Finally recieved my case: "Black Rubber Hard Cover Case For Google HTC Nexus One" Link to store/ebay.
Pros:
1) cost: $3.55 shipped
2) fits better in my hand. The phone was too thin and slippery earlier
3) still fits in the sleeve. Very tight fit. Update: don't need/use the sleeve anymore.
Cons:
1) The edge where the two halves snaps together is not as seamless as I hoped. Not too visible but you can feel the sharp edges when you hold it.
2) Its harder than I expected. It wont provide much shock-cushioning if I drop it.
3) Shipping took 20 days.
Update: 5/7/10
-Dropped it a few times after using it and it protected the phone. The case splits open when dropped.
-I don't feel/hear the "clink" sound the uncovered phone makes when placed on hard surfaces.
-I'm saving a lot of time by not using the sleeve. The sleeve is not needed with this. (I have a screen protector too)
-The grip of the phone is excellent.

- the smooth finish on the case is just a thin layer. underneath is brittle, shiny black plastic.
- my case has lost a piece on the top right and that part does not hold together very well. Maybe one of the drops cracked it..

nice. I have one something like this but it doesnt come up so much to the trackball.
Two reasons I will never consider putting my N1 in such a case:
Poor heat dissipation. The phone can get warm with heavy use. In a rubber case it WILL get hot, especially during warm weather. Add to that the confines of a pocket and trouble can easily follow. The screen can crack from heat alone, without any external pressure.
It won't fit into the car dock.

1) So it underclocks the CPU when it gets too hot? Nice, I never thought of doing that with SetCPU.
2) I should've been more specific. It wouldn't fit into the Google's official Car Dock. I paid $55 for that thing, so I'll be damned if I don't use if because of a case

Of course you can use it, all you have to do is remove the case. When you are done put the case back on the phone. It may "seem" like a lot of work but it really isn't not that bad at all.
I will never understand why people insist on putting hideous ugly cases on their slim and sexy phones. The iPhone suffers from this and so does the Nexus.
You DO realize these phone are designed and tested to be carried as is, right?
Cases are worthless and make your phone ugly and bulky :-\

GldRush98, I also hate putting stuff on the phone for "safety" purposes, but you gotta do it for resell/longevity purposes. I got the case-mate gelli one, but that rubber one of yours looks nicer britoso. On second though, nah!
I absolutely hate having to use a case and a screen protector, but I do it for the resale value. My blackberry got trashed and a case and screen protector would have netted me $300+ for resale.
I believe its even more important for the N1. IMO the N1 will hold more value for longer than your average smart phone. Although I have no data to back that up.

I have ACCIDENTALLY dropped 2 iphones and shattered screens in 3 yrs with NO case. Both times it was in my lap when i got out of the car. Both times i had a case for it, but wanted the sexiness that particular day. Not a long drop at all. After putting an ugly bulky otter box on it, i've actually thrown it across the room numerous times to show how durable it is. I do agree they are sexy without the case. But sometimes a hideous case to save yourself a few hundred bucks (or more) is a great idea. To say you could "never understand why" and "Cases are worthless" insinuates you might be quite slow and need descriptive answers or examples so you CAN "understand why." understand now? oh and some cases are actually quite sexy, otterbox NOT being one of them. Case-Mate has some nice ones with different color rubber inserts. 3 people today told me my phone matched my shirt lol

I've been looking for a case for my N1 that protects the screen from impact when I'm not using it. I've been using a cheap ebay leather case, which I've noticed a few issues with that I'd like the case I eventually use to not have:
1) The leather surrounding the screen interferes with things like pulling down the notification bar, or hitting buttons on the sides of the screen (q and p on the keyboard especially).
2) When the case is open, the top is open, so if I accidentally hold it upside down while using it, it literally just slips out. I've done this twice already this week - luckily onto carpet
3) The magnet interferes with the compass.
The best I've found so far is Proporta's Aluminium Lined Leather Case (I'd post a link, but new-user-restriction thing. It's pretty easy to find via proporta.com), but I've heard that it's a flimsy fit. And there's a bunch of other leather cases I've seen where I can't tell from the stock photos if there's a slip-out-able edge or not.
Any thoughts/suggestions? Any people with a case that just happens to meet the four criteria ?

It's not exactly cheap, but it's built like a tank. I have one for my N900 too, six months and it didn't tear or anything. Sure it scratched a bit, but nothing major.
It doesn't cause me any problem with the screen, in fact I grip the phone in a fashion where the side of my hands touch the sides of the screen, causing all sorts of weird touch problems. With the case, I don't have any of these problems anymore.
You can slip it out if you want to, just push the bottom of the phone up and it'll come out, but not easily.
I'm a big fan of Krusell cases. The orbit is right up your alley. I've been using them osince the BB pearl first came out, and I wouldn't trust my phone to anything else. Leather is phenomenal quality, the front is removable if you like (or you can fold it backwards and it'll work as a kickstand) which combined with the multidapt kit gives you the option to use your phone in one singular case running, biking, driving, or just walking. It comes with a multitude of different style fittings and they all just simply click in and out.

