Hello, when i was using droidx to install roms i had to be rooted and i had to purchase and use dx bootstrap and rom manager to install roms. With the droid charge do i have to install programs like bootstrap and rom manager to install roms? I see there is a Rom developed that is already rooted and deoxed so do i need to be rooted to install that Rom and is there a way to get back to stock if something goes wrong? Is there a way to unbrick your phone if you get pricked? Is there a way to sbf back like you can with droidx?

This needs to be in general but
For samsung it is different than moto I had a droid 2 you don't have to use apps for this you use odin to flash atm DO NOT use rom manger to back up or restore it will perm brick ur phone for now I would just root with adb until a stable cwm is ready

I have used Odin a flash program for Samsung phones I use it on my charge for all the above questions. Hope this helps
I soft bricked my phone on accident, So I decided to un soft brick it. So, I returned it to it's stock form. But, I installed the Rogers stock form. When I was suppose to install the AT&T stock form. Is there a way for me to change from Android Version 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.RUXKJ7 to a 4.0.3 ICS ?
You can use Odin with the correct ics stock rom to get it back to where you want. See vicom's stickies.(in development section) They have what you need.

I tried installing the Stock files listed there multiple time, I keep getting errors.
Sammobile.com has the official files. You'll need to extract the tar.md5 file out of the zip using 7-zip and flash that with Odin.
You should also try a different usb port first as they seem to be touchy.
If Odin recovers your device you're still ok

Who has the VM USA Galaxy S2 variant, what did you flash and are currently running? I am curious to know what others use as daily drivers, what has worked for them, and how they went about obtaining it.
I have looked around but to no avail in the last few months have I seen a huge dev support for SPH-D710VMUB. I have successfully updated my phone to sxtp GB28 Rom w/ root and MidnightRom but have not tried CM10.1 because of rom issues and flashing confusion.
I have recently flashed CarbonRom (LOVE IT) because it was listed in MidnightRoms goomanager app under "other compatible roms". At the time I did not know it was strictly for Sprint but it took okay. Everything seems to work flawlessly except data of course (no 3G/4G therefore no MMS, GPS, etc.) I have looked at APN apps (have a thread made for that), but no luck on getting any of it to work.
Check out my thread on CarbonRom. I'm thinking of close it down since I have this one up now. It has images and links however.

Please, VM users/devs, use this thread to openly discuss and share anything pertaining to this device.
Another one
Found another awesome rom called ReVolt:

Check it out. Probably need to flash a Sprint ICS or older modem to get data to work on Virgin Mobile.
Btw, I did get data working by flashing a Sprint ICS/GB modem. Check out my thread on that.

I'd like to introduce another awesome ROM called Domination. Go check it out for the E4GT.

Note that these are ROMs that I have tested. There could be more out there!

If you want to recover your touchwiz nandroid coming from a CM10 based ROM or clockwork mod recovery, you will need to restore first time using CWM then when your new ROM and recovery are flashed, boot up system then go back into recovery (which should now be Agats) and restore the nandroid one more time doing this.
The reason being, CM10 CWM is not fully compatible with TW basedbased ROMs and so they won't fully restore your ROM. I figured this out myself.

Did you use clockwork to install those? If so how did you install it?

The best ROM I have found for my Samsung Galaxy SII is "RootBox-JB-i9100-V4.0". Long battery life, super fast UI, all latest utilities and features. I love my SII with this ROM

It's a little complicated than that. Remember, on Samsung phones, the rom and recovery are intertwined. Meaning when you flash your ROM it will have a recovery specific to that ROM. CWM/CM10 recoveries aren't fully compatible with TouchWiz Roms. You'll need an altered version of CWM/TWRP for that.
I went and flashed GB28 rooted with Agats recovery by sxtp developers. It has a full tutorial on that page. Specific to virgin mobile. You'll need to download the drivers and software and its pretty straight forward. I'll post a link.
If you want to go from there to a CM10 based ROM afterwards, I can help you.

No. Most all of the ROMs you flash will have root access in one form or another. TW will have SuperSU and CM10, SuperUser/BusyBox most likely. So don't worry about root. And when you flash a ROM, you will be flashing its new recovery also. No, it should not mess anything up if you follow the method specific to the ROM.

Here is what I would do: Use Odin (mobile or PC) to flash a rooted version of your stock ROM. It could have a recovery to it or not. If not, then after you flash the stock ROM, flash a compatible recovery. I used Agats for TW. Once you have that, download the CM10 zip, boot into recovery. It is advised you follow their instructions however this is how I did mine. It worked for the most part.
Once you are in agats cwm recovery, wipe data/ factory reset/cache/dalvik. Don't think you need to format, but to he safe it'd be system/cache/data (check on that). Don't format internal or you will lose everything (like backups and zips among the important). You can then flash your ROM and gapps.
Reboot, will take a little while. Then go back into recovery when you can (it should be a new recovery that came with the ROM). Do all of the same methods above for a clean install of your ROM in this new recovery. Boot, and you SHOULD be set to go. Hope this helps.

You can google virgin mobile galaxy s2 gb28 recovery. It'll be on sex tapes forums. Follow their guide and they will have rooted and unrooted versions of the official jellybean release with agats. Also look for a user named TheBritton who has, literally a "noobs guide" to all ROMs/methods with links, for our phone. I'll find a link.

AS ALWAYS DO A NANDROID BACKUP OF STOCK AND USE TITANIUM FOR APPS
You can use rwilco's repository for files and his how-to description for odin here:

Yes, it did for me. I used Mobile Odin Pro because it was updated to recognize our version of E4GT. Try it on the free version and see if it takes.
How do I know if it took?

Is it done? Boot into recovery. Download ROM toolbox and use its Rebooter menu. Or do the manual way.

So you have the recovery flashed then. Which? Agats is for Touchwiz based ROMs not Cyanogenmod technically. Try my method. Go to sxtps website and look for GB28 w/Agats recovery. Flash a touchwiz ROM, like MidnightRom, then try CM10. (Or one of the better ROMs mentioned in this thread).

My phone was making me really mad because it was super slow, and could barely type anymore, I did everything so I factory reset and flashed a rom.
My wifi no longer works, and I'm not sure what to do next. I just want my phone to be usable again.
I just flashed MOAR Rom, and Wifi is still not working.
If you are using Safestrap, download the VRUCML1 kernel modules from the Safestrap thread and install those when you flash a custom TouchWiz rom.

Thanks for the reply but I managed to brick it and then I got it back to stock using Odin. Now Safestrap doesn't work and I just downloaded 4.4, I always screw up stuff like this. I only have 5 months left with my phone so It doesn't really matter. Perhaps there will be a way to root on 4.4 one day.

Sorry if this is obvious, but is there a thread somewhere with many of the official OTA roms or something? Mainly recent versions that are rooted so I wont lose root, and I can just flash? Thanks!
Just go to the Development section and pick a TW ROM on 4.3. They are prerooted.

Thanks for the suggestion! I should mention that I'm having issues with ROMs and I want to eliminate as many variables as possible by going stock, or as close to stock as possible, so that isn't working out for me...
If you want stock then just use Odin a 4.4.2 tar file. But if the 4.3 ROMs aren't working out its mostly user error. Are u clean flashing each ROM? Are you flashing gapps AFTER booting once on a fresh install. What errors or crashes do u get? Are you restoring apps using Titanium Backup? Make sure u don't restore any system apps. Just user apps.
