I'm coming from the Galaxy and trying to make sure I don't screw up...can I flash any roms with this version without losing my precious 850 band?? And if so how do I flash my old radio back or is it that simple? Does flashing a kernel with voodoo sound change anything that I shouldn't? Just want to make sure that I don't get in too big of mess before I do anything. Not new to Android but there does seem to be some major differences to the i9000m to the Canadian version of the Nexus S.
Any help will be appreciated.

Something I have been cautious of as well with my 9020a.
I am running the latest Netarchy kernel without problems so I think you should be fine flashing a kernel. I have stayed away from any ROM that changes the radio. I tried the NSCollab ROM and it ran without problems but decided to go back to stock 2.3.3.
AFAIK Nandroid backup does not backup the radio but I could be mistaken.

I tried installing BAMF 3.0 RC2 on my phone, and I can't seem to get it working properly. Upon startup it force closes a bunch of things and the radio shows no signal at all. I have ran the MD5 on the download to ensure integrity. Also did a complete wipe prior to flashing. Could this be a radio problem? I haven't done any radio upgrades.

You need a gingerbread radio for a gingerbread rom.. so MR2 or MR2.5

i have the same problem and ive been trying to flash both radios its acting like its doing it in hboot but everything still is the same and no mobile network for me. can someone please tell me a way to get it working how do i check my md5 of my rom and stuff

when you say everything is the same, do you mean it still has the previous radio version number?
I'd suggest that you both:
1) Wipe data/dalvik/cache and flash back to a froyo ROM where you do have a signal
2) Upgrade from froyo to the MR2/2.5 radio
3) Re-wipe data/dalvik/cache (or even do it twice for good luck ) and re-flash BAMF 3.0
If its worth doing, its worth overdoing, especially when you're messing with radios and the like. Best of luck!
That's the same problem I first had with gingeritis before flashing the correct radio.. if you are still experiencing the problems after the radio flash i would suggest confirming the radio did install by checking the version number..
if it is all correct do as MattBeyers said and wipe and reflash
Thanks, that seemed to work. I still got a couple of force closes but much less than before. Also I can see my radio now! If I wanted to restore my old my Backup (Stock Froyo - MR1), do I restore my backup then flash MR1? If so, does anyone have a link the MR1 image? TIA!
I'm always one to upgrade/downgrade radios before I flash a ROM, so I would say to downgrade to MR1 and then flash the Froyo backup. Also, try going into ROM manager and using the Fix Permissions tool to see if that helps with some of the force closes.

Any reason for flashing one before the other? Reading through several of the ROM threads, it seems like everyone has a preference, but no one explains why.
I tried mr2 and mr2.5 but could only get 3g. Went back to CM7.

I just feel like the radio, being the thing that, well, controls every useful function on the phone, should be installed and present when a new ROM is flashed. I may be wrong, but it would seem logical to me that a new ROM would talk to the radio in order to make sure everything is kosher. But what if that's something that a ROM will only do once, at the first boot, and not once a new radio is flashed? Then, all of a sudden, you have the right radio, but its configured improperly by your ROM, since the ROM has already gone through its initial boot set up with the old radio. Therefore, my theory is radio > ROM (Please note, theory. )
Make sure u have a gb radio mr2 or mr2.5

This makes sense from a logical reason. Perhaps a ROM developer on this site can confirm this.
I have come to the conclusion that something is wrong with my phone. I have tried to install ICS....a lot. I am not exagerating when I say that I have tried every Odin install, and every ICS ROM that has more than a few positive results. Nothing will work. I am not new to flashing, I have had a Captivate, Inspire, Tab and have had no issues with those, even created a few themes and build.prop tweaks. I know what I am doing and I follow the OP instructions perfectly. The damn thing just wont take. I get the white Samsung screen, a black screen, a vibration, and a reboot. So at this point I think I am just going to stick with GB for right now and hope that either the offcial ICS update works (when available) or maybe 5.0 later this year.
Two weeks of try to make this work has run me ragged. Outside of the ICS issues though this is by far the best device I have had in terms of performance and reliablility.

If not what radio did u install, and did u install it before u flashed ics rom?
What recovery were u using?
Did u odin back stock in between each ics attempt? Did u use dark side wipe at all?

I have not tried the uclc5 radio. I saw a bunch of posts about it being for the Note, however the ROMs I was looking at all used ucld2 and ucla4 radios, so that is what I have been trying. Even the ROMs with the radio included as part of the install didn't work. And yes, I installed the radios (when applicable) before attempting the ROM install.
Recovery is the same, most ROMs suggested a particular recovery and I attempted using the suggestion in each OP, then attempted with the newest recovery when they didn't work, so I bascially did each ROM I tried twice. I did flash back to stock before each attempt.
I do have the dark side wipe and ran it before every attempt, then followed the OP instructions to perform the normal wipe\format and dalvik wipes when directed.
What kills me is that I get the same bootloop when trying an Odin ICS. The only version of that I have not tried is the version that was extracted from the oneclick.
I even had problems getting a GB ROM to install. I did manage to get superlite 3.1 installed after several attempts. You better believe I have nandroid backups of this working install....in several places.
My other concern is that even when the official update gets pushed out that I won't be able to install that either.
I appreciate your suggestion to use uclc5 radio. If I try to install that I suppose I need to try and flash a ROM that does not come with a radio as part of the package?

