Hi. I'm having a problem. The wifi is draining my battery. My battery will only last about 4 hours of screen on time.
I've already check the power option of disabling wifi when the screen is off. Wifi drains at least 40%of the charge.
I've read other forums but nobody has an answer just yet. I really like this tablet, but it makes me mad just having 4 hours of battery.
Driver problem, an app misbehaving, hardware problem?
What can I do? What should I do? How many of you are having this issue?

Depending on your usage, it is indeed possible to drain battery 3-4 hours. I myself never had that situation but for those who played highly CPU/GPU intensive game along with WIFI had that issue. I usually had 5-6 hours on my routine use which to me seems was not much.
So couple things I believe you should look into.
1. How is your monitor brightness?
2. What applications are you running? e.g. are you downloading on background with playing some game foreground?
Those sort of basic things. To identify whether the WIFI is actual issue or not, one thing you can do is simply turn off the WIFI and do whatever you need for couple hours and see where you at in your battery. If you have 50% drained in couple hours without WIFI on, clearly WIFI is not the issue but if you suddenly get only 20% battery drain from WIFI off, it is indeed the WIFI.
If WIFI is indeed the issue and perhaps you can try Juice Defender but it will only save battery if you are not using WIFI all the time.

One last thing is obvious, but battery save mode rather than balance mode gave me extra couple hours without sacrifice in my foreground application performance; however, I did notice main screen page swiping or application launch animation weren't as smooth. Almost felt like back to my old Galaxy 10.1 tablet on Honeycomb.
There is actually a bug that makes your battery overview show the percentage of wifi on time as percentage of wifi battery consumption:
-> wifi on 80% of time > shows 80% of power consumption from wifi.
How long do you have your device ?
When i first got it I also thought that the battery time was bad but now ( i have had it for about a week) i get battery drain of 10% / hr while surfing and 14-18 %/hr while streaming video over wifi and 0,5-1% / hr while standby with wifi and sync on.
I have the brightness on manual contorl and when i watch video i change the performance to eco setting.

Yesterday I did a factory reset to rule out some mysterious app. The battery issue continued under wifi.
Wifi was still draining between 40 and 50% of the battery. Completely drained in about 4 hours of browsing time in balanced mode and about 40% screen brightness.
I just did another test. I played 2 movies with the wifi off. After 4 hours of screen on time the battery fell to 66%. So the tablet have enough battery juice for 12 back to back movies. That's great, I can rule out the battery.
So far I can confirm that the battery is draining extremely fast with wifi and is not a big showing erroneous battery drain.
4 hours of browsing tine is a joke for a tablet...
Any other things you think I can try?
For how long have you had it? No matter what people say, the calibration algorithms for these kinds of batteries still need several cycles of charging and discharging before they can actually read out any battery level accurately. I easily go for far longer than that on my device -- not that that fact helps you out, I know -- but I thought battery life was worse in he beginning as well. I guess it just needs to settle down a bit. Give it a week.
EIDT: Oh, and....eeehmmmmm.... do not believe the standard Android battery tool. Get yer mitts on BetterBatteryStats and get a few cycles on it, check the readouts and then report back in.

Thanks. I've already installed better battery stats.. While Web browsing battery drains up to 30%/h. I know is too soon to get to a conclusion. I will keep you post it.
Hope there is some firmware update that will fix this. This is Asus 5th tablet (transformer, prime, slider, tf300) I don't want a beta product!

i have a tf700 too and have the same problem on wifi I love this tablet, i think we need to find a fix. Hope to hear from some of the smart people on this forum.
The reason for the low battery is this; Asus did not put a larger battery in Infinity compared to Prime.
Both devices have the exact same battery, but since Infinity runs at a higher clock speed and has a higher resolution screen, it drains the battery much much faster.
You can't really fix this with software. You can however lower the voltage with a custom kernel, making slightly improvement....but that'll also make the device unstable.
Just to let you guys know, i have assigned a fixed ip address for my Tf700 and the wifi drain seems to have decreased. I won't rely on the native android battery monitor (mine still says 85% battery drain by wifi). But i have noticed much less actually drain/hour when using wifi with a fixed ip address than not. YMMV.

The strange thing is that the battery usage gives wifi 50-70% of usage. The screen is usually usually around 20%. Does any one else have this issue?

