HELP! Weird CWM situation - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hey guys. Not new to rooting or flashing anything. But I have a strange situation. And help would be really appreciated.
I have a a MT4GS running Virtuous Inquisition senseless ICS ROM. I was going to switch over to Virtuous Infinity, to see what Sense 4 is about.
Downloaded the rom, put it on my SD card. Booted into CWM 5.0.2.7 (latest), made a backup, no error. Cleared /cache, no error. dalvik, no error. Factory reset, no error.
Then I tried to flash the ROM, which is where things got weird. First, I keep getting aborted installations with error "Status 1". Since I got that error the first time, every time I go into CWM, I get errors saying /cache/log can't mount or open. cache/last_log can't mount or open...
Rebooting just gets me stuck at the MyTouch logo.
Restoring from backup, CWM tells me my backup has no cache.img, system.img, data.img, and some other .img...so my backup got broken somehow.
I just am at a complete loss at to what the hell happened. Can anyone maybe provide something I can start on to try and get this working?
EDIT 1: For ****s and giggles, i tried flashing one more time. It worked. Weird. Flashed the corresponding boot.img file, no error there.
Now I am in a boot loop.

I am S-On. Which is why I went ahead and flashed the boot.img from inside the ROM's .zip file.

This is probably not the issue BUT.......it's very easy to accidently "reboot recovery" instead of going back to the main menu to "reboot system". If that's what you did, CWM 5.0.2.7 is notorious for giving you a boot loop. Other than that.....I'm Clueless.

The recovery wasn't the issue. I tried about 4 different CWM versions. They all did the same thing. I remember when I flashing Virtuous Inquisition, I never got any /cache/ errors. But when I tried it this time, (on the same recovery as last ROM), I started getting the errors. And the ROM wouldn't boot.
Idk. I'm lost. I can't even get fastboot to load the PG59IMG.zip file. It finds it, loads it, then checks it. Then nothing, back to fastboot main screen.
This is getting ridiculous.

You didn't by any chance use the new CWM 6 touchscreen version somewhere along the way did you?

I did flash it once, but I reverted back to 5.0.2.7 because I didn't want to use an experimental build of a recovery when I decided to flash ROMs.
I have only -flashed- on 5.0.2.7.
Gonna try the HTC Unbricking Project. If that doesn't work, I guess I have a paperweight. :/

Did you run ANY of the processes on CWM 6? It sounds like you must have and if you did you may have the 6th bricked device that it's produced. Most of those errors you're getting are the same as those of us that had to replace our MT4Gs.

Dang! Then it must corrupt partitions right from the initial install....although that seems almost impossible to me. Mine would at LEAST start loading the fastboot image. It wouldn't finish though. It would always hang @ the user data installation process and just stop dead.
How long have you had your DoubleShot and who has your cell service?

Well, this is actually a replacement. My first I had for about 5 months, then it crapped out on me. Sent it into t-mobile, they told me it was water damaged (It wasn't), wouldn't let me dispute the claim. Charged me $190, replaced it. Had this one for maybe 3.5 weeks now...
God I hate cell phones. Luckily there's a t-mobile store right down the road. Should I just take it in and see if I can get a (2nd) replacement?

....and you have run thru jonnycat's method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508406

I HATE to tell you yes since no one with more experience than me has weighed in but that's what I'm thinking. It IS still running the TMobile splash & animation isn't it?
If so.....I would relock the bootloader and scoot down there ASAP if I were you.

If you're suggesting the PG59IMG.zip method. It doesn't work. Upon booting into fastboot, it appears that my phone's bootloader became locked somehow. And you can't flash the PG59IMG file locked/s-on.
I really feel like reading A Series of Unfortunate Events right now. :/

If your bootloader is relocked and your splash & animations are TMobile's and it will go no further, BELIEVE me......TMobile won't give you ANY crap. But DO make sure you're taking it to a Main Corporate store and not just a branch office.
When I did, they just checked the water dot....did a couple more battery pulls....didn't EVEN KNOW to check HBoot for S-Off and I had a new one in the mail in 3 days. I only had to pay for shipping. (If that dot is still white.....don't take any crap from them about water damage & make a scene with customers around and demand the manager while you do).
Don't hate cell phones, my friend. It's just part of the learning process and you have learned (just like I have) to not test any alpha or beta system utilities. You can run all the beta ROMs that you want with impunity.

This is what my phone goes to every time it boots now. It was the T-Mobile MyTouch logo for like 1 second, then this. Every time.
I have a feeling they won't give me a replacement....unless I make up a story like how I tried to OTA and when I rebooted, this happened.

