I noticed this today when watching some mkv files through BS Player and MX Player. When playing a movie, I hear a beeping or sqeaking sound every couple of seconds while the video is being played. The interfering sound remains present when I turn the volume all the way down to zero. It sounds like a quiet "beep......beep.....beeeeep...........beep...beep...........beep......beeeep.......beep." and goes on continuously until I pause the video. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Ok, so I've tried multiple headphones and earbuds with the same results. Anyone else hear some squeaking / beeping background noises, even with the volume down to vibrate? It is quite distracting...

Yeah, but I ignore it. My animu is turned up loud so I barely notice it.
I thought it was strange ,but my samsung galaxy SII also does this so I think its the wifi attenna
+1
I turned off both Wifi and Bluetooth; the problem still exists. I can still clearly hear the electronic squeals at normal listening levels that are moderately loud. One of the reasons I purchased the Infinity was to use as a portable entertainment device including movie watching. I hope this is something that is fixable or I will need to return the tablet. It is a shame because other than this highly distracting interference, the audio sounds great.
Hello, I'm having the same problem, it's a more or less static noise/hum from the hardware. I have two great inear-headphones. Triple.Fi 10 and Westone 4. It's especially audible on on my tripple.fi which are very sensitive. I get none of this interference from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or my iPhone 4.
I bought my TF700T in Sweden and have installed the latest update V.9.4.5.26
The thing is, if I pause my movie or music the noise goes away after a little while, It's quite obvious the system is shutting off the output when there is noting playing. I even tried this without headphones connected, putting my ear next to the speaker on the back, pausing my music/movie and I can clearly hear noise then after awhile it goes silent, the same as with the headphones.
Is there anyone else with this problem?
Is this common for Android and or ASUS/Transformer devices? Is there anything that can be done or should I return it and by another tablet instead?
Just to mention I'm having the same problem. And I'm fairly convinced that it is linked with microSD because when I watch stuff from internal memory there is no issue but when Iwatch movies or listen to musicfrom the SD, it does this beep.
And I won't even try to contact ASUS about this because I'm fairly sure they'll just deny the issue and tell me my 4 pairs of earbud all have the same flaw... which is starting to make me sick.
I hope this is software and gets fixed anytime soon. (BTW, I think it appeared with firmware .26 so it should go away)

Actually, I can almost *guarantee* that Asus support will tell you to do a factory reset - that is their solution to everything! Personally, I haven't used my headphone jack yet - I'll find some earbuds and report my findings though.
EDIT: Tested my headphone jack and didn't hear *any* interference at all - tried listening to music, playing games, watching videos - all sounded fine to me... I am using the Volume+ app to boost both the speaker and headphone volume, but that shouldn't matter...

Isn't there more people that can here the static hum with sensitive earphones and when listening with your ear on the back side speaker?
It is microsd
Very timely topic (at least for me) as I just noticed it today.
But as someone above mentioned it is related to microsd. I have ran exactly the same video off of microsd and then copied it locally off the tablet. The beep sound every 30secs-1minute completely went away. I have never noticed this with video streamed off online. So my conclusion is indeed due to video running from microsd. Though it is of uncertain why the case as microsd card slot seemed good distant away.
I'm having the same issue while watching MKV's and AVI's from microSD Slot, I haven't tried from internal yet, but it's very annoying to say the least, I first had the prime, returned it and bought the Infinity because of hardware issues. Now this, Jeeeez

+1 on playing music from micro sd. No problem with internal storage or streaming music.
Argh. I can't believe this, I am hearing it too. Seems to only happen when reading media off the external microSD card.
This could be a deal breaker for me, I might be returning this tablet.

