Optimus is better specs wise and has 3D which is a fun extra feature. Also its dual core which is better and will be getting android 4.0 this year so your sure to get newest operating system on it.
Specs say it has a fm radio on optimus but mine was not enabled however on the xda optimus 3D forum is an fm radio apk that installs and works perfectly on it if you get one and want radio included.
If you change from an iphone you will notice some big differences though. For example android does full multitasking whereas iphone doesn't so some people say you will get lag when doing several things at once.
Also when you install an app the phone becomes unresponsive for about half a second during installation process. Not sure why but all my phones have so I guess its an android thing.
I have a rooted optimus using go launchet and I like it but there are better phones out there for similar prices though experia play is not one of them and if you don't want the 3D aspect a better option might be something else dual core but with more ram as 512mb is enough now but may not be for much longer.
It does play high def 3D video perfectly though. Camera is good but the camera app isn't so if you get one try an app like camera zoom fx which will do a much better job.

both are decent phones, go to the store and play with both of them, get a feel and you'll be able to best choose. gsmarena has a good comparison site that will go over features
By the looks of it, your on at&t. If that is so, go with Galaxy S 2. Great phone and will get ics. If its tmobile, either HTC sensation or their galaxy s2 , which is still great.

If by Optimus 3D you mean the Thrill 4G on AT&T then don't count on ICS. The Optimus 3D has been confirmed to be getting ICS right around the time people will be wanting JellyBean. But, there is no mention of the Thrill getting it. The Thrill is still on Froyo, vs the O3D has the GB update. But, they are not similar enough for that to translate into a easy to install stable port.
Depends on your use desires. If you don't care about what version of android you are running, and just want a basic smart phone the Thrill is better than the Xperia play, spec wise. Plan on getting extra chargers or batteries. But if you want something for lots of game playing while the specs aren't the best those dedicated game controls come in handy. But, if you want the best and/or most future proof phone on AT&T today, get the Galaxy S II, the original - i777 - not the Skyrocket.
I'm in Australia just trying to find a fun feature rich phone for my budget and the 3D aspect sounds pretty alright but I can't find anywhere that says if the output to a 3D tv is any good the only reason I was thinking play was for the dedicated gaming buttons.

Check the Optimus 3D forums. I fairly certain it does output 3D content on a 3D TV over HDMI. But, I don't have a 3D screen, so I never tried with my Thrill. A 3D TV and the Optimus 3D use different types of 3D technology (no glasses required on the Optimus 3D), so the files are different.
The 3D games are fun, but I always have trouble playing games with on screen controls, they cover so much of the game on a 4.3" screen. But, with the controls of the Xperia its like having a PSP built into your phone. Much better gaming experience.

The iPhone runs on far more than 2 evil empires. It runs on three in the US alone.
The iPhone definately has its advantages. For my wife its the best thing. She doesn't want to worry certain things. It is more stable, and simpler to use. But everytime I use it, it feels laggy compared to my SGS II. Plus the screen is so small, I couldn't imagine playing serious games with on screen controls on a 3.5" screen. I did the iPhone thing, and it would take some serious face lift (it hasn't changed much from 4 years ago, and I don't mean just add more stolen ideas from android) to iOS and a 4"+ screen to get me to even consider it.

I know the O3D is rootable and can run custom ROMs. Not sure on Xperia. With both devices having unique hardware (3D and game controls) that does limit possibilities like Cyanogen. You can probably get CM7 on both of them, but it won't support the unique things about them.

The optimus outputs to tv fine at same resolution as source material but my tv is 2D so 3D content shows as side by side video.
You can root the phone as mine is rooted. As for roms there are a couple and apparently cm9 is coming to optimus as well. But I use stock gb rom so can't comment on other roms.

I use a replacement camera app for normal pics but for 3D ones the default app is not great if the subject is moving much like if your trying to take a pic of a cat or dog and they move as there is a camera delay although the 3D effect is good especially compared to evo 3D.
On stock lg launcher you may get lag though I never noticed any but I use go launcher now. Its a good phone but if your considering it you may want to check out the optimus 3D forum here at xda as there are lots of comments there and threads about good and bad points that will help you get a better idea if its for you or not.
Its a good phone and I wouldn't swap mine for anything but I love 3D. If you like 3D its a great choice but if 3D isn't important you can get faster phones with more ram for similar sort of price.
There is sometimes small delay as an app opens but no lag I have noticed and playing games in converted 3D is great

Most Xperia's have locked bootloaders, so i would go for the O3D if I were you. Stock software may be sucky on the O3D, but no doubt it has a great developer base

I voted LG, the HTC looks like it's not coming out in the UK
Also, on the 1Gb vs 512Mb debate, Sense 3.0 takes up a HUGE amount of RAM, so much so that the HTC Sensation (768Mb RAM) occasionally stutters and isn't as fast as the Evo 3D

Have you tried HTC EVO 3D yet, to compare both phones, if yes, which you think is better and why?
^
nope, only manage to see some review units.
3D wise, the optimus 3D wins hands down.
the 3D on the evo 3D looks pale and awkward and it is difficult to find the right spot for the evo 3D's 3D viewing.
i haven't tested evo 3d's software and overall performance so i can't really comment on that.
LG has a better 3D UI plus comes with 3D Games
Does the HTC come with Games etc?

I´ve just read some first impressions from the EVO guys and almost everyone is impressed by the 3D Features of their phone so far. Even those that had a rather negative attitude towards that aspect in advance.
Given that the O3D got better ratings (regarding 3D) in every comparison (but one) this is quite exciting don't you think?
To answer the poll:
I obviously chose the O3D. I just like the Omap Chipset better and i really like the direction LG is heading at the moment. Their latest handsets are of some really high quality and i'd like to support them. The O3D is a good looking device and i really hope that it gets some serious attention here at XDA.
Come on LG. Hurry up. Release this bad boy already!!!!! Want some custom roms on it!!! I know xda devs can make this phone an even better device.