MAN! It sure looks to me like you are Good to GO! Completely S-On Radio Lock....proper bootloader...everything. And bootloader won't pick up the stock image? (Still odd to me) Nevertheless.....I don't think you'll have ANY problems. I think you just had a bad experience with TMo. Is there another bigger store in your town you could take it to this time? Sounds like you may have just been dealing with a know-nothing AHOLE before.
BTW......why NOT tell them that an OTA screwed it up? Other people have done that and come out smelling like a Rose. And beside......they HAVE screwed YOU over when they shouldn't have! An eye for an eye....KWIM?

This is why I'm still on v4.0.0.9

Nope. I can however use my old Unlock_token.bin to get it to the bootloader unlock screen. But once I het "yes" to unlock the bootloader, it just freezes until I pull the battery,

Help! I think my Mytouch 4G is bricked!!!
i have seen a LOT of these threads lately, and this thread is made to hopefully be able solve some of your problems.
most people think that a brick means "can't get into android system, phone is dead beyond repair." most of the time, this is NOT true.
Disclaimer: Please make sure you know what you are doing before proceeding. if your device wasn't bricked before but you somehow screwed it up, i will not be responsible. YOU are responsible for whatever happens to your device. i am just here to give you a few tips, and to help you out. once again, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING BEFORE DOING IT!
Needed Things:
-computer
-android SDK, ADB. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO INSTALL AND LEARN TO USE ADB, IT COULD SAVE YOUR DEVICE BIG TIME. we have plenty of guides on how to use adb, please search them up and READ THROUGH THEM.
-a Mytouch 4G, or HTC Panache
-USB cable
-SDcard (doesn't matter what size)
ask and answer these two questions to yourself:
1) can you enter bootloader?
2) can you enter recovery?
if you've answered yes to any one of them, then chances are, you are still saved.
Note: if you can't enter either one of those, and your device doesn't show any signs of life, then don't bother reading on, you are truly bricked.
Notice: When you try flashing the PD15IMG.zip in bootloader, make sure the phone is NOT connected to the computer.
For S-On users:
Q: help! my phone is stuck on the Mytouch logo screen!
A: pull the battery, and see if you can get into the bootloader using volume down+power buttons
if you can get into the bootloader:
1) see if you can wipe data/do a factory reset in bootloader.
2) flash the stock Glacier PD15IMG.zip file choose from either
Android 2.2.1 OR Android 2.3.4
rename both files to PD15IMG.zip if not already.
-put both files in the ROOT of your SDcard, reboot into bootloader/hboot, and follow the onscreen instructions
note: if you are still unclear on what to do, read the "HOW TO RESTORE TO STOCK" section
Q: bootloader is giving me Fail-PU errors when trying to update
A: refer to the eMMC section
For S-Off Rooted users:
rooted S-Off devices are a bit more complicated.
Q: help! i can't get into the android system, phone stuck on Mytouch logo!
A: like for S-On users, see if you can get into either the bootloader, but also the recovery (usually clockworkmod).
if you can get into either of those, wipe data/factory reset, and reboot.
Q: bootloader factory reset, still stuck on Mytouch screen
A: well, if you have clockworkmod recovery (or 4EXT recovery) get into the recovery, wipe all user data/cache/dalvik cache and try reflashing a backup, or flash a new rom.
Q: reflashing didn't work, clockworkmod is giving me errors about mounting something.
A: new way! try to clear cache and dalvik in recovery, somtimes that works. thanks to urmothersluvr for reminding me.
A: there are two things that cause this. both have VERY similar symptoms. the first is because of the failed eMMC chip (refer to eMMC chip section), and the second is because the recovery got messed up, probably because you've been switching between a lot of EXT3 and EXT4 roms. if this is the case, just download the PD15IMG.zip (Android 2.2.1) file (IT WILL RETURN YOU TO STOCK) and start over again. OR you can reflash the recovery through adb (MUST HAVE ENG HBOOT 0.85.2007). thanks to Nicgraner for reminding me! if bootloader gives Fail-PU errors, refer to eMMC section.
HOW TO RESTORE TO STOCK
here are clear instructions on how to flash to stock using the PD15IMG.zip file:
1) download the PD15IMG.zip file:
Android 2.2.1 Android 2.3.4
2) rename the file to PD15IMG.zip if not already
3) place the file in the root of your SDcard, meaning not in any folders
4) power off your device, and reboot into hboot/bootloader by press and holding power + volume down buttons
5) hboot/bootloader should recognize the file, and ask if you want to update
6) select "yes", and wait for the update to finish
*Selections are made with the volume buttons, and hit the power button to select*
7) when the update is finished, hit reboot
8) wait for the device to boot up (may take awhile, first time boot only)
9) congrats, you are now back to stock Mytouch 4G, either 2.2.1, or 2.3.4