Personally, I haven't had anything but trouble with superdarkside. Its an excellent tool, but for me, hasn't meshed well with ICS. You should try following seans op for Sky ICS UCLC4, without using darkside at all to change from where your at now.
Also, the modem (aside from UCLC5 for some) has no effect on the installs, I sat on Sky ICS UCLC4 with the UCLC3 modem for a couple weeks without any issues at all.
I have tried all of the CWM mods posted here, and to be honest, my favorite is the CWM touch when installed from rommanager. Seans roms seem to take better with it more than the rest. The CWM touch that is posted on the sky UCLC4 OP is good, but it has a couple minor bugs.
Are you using SuperSU or superuser? Supersu has backfired on numerous occasions for me, I always stick to superuser (and I'm sure I'll be flamed for the comment. Every skyrocket reacts differently, remember)

I will give it a shot. I would really like to get back to ICS, I got so used to it on my other phones.
I have been using superuser, haven't had a problem yet from that.

I know this may be silly but have you tried to re-download the one click leak your using? Maybe you have a bad download or a corrupt file. And, or try to use a different usb port when you flash. It seems you've tried everything and maybe you have a defective device. I started having a lot of issues recently after going from ROM to ROM so I just flashed the one-click to get back to a clean state and then carefully chose which ROM I wanted to use and carefully install it. I've always used Darkside Superwipe but since I've quit using it, things have been much smoother. What I do now is what most Devs are saying now is to wipe/factory reset multiple times and format/system multiple times. If thats not working maybe go all the way back to stock GB with k0nanes stock tar and go from there. As far as the uclc5 radio, be careful!! I'm sure you've read that it can corrupt a partition and cause issues. I did flash it once and it did work for 48 hours but I noticed signal loss so I flashed back to uclc2. Maybe I got lucky it didn't mess me up, who knows? And if you have an issue not receiving an official update, IF you do go back to the stock GB tar, do a nandroid and flash that when it comes out. Just make sure you flash the stock recovery before you take it. I have a stock GB backup on my SD, so IF and WHEN it does come out, I'll just flash the backup, flash stock recovery and take the OTA. With your constant bootloops, it seems to me its a bad download or a defective device. It seems you've tried everything. Good luck...
^^^ this makes sense. Also I was asking about the note radio to advise u against it, or u may end up screwing up ur phone even worse, and have to make a visit to my corrupt efs fix thread lol.

I will try to get a different download, but I do not think that is it. The only reason I say that is because my phone had the exact same response for EVERY ROM I have download. They can't all be bad files. I have tried on two different PCs with three different USB cables. Good thought though, I have had bad downloads before. I am going to keep trying as the ROMs are updated and hope that I figure out what is going on, and hope that I can get the official update at some point. Then I will just root it and get rid of the bloat myself if I have to
I am going to stay away from the L5 radio, not worth the hassle.
On a side note, if installing a rom from the site, remember, most will work with the "base"
But need to reset/full boot before "updating".. dont just flash rom and flash update then reboot
I had a hard time with ICS as well with different problems, all I can say is it disproves the definition of insanity. Trying the same things over and over again will eventually make it work!
Hang in there, it's worth it. Whenever you do get the ODIN one click to work I highly recommend flashing Raider03's SMOOTHIE ROM. Awesome battery life and extremely "SMOOTH"! But be prepared for a few FCs and bugs with all of the ICS ROMS for now!

So my question is does any one know what the suggested radio for a Sensation on CM9 would be? I just rooted my Sensation about a month ago and have tried a few different roms, most recently Android revolution HD and now CM9 rc1. So far I love CM9 and plan to stick with it for a while but I feel like I'm not getting the best data reception. It seems like I drop from H(4g) down to 3g and back up again quite often in areas where I had fairly reliable service before. I've done some google searches and searched the forums here as well as CM's forums and can't seem to find a recommended radio file.I'm no longer on a stock radio since Android Revolution suggested a different one. Suggestions? Thanks for the help.
The reason you won't see a recommended radio file is because what works say for me might not work in the areas you live in. So radio is something you will have to experiment with to find your correct radio with matching ril file.something that works well in YOUR area. This is why people can not recommend a great combination for you. You will have to find what works best in your Area. When you flash the radio don't forget the matching ril file that goes with it ok. So do some experiments and see what works best for YOU. You flash the radio like any other pg58img file from bootloader then delete the file Afterward or it can prevent you from going to recovery. The ril is flashed like a Rom. Hope this helps you and answered your questions. So you alone must find what combo works best in your area. Best wishes to you.

