INSTRUCTIONS:
- Upgrading from previous Doubleshot CM9 Alpha?
1. It should be safe to flash the Alpha5 zip on top of previous alphas. DO backup your phone in case something goes wrong, but a wipe shouldn't be necessary coming from CM9 Alpha1.
NOTE that the install wipes /system, so you may find you need to reflash gapps.

1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager.
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. WIPE

----- CHANGES -----
Alpha6 Changelog (from Alpha5)
- Updated kernel base to v3.0.36 from upstream AOSP branch.
- Updated keylayout. TAB now mapped to ALT+TAB, www./.com functions properly.
- Camera is no longer crashing (in our testing). This is from an upstream CM frameworks change.
- Bluetooth wake lock is "fixed". When paired with handsfree audio, etc, and in standby, deep sleep works as expected.
- Bluetooth tethering is functional, though not 100% yet.
- Upstream changes in CyanogenMod. See http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z for info on these Upstream changes.
Please note that camera and bluetooth functionality are still a work in progress. In testing, we find more compatibility, less crashing, less power consumption overall. If you find steps to reproduce crashing, etc, please capture logs.
The current buglist:
- If you use Face Unlock, I have experienced an issue where sometimes the screen will go "dark" when attempting to unlock the phone, requiring a battery reset. This is infrequent, but only Face Unlock causes this problem.
- Recording in camcorder @ 1080 doesn't work. (Other modes are fine, we have not removed 1080p from options yet).
- Lights issues (more than one):
-- Function keys on physical keyboard do not light up (CAPS/ALT), but the buttons work.
-- Backlight on keyboard works most of the time, but can randomly go dark.
- Random battery statistics issues. Not all people have this issue, it seems specific to the battery you use.
- Google+ Hangouts do not work right now.
- Very occasional radio (4g and sometimes bluetooth/wifi) dropoff/reset. Some have reports a SIM card message requesting power reset, which can be cleared by hitting back. Other times, turning data on/off resolves issue.
Please note flashing someone else's kernel may ruin your experience with this rom and I advise against it. This rom was a joint effort between kornyone & tbalden. Does it matter how minor the bugs are or if they're incredibly random? I made a post yesterday to mention a few small glitches with CM9 but I don't want to report them if no one else might be seeing what I saw with my phone.
I can understand reporting an issue if it's possible to replicate it but if it's random in nature like mine is, how can it be addressed if only one person is seeing it?
Any and all bugs. Since this is a user thread, we can report anything.

Hey guys,
Today i had complete data dropout on Alpha 6. Tried everything i could think of including fixing permissions, several reboots (through cyano & by removing battery), reconnecting to APN's, airplane mode & back, etc and could just not get it to work. It would look like it connected to 3G every once in a while but it would stay like that for less than a second and then go back to all white bars.
Finally flashed back to a nandroid of Alpha 6 from before I flashed the A6 Kernel and my data came back.

Wifi not working for me on Cyagenmod 9 alpha 6
Hopefully this is the right place to post this. I'm very new to flashing custom ROMs, but I am an experienced Linux admin so I'm not a total noob. I flashed cyagenmod 9 alpha 6 and everything seems to be working well except I don't have any wifi. If I try to enable wifi, it just hangs.
I launched the terminal application and ran /system/bin/ifconfig and it didn't return anything. I wonder if I need to install kernel modules or update radio or something.
Could someone point me in the right direction or help me debug this?
Thanks,
Tim

H = T-Mobile 4G
H = HSPA
The 4g but is just an icon. When it flips back and forth between 3g and H instead of staying H/4G you are seeing the device kick into that faster protocol as needed and throttling back when it isn't needed.