if you think you have a failed eMMC...
many things can cause the eMMC to die. if you suspect that your eMMC chip has died, please check your eMMC serial using this guide here using adb (for rooted users only, since you must be in recovery for the command to work).
symptoms of failed eMMC:
-massive lagging all of the sudden in android system
-phone suddenly shut down, and you can't turn it on, no matter what you do (if this happens, then yes, you're bricked)
-recovery showing errors about not being able to mount things
-BOOTLOADER SHOWING FAIL-PU WHEN TRYING TO RESTORE BACK TO STOCK USING PD15IMG.ZIP, IF THIS HAPPENS, THEN YES, THAT MEANS YOU ARE TRULY BRICKED. FAIL-PU MEANS FAILED PARTITION UPDATE, MEANING THAT YOU CANNOT WRITE TO THE PHONE/EMMC CHIP ANYMORE.

Ok, so my chip has died and i can't turn my phone on. can i send it in to t-mobile to replace it?
A: yes! BUT YOU MUST STILL HAVE YOUR WARRANTY WITH T-MOBILE. if you are S-On, you should have absolutely NO problems replacing at all. if you are S-Off, you might encounter some minor problems, but replacing should still be ok. what i did was play dumb with them, and they just sent me a new one. my old one died of bad eMMC, it was rooted, S-off and everything, even the splash screen said "rooted HTC Glacier" on it.
hopefully, this guide has helped you understand more of what has just happened to your beloved Glacier (MT4G).
if i forgot anything, or if you have anything to add to this, PLEASE LET ME KNOW
if i have helped, please hit thanks!
for the corrupted recovery you don't necessarily need to flash pd15img..you could boot into bootloader then fastboot and reflash the recovery img of your choice. Although some may not know how to.. just a thought
EDIT: Forgot to explain why lol, flashing pd15img will make you lose root whereas just pushing the new recovery will not!
Don't mean to be trollin, just some advice haha

EDIT: OP updated, thanks urmothersluvr!
OP updated with instructions on how to return to stock using the PD15IMG.zip file.... if you have any suggestions, PM me
I'm trying to load the pd15img.zip. I have a completely stock phone and for some reason it got stuck on the bootup screen so I'm trying to flash it to fix it.
However after I enter the bootloader and it finds the file, loads it and then checks it, it just returns to the bootloader screen. It never asks me to flash it.
Does anyone have a solution??

is your phone connected to the computer? just wondering.
also, might be a bad download, try downloading again.....
It is not connected to the PC when flashing. I'll try redownloading the IMG. I get a "Wrong or bad image" thing in Hboot. Formatted SD card to fat 32 and tried a different card. This is a weird issue. I warrantied out the phone but TMO sent me a replacement with the washed out screen so I'd love to fix this.
Mine isn't connected to the computer. I get no sort of error. I'll redownload the image in a bit and report back. Thanks!
thanks a lot

Problems
I bought a MyTouch 4G from Craigslist today (for $ 80, it has the superior screen, is cosmetically a 9.5/10 and it came with all accessories) and it is stuck at the MyTouch 4G screen. One of the local phone places told the seller that the phone needed to be flashed which I tried to do. I downloaded the file in this thread for 2.3.4, put it on the freshly FAT32 formatted MicroSD card, I booted into the bootloader, it found the PD15IMG.zip file, it loaded and checked it and went into the screen with the two green arrows and the one green arrow pointing downwards. Then every time in the middle of it, the phone turns itself off (battery is fully charged). It never asked if I wanted to update either. What could be the problem?

...lol i'm starting to think the link to the 2.3.4 PD15IMG.zip is wrong..
sorry guys if it is...
hmm have you tried to use the 2.2.1 instead?
I bought two MyTouch 4G's from the same seller (a couple) and his phone works fine, only hers is corky LOL. Both HBOOT screens are identical too, I checked his software version and it is the latest one (2.32.531.1), so I assume that hers is the same, it also shows the same date, July 15 2011 and the same radio 26.13.04.19_M in HBOOT. Maybe there is no PD15IMG.zip file for this latest updated ROM yet? After trying both different PD15IMG.zip files (2.3.4 and 2.2.1), I've been getting the "main version is older" errors on both. No Fail-PU though, so that makes me hopeful I'm thinking that she updated to the latest version and somehow it got corrupted, that is why the phone is stuck at the MyTouch 4G loading screen and won't go any further.
Update: I'm up and running again !! I found a PD15IMG.zip file on the t-mobile support website that worked specifically for the latest 2.32.531.1 update !! Here is the download link (I've uploaded it to megaupload): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X1EAIPBJ