Ok, so using what you said, I stumbled into THIS post and started rereading(I had actually looked at this before but didn't "get it"). I see that some of these are posted for certain countries. Is there a way to tell which ones are for tmobile 4g in the USA? Is anything NOT listed for another country assumed to be from the USA? Is there another list of radios/rils I should be starting with? Does country of origin actually matter at all?
If you scroll down you will see a link to ICS mirror on that same page. It has several generic ics radios , those are generic so I believe they will work with ics. I'm T-Mobile and I used the newest radio on that page and it works great! I would NOT use a radio labelled for a different country. For me I kept on the safe side and used the ics radios. The link is just before the gingerbread radios start. The name of the contributor is written in blue. That link will take you to ICS radio/ril mirrors. They work great for ics. Find the combo that works best for you and your area.

So I downloaded, checked md5 and flashed a new radio. Now my ROM wont load. I can still get into recovery but it wont load CM9. Suggestions?
You have to find a radio and matching RIL file that is working for your area. Did you use the generic ics radio file WITH matching RIL file? Each radio has a matching RIL file that goes with it?
You install both. Then see which combo works best for your area. In my case I used the newest radio/ril combo for ics. It is working well in my area .

I did use matching files, but it wouldn't boot. I ended up reloading stock tmouse firmware and re-flashing CM9. Ill have to try again tonight since I cant get away with any more while I'm at work.

Just as an FYI - After you flash new firmware, you need to go into recovery and wipe Cache, or wipe both cache and delvik cache. Otherwise, you will never get past the cm9 boot logo.

Doh! Did not know that, and I didnt wipe it until I tried flashing a new Rom. Wonder if that would have fixed it right off.
Hello everyone. I received my Verizon SG3 shortly after it came out. I have been doing reading as I am very new to android. This is my first android phone. Previously I had an EnV Touch. Hated that thing, but it did the job. So any who I now have this awesome kick butt phone and it has all the Verizon crap on it I cannot get rid of. I have rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. I used a windows program to gain root and then used EZ unlocker to unlock the bootloader. I have been looking and looking to figure out what rom I want to start with, I want JB, but don't want a lot of bugs ATM as i don't have all that much time to play with flashing and being still so new I don't want to end up with a brick. I tried my harderst to figure this out by reading, but the info seams so spread out, I kinda want to try the CM10 9-6 as I have read it is stable and not many bugs. My main question is about kernels. Am I correct in thinking they will get flashed just like my rom will in ROM manager? Or do I need to flash through CWMR? How do I know what Kernel to use? I have been reading the CM10 takes a different kernel than say synergy or stock. Or will the stock kernel work till I load the proper kernel. If I knew about the kernel and how vital it was to go with the ROM maybe I wouldn't be so paranoid. I have a friend with a GS2 and he told me the kernel has to go with the ROM and if the two don't mach then you could brick. I can't afford a brick my first time around.
If you could give me some advice or point me in the direction of some more reading that would be great.

All ROMs come with a kernel in them. Typically you just stay with it unless you want some extra features or what not. There are aosp kernels and kernels based on the stock firmware. If you use a touchwiz based rom you need to use a touchwiz kernel.
I don't think it will brick it if you interchange them. It will just boot loop
Edit: you flash kernels in recovery just like a rom. if you change kernels without changing roms you need to wipe cache and dalvik cache through recovery also.

Back up your IMEI before flashing anything, alot of horror stories floating around. Development has some fantastic guides. After that, most of the "big gun" rom's here have kernels, and are for the most part consistently the same flash method through recovery. Cwm recovery is solid and reliable, start with that until you feel comfortable enough to venture off. Make sure it's version 6.0.1.2 (regular or touch) for any jelly bean based rom.

I backed up the IMEI with the terminal emulator. So if the error occurred it would restore with the proper IMEI. Should I back it up any other way too?
Also I'm planning on using the Rom manager to flash the Rom. Do you not recommend that or should I do it manually with CWRM?

Your call, depends how paranoid you are! I would flash manually, it's a control thing for me, I know what/how/when all was done. Using 6.0.1.2 touch is awesome, speeds flashing up considerably.

I might have to try the touch. I have standard 6 on there. The one you listed. Rom manager gives me the option to load touch too. Friend uses Rom manager on his s2. Looks to just automate things a little.
What I don't know is if it wipes the appropriate areas first for a clean install or if it's doing it dirty.

Use the Synergy backup. If you lose your IMEI you just flash it again and it's back. Just make Nandroid backups and flash away. This is my first Android phone too and now I get why people become flash addicts, it's amazing what you can do. It's easy to relock and unroot if need be. Everything is easy if you take it smart and slow.

Just stick to a couple rules and you will be fine. First is backup, backup and backup before flashing. Always stay within the Verizon SGS3 section, Sounds simple but others have made the grave mistake. When flashing kernels, stick to the software, ie flash a JB kernel to a JB rom, flash a ICS kernel to an ICS rom. You should not have any problems but if you do you always have a backup. There are many roms, just flash an try them, make sure to read through the threads to identify any issues that have been discussed. JB roms there are a couple, a TW based JB rom from a T-mobile leak that was ported to VZW SGS3 that works well, there are official and unofficial JB vanilla roms, ie CynogenMod. Stick to those rules, keep a back up, i usually will transfer a copy of my original backup to my pc just in case, and always backup to external sd card. Good luck and have fun.
You can also flash kernels via Odin I believe.