I'm running CM9_A6 but with Alpha 5's kernel. You can flash it in a nice update.zip by wildchild right here. I'm getting the same battery life I got with stock, GB sense, etc. I'd also recommend the Anker 1900 mah battery (x2) with charger for $30 for a few extra hours of battery life. It's well worth it:cyclops:

yup... it's flipping from UTMS (lower power/speed) to HSPA(in most cases HSPA+) to save battery, network congestion, etc. As you said... they are just icons located in framework-res.apk... You can change 'em to say 5G lol! I did a few mods for some ICS themes on CM7 for HTC Vision. I should redo some for CM9. Basically, just change the H to H+, H to 4G, E to 2G, etc... I could redo them if anyone's interested. It's nothing too complicated: extract and decompile apk, edit pngs via photoshop, replace images, recompile and sign:silly: I really need to play around with ICSeseses framework some. ALOT has changed since GB. I wish I had as much time as I had hoped when I first got the DS. Work, home, life has kept me way more busy than I'd like lol! Well... getting off track here. My bad

I've worked for T-Mobile many times. They do not have "True 4G". How I see it, it's faster 3G. CyanogenMod says that T-Mobile is not 4G. That's why it's an H, for HSUPA. T-Mobile says it's 4G, but LTE is legit 4G. LTE has much more faster speeds that HSUPA.

Thanks Kali!
Currently running RC2, and everything is working very well. Running the stock radio, and HSUPA is obviously working with a Speed test of 2.1 mbps up. The issues with the proximity sensor I had experienced with earlier nightlies has been cleared up as well. I have ran all day at 1401 MHZ, and battery life has been fine. The ROM feels smooth, and I just posted a Quadrant score of 2250, for those that are interested in that sort of thing.
I've ran every other ROM out there, including the new ones based on the leaked HTC Gingerbread build. No other ROM feels as smooth as CM on my Inspire.
I did do a full wipe (including Dalvik) before I installed RC 2, which may account for the complete absence of troubling issues. The only thing worth noting is that you need to reboot the system after the initial setup BEFORE you connect to wireless. Not everyone has reported this issue, but I have had to do this every time I run a fresh install of CM.
So flash Tom and Google addon. There is no sound or GPS fix needed, correct? Haven't flashed cm7 since #11 so was excited to see this post.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Yep - the audio/gps fix is already included in RC2. :-D
the dsp fix version 5 still requires you to run google voice dialer to initialise the fix, otherwise the command returns the aic3254 status ON. fix is still broken.
close! I'll wait for the battery drain fix then jump aboard

this is what i was referring to, and it is NOT true. you MUST still run the google voice dialer to initialize the fix, or it will still pull 200+ mA, and the dsp chip will NOT turn off. sorry for the confusion.

flashed, and with the screen being off most of the time in a little over an hour i went from full to 85%, thatsd a litttle too much so i will wait until a proper battery fix is released and then happily flash this again as i liked it alot
big deal breaker is no group sms or one that i can figure out. also deleting threads one at a time or delete all. no way to select which ones
wish there was calibration settings for the keyboard recognition and the g-sensor like the stock rom has.
After flashing this i cant seem to get a GPS lock It finds maybe 3 and thats it. Is there a fix for this? (Telus DHD)
This rom is great BUT, i cant mount my sd cards. Every time it tells me the sd card is damaged. I've tried 4 different cards. They all dont mount.
EDIT: I flashed back to Revolution and sd cards work fine so its definitely a ROM issue.

all stuff is in the TeamDS repo. Using them will build you the Alpha that is available on the cyanogenmod site. So yes, it should work!

So all I have to say is, awesome. Thank you so much.

I am having issues connecting to corporate wi-fi. Mine shows connected but I can't get to the browser redirect screen to acknowledge the corporate wi-fi disclaimer.
Anyone else notice that the clock on the lockscreen does the jitterbug for the last digit? That and there is some weird stuff with the on screen number pad on the lockscreen.