I must say I agree with you that LG seems to be going in the right direction, however I don't know if they're really there yet. The fact that the O3D comes with Froyo (no idea when Gingerbread will actually arrive) and some experiences with the 2X disappoint me. In addition, the Evo 3D seems to be capable of doing portrait 3D as well which is a plus over the O3D.
I'll just wait if and when the Evo 3D gets released here in Europe and check here regularly to see the experiences of a number of users.
LG O3D looks like the better choice because it has better specs, but if HTC Evo3D is cheaper, I may choose that instead.
The few extra pixels of the Evo3D may compensate for the crappier 3D it may have...

Well, it would be foolish not to see that there still is much room for improvement on LG side to get accepted on a broader base.
Public relations and customer support is still bad and they almost seem to stumble while trying to catch up. Of course i heard of the reboot problems of the 2X and the fact that the O3D will ship with Froyo is irritating to say the least. But these points are still no dealbreakers for me. This baby is open for developers and is a very good foundation for future updates.
And let´s not forget that the EVO3D seems not to be the heavyweight contender that has been expected by a lot of people. After reading all the available reviews i feel that it has been rushed. While still being a top notch handset, it doesn't seem to bring the expected htc-quality to the table.
It´s kinda sad and also surprising to see that a lot of the HTC fellas seem to be too stubborn to acknowledge what the O3D has to offer. It´s an LG with 512MB so it has to suck...
I really hope to see some honest comparisons by some of the major websites soon!
Btw, if they somehow managed to accomplish 3D in both orientations, which i still believe is mostly imagination by the few who say it works - no offense, it also seems to go at the cost of overall 3D quality.
from phonedog
Though it's the first 3D smartphone to come to a US carrier, I've been working with the unlocked LG Optimus 3D, and I have to say, EVO's 3D abilities aren't as strong. The colors seem to be a bit washed out, and the 3D effect is more brash than the Optimus 3D. After viewing it for five or ten minutes, I had a headache
p.s. LG italy told me that O3D and 2X developer teams are different.
O3D and Evo 3D battle review and video:
http://www.slashgear.com/battle-for...ptimus-3d-hardware-comparison-video-17160099/
Evo3D wins here.
So I am looking at getting another phone this week, preferably as soon as possible
The phone has to be from Rogers in Canada, which means that I can choose from:
A: HTC Evo 3D
B: LG Optimus 3D
C: Samsung Galaxy S2 or
D: Samsung Infuse
I'm coming from a HTC Desire, and really like Sense, though it's not an absolute requirement. As a matter of fact, I kinda like the new Touchwiz.
I really want a dual core CPU, so it's at least somewhat future proof, and since I'm not too keen on too big screens, 4 inches would be perfect. I could live with 4.3 inches though, as long as the rest of the phone isn't too wide, since I like to use it with one hand.
I've been pretty impressed with the 3D screens I've seen on the LG and Nintendo 3DS, but while a 3D screen would be kinda cool, it's by no means a must have.
What I really want in a new phone, besides performance and a fluid interface, is a reasonable battery life. Something like 6 hours of non stop browsing, and a full day, 12-16 hours with moderate use. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Any help would be mostly appreciated!
So far I'm kinda stuck, since all of the phones above have their unique advantages.
The Galaxy 2 has it's awesome vivid screen, but the Evo 3D has a higher resolution on it's screen. The LG on the other hand has a better 3D effect, from what I've heard, and apparently has the most powerful CPU/SOC...
3D screens look pretty nifty, and I've been impressed with the

Battery life is much improved with gingerbread but still not great. I used four percent in three hours playing mp3s which is good but as soon as you touch gaming etc you eat battery life up.
I think I played game dev story for about two hours before my battery got low. I would get bigger battery if you get optimus 3D and intend gaming.

If you like 3D then yes but to get battery life I had to root mine then use gemini app manager to kill lg bloatware apps. Problem is that if you get one and update it you will get v21b which patches the ability to root as mine is v21a.

I have own it in the past but dont' like it, that's why i go for O3D as it better 3D and more contents. the thing i miss from HTC is the sense, that's why i got HD2, the most famous phone that you can get.

Hey guys,so ive asked this same question in the Xperia PLAY section so i wanted to get some opinions here..
A friend of mine wants to swap his LG Optimus 3d with my Xperia PLAY.. Ive had the PLAY for a year and now im Addicted to ANDROID! Gamepad isnt everything although i do love gaming.. So is it a good deal to take the optimus 3d?
If it was me I would change, you just can't beat the 3d. However Experia is very fast and better responsive/feels and is supported much better.
Optimus has great 3D and handles gaming well but can get laggy at times. An update to ics later this year should solve the lag though as then can have apps free up ram better than they do now.

Xperia:
the xperia support is also as bad. and the phone laggs as hell. and it will not get ics.
it really becomes slow when you install some stuff on it.
Games will lagg after some time. and the battery drains in 1 hour when using games.
Optimus 3D
my O3D never laggs with thiaiz 2.8 on it.
the 3d feature is nice but i only use it to show to other people.
It has i really nice battery life on v21e(63% after 1 day of minor use)
The 3D uses much battery. but i almost never use it.
I should say get the optimus. It will be more futureproof.
or just sell the xperia and get something like a HTC Sensation XE or one X or Galaxy S 2 or 3.
