Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/58erw44hgy6bl7o/media_profiles.xml
If you force close in camera try this ([email protected]): http://db.tt/KhpiPwFM
TEST VIDEO: http://youtu.be/Cauwj9mHISA

Did you test this? I think the bitrate is somewhat high and you need a rather good memory card to support such high bitrates especially for [email protected]/40mbps

Maybe sombody have an idea to get 720P on Defy
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...torola.com/message/307129+&cd=6&hl=de&ct=clnk
from BizzaBoy @ supportforums.motorola.com
"The DEFY camera modules is able to do 720p. It's a MT9P012 according to the boot log.
Looking at the kernel sources on opensource.motorola.com (drivers/media/video/mt9p012.c), there is a FRAME_1296_30FPS mode supported which reads in a 1296x972 frame that would be cropped down to 1280x720. From the code it appears that those smaller modes are achieved by skipping pixels. This also explains why there is no 720x480 mode, just a 648x486 internal mode.
Ok, next looking at TI's OMAP3 literature, it says that it can do up to 720p HD.
So at the end of the day the DEFY *should* do 720p, and a 2.2 update *might* enable that.
I personally would be extatic to have 720p. The DEFY is really mindblowing as a allround device, where I can record videos on our weekly ski-trips, but 640x480 @30fps really, really sucks. 640x480 @60fps would be great, or 720p @30fps. Overall the camera/camcorder interface needs some substantial work. You cannot switch to a explicitie white balance (only auto), which is a pain if you record video where the lighting changes and the camera software tries to readjust the white balance. The other thing that drives me nuts is that you cannot adjust the image quality settings for the jpeg encode. "
humm i'll check it too

I found this in china 2.2 Rom.
/etc/cameraCalDef5M.bin and /etc/cameraCalDef8M.bin
Did Defy maybe have 8 MP Camera like Milestone XT720?
I renamed ...CalDef8M to CalDef5M and replaced the original 5M.bin
Camera is a bit faster.
I will search for a better camera app.

Resolution is not bigger in default Camera.App But in my opinion cam is a bit faster.
I've taken 2 photo before and after renaming file, and i get the same photo, with same specification and resolution.
I've also tried with Pro Zoom Camera 5X and with Vignette, i get the same picture...
So i think we have "only" 5Mo in hardware...
Ok, it a 5MP Cam but 720p should possible.
Have a look to this page. (only google cache)

Good, there is still a chance we could get 720p camcorder at some point, since both 3630-800 and MT9P012 are capable of it.
wow seems amazing
Have you get it work?

Have no time more testing this.
Our Camera component can't take pictures biggers than 5M, in the other thread that tal about 720p we can found the URL of datasheet component. Here I will try to paste it (remmember, buy a beer to BizzaBoy! )

As I wrote , Acer Liquid use the same camera (MT9P012).
But no 720p for liquid but I think Liquid Steam has same camera with 720p support.
Hope this one help..
Thank you for working for us
what's next? i mean, to get VGA @ 120FPS or HD working?
I think must be easy modify the Android Kernel to accept the 120FPS but will be more complicated hack the Camera.apk to add this feature.
I would start to hack for HD Video. Maybe will be complicated for the Kernel but easaly for the application.
i will donate, if this works good
Thanks for your job master!!! i love you!!!!!!!

Ok. I tested extensively this 720p patch with lgcamera pro. The best of the best is video settings at 1280x720 is with MPEG4 as its encoder, 5Mbit and 30fps ticked as well. Video recording and playback is very smooth no lagging at all. Although video playback at 24fps but it's awesomely working smooth.

Hi,
Will there be any plans to make this mod work with CM7 and/or MIUI?
Thank you for your work.
did i see it? 720p recording with green lens?
Sorry @fabianowerner green lens records WVGA.
Hey... I'm using stock Gingerbread 2.3.3, Android version 2.3.3,BuildNumber: 4.5.1_112.
Will it work??
Also I'm using the lgcamera pro too if this matter..
Thanks!!!
Hi Walter!
Im using Gingerbread Rom 4.5.1-134 with the GreenBreadMod and i get "record failed" message when trying to record video.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Andy
Is there any video sample ? h.264 +30FPS sounds nice
wow!!! for me rec/play in 720p is extremely important!
although i have to admit, it is less that i desperately need those features but 720p in [email protected] once and for all proves that the defy really has a omap3630 with iva 2.2 installed which just got crippled on the softwareside (remember the discussion???)! GREAT WORK!!!
sadly i am a quite satisfied miui user and i know that this mod is kernel dependend, so i won't be able to use it right now
thats why i have some questions:
1. could you please post a sample of 720p recording??? thanks
2. has the 720p-playback improved (-> lagging in high profile vids)since antibytes mod for froyo?
3. and of course: WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO DO THE MODIFICATION ON LIBS FROM FROYO KERNEL???? lets say for 3.4.2.177-03/05 or cee 179
THANKS A LOT!!!
from 451-134 i've flashed greenbread patch for green lens and this zip, but from lg camera dont have 720p recording!(ive green lens)

Ok.. Firstly, my rom is rooted stock gingerbread 2.3.3. With installed 2nd-init ver1.8 running.
Just flashed the zip file via 2nd-init custom recovery. Follow with installing lgcamera-pro ver5.87..

[DEV] media_profiles.xml modding (improve picture&video quality)

Hi,all .
I'm trying to modding media_profiles.xml for desire s because this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065992
(some time i use phone cam to record my piano so sound quality is important )
This is what i change from original file
Main Cam / Front Cam
Audio
- Change Audio Codec from amrnb to aac (for high quality)
- 2 channel(stereo)
- Increase Bit Rate to 128kbps and SampleRate to 44.1k
Image
- Change Image Encoding Quality to 100/95/90
Video
- Change height&width to match 720p size and bit rate to 17000000 for main cam
- Change height&width to match VGA size and bit rate 4000000 for front cam
Testing with VoidU S 1.1a it work perfectly audio in video improve a lot! and i can use stereo recordring now (stock kernel)
Feel free to test but! Don't forgot to backup original before use adb to push file to /system/etc
**seem to be not working with UnityV9 (Stereo Recording) but on stock kernal it work perfrectly!**
How strange, I was just modding this file this morning.
I was able to successfully mod the file too and improve audio quality in camera recordings, but what I actually want to do was improve the sound quality when using the stock voice recorder. Any ideas?
I just test with Unity Kernel. It seem like unity doesn't support Stereo Recording! :/
Is this fix possible to apply also on MIUI rom?
Can you not increase image quality from this file?

This is a hack to improve camera functionality.

Try Lgcamera for better front cam video and way better audio, also for 4.1+ roms

You can choose your audio bitrate and this improves a lot your audio, also the video quality improves too a lot I choose 20mbits bitrate(don't know if I can choose more with class 10 card)and the result looks almost hd!Unfortunately the picture quality of the front camera remains the same .maybe someone could do a fix? You can try it also with your custom non ICS roms I think it's a great app