[How To] Flash ICS ROMs with S-ON Unlocked

This only really applies to those with S-ON Unlocked, HBOOT 1.45.0013. Once we figure out how to get S-OFF on all phones, this guide will become unneeded! In the meantime, this is here for those of us that are S-ON but want to play with ICS.
THIS TUTORIAL ALSO APPLIES TO ANY CUSTOM ROMS THAT REQUIRE A CUSTOM KERNEL.
If you're S-ON LOCKED, go HERE and UNLOCK your phone!
I'm assuming you have
Fastboot set up as a PATH, or copied to the folder you are extracting boot.img to
HTC Drivers installed
Clockwork Recovery
1.) Grab your ROM of choice.
2.) Open up your ROM in 7zip or another file compression program.
3.) Extract the "boot.img" file that's inside to a folder.
4.) Open the command prompt and go to the folder you extracted the "boot.img" file too.

"cd" in the command prompt stands for "change directory", so you will need to type that before the path to where your boot.img file is located.
5.) Reboot your phone into fastboot mode. To do this, turn off your phone by holding down the "Volume down" and "Power" buttons until the fastboot screen arrives. There should be three Androids on skateboards on the bottom.
6.) Press the power button once on the "fastboot" option. Your phone should now connect to the computer and it should say "fastboot usb" on your phone.
7.) In the command prompt, type the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
8.) Assuming you've done everything properly, this will overwrite the existing kernel on your phone with the kernel that comes with your ROM.
9.) Now, reboot your phone into Recovery. At this point, flash your ROM by flashing the zip file.
10.) Reboot and enjoy your new ROM!
Thanks to Blue6IX for telling me how to do this and to yogi2010 for making me realize I forgot to tell people to actually flash the ROM itself. Figured I'd make a guide for those that didn't know about it since it's probably hidden somewhere underneath pages and pages of comments on other ROMs.
probably worth stickying for a while till we get to know how to downgrade to an s-offable state?
Amazing work guys.
I'm also lucky the phone I purchased off Craigslist was root able.

I can confirm this does indeed work as advertised. I'm S-On Unlocked with latest HBOOT, installed pyr-o-ice 1.1.1 yesterday, its running as it should.

Will this method work for all of the ROMs we have here for the mt4gs? One I have been looking at is Bulletproof. If I use the same technique you've explained, will I get the same end result?
Just got a MT4GS a couple days ago. It was updated to 1.45.0013. I read up to see that it couldn't be S-OFF'd or rooted due to locked bootloader..."oh crap!". Searched more and ran into this... "hells yeah!" Worked like a charm! Now running Pyr-o-ice desensed...awesome stuff! Thanks a lot!

All of the ICS roms (and all of the custom GB roms as far as i know) are rooted here, and include the 'su' binary and superuser apk. That's what counts, so short answer:
yes

We'll nail it eventually. It's a tough nut to crack, but at least along the way we found a temporary fix.
We can now go back to S-ON from S-OFF, and the standard response to how to do that for the longest time was 'it's not possible'. Anything is possible with the right amount of effort invested. I am sure we'll come up with some more goodies along the way...some are brewing even now.
I've made S-ON to S-OFF my life's work until it's done, and have mostly given up on everything else I was working on to achieve that end.
There are a few other devs who have been spending a lot of time on this as well, and we are working together and unraveling the issue one layer at a time.
We'll get it, but it's the toughest nut to crack - the manufacturer is doing whatever they can to prevent us from being able to do so...there is a specific effort to block us from doing it that must be overcome.
Meantime, since we don't have a real RUU for this phone on any software version, the search for one came back with the leaked copy of the OTA as an official signed HTC package. ( To me it seemed like a consolation prize after the exhausting search for an RUU...didn't get one, but got at least this )
I'm glad someone went ahead and made a guide for people to use it to at least get unlocked since HTC broke the OTA they actually pushed over-the-air, this package is what it was supposed to be.
Hang in there, we'll get all you guys S-OFFed as soon as we can!
Y'all are doing a kickass job man. I'm sure once this phone is all the way opened up and dev see that, it will gain more publicity. I unlocked my phone with the htcdev.com, but haven't loaded up a rom yet. All I've really done is uninstalled a few bloatware apps, but can't wait until I can have total access to everything and see what this badboy has to offer.

ok.. noob question, can I flash boot after flashing custom rom?
First off: Thanks are due across the board, as well as to the man who made the .exe Noob-proof app it helped a little bit and worked great
Second: Okay.. I recieved a warranty replacement..new HBoot. following this guide I did all required.
UPON using fastboot command to boot the boot.img it reboots and starts to boot up PyroIce 1.1.2..... which you say isnt right since i need to flash the ROM again in Recovery..
If i Do that it wont boot again and hangs on the MT4GS splash screen, i think it is actually due to the fact that i also flash the adreno drivers patch, but i am not going to try and tinker with it.
bottom line, working... thanks so much guys

I've seen that boot.img is where the kernels are, and I've seen that to flash an ICS ROM in that thread that in order to flash an ICS ROM on a MT4GS you need to flash a kernel after the ROM, in the form of a boot.img.
So I'll say, hesitantly, "yes".
Unless, of course, you meant something else. That, or, I misunderstood something somewhere...