So I moved my music to internal storage and will use microsd for data. Solved the problem, but I wonder what has caused it in the first place?
Would the type of memory card used cause something like this or just the hardware of the tablet microcard reader? I'm using an older 8gig card that came with my phone from 2yr ago. I don't hear this coming from my bt headset. Just the wired ones.
Doesn't beep for me. Playin goff SD, MicroDS and internal memory are all beep-free in MX, BS and VLC. tried it with a bluetooth headset, Sennheiser hd205 and the apple earphones.
Are any of you using volume boosters, by any chance?
Yes, I get a loud buzz listening with headphones that stops a bit after the audio source ends.
Glad I came across this - I just posted a new thread about this issue.
But I'm definitely having the same problem. Did anyone find a solution?
Does everyone hear it nonstop if you drag/seek a video? It's almost like its interference from the tablet computing

It's a really subtle beep...could you try running some HD video files off your tablet microsd slot and using plugged in jack headphones? Also try jumping around the video file

I've noticed that quality of sound when I connect speakers (3.5mm Jack) is poor.
Music sounds tinny and distorted. If I play the same file using my Nexus S, it sounds crystal clear.
Has anyone else found this or do I have a fault with my unit?
Thanks.
I'm also interested. It could be a deal breaker for me. It would be great if someone could dig up what A/D converter is used in Transformer (but it would probably require taking it apart ). It would be great if USB sound cards worked with Android.
If anyone who has one could run a test it would be much appreciated.
I'll add in my request for some info. Good sound is vital...
Do you get bad sound with headphones as well? Or just with the speakers?

Headphones a well.
I'm more inclined to think it's a fault as it really is awful.
just tested music via spotify. Sound through headphones is fine - pretty decent in fact.
<edit> youtybe vids sound fine also. <edit>
heard reports sound quality is fine, could be a damaged one you have?
You should also try checking if it's possible to put the jack deeper into the slot. The behavior you observed could be caused by bad contact. Also move the jack a little (rotate it) during playing music and check if the sound quality changes - maybe it's a little loose. But then it wouldn't be the same for headphones and speakers, so probably it's not it.
I got my transformer 32 two days ago and it worked perfectly, then today I have gotten my first SoD, and just recently my sound has gotten these same symptoms. Sound from both the speakers and headphone jack is very, VERY tinny and low quality. I thought it was linked to an app I just installed as it was not installed before when it worked fine, but the problem persists post-uninstalation. If anyone finds a fix to this PLEASE SHARE. I'd really rather not have to do an RMA already! :/
UPDATE: Now there is no sound period. I can not get anything to play from the speakers, headphones, OR over bluetooth. fun! *sarcasm*
UPDATE 2: Restart, sound is back, still fuzzy. Possibly a SRS Driver error? Perhaps the 'SRS Surround Sound' is more trouble than it's worth. Anyone know of a default driver that I could try and flash?
UPDATE 3: Sucked it up, backed up my files and did a factory reset. Sound is now back to normal sans the bad app. I'll update if it goes to **** again but let's just get this fixed Asus!
Interesting thread! I'm on day 4.5 and my speakers are tinny, which I'm saying is ok for audio only..yet not music, not even close.
But, a new world with headphone/ear buds and I discovered something interesting that I don't understand after playing around for 2+ hours. Yet now I'm really, really pleased.
My new Monster Turbine ear buds that are really nice on my iPod Touch to enhance give me an tinny sound like quality and are my newest. A 'no go' and I almost thought I had speaker problems.
But, my regular/standard iPod Touch ear buds and my Boise Headphones are really, really nice for sound quality...bass, deep sounds, etc.
I know I don't know enough about ear buds/headphones, but surprised that the ones I thought would work the best...didn't come close.
I do plan to watch them while I still have my 'return period', but super nice audio with the right ear buds/headphone only(s).
Similar issues:
Sound was fine for the first 3 or 4 day, then i started experiencing the same tinny sound, vocals almost seemed slurred audio quality was so bad, however notification sounds seemed fine. This lasted 2 days then magically the sound returned to normal. Again about 3 days later the same poor sound returned, so I searched these forums and someone had posted doing a factory reset which worked, however I do not want to be having to do this each and every time the sound goes fuzzy. Since the .13 update the whole poor sound good sound returning has happend once more....very frustrating
My 3.5mm jack works fine (day 6 for me). Sound quality is better than any other android device I've used. Volume is a little low but otherwise sounds fine.
My sound goes to crap every few days. Crackling, distortion, etc. A reboot always fixes temporarily. Clearly a software problem.
Going to miss the Dolby Mobile sound on the Iconia. While not perfect it was really good. Will see how the TF sound stacks up when it comes in tmrw!