In the next few weeks I will be releasing herring updates to JB 4.2.2. I expect the same quality, and that will mean an update for those that like using CM-9.1.0. So stay tuned!
CREDITS
First off, credits need to be in order.
Big thanks goes out to jt1134 for making this all possible. CM9 on SGS4G would not be without his contributions! Please click thanks and donate on his posts!
Thanks to jeffsf for his "hefe kernel" changes. These add OC/UV and many other slick performance hacks! Thanks!
Ultimately some of those changes came from AntonX. Thanks to you too!
Also a big thanks to krylon360 for providing a mirror (which is fast as hell!)
Since this tree is basically a hack on our CM7 wip, thanks go to teamacid and everyone that helped to test CM7 and CM9!QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS?
Beastmode started a Q&A thread here. Do not ask questions or "Say Thanks" here. Just hit the thanks button.
This thread is for development *ONLY*. If you don't have anything to contribute to making this rom/kernel better, please post in said Q&A thread.WHAT WORKS and WHAT DOES NOT WORK
Working:
MTD and YAFFS2.
2.6.35.7-cyanogenmod-ICS kernel + jeffsf's "hefe" changes (Hopefully soon, we can finish porting to Aries/3.0.8)
Tiny Preempt RCU in the kernel for lower memory allocation overhead.
ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) 6.0.1.2
Power Management (kinda, there are some wake lock issues that cause the phone to reboot)
2D and 3D Graphics
Ringtones
Modem/Radio/RIL
SMS/MMS
Bluetooth
GPS
WiFi
Sound (minus incoming call ringtones, see Not Working)
Brightness control (but not auto brightness control, see Not Working)
BLN (Requires the use of neldar's BLN application. Use the pro version for the best experience)
Vibration
Still Camera (and ffc)
Camcorder (and ffc)
Panorama (and ffc)
Video Encoding and Decoding
cpufreq/underclocking - Thanks to AntonX and jeffsf
Rebooting to recovery
USB Mounting in Android and Recovery Mode
Voodoo sound
Wireless Tethering
911 - Thanks for reporting, Rebel_X and WillieWonka1985!
TV-Out
Advanced in Settings Menu.
CM File Manager *New - Thanks to FBis251
Not Working:
Auto Brightness control

Car/Desk dock audio
WiFi-Calling (this might never work)
Wired Tethering
Untested:
You tell me...
If anything here looks wrong, let me know and I will be happy to update this OP.
CHANGELOG
For now, checkout the teamacid github
And here is the local_manifest.xml
Instructions
Download the ROM zip file to your SD card
Reboot to CWM/TWRP
Do a factory reset (only needed if you were not previously running cm9 - herring)
Format /system (same as with factory reset, only needed if not previously running cm9 - herring)
Flash the ROM using CWM/TWRP
(Optional) Flash gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip if you want the Market plus other Google apps.
Clear cache and dalvik cache, fixing permissions at this point is a good idea!
Reboot to the ROM
If you previously had IMEI/EFS problems, flash back to stock with Eollie's Heimdall OneClick, then flash CM9 from there. NOTE: currently wifi will not work after flashing the oneclick. Known issue.
Flashing from 3.0.2.8 recovery does not work. Make sure the version of your recovery is 5.0.2.x (x being 7 or 8). If you use eollie's oneclick, you will have the right recovery.
This kernel is currently herring (stock) based. We plan to change to aries when it stabilizes.
So above where I say "cm9 - herring", that is different then "cm9 - aries".
Got problems? Ask in the Q&A Thread!

I think there is parts missing from the data usage tab. I can't set a limit and its telling me no data has been used but a lot actually has. Not really sure how to report it though because theres nothing in the logs
Auto Brightness DOES work, it just takes a while for it to actually kick in.
And yeah, the Data Usage screen doesn't seem to be keeping track of anything for me.
Tested and Working
- Bluetooth - Working (on first try it froze my phone)
- GPS - Working excellent (it shows exactly where I am in Puerto Rico). Its also displaying if I move north west east our south more quickly than before.
- Weather Lockscreen displays the location as well.
- Wi-FI - Working
I did notice that when synching with Facebook it no longer says only facebook friends that have their phone. It sync the whole friend list.
- Tmobile Visual Voicemail is NOW supported. FIXED. (Check attached file)
- Tethering works on both USB and Wi-Fi.
- Ringtones not working.
- SMS/MMS Working.
Im still exploring so stay tuned.