I don't know much about the whole ROM thing and Android in general. I come from G1 land, where everything was easy . You just flash the ROM and you're done. However, if I understand correctly, here you just flash the ROM you want (ICS whatever) and then the kernel (boot). Did I miss something along the way?
I would think that the kernel should be no different conceptually than the one in Linux (or Windows, or OS-X, or...). It's the interface between the software packages ("Android", plus the apks, framework, all that) and the hardware. So really, I don't see why any ROM shouldn't work as long as your kernel has everything the ROM needs to interface with the hardware and the framework has everything the ROM needs to interface with the software (or the software with the kernel). Do I understand correctly?
[EDIT]
I just reread that... you booted the hboot via fastboot instead of writing it to the phone first... which I guess is smarter than what I did -- cus if it won't work at least you don't brick it that way. Do you have a link to the howto for that? I'm sure it's simple and easy, I just have never done it...
[/EDIT]

[Q] Completely Boned - Solved: Was not SuperCID

So I can't figure out how to fix this, and have a completely useless phone at the moment, unfortunately.
I wanted to install Virtuous Inquisition. I was coming from ARHD 4.1.10 Gingerbread. This is the process I followed:
1. Downloaded Firmware and ROM from website.
2. Loaded both onto SDCard
3. Rebooted into recovery, PG58IMG did it's work.
4. Formatted / Wiped all Data
5. Installed Virtuous Inquisition
At this point I was thrown into a continuous boot loop. Read up on the forums, apparently Virtuous is only tested for CWM.
Tried installing CWM - downloaded the zip, renamed it PG58IMG.zip, tossed it onto the phone, gets stuck at "Parsing," and fails.
Tried reinstalling firmware again - Creates error "Wrong CID"
Tried installing CWM from the 1st post of the Sensation Rooting Thread, said "Wrong Version."
Completely confused as to how to fix my phone now.
Please, PLEASE help.
Thanks XDA.
Delete all pg58img.zip from SD card, try to reboot and post result.
Leaving the firmware zip in SD root after update causes boot loops.

Unfortunately I still get the boot loops -
I get the Virtuous Boot Animation, then it just kills itself.
OK does fastboot work?

Try the virtuous 2.23 thread. It's a 2.3.4 Rom but it comes with its own firmware. See if that boots up before trying anything else.

Unfortunately I'm rather unfamiliar with this term - if you mean can I get into the bootloader, yes, and I can get into 4EXT.
I vaguely remember when rooting my phone that I had to connect it to the computer to do some adb things, but have not tried / done that since.
Currently I have a spare SDCard, and am trying the entire process over real quick, then going to try TC's idea.
Update: Loading the Firmware again still gave me the "CID Incorrect!" error in the bootloader.

First and foremost, did you do a nandroid backup before you did any of this? If so just revert back.
Next, in step 3, you said you booted into recovery to flash the PG58IMG. You plain can't do that. All firmware updates are done through the bootloader not recovery.
And you also mentioned, wrong CID. Do you recall ever doing a superCID on your phone? If not, read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 to get the correct firmware. IF you go there for the firmware (I suggest 3.24), you do not need superCID on your phone.
GL
Sorry, wrong wording, I did originally do the PG58IMG through Bootloader.
Quite, *quite* stupidly, I only did a Titanium backup, not a nandroid backup.
I have not done SuperCID on my phone.
Working on multiple options you guys have posted at the moment, y'all type too fast for my SDCard switching speeds!
As a side question at the moment, the Virtuous website mentioned that it has only tested through CWM. I was under the impression that 4EXT, while a different interface, behaved and functioned no differently than CWM. I may be wrong on this, but either way, I cannot get CWM to take control. It won't flash in the bootloader (gets stuck at "Parsing") and installing a Zip of it through 4EXT opens it, but does not make it the primary Recovery method
Update: The T-Mobile specific firmware is successfully installing at the moment. Will remind self to SuperCID ASAP :/
While talking earlier about nandroid backups, I was curious - I thought nandroid only backed up certain things, IE: Not the firmware. Am I incorrect?
Update 2: The Virtuous Boot animation has gotten far enough for the V to begin pulsing. It has never gotten this far. I think it may actually be going through the "initial" boot up sequence. May take a few minutes.

I use 4ext for my recovery and works just as well. Just use the firmware in that thread I mentioned. That thread is a great one to read up on. Especially for people who are new to CID terminologies.