You mentioned a bad app. What app was it?
I've just sound tested my TF the other day, and was quite impressed with the sound quality from the drivers. I did a comparison between my TF and my iPod touch using sennheiser bass driven earbuds. I'm definitely getting more clarity and bass from the TF than I am from the iPod. It sounded amazing. With that said though, I know there's a bug sometimes where I guess the sound driver isn't working properly and my movies start sounding like they're using 8-bit sound output.

Damn! I thought my TF had rubbish sound, and then found this thread, rebooted and sound became magnificent!
Ok, so I just got my Transformer about a week ago. Been messing around with it in full stock form, Prime Rom, and Revolver Rom with Voodoo Sound drivers (with and without).
Let me first say that I've searched countless threads about the Transformers possible sound issues and I'm pretty sure this seems like a software issue but I'm not 100% sure and want to have input on my specific question.
Does anyone else notice and volume fluctuation during any playback (Music, Youtube, Movies on SD), even when the TF is hooked to external speakers? I wanted to test it out and see if it was because my TF possibly has a defunt internal speaker, but after plugging in my external Bose PC speakers, I noticed that it continues to fluctuate even through the Bose. Even at times I will get a small static noise which seems absolutely ridiculous considering my Droid X2 doesn't even make a static noise during playback.
If anyone else has this problem, have they gotten this resolved somehow? I'm about to RMA to Newegg and wait for the Xoom 2 to come out or just forget the tablets all together if its a Honeycomb Issue...
I've seen that there are others with this same issue: Popping and crackling sounds while listening to MP3, whether listen to a song or even notification sounds that are MP3. Does not matter if coming from external sd or from internal. Streaming audio is find (Pandora, Sirius, YouTube). As there are a lot of people acknowledging this problem, no one seems to have any solution or idea of what it is. Speaker, BT and headphones all have the "noise". I've seen warranty replacements that still have the same problem, software updates by carriers that after the update, still have the issue. Has anyone else had this continous problem as I have, and anyone know of a solution?
Yep and their is an easy solution, though its better to wait for a fix. Its been fixed in the international version already. It seems to happen because even though the audio player is running, the phone is on the lowest CPU speed and put the audio not as an important task.
I'm running SetCPU and I've tried changing the lowest setting to as high as 1100, it still didn't fix it. All that did was get the phone super hot!!!
Still no one else with this issue on here? It did it on stock right out of the box, All of Synergy ROMs, IMO kernels to date, and BEANS 5 & 6. And Samsung and Verizon say there is nothing wrong with the device. Anybody else having anything similar at all?
Its not just us, some people may not notice it. Its their, and its been on almost every Android phone.

Thanks for the reply. I knew I wasn't imagining it. Every notification I get, even my ringtone has it.
I am also having the same problem. Headphones plugged in (NOT the stock ones, one with a TRS plug, not a TRRS plug) and I get the dreaded crackling noise...when I have the USB cable plugged in to the PC (not sure about the wall yet). When I unplug it, the crackling/popping stops immediately. Plug it back in, starts up again. So that's definitely it for me. Do you have it plugged in USB to your PC or wall when this happens or no?
Does anyone have white noise/static feedback issues with the audio? Its easier to notice when I use in-ear earbuds, but if I place my ears next to the speakers I can hear it as well. I'm not sure how to describe it but it doesn't distort the noise, its almost like a layer or white noise.
It only happens when the tablet is in use, someways to easily make it occur is by pressing apps/status bar/unlock screen but after a few seconds it goes away. However when I'm listening to music the white noise is always there, especially noticeable in soft/low instrumental music. Is this normal, does this happen to anyone else?
I already sent in one of my tablets for repairs only to have it sent back saying it was fixed when it wasn't. Then I had to send it back again for a replacement, and now this new tablet has the same issue. After all this I'm not sure if this is just normal or am i just that unlucky.
Please can anyone tell me if they have any noticeable audio issues so i know if i need to return this tablet again.
I had an issue before that the speaker would crackle in YouTube. But I think that was a software issue. Whatever you described does not sound normal to me. I don't notice any kind of white noise during normal use.