Please don't shout. There is a fix coming. We had this issue in early CM7 builds. We just need to bring over changes from CM7.

These kernels are for CyanogenMod 10 - Alpha 4.
The goal of these builds is to fix the issues with phone signal, which is not properly working with the stock kernel. Nothing was changes, no extra features, no nothing.
There won't be any more "development" now that the bug is fixed.
The experimental sync bug fix, as the name says, it's a new sync bug fix I was testing. It's here because it partially fixed the missing signal issue at first, but it's not the real fix.

kernel-cm-10-A4-signal_fix-exp.zip: experimental sync bug fix [0003, 0004] + signal fix [0001, 0002] - (previously known as V2)
kernel-cm-10-A4-restore.zip: stock alpha 4 kernel.
Note: I forgot to change the "name" of the kernel, so you'll get [email protected]_CM9. Don't worry, it's for CM10
Even though I marked V2 as experimental build and I added it as alternative choice, it's the most downloaded version.
As I reported several time ago, mobile data is maybe less stable with it and I think it's because the PDA state is controlled with early suspend instead of the regulr suspend, as it was in the old Samsung releases. In case of problems, flash V1.
If you noticed anything, please report
Source code:
android_kernel_samsung_latona at 0e84cc4896 + patches attached, applied as indicated above.
I verified that when a stock ROM is used, GPIO 126 is normally set to 0.

If you are stuck at Samsung splash screen and you are unable to reboot in recovery (I don't know why some users are facing this issue), so you are not able to flash another kernel or restore a backup, you can try to flash one of the kernels with ODIN.
Downloads:
kernel-cm-10-A4-signal_fix-ODIN.tar: dhiru's kernel + signal fix [0001, 0002] - (previously known as V1)
kernel-cm-10-A4-signal_fix-ODIN-exp.tar: experimental sync bug fix [0003, 0004] + signal fix [0001, 0002] - (previously known as V2)
kernel-cm-10-A4-restore-ODIN.tar: stock alpha 4 kernel.
Reboot in Download mode and flash as PDA.
Kernel modules are not included in the PDA. They are not necessary if you were using dhiru's CM with no custom kernels. If you are not sure, do as follows:
Flash kernel as PDA with ODIN (assuming you are stuck at Samsung splash screen and can't reboot in recovery)
Reboot in recovery (pull the battery if nothing works and use the three-keys combo)
Flash CyanogenMod 10 zip (your data will be preserved)
Flash once again kernel as PDA with ODIN

Update: Now I know what stock ROMs use (GPIO 126 = 0). I'll soon update the kernel.
I already wrote that this won't be a custom kernel, no extra features, overclock etc. I opened this thread simply to test a fix, that's why I opened it in the general section, even though the dev section would have been more appropriate.

As I posted in dhiru's thread, with my kernel I catch the mobile signal faster than with the stock kernel. I don't have to wait, all I have to do is to turn off and then on the screen once.
I've recently done some changes to my kernel regarding the sync bug. So, suspecting those changes are what makes the difference, I applied the same changes to dhiru's kernel and built it.
I tried to reboot few times and there's really a difference, at least for me.
I suspect that with the stock kernel there are only issues in reporting the current intensity, because 3G and calls seem to work.

I don't know if battery life is affected, if the sync bug is really gone (no issues till now) or if there are issues with this kernel (I'm not using it. I only tested it for a few minutes). Flash at your own risk.
Don't report any bug in CM10 thread if you are using this kernel. Use the restore zip first, try to reproduce the bug and then report.
Question
Hi loSconosciuto, i have one question regard alpha 4. I have problem with signal too (as i posted in alpha 4 general thread) but i think it is beacuse my modem (LUBKPD) has been overwrite to DDLE1. Is there any posibility to create a flashable zip only to overwrite my (our, for those who live in south america and has the same problem). Sorry to ask you but i do not know what to do, cause my media storage don't get recognize and i can`t back to stock rom and no one reply my question in general, my phone is practically a stone, except for that moment when get signal (sms and calls only). Thank you!