The only thing Nandroids do not back up are radios, SD stuff, kernels, firmware and RIL files. The RIL and Radio's are bundled in the rom itself. So essentially the nandroid backs up the ROM itself. Hope that makes sense.
Hope its working now? My thought was the problem was firmware you flashed originally not supported by your CID = boot loop.
SupwrCID def recommended!

Correct, you were on the right track. I have not done SuperCID, so when I installed the Firmware straight from Virtuous, it wasn't T-Mo specific.

HTC Thunderbolt Issues - Stuck at HTC Logo... Recovery not working, etc...

here is my issue.
2 weeks ago, i rooted my phone. all was well. flashed CWM Recovery 5.0.2.1 for my Thunderbolt. I made a backup just before i rooted so that in case ANYTHING went wrong, it would unroot me and fix any problems. So, here i am, backing up apps with Titanium Backup, and it backed up fine. The next thing i did was start to uninstall HTC Bloatware... I knew which ones were the ones i could remove, plus even if i removed the wrong one, i could just restore using my image backup. After removal, the phone instantly ran better. i had over 65% free memory space... This was all well and good, until i rebooted the phone. the instant i rebooted my phone, i was getting the flashing HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. i had done NOTHING to it to cause this. It would alternate from HTC splash to Thunderbolt animation.
So, knowing what was wrong, (UI not loading) i went to recover my image from CWM. that went fine. but things just got worse. After a successful recovery (according to CWM) i rebooted, but to my surprise, now its worse. its stuck at the HTC boot logo. ALL MANNER OF ROMS DO NOT WORK!!! recoveries, new OS, anything, all the same result. AT LEAST with the thunderstick full blown ROM, i can get back to the looping splash screen, but not any further. i DONT KNOW what is wrong but i am hoping one of you mad phone geniuses out there can get my phone working. i tried getting s-off with revolutionary, but it failed because the phone has to be booted up for it to work, and is something i obviously cant do at this point... relocking the phone made things worse too because i unlocked using the HTCdev method.
This is not a boot loop, as it doesnt loop. it just sits there. i have tried every available resource on this, and other sites. i must have read over 1,000 posts in the past week to try and gather what the devil happened to my phone... If its any help, i did accidently delete the settings storage APK file, but a restore should have fixed that. i want to lock up the phone to send it in for repair but i cant gain s-off to flash a new radio with the phone in its current state. i know how to do all if these things but the phone wont let me.

any RUU downloads that would have been available on multiupload.com are disabled and redirects to to "the internet vs., holywood". besides, as i said, any attempt to flash any rom no matter what it is fails. Well, technically it FLASHES ok, but doesnt actually work. as far as i know, the phone has 2 bootloaders in any given android phone. There is the primary HTC Bootloader (Hboot) and a secondary ROM UI Bootloader. (Android Boot) i think what has happened is that this part has become corrupted and i wanted to know how to access this and reformat that. supposedly you cant because its partitioned, and formatting the partitions would fix my issue. problem is that i have done all of this. to answer the second reply, yes, i can get the phone to be recognized in any mode as long as its fastboot, or recovery. Fastboot.exe works, and adb recognizes it in recovery as being IN recovery mode. unfortunately, with my device still locked, i cannot flash a new bootloader, which might solve my problem. this is not like any issue currently on XDA so far as i read, so this is why i created a new thread.
I am sure the Moderators will agree that my problem seems to be unique. After reading what seems to be hundreds of forums, i cannot solve the issue. While technically i am a newbie here, i am no stranger to modding phones. i have been at it for over 4 years now. THIS problem is absolutely a first for me. At least before i could restore using CWM, but even that failed. i checked my MD5 Sum for CWM backup and it checked out.
If someone can provide me a link to an ORIGINAL, unmodded, RUU that shipped with the phone, (PRE OTA 2012) that ISNT that stupid file-factory corrupted crap, i would be extremely indebted to that person. last time i used File-factory, it took THREE hours and the download was corrupted according to CWM. it refused to flash the phone even though Chrome said it completely downloaded (Error: Bad - Installation Aborted). There was no MD5 SUM to compare with so thats also another problem. i absolutely need that info to properly flash the phone. All the other ROMS i downloaded like TSGB and Lightning Rom technically flashed fine after a full wipe, but refused to go past their own "Open Mobile" splash screen.
So you see, i am at a loss with this phone, as all i did was reboot after rooting it, and nothing i did could have possibly caused this kind of failure...

