Does anyone else's Google Search take too long to loaf? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems to take around nine seconds total for the screen to turn white, the search box to come up, and the keyboard to pop in. I seem to have plenty of memory. What most affects the speed of the search box?

Mine loads just fine. Just a second or two. I see you are on a 4G so maybe its because your ROM is missing the binaries that were recently just released.

Running the stock rom on a 9020t and I noticed straight away that loading up voice search does lag. Not as long as the op stated but there is a lag.

Weird glitch on android!

I've been noticing this recently, when I'm in an application and go to another one that background from the past app is still there even tho I'm in another app!, anyone have any idea of this, this is really weird.

That's strange. I never use a task killer and I've never seen anything like that before.
What's even wrong? You're hearing background music from a different app?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
seems to me like the OP is saying that the previous app can be seen through the current app - like the newly opened app is semi-transparent or something...
Anyway, that's how I read it, and that is weird, and no you shouldn't have to use a task killer to fix something like that - that's a proper bug.

Now that's a problem, if yu don't see it I shouldn't have to see it either. Ill get in contact with tmo for a replacement, cuz I've been thru 3 already and I never notice this on the other G2s either so it has to be the phone.....

I had a weird YouTube bug with my MT4G running CM7 RC2. I paused a video and turned the screen off to go do something for a few minutes, and when I went back to the video, it froze and I had to force-close youtube to get any sort of control.
But the audio from the video was still going! I had to reboot to stop it--even opening another video in youtube just made two audios playing at once LOL.

Lmao that's even weirder, and btw I just notice that I had just rebooted my phone and I opened up the xda app first thing and notice my backgroud wallpaper in the back ground with the enotification bar and everything, I doubt this is due to multi tasking, now I'm really concern with this.

[Q]Scrolling question

I flashed the infused 2.0.2 rom and maybe its a feature but when scrolling down web pages (web pages only), I can't scroll as far as I could with one swipe up or down on stock. It's not lagging or anything. I can't describe it that well but yeah. Can this be readjusted through a setting or something?

Screen capture with gingerbread?

I'm running the de bloated ep4d that was recently released. I need to take a screen capture for work right now. I tried searching the forum but the xda app search is a bit limited and I need this within the next hour if possible. Is there a quick method to take screen captures on my rooted phone? Appreciate all your help, really. I'm out in the field and can't reach a desktop or laptop anytime soon.

On the new OTA build I can't manage to screen capture the notification shade anymore because the stupid animation makes the phone lag and it doesn't cap before the shade has gone away. This is a problem when using the stock capture method. (Sorry for hijacking your thread but this is a relevant issue depending on what you are trying to screen cap.)

Battery life draining fast

Try calibrating your battery.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
There is a rogue app in your drawer. download watchlist app, it will keep track on other apps which are hogging your system.
Battery calibration won't and doesn't do anything useful... its more then likely an app or something running constantly. What's your screen on times? Post a screenshot of your battery usage.

I'm on 2.3.4 with practically all the bloat and more removed, holy hell battery is terrible for me... if testing to find rouge apps doesn't work I'm gonna factory reset and just not install any thing. Today I didn't hardly use my phone (no work) sat around on the computer, paid some bills watched some movies and TV, sent two text messages and read 3 emails battery was at 65% after 3 ½ hours... 3 of which was idle time and screen off. Never had it so bad before.

Anytime. That's usually the first thing I do when I install a rom based on lg stock. That app runs constantly eating data and ram. You will usually gain almost 1mb of open ram by just deleting it.

I pretty much don't play games and don't stream music or anything like large data usage. I call text browse and read articles and such, XDA and Facebook is about it for other usage though, light in most eyes, and I under-clock the phone to 700's usually.

Killing apps is it worth it??

I have a bad habit of frequently clearing all apps from my recents
I somewhere read that it's not good (can't remember where)
So is it worth killing apps frequently ?? Does this effect battery life too??
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hi,
I would say you "kill" multitasking...
...which is actually not good, because opening an app that is already in the phones RAM loads much faster plus it doesn't consume that much battery juice
Just leave em. Don't be obsessed with closing stuff all the time
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Apps running in your multi tasking window still drain some battery. Even Google suggests closing them if you're not using them, to extend battery life.
Launching apps doesn't doesn't spike my current widget readings so I don't think much battery is used there. I've noticed rebooting the phone does cause huge spikes though so try and only do that while plugged in.

This topic has been debated again and again. It makes no tangible difference in battery life. If you want to swipe your apps, go ahead and swipe them. You will never see a difference in battery. And that's because there isn't one.
I notice that if I don't reboot my N5 for a long time, my available RAM goes down to <150mb regardless of what I close. Does it sound like I have a bad app?

Usually its best to just keep pressing the back button repeatedly to exit an app and let it be in the recents. I read that just swiping the app off the Recent doesn't completely exit the app and there's still some background process that will be running for some time.