I could, but I don't have LUBKPD modem.
All you have to do is to take modem.bin from the PDA of your ROM (as you may know, you can open it as a normal tar), copy it in /radio overwriting the existing one and reboot. Permissions will be automatically set on reboot.
If you want, here two (different) flashable zips I made for myself. You have to replace modem.bin inside of the zip with yours and then flash.
radio-cm-XXLE4-galaxysl-signed.zip (will erase /radio and then copy the modem)
radio-cm-KPU-galaxysl-noerase-signed.zip (will simply copy the modem)
Works perfectly. Thank you dear Sir
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
Ok, I think I almost fixed the problem. sec_get_param_value is an exported symbol defined in param.ko (yeah, brilliant...), but we don't use that module anymore in alpha4. The consequence is that the function that turns on the modem is never executed completely.
It still needs some improvements. switch_sel is never set or initialized, but at least the connection is immediately enstablished now. The problem is that I'm not sure which is the best option, so I'll wait for more opinions about it.
In the meanwhile I built two new kernels:
kernel V1: includes only the sec_get_param_value fix
kernel V2: includes both the first change (the reworked sync bug) and the sec_get_param_value fix
V2 is a little bit more "experimental".
OP updated with the new patch.

I wrote some of the original instructions on the i9003 forums, so procedure/method is not a problem here.
I think the issue is I flashed the v2 kernel over the ParanoidAndroid latest 2.54 Alpha4 assuming that as the base is this ROM, the kernel would work. But got a soft brick. Its all fine now, had to go through the whole KPE, LF2 process and now flashing CM10 Aplha4.
If you could just tell me if replacing the modem.bin from LF4 is enough for the signal issues or do I still need to flash the V2 kernel?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Flashed V2 but got a 2nd soft brick. Went through the whole process again () My signal and data are working but the indicator is greyed out.
resolved problems
I had problems relating to signal strength and storage.
Thanks and its now working perfectly.

I'm very well mate, you? :highfive:
Just been off the radar due to a choked studio schedule. I've been somewhat active on the One X forums though.
Cousin asked me to update his SL (passed on from me) and this happened last night. I'm not sure whether to flash the v2 kernel again as signal etc is working but the icon is all grey and it takes about 15 mins after a reboot to get signal. Don't have the time to go through the entire clean flash process all over again.

2. Install SMS Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your SMS history.
3. Install Call Logs Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your call log history.
4. Boot into CWM recovery. Make a full Backup. You will need this backup later if you decide to go back to your previous ROM and data.
5. It is recommended that you wipe data before installing CM10.2 for the first time.
Additional Disclaimer:
Any bug reports coming from an Unofficial CM10.2 build, or a modified/patched Official CM10.2 build (modem patch, kernels, etc.) should be directed to the originating thread. It is hard enough to provide bug support for the official releases without having to worry about bugs that may have been introduced by outside means. Bug reports are very welcome if you can reproduce them after flashing back to an official, stock build. We do want to be able to fix all the things. Thank you.
**Google Apps are not included in these ROMs. You'll need to install those yourself if you want them. Recommended and highly suggested are the 4.3 gapps from goo.im. Any other versions could result in problems.
Preview Builds
cm-10.2-20131125-UNOFFICIAL-epicmtd.zip
Known Issues:
- 3g data mostly working as of 09/13 build. 3g data will reconnect properly after turning wifi off. No need to disable mobile data before turning on wifi. However, I have noticed occassions where 3G will show as connected, but the data connection is not actually active. This can be verified with a terminal app by using the "netcfg" command. If you do not see the ppp0 interface (or just know that your data is not working), a toggle of the mobile data will most likely reconnect your data.
- 3g data partially working as of 08/14 build. Must boot with wifi off. To reconnect to data after turning wifi off, a reboot is necessary.
GPS is working. However, if you are unable to get a lock, toggle the GPS satelites off & on to reset. If possible, use an app like GPS Status to verify.
/system partition has been resized as of 10/07 build - 39MB have been taken from /data, and 21MB taken from /cache, adding 60MB to /system. MAKE BACKUPS and format /system, /data, & /cache before updating.
- /system partition is too small (again), although enough of the gapps package seems to install so there are no major issues (That I've noticed). This will be adjusted in the not-too-distant future.
- Wimax temporarily disabled
Focal has been removed from official builds.
- Focal will take pictures. But it takes a few seconds to save them. And may crash if you take too many. Feel free to check it out anyway.
- Current bluetooth behavior untested.
- Wired headset mic & buttons. (Yeah, Yeah, someday...)
- Probably more.