ok. so the download finished fine so far as i know, but now CWM says ITS bad too. i will try again but i cant seem to flash any stock rom no matter if its OTA or pre-OTA from CWM. is there a way to flash a rom from the PC via adb or something?
Ohh! They're not flashed through CWM. They're flashed through hboot. Just rename it to PG05IMG.zip and put on SD card and boot to hboot it will ask you to flash
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
i will try that. previous hboot flashes always fail. it reads the archive, but never goes to "checking zip". it loads, checks, and then parses. i was successful with my evo shift earlier today, but that thing is ancient compared to my thunderbolt. With the Shift, i was able to gain root AND s-off with an old bootloader and i dont even need a new one.
i wanted to do the same with my bootloader in case another disaster hits because then i can flash whatever RUU i want with s-off. i will make sure the MD5 SUM matches before flashing. i forgot to do that anyhow.
Hboot flash failed. went through the motions of scanning it and it scanned the whole thing and then did nothing. it returned me to Boot Choices. Like Fastboot, recovery, etc... i tried twice. are you absolutely certain that is the shipping firmware that formats the entire phone, and not just updates it? i cant send it to verizon even though they know it was illegal to lock up my phone... Anyhow, i realy need this thing working and i have racked my brain enough to damage it already... lol. if it fails again i will try to redownload it. So far it loads and does NOT ask me to start the update. could be a version issue because it does not complain about anything else.

yes i have. i cannot do what it asks because it requires my phone to be functional to flash it using hboot. i need a signed copy of an older RUU. hboot doesnt do anything with it. its a valid copy, and i can see all the images and contents in windows and linux, but all i can get hboot to do is read it, then it doesnt ask me to update. i dont know what to do now.
I believe there is a ruu image without hoot download there.

ok well i will literally try ALL of the signed images. i will see if hboot will update it.
If your hboot is flashed with revolutionary I believe you have to unlock it before anything thing else can be flashed over that. Hboot or emmc could be corrupted as well.

How i fixed my tbolt stuck at the white HTC screen
I had this exact same problem literally yesterday (stuck at HTC screen) with some different cwm symptoms. I'm guessing my cwm was corrupted because the phone would reboot after about 30 seconds being in cwm, preventing me from flashing any roms. oh, and my backup image was corrupted as well. awesome. Flashing other CWMs did not fix the CWM problem.
Your problem sounds similar in the fact the CWM won't flash properly. You're trying to fix it by trying to flash a rom in HBOOT that isn't configured to be flashed that way. for example, i put the skyraider rom (named properly) in the root folder and tried to flash with HBOOT. it scanned and parsed but didn't give me the option to flash.
What I did was go here and grab a stock like image:
androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html
(won't let me make a link, i'm too new)
Go to the "Putting current stock firmware and s-on back onto the phone" section.
Download file 1 and flash it using HBOOT. I had to pull my sd card to get the file on there since cwm was crashing. Only flash that rom and nothing else. It flashed for me; if it doesn't flash for you then maybe your HBOOT is corrupted, and if so i don't know if you can fix it.
Once that flashes, reboot the phone and it should return to some level of functionality. You'll have S-off but no recovery or root tools installed. I ran revolutionary at this point, which recognized i already had S-off...then it offered to load CWM. This i did. in the meantime i deleted the unrooted image and put the image of the rom i wanted on the sd card. i then booted into recovery(it won't flash in HBOOT) and loaded that rom (skyraider zeus). That worked fine and the cwm didn't crash out.
I hope this works for you. I was getting ready to fire back up my OG droid before i did this.

I have read that post you provided probably 100 times its not working for me. flashing a custom rom actually got me past the HTC white screen and into a splash screen loop (Open Mobile). Also, I havent even been able to use the REV tool because my phone is not recognized by it without it being fully functional. you have to be fully booted up for the REV tool to use adb and start the process. thats why i need a signed copy of an older ROM with hboot flashing capability so i can fully restore my phone. i am 100% sure its a corruption issue, but i am out of clues as to how to actually get it to flash over while being s-on. with the evo shift it worked perfectly. it only took me 20 minutes to root, s-off and flash a custom rom. this phone has been a thorn in my side ever since i accepted that STUPID FOTA... i regret not knowing before hand what that OTA was and what it prevented. Now i know, too little / too late.
without s-off, i cant unlock hboot to flash it, and the fastboot mw whatever command failed also because its locked tight.

If your hboot is flashed with revolutionary I believe you have to unlock it before anything thing else can be flashed over that. Hboot or emmc could be corrupted as well.

thats what i thought. is there a way to change out that eMMC, or remove it to format it manually? i mean based on the description, its technically external which implies removable.
Yes you can format emmc I do not know if this will solve your problem. You wipe abd format through adb but need to see if it is being mounted first.

too bad i cannot repartition it to allow for more RAM instead of app space. i dont care about app space because i have a 32gb card... lol. i just want that phone to be faster than what it is currently once i finally get it running.

