3D its great but other than that feature there are a lot better phones out there and the new optimus 3D is said to come out in 2013 if you really want best 3D might be worth holding off buying till then.

Battery life is much improved with gingerbread but still not great. I used four percent in three hours playing mp3s which is good but as soon as you touch gaming etc you eat battery life up.
I think I played game dev story for about two hours before my battery got low. I would get bigger battery if you get optimus 3D and intend gaming.

If you like 3D then yes but to get battery life I had to root mine then use gemini app manager to kill lg bloatware apps. Problem is that if you get one and update it you will get v21b which patches the ability to root as mine is v21a.
It is good and people claim cyanogen mod 9 will make it better but it does only have 512mb ram. That said though high def 3d videos play flawlessly and the game converter is great

I personally would go with the nexus. Once you get bored of the 3d gimmic the phone is pretty standard in my opinion.
prefer galaxy nexus...
I went through 3 of the AT&T version, the Thrill. Each one was defective, and the third got so hot the adhesive around the screen melted after 2 days. Plus, and this is personal opinion, the 3D just gave me headaches.

Optimus is better specs wise and has 3D which is a fun extra feature. Also its dual core which is better and will be getting android 4.0 this year so your sure to get newest operating system on it.
Specs say it has a fm radio on optimus but mine was not enabled however on the xda optimus 3D forum is an fm radio apk that installs and works perfectly on it if you get one and want radio included.
If you change from an iphone you will notice some big differences though. For example android does full multitasking whereas iphone doesn't so some people say you will get lag when doing several things at once.
Also when you install an app the phone becomes unresponsive for about half a second during installation process. Not sure why but all my phones have so I guess its an android thing.
I have a rooted optimus using go launchet and I like it but there are better phones out there for similar prices though experia play is not one of them and if you don't want the 3D aspect a better option might be something else dual core but with more ram as 512mb is enough now but may not be for much longer.
It does play high def 3D video perfectly though. Camera is good but the camera app isn't so if you get one try an app like camera zoom fx which will do a much better job.
Dave

both are decent phones, go to the store and play with both of them, get a feel and you'll be able to best choose. gsmarena has a good comparison site that will go over features
By the looks of it, your on at&t. If that is so, go with Galaxy S 2. Great phone and will get ics. If its tmobile, either HTC sensation or their galaxy s2 , which is still great.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
If by Optimus 3D you mean the Thrill 4G on AT&T then don't count on ICS. The Optimus 3D has been confirmed to be getting ICS right around the time people will be wanting JellyBean. But, there is no mention of the Thrill getting it. The Thrill is still on Froyo, vs the O3D has the GB update. But, they are not similar enough for that to translate into a easy to install stable port.
Depends on your use desires. If you don't care about what version of android you are running, and just want a basic smart phone the Thrill is better than the Xperia play, spec wise. Plan on getting extra chargers or batteries. But if you want something for lots of game playing while the specs aren't the best those dedicated game controls come in handy. But, if you want the best and/or most future proof phone on AT&T today, get the Galaxy S II, the original - i777 - not the Skyrocket.
I'm in Australia just trying to find a fun feature rich phone for my budget and the 3D aspect sounds pretty alright but I can't find anywhere that says if the output to a 3D tv is any good the only reason I was thinking play was for the dedicated gaming buttons.

Check the Optimus 3D forums. I fairly certain it does output 3D content on a 3D TV over HDMI. But, I don't have a 3D screen, so I never tried with my Thrill. A 3D TV and the Optimus 3D use different types of 3D technology (no glasses required on the Optimus 3D), so the files are different.
The 3D games are fun, but I always have trouble playing games with on screen controls, they cover so much of the game on a 4.3" screen. But, with the controls of the Xperia its like having a PSP built into your phone. Much better gaming experience.

The iPhone runs on far more than 2 evil empires. It runs on three in the US alone.
The iPhone definately has its advantages. For my wife its the best thing. She doesn't want to worry certain things. It is more stable, and simpler to use. But everytime I use it, it feels laggy compared to my SGS II. Plus the screen is so small, I couldn't imagine playing serious games with on screen controls on a 3.5" screen. I did the iPhone thing, and it would take some serious face lift (it hasn't changed much from 4 years ago, and I don't mean just add more stolen ideas from android) to iOS and a 4"+ screen to get me to even consider it.