I never owned any Prime but I have the same issue as you. Do everyone else have 50% wifi usage and about 5 hours battery or would it be a problem on some specific models ?
This is only a problem with statistics display on Android, not WiFi draining 50% of the battery. You can understand it as "WiFi mostly on" or something just try other battery widgets with their own stats, you can see my best apps thread.

Well my mistake. The battery life started at 94% (forgot I reset the device) on that clock. After another 1.5 hours, it dropped 2% the way it was to 87%. Just turned off auto-sync and gps. We'll see how it does now.
As far as I'm concerned, it appears to be much better than my GNex. And I have a 41WH battery pack/USB charger for when I travel. I should be great with battery life.
My WiFi % on battery is way high too, but I'm not seeing a ton of battery drain. I'm at 92% after 3 hours with 10 mins of screen on time and auto sync on. WiFi is at 88% and screen at like 7%. Kind of odd but not noticing anything totally broken yet.

I was shocked at how fast the battery runs down on my Infinity. I've used mine for about an hour and a half so far today and it's at 65% already. Wifi shows as using 50% of the battery and I haven't really done any wireless work with it - mainly watching local videos. I'm getting about 4-5 hours of battery life every day.
Before anyone suggests that it's just a bad tablet - this is my second one. Both have behaved exactly the same way. I have installed Startup Manager and used it to disable all the live wallpapers, etc...from starting up when the device boots and it hasn't made any significant difference.

location via wifi is the culprit
I also had this issue after I bought the tablet. The battery was drained even in sleep mode which was a clear sign something was not right.
There seems to be a bug with google maps that makes maps ask location way more often than necassary even when no settings for this are yet made..
I noticed this when turning wifi off for sleep to keep battery cosumption down and maps came up the biggest battery hog after this change.
The remedy is to first enable location settings in google maps (you have to do this first to get access to location settings) and then disable all location updates you don't need. I actually turned everything off from maps but I left wifi location enabled in system settings so I can still refresh location manually in apps that need it so for example apps like star chart can get my wifi location instead of gps in my apartment. In fixed location wifi is accurate enough and much faster than waiting for gps signal. So anyway now i can leave the tablet sleep for a day and it will only consume 1-2% at most even when wifi is on.. hope this helps.

I'm a first time poster looking for a little help. I've had my Verizon SIII for about a week now and almost everything about the phone I have loved with the exception of the battery life. Given the 2100mah battery I was expecting much more. I tend to be a fairly light user throughout the day at work, I have the screen brightness turned down, all data is off, and I really only am using it for texting, maybe a little bit of gaming. I have found that if I unplug at about 8am by about 6 or 7pm the battery will be nearly completely drained.
Noticing that this seemed to be a fairly common problem I started doing some research to determine the source of this. First, by looking at the battery stats I observed the same problem that many others observe, a heavy drain in standby mode.

I should also mention that at times the phone does seem to get warm in the bottom left region of the back of the phone. However my phone was entering deep sleep as shown below, so this confused me a bit. But clearly there is some issue visible in the standby mode of my phone, sometimes the battery will drain ridiculously fast (as high as 1% every 5 - 10 minutes). And keep in mind that this is while virtually everything, data included, is disabled. So that eliminates the possibility of it simply having to search for a signal in a weak area.

Download and try Watchdog Lite. It's a really good monitor for finding out which apps are acting up.
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but can help with your problem. There are programs that can help to drastically improve battery life by turning off data (3g\4g) while the screen is off. This can double your battery life or more, especially for lite/moderate users. Most of these programs work by turning on the data 1 minute out of every 15 the screen is off. That way you still get email, and notifications. You still get txt and phone real time, as they do not rely on data. When you turn the screen on data is turned on, when you actually would want to use it. Especially in 4g areas this really saves battery, as 4g is a battery hog.
Battery Defender is my favorite. I feel like I should be paid for this advertisement...
Do you have BATTERY SAVER option ENABLED in settings? That makes a huge difference for me.
It sounds like you are still stock, but I used the Root66 image and after that started having huge battery drain. I did a factory reset to no avail, so then moved to Synergy Rom. Since then, I've had outstanding battery life! not sure if you were thinking about going this route, but it has worked for me. Synergy is debloated so I assumed Verizon crap to be the culprit.
The images I saw were all at 100% battery. Those are not very helpful. A shot of your battery stats at the end of the day would be a lot more useful.
Please note that Cell Standby reports incorrectly at the moment on the S3. Unless you do the fix linked above, it will nearly always be at the top, but it does not actually drain that much battery, it is simply a reporting issue.