Please help installing CleanROM 4.5....Stuck in Recovery....

I had my phone rooted and unlocked and was also using CleanROM 4.1 before I decided today to change to CleanROM 4.5.
So, I downloaded the file and went to Recovery and flashed it (it did take very little time with flashing which I found rather strange.) When I rebooted, the phone was stuck at the HTC screen. I figured that I MIGHT have had CWM installed and I didn't know it (I can't be quite 100% sure of this as I thought I DID have TWRP since it was a touch recovery that I had.) Since I was able to boot back up to Fastboot, I said "Let me flash the TWRP recovery file and try again".....Well, I did that and according to the Command Prompt it was successful (showed sending, writing, finished etc....) Once finished, I rebooted back and all I see now is the TeamWin logo in Recovery and THAT'S IT. It won't give me any menu options. If I let it sit, it will reboot back to the HTC screen.
What are my options right now? Is there a specific file I can flash through Fastboot that will allow me to proceed?
I would appreciate the help and I'll be sure to come back and let you know how successful I was. :fingers-crossed:
****BTW, I want to point out that my phone has had this strange message everytime it reboots (over the past few months since unlocked) stating: "This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission....etc..." What does that mean? I don't like that message to appear everytime I reboot my phone. Thanks again!
reflash
Try flashing the boot.IMG from the the zipped ROM you were trying to flash to boot partition through the bootloader (cmd in windows: fastboot flash boot boot.img[enter] after you put The boot.img in the same folder as the adb & cd to that folder) and flash cwm for recovery, then you can reflash twrp

In the future I suggest factory wipe even if going from CR to CR. Also, make sure to check the MD5 once you move the file on to your storage.

I did do the factory wipe.
By the way, I tried what I was told to do and nothing happened. It successfully flashes the boot image and recovery, but when it tries to boot into the recovery, it just freezes in the recovery with the word TEAMWIN and a blue background....No menu or options.... I did try several different ways by downloading and installing several versions of the CWM and TWRP, but no success. Any other suggestions? Will I be stuck with this piece of brick now? Please help.

^That right there is normal by the way and will always be there.
Looks like it's time for you to relock your bootloader (don't worry you can unlock it again), download an RUU, and try again.

Ughh! Do you know if I will lose any documents/pictures that are in my USB storage? Which RUU do you think is the best in my case? Thanks!

You will lose the contents of your SD card, which is why you should back that up before flashing. Since you were on CR 4.1, I would go with the 1.85 RUU. If you use 2.20, you will add an extra step or two in when it comes to flashing ROMs. But hey, your phone should work again!

I know, silly me. Usually I backup the data and everything goes well and when I don't, there goes my luck! I really appreciate the suggestion.
One quick question, if in the future I need to have the phone sent in for warranty, is this the same procedure I need to follow? Relock and flash an RUU? Will they not know it had been unlocked before?

Exact same procedure, but yes they will know. The giant RELOCKED gives it away lol.

But only if they reboot and look, which from what I've seen here, they never seem to do.

I took my One X back to Best Buy to swap it out just before the return policy expired because my gf dropped it and put a small dent in the casing and I didn't even bother to relock or even RUU my device. I said I had a software issue and couldn't get the OTA. They turned it on and played with it and it had a custom boot animation and a ROM on it lol. They also couldn't get the OTA so they approved the return.

it doesn't say RELOCKED when you run an RUU. It gets rid of everything like Tampered and Unlocked and returns the phone to LOCKED. like it came

hahaha, thank god for company cutbacks sometimes... it makes the employees not give a ****. and rightfully so too!!
the fact that companies cut back to make a few more billion dollars makes me sick anyways. but this is not the place for this conversation. carry-on

You should probably double check that. Anybody with an AT&T One X had to have SuperCID to unlock their bootloader so that wouldn't matter. I have unlocked two AT&T One Xs and run the 1.85 RUU on both (one of them a couple times) and I have run the 2.20 RUU on one. every time it says RELOCKED.
Mine did this to when going to 4.5.
I did the following to get back into Recovery.
Use fastboot to flash the boot.img from the cleanrom 4.5 zip.
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
I then flashed the recovery (TWRP 2.2.1.4 at the moment) again to the phone.
next I erased Cache.
"fastboot erase cache"
I then used the phone itself to reboot the bootloader and went into recovery. It took about 10 minutes but recovery finally booted.
At this point I had no access to anything on the SD card. so I selected mount and mounted the sd card as disk drive to access it through my PC. I was forced to format the drive at this point and loaded a fresh copy of the ROM onto the drive for flashing.
You probably just got a wrong recovery. The recovery on twrp website didn't work for me. The one I downloaded from the development section works fine.