I know the O3D is rootable and can run custom ROMs. Not sure on Xperia. With both devices having unique hardware (3D and game controls) that does limit possibilities like Cyanogen. You can probably get CM7 on both of them, but it won't support the unique things about them.

The optimus outputs to tv fine at same resolution as source material but my tv is 2D so 3D content shows as side by side video.
You can root the phone as mine is rooted. As for roms there are a couple and apparently cm9 is coming to optimus as well. But I use stock gb rom so can't comment on other roms.

I use a replacement camera app for normal pics but for 3D ones the default app is not great if the subject is moving much like if your trying to take a pic of a cat or dog and they move as there is a camera delay although the 3D effect is good especially compared to evo 3D.
On stock lg launcher you may get lag though I never noticed any but I use go launcher now. Its a good phone but if your considering it you may want to check out the optimus 3D forum here at xda as there are lots of comments there and threads about good and bad points that will help you get a better idea if its for you or not.
Its a good phone and I wouldn't swap mine for anything but I love 3D. If you like 3D its a great choice but if 3D isn't important you can get faster phones with more ram for similar sort of price.
There is sometimes small delay as an app opens but no lag I have noticed and playing games in converted 3D is great

It'll be out with GB before our phone gets it. I think you'd have to be crazy to buy it though. I have been sorely burned by LG this time. The fact that it's releasing with GB instead of ICS is just a repeat of how our phones launched with Froyo instead of GB.
3D max is basically same as evo 3D ..

I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?zsfi3p
If LG swaps it free with my O3D then only I will get it otherwise never LG phone.
I'd rather trade my O3D and pick up Galaxy SIII.
it was my first and last LG phone, bought it cause my x10 died lol, but no won't buy it, so few more months and will get an xperia S, which has better specs (except for the sd card slot) and can take 3d panorama pics, so I'm in
Not buying one until I see what other 3D phones are announced this year, at worst I will get one after it gets updated to ICS.
I'm definitely "tech-savvy who loves 3D"...and the 3D Game Converter from LG is a must-have IMO, I hope a competitor can offer something superior though

LG has some of the best hardware but is by far the worst when it comes to the software of their phones.
O3D is their flagship phone at the moment but its performance is not quite as convincing as other dual-cores, mainly due to the bad software implementation. Not to mention, the fiasco with the ghost calls issue which is a huge embarrassment for a company the size of LG.
But even if LG had the best software in the world, it wouldn't be any reason to get the new O3D Max which has almost the same specifications like the old O3D. They could have at least increased the screen resolution in order to see less pixelated picture in 3D mode.
I used to complain about SE x10 software it was laggy but they mature after a while and now it's cool, i'll get the xperia s,
indeed o3d has an incredible awful software, sometimes wifi crashes and the phone overheats, ram usage is high, sometimes i have like 70mb free
maybe lg will do a better job next time
I'll buy the updated model. Yes.
The only other serious 3D contender to date has been the HTC Evo 3D and having tried both I think the LG phone is the better 3D phone. The display is better at displaying 3D stills and video. The updated Gingerbread camera(s) are good.
A faster model with more RAM would be awesome. I'm looking forward to it.
2D-only phones are dead to me.

buying help

Hello, I'm thinking to buy this phone, I read about some weird multitocuh problem is it fixed in the new updates or still there causing problems?
Also what should I examine carefully any common problems manufacturing errors? like dead pixels etc, dead speaker, microphone or any hardware side problems.
Thanks for the answer
regards

The phone is .. cool ...
But do not buy it ..... because it has a lot of problems and support is hopeless for him, in a similar price htc 3D and if you're stuck on a 3D ......
HTC has great support and has the ICS and is also a new Android porta .... And we look forward to it ... there are very few developers ..
And if you do not care to support ... to purchase it ... Well done and a big problem I do not have with him

So you dont have this multitouch problem? i know who lg handles the support ^^ but evo 3d is more expensive, and less powerful.
I thought about optimus 2x since there are about no phones at these prices in hungary (dual cores) and i wanted 4.3" thats why optimus 3d over optimus 2x if there are no specific problems.
For me no multitouch problems. But also not recommanding this phone unless you are an LG fan, like me, you are fixed on 3D like me, own a 3D tv set like me otherwise is useless.Anyhow...buy it only if you are really convinced into it. If not, buy 2x or other.

well in hungary at this price I can only buy this phone with manufacturers warranty, or the p990 since I want 4.3" screen i think i buy this, is it that hard to root it?
This depends on the firmware but the old ones and the new ones are both easy to root