I'm new here and have a quest about my new tablet
I bought the Transformer Pad Infinit a few days ago and I think that I could use the battery for 9 hours more or less.
But my battery is extremely weak, I just use this 3 or 4 hours with the GPS off and bluetooth off too. The wi-fi is just on in the half of this time, and waht I do in this time is play some games and use the internet. I use the "Energy Economy" mode all this time and the light of the screen is in 20%.
I guess my battery is more weak than others... What can I do to "fix" it?

The batteries aren't supposed to have "memory" meaning: they should be able to be charged over and over from any discharge level back to a full charge.
There also might be something running in the background that is taking down your battery charge.

I search in the internet and I found that the Li-Ion batteries have to charge arround 30%~50%. I do it much times.
I was using a animed wallpapers and I change it by a normal wallpapers. I guess this make some efecty

Yes, animated wallpapers definitely use more battery than static ones.

That's OK. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, and unused RAM uses exactly the same amount of battery as used RAM, so no need to fix anything here. Interesting for battery use is CPU utilization by running processes.
I have to admit the battery life is not brilliant on this tablet. It very much depends on the usage, this wasn't really the case with previous LEAST powerful galaxy tab 8.9. Even during playing games it easily lasted 8-9 hours.
Worst infinity battery times observed ( balanced mode, brightens < 30% )
- playing hard core 3d games, like dead tigger, battery dead in 3-4 hours
- playing less intensive games, battery dead in 5-6 hours
- browsing battery dead in 7-8 hours.
- watching movies, battery dead in 8-9 hours.
so anything between 3-9 hours can be normal with infinity. I cannot even imaging battery life in performance mode, IPS+ full brightens
I was with fear, 'cause for a moment thought that my battery was the only one that is "not so beautiful" But I saw that is not a problem with my tablet and yes with this model.
I'm Brazilian, here the Asus is a perfect nothing. Here we have just the TF101 who comes with 1 year delayed. So I buy the tablet in other country and I don't have warrancy, if my battery was with some problem I don't know what I would.
Here if I call to Asus they would hit the phone in my face before I can say "Transformer"

Asus very clearly says "Battery life tested under power saving mode, playing 720p video playback, Brightness:100nits, default volume with headphones." on their website. If you try something else, you'll get different results. Basic scientific fact.
Also, I can't stress this enough: Kill off all bloatware! No you don't need to root the tablet for it (most of it, anyway.) The more processes you run in the background, the more power they consume. Simple as that.
And WiFi EATS battery like you wouldn't believe. It's so horrible it's not even funny. The WiFi unit is very powerful, which is why it eats so much. So yes, using WiFi will eat your battery.
andoid uses RAM differently than Windows. Forget how it works there. Android reserves RAM for processes, even when they're not in use.
Could be the Google Location bug? there's info on that here somewhere too.
Go to settings --> Battery and see what uses the most percentage.
I recently purchased a refurb transformer t700t
The main problem i have with this tablet is that battery life is really low with wifi on - only about 5 hours with a full charge.
If i turn off wifi the battery life doubles, for example when watching a movie it averages about 10% battery loss per hour.
Checking battery usage with wifi on shows about 40-50% wifi usage as the maximum battery drain.
I've read posts here and elsewhere on the issue, didnt see any solution. Is there a solution?
Also, i ordered another unit (brand new) and the same problem is there. Hope to return the new one and replace the refurb one..

There is no real "solution" for this because there are so many possible causes...
It's probably not the wifi itself that causes the drain, but apps that keep waking the tablet from deep sleep and are using wifi to phone home.
Any social media app like Facebook, Google+, Google location, Twitter etc are high on the list of possible culprits.
To diagnose what it is that's draining the battery you can try apps like Gsam Battery Monitor, BetterBattery Stats or Wakelock detector.
Al of these have a learning curve to interpret the stats they provide. Gsam is probably the easiest to use...
Check if the drain is the same if you disconnect the tablet from the dock before putting it to sleep. Some TF700 have a mysterious battery drain which seems to be related to the dock.
You could also try resetting your router, putting it on a different channel (WiFi Analyzer may be helpful here).
Greenify is another great app you can try to hibernate offending apps. This is probably your best option if you don't want to spend hours and days trying to find the apps responsible. Especially if you do not have root on your device and cannot uninstall cr*** like FB....

