I've been flashing around between Desire HD ROMS on my Inspire and I found the H+ Logo to replace the H (here) but I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change it to signal strength meter to the 5 bars instead of 4 like the Stock AT&T Rom uses

Yes！
you can change the icon of 4-level to 5-level, but you shoul prepare the 5-level pics
the icons are stored in framework-res.apk,which position is /system/framework/
I really hope you don't DIY without any specs, or ,your phone may become BRICK! that's mean you should re-flash the ROMs

Modify the images in the framework and the XML. That is the only way.

thats why it buggered up the task bar on CM7 i guess had to flash back to the back up (which is stock) grrrr.

Keep in mind that different bases have different SystemUI.apks, so while this *may* work for all Sense ROMs, you should use one specifically built from your SystemUI.apk. There's some posted for ARHD in post 2502, and some for VU in post 2040. If you want one built specifically for your ROM let me know 1) What ROM/version you're running 2)what icons you'd like for hsdpa and hspa+ (and other networks if you want to change them - I have G, E, 3G, 3G+, H, H+, and 4G icons) 3)whether or not you want a 5 bar signal mod

Yea never tried these mods with an AOSP ROM...lemme give it a shot and I'll see what I come up with
Edit: Trying to figure out which files to edit and have a couple questions.
A) Are you using any themes? If you are I'll need you to post your SystemUI.apk so you don't lose any of your theme. If you're not...
B) Are your current signal meter and network indicator green or gray?
Also - The current icon sets I have are Sense icons, so they'd probably look kind of strange in an AOSP environment. Let me look around a little and see if I can find some other icon sets

Killed mine too and I'm on ARHD 5.2.6.
Thankfully had a recent nandroid. Maybe I missed something....

That build is for ARHD 6.0+. Your version of ARHD uses a different base and probably isn't compatible
Post your SystemUI.apk and what changes you'd like and I can make them for you.

If you can do this one, I would be much appreciated. H+ for HSPA/HSDPA+, 3G for UMTS, E for EDGE, G for GSM, 5 bar(which it should already be).

Hmm...did you pull the SystemUI.apk from the ROM's .zip or straight out of your /system/app/ folder on your phone?

/system/app/ and it was unmolested. It works great, no matter the original source, though.

Forgive me if there is another topic about this subject and you great mods can close this thread. A lot of the Desire HD Sense 3.0 and other ROMs based on 3.5 show 4 bars of signal strength. I'm used to 5 bars. Would I need to use the kitchen to produce the modded signal bar? The signal bar is all I want to alter on some of these Roms, I don't want to change nothing else. Would I need the devs permission to mod that part of the ROM, especially since the mod would be for myself? Until this I get an answer or this thread gets locked, whichever comes first, I will continue to search the entire XDA forum for my answer. Thanks!

What ROM are using? Why don't you try the kitchen and see if its there and then let us know how it went. I haven't been in the kitchen in a while but that's the best thing about this dev site, you got the tools to do these things yourself. Do it. haha, as for permission, if your using it for yourself and have no intention to lend it out I don't think a dev would mind, its when you start pushing it out to others that they might want some credit where credit is due kind of thing ya know
Kool, appreciate the response. I'm using RunnyDroid right now and it has the 5 bar signal strength. A lot of the Roms that are based on the sense 3 update for the Desire HD, and some of the sense 3.5 Roms, only have 4 bars. I just want to mod the Roms to get back to what I'm used to and try out these great Roms.

You can change it within the LeeDroid tweaks.
The Sense 4 version? There are fewer options due to the fact LeeDroid is base on the One X. Not as many features for it yet.
What menus would it be under?

Ah, my bad. Yeah I don't know about Sense 4, I'm on 3.6, but it's in the staus bar section labeled high speed mobile data icon for me.

I've been using elegancia Rom for a while now, but its glitchy for me at least. The browser keeps just crashing (no force close message). I keep seeing the lockscreen wallpaper glitching through apps. The problem is its the only Rom I've found so far with the 4g/2g icons. I've had problems with others that had H+/3g icons having slow as hell pings. Are there any other good, stable roms with the 4g/2g icons?

I have tmobile and been always using vipers rom its fast and has a lot of customizations for you to do including 4g/2g symbols. I'm one that has the wifi issues but if u don't u can also give cm10 of pure aosp a try they are really smooth and also give better battery life than sense based roms.
I had found Energy Rom to be a great sense 3.6 Rom on the t mobile base. It hasn't been updated in a while, bit it doesn't need it. Perfect as is.

You can manage this option in Viper tweaks..

theres a built in Tweaks option for Viper that lets you change the statusbar icons. you can also download LeeDroid Tweaks(3.32 base) or Darkforest Tweaks(3.33 base) if youre using a Sense 3.6 rom

The icons are just that - icons. They do not affect in any way, shape or form the ping time. That is probably mostly due to the radio/ril combination - each ROM comes with its own RIL and if you dont have the matching radio, you can get slow internet speeds/crappy battery and other stuff so best check your radio/ril combination on other ROMs
Yeah that's what I've been told, but my experience differed. When on a Rom with H/3g icons, my ping would be 1k+ when the status bar said 3g, but would be 150ish when the bar showed H. Not sure what the issue is/was, but I didn't have that issue on elegancia and it showed the T-Mobile normal 4g icon all the time.
I figured out how to get the H to show 4g, but its still constantly switching between H and 3g... Any way to get it to look/act like elegancia's?