Be sure to use these gapps. There is nothing on goo.im yet, but these are as close as you can get to being 'official'.
Patches for devs:
- Check gerrit for any unmerged patches. Everything included in this build has been either merged or uploaded for review.
- This patch is also necessary to prevent rild from crashing. Merged.

He had one on cm-10.1 thread and go to youtube there are plenty of videos and reviews.
Well... (sigh) Being unable to debug builds (i.e. not a dev) always means you will not be the first to push it to the public
Anyway, proper good job mate! Still gonna try this out (bugs don't matter, I never get to step on them) but I will try building again, maybe...

Believe me, it does bother me to keep listing that bug.
WARNING: If you are not already on an official CM10, CM10.1, or CM10.2 build, this will wipe your data due to a resizing of the mtd partitions. If you wish to go back to another ROM, you will need to ODIN back to stock. Currently, the partition sizes are the same between CM10, CM10.1, and CM10.2

Slightly off: I always see ROM OPs say that we need to Odin to revert the new MTD partition, but for me it never happened that way. When you're on new MTD ROMs like CM10, 10.1, 10.2, just wipe everything and flash the old MTD ROM you want. I don't know if the ROMs themselves have reverted the partition layout to the old one, but at least they boot and work as they would always. Oh, and if you're on a new MTD ROM and willing to nandroid back to an old ROM's backup, just wipe, install the old ROM first (to convert partition), reboot recovery, wipe again and restore nandroid.
Nice work bbelos!
Ever since we got official CM status for our phone, the development continues to amaze me. This is no exception. 4.3 on this phone is going to prevent me from jumping ship until I see something that really wows me.

@bbelos can you do a commit to remove the branches from cm.dependencies since the manifest chooses the correct one

Now we join the (not so long) list of phones whose highest Android version available/installable is 2+ times their initial/release Android version...
HTC Dream (G1) released with 1.0 and ended up in 4.1.1
Nexus One (and some QSD8x50) released with 2.1 and ended up in 4.2.2 (no 4.3 as of yet)
USA Galaxy S family released with 2.1 and ended up in 4.3 (like us )

Man, if development doesn't pick up for my Optimus G by time I get back home from tour in a few weeks, I just may have to come back to my Epic and try this out

Yup, partly because the S5PC110 board is still good to go at this point, and partly because of you guys maintaining it constantly
(BTW I hate mentioning "aries" since it's the codename for Xiaomi MI-2 series, and I HATE XIAOMI AND MIUI, period. "aries" doesn't seem to be the board name then what does it represent?)

Last I checked there was already unofficial CM10.1 for Sprint variant... and I thought that was enough Not having been officially supported really is a bummer though.
Off-topic: for the same criteria I'd like to buy a second-hand T-Mo GS Relay 4G just because it combines E4G's keyboard with MotoX-level interior and bearable community support (unofficial CM10.1 in 3.4 kernel).
I also would like to say thank you to these wonderful devs for keeping our phones relevant while our phone already has almost 4 generations ahead of it!
I remember way back when I was contemplating between buying the Epic vs. the Evo, today I decided to take a quick peak at the Evo forums just to remind myself how lucky we are to have devs who still care about our phone, thank you for that