No. Not from the speakers, over BT, or via a 3.5MM connection. And I have a pretty decent set of headphones that would definitely pick-up any distortion. The fact your experiencing it with all audio out makes it seem like s/w. It's not unusual to hear reports of the occasional 3.5MM jack being bad but most of the other audio related h/w is part of the circuit board. Try doing a factory reset. If it's gone after that it's something s/w or app related.

Yep. It sounds like a h/w problem.
Can you guys try these two tests below and see if you hear it? Wear earbuds, preferably in-ear earbuds as it seems to pick it up a lot clearer, and be in a silent room when doing this.
Method 1
Turn the tablet on and have it on the unlock screen, wear the earbuds and make sure not to do anything, it should be silent. Proceed to unlock the screen and see if you hear any audible white noise in the background, after a few seconds you should hear a very low but audible click. After that click the white noise disappears.
Method 2
Have the tablet unlocked, and have your earbuds on. Make sure you don't do anything for a few seconds due to the nature of this test. After that proceed to expand the notification bar (lower right corner). After it expands see if you hear any audible white noise, after a few seconds there should be a click and the white noise disappears.
Those methods are the best and easiest way to explain how I replicated the noise. I've come to believe this is a hardware issue and a design flaw in the tablet because all the note 10.1 floor models at my local best buys also have this issue.

YES! I posted something about this, with STATIC in the title, but received no responses. I get a squeaky kind of static, most evident with earbuds. I'm using Shure and they're awesome, so I don't think it's them. I'm going to try another pair, just to isolate the issue. But I hear it during videos and music. During videos, if there's no sound at a particular point in the video, I don't hear it, but as soon as someone speaks, it's there right along with the audio, in sync with it.
It's REALLY annoying, as it makes listening to soft, quiet music as I fall asleep pretty impossible.

Hey guys, I know the title sounds weird but has anyone gotten the problem of Audio coming out of both headphones and speaker randomly while listen to music or watching a video?
I have a 32GB nexus 5 and I was watching a video and all of a sudden the volume went down and I could hear from my headphones and speaker as well. Just wondering if it's just my device or someone else is also having this problem.
If so, you think it's a software issue or hardware? Cause if it is, I'm gonna get it returned or exchanged asap.

Trust me I did that. When i watch YouTube sometimes and put it landscape the audio starts coming out from the speaker while headphones are plugged in. I reboot the phone then everything goes fine but sometimes it comes back again. This was the second time so I am worried whether it's a hardware issue of software. I feel it's software.

Just to echo: I had the same problem whilst listening on poweramp on my headphones, I declined a call by sending a text and all of a sudden I have audio coming out of headphones and speakers. Very embarassing on the tube!
I have restarted the phone and all seems to be good, but Google need to fix this.
I got the Mobile on the day before yesterday, and yesterday only I first connected the headphone, and I experienced similar issue. While playing music through PowerAmp, all of a sudden the volume on the headset gone low, and I heard its coming through speaker also. I pushed the jack all the way in, but the problem persist all the day long. when I put the jack in, it starts playing on the headphone only, and randomly it starts leaking. while playing through headphone whenever I press the power button, it starts leaking, whenever I go to the eq screen on the poweramp it starts leaking. along with that it starts leaking randomly. Today after seeing this post I rebooted and till then I have not experienced it again. Please let me know, did u RMA it? or the problem solved?
If anyone else has a opinion or a suggestion please respond.
On a side note, my speaker volume is terribly low, I didn't know there was a shutter sound exist, until I read from the forum today.

I have a similar problem with my nexus 7, after buying a new audio jack/ micro USB port assembly. About two days ago the audio just stopped coming out of my headphones and instead plays from the speakers and I have know idea whats going on, if it is the assembly then I've wasted $70.