Its not an issue of excessive wifi, or even wifi when the tablet is off. My problem is that wifi uses around 50% of energy when the tablet is on.
To put this into perspective, when watching a full HD movie with wifi off the tablet uses around 10% battery per hour.
If i switch wifi on and do light surfing it uses about 20% battery per hour.
Ive updated firmware, cold rebooted and disabled preinstalled junk - this is only when using just a web browser.
This is in balanced mode, brightness minimum
Does every tf700t experience this problem or is it just a few units?

My beloved red Nexus 5 starts acting up... the battery drains extremely fast. Some weeks ago, I could barely make it to 2pm without having to recharge after unplugging. So I got a new battery (directly from LG, so definitely a genuine part) which improved the situation, but didn't completely solve the problem. Additionally, I flashed a CM 13 CAF ROM (using myfluxi's kernel) onto the N5 - I enjoy it so far, but there was actually no further change converning battery life.
Right now, the phone is at 10% after being unplugged in the morning at 9am. Wifi, bluetooth, GPS and mobile data were constantly on, cell signal was mostly perfect, wifi was connected for about 3h, bluetooth was always connected to my Moto 360. Screen on-time is about 2h and I listened to music using GPM for about 2h. The battery settings do not indicate any app using up too much battery power - it shows the display at 15%, cell standby at 10% and then several apps.
What do you think - a Nexus 5 with a new battery should make it through a day, shouldn't it?
I remember my first Nexus 5, back in the days with a G watch, making it through a day without any problem with 15-20% left when I plugged it in before going to bed... because of that, I start to think if there might be a bad electronics part, like the display backlight or something on the mainboard, using up too much power without being noticed by the OS. Is that possible?

Read and post in the battery life troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of this forum, it will help logically determine what is using your battery.
You have a lot running at once, so difficult at the moment to solve your issue. It's better to turn things on/off one by one to make logical conclusions whether it has any noticeable effect.
The best logical way to conclude if it is a hardware problem is to go fully sock no additional apps no root etc, see if it 'drains' by itself
If not hardware, then 99% of the time it is a bad app(s) keeping your phone awake
This is likely not the case, but have you checked the CPU settings? I've only encountered such a drain while using performance governor together with overclocking.

I have the same problem and I have been banging my head about it, I don't really use my phone for anything much else than a phone and I kept having at least 3 days of using it with no problems.
Now the phone barely lasts 2 days and even switches off in the middle of the night...

In the OP's case, his drain is likely caused by having GPS on all the time. That will absolutely devour battery life, so he could save himself some grief by turning it off until he than your phone turns off occasionally. First guess would be the power button going bad; that is generally the reason for needs it.
For you, who knows? You've not given any information, otherthat type of behavior

Yes, sorry about that I was a bit annoyed at the phone. I found and fixed the problem. Go to settings > apps > disable google fit > click yes when it gives you some notifications about how you'll lose data or stuff like that > and click force stop at the end for good measure.
I am in my second day now of battery life at 59% with a looooooooot of talking today , I mean more than usual so it is definitely a fix for me. Hope it helps

Again same problem
Hi all,
Unfortunately I have better battery life but I am again losing a lot of battery.
I have a screenshot but I am unable to upload it sorry about that.
I use my phone mainly for calls roughly about 15 mins per day at the most in total ( not a lot at all I know) and I also have my bluetooth on at all times cause I have LG G Watch.
thing is that I have never had problems with the battery before. When I say before back in the day I still had my LG G Watch ( I have it for about 6-7 months) . Problem with the battery started roughly around 1 month.
Location is off, wi-fi is on on very rare occasions throughout the day when I need to check my e-mail and mobile data is the same. Navigation is used only if needed.
The real problem is that before I knew what was draining my batter now I have 79% of battery usage and I have 5 apps listed that drained each 1%
Android System 1%
Phone Idle 1%
Screen 1%
Google play services 1%
Android OS 1%
Where are the other 15 % ??
It is weird I really took pride in that phone and his battery life, I know that it is mainly because I don't use it as a regular used do i.e. gaming, facebook etc, but I still want to charge less than 1 time per 2 days or less

As stated above, read and post in the battery life troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of Q&A.
They will help logically diagnose what is using your battery.