Hope this helps in your search...I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a better quality more versatile case...though the one the other poster looks pretty good too, I must admit.
Ultimately I settled on the trident case, pictures in this post. Thanks to gtny930 for finding it for us.

Rubberized case, two pieces to fit the slide function, looks like a winner.
I doubt it'll be as good as an otterbox as far as protection, but a buddy of mine has an otterbox for his Inspire 4G - and suffers from serious overheating problems. Since our phone already suffers from that with the stock battery i'm gonna pass otterbox by on this phone. (Anker 1900 battery solved overheating problems for me)
Anyways, at less then $3.50 shipped, seemed like a fantastic deal.
Meantime, I have a screen protector and bodyglove on it now, which seems to be a good temporary fix until some proper protection was available. Love the glove, but to me it's only a temporary solution.
What're the rest of you doing for a case or protection for your phone? I'd love to hear about it.

MT4GS Cases / Shells
The rubberized hard Body Glove shells offered by T-Mobile (and sold on Amazon, eBay, etc...) are bulky and are missing holes for the microphone above the camera lens. I ended up buying the full body Invisible Shield and it looks great. The only problem is that they didn't include a piece for the bottom front of the phone (under the buttons and around the touchpad). I can put a hard case over the shield if I want, for extra protection or to just change up the look.
I have the solid black case. Just some things to note. First, the back piece is very tight, and I don't think it will ever fall off. However, when removing and replacing the cover, the clips can easily scratch your phone. Second, one or two clips may not actually "clip" to the phone, but rather just get stuck near the top so it still holds from pressure. This really isn't noticeable, but it leaves indents from the pressure on the phone's case. In addition, the clips scrape up against the backside of the screen when sliding up the phone, and over time, start leaving a very noticeable mark. I corrected this with a just a strip of tape over where it was scraping.
The protector for the sliding part of the phone was a bit of an issue. It clips very tightly to the phone, but the clips scrape a lot against the edges of the phone next to the keyboard. In addition to making it a little more difficult to slide the phone, it leads to wear overtime (noticeable wear actually started in less than a few hours of normal use for me). I corrected this by actually cutting off the clips, and using double sided adhesive to stick that part of the case on. It doesn't scrape anymore, but at the same time, it just doesn't look good as the case doesn't properly hold together.
I don't really see how much of this can be fully fixed. I used to own a G1, and I didn't notice the issue of cases scratching the phone until it was too late, but I was able to notice it on my MyTouch. I'm hesitant to go for the BodyGuardz. I had one on my G1, and though it was nearly invisible protection, and protected 95% of the phone, I ended up dropping my phone and it landed on a sharp rock on part of the 5% that happened to not be covered (which ironically actually are the corners of the phone, where it is very likely to land on).
I'm actually a fan of the body glove case. I'm just waiting for something with more clearance because of the anker battery. I've heard goods things about the otterbox, but it is kinda bulky.

I was going to edit in my response about the case I got in the first post - but after this one I quoted I need say not much more.
I really want to like the case, it feels nice and looks good on the phone...but it makes it too much of a pain in the ... to get the back of the case off.
I didn't realize how often I pop the back of the phone open to swap out memory cards until I put the case on.
It lasted on my phone for about 3 hours before I took it off...and it scratched one corner of my phone when I did it. Scratch isn't bad, and it'll probably buff out over time, but it's the first damage the phone has suffered - ironically from the thing that was supposed to prevent this.
If you are never going to pop open the back of the phone to get to the memory card, and you don't mind the backside of your screen-half of the phone getting scratched up when you slide it open - then this is a pretty decent case.
I think the scratching the back of the screen part can be solved by using a knife to cut a sliver off the part that sticks op, then maybe using a small piece of electrical tape to cover that clip.
I like it, I want to like it, but I can't use it - I take the phone apart too damn much for a case like this to be practical.
I'm on the lookout for a gel-type case now. Think that'll be the perfect solution. If anyone finds one, please mention it here.
I got the black cheap case today. After reading the reviews I knew better than to just throw it on there. So I took a small metal file that I have, and proceeded to shave each clip down just a little. After a few trials I got the clips shaved down enough that they all fit and are not pressing against the bottom of the screen hard enough to scratch it.
The coating on this case was not really rubber. Its more of a dusted flat black. It's not slick to the touch, but it doesnt grip like the rubber of the phone.
The phone still fits into the generic style T-mobile mount. But its not as secure as without. I can turn it upside down and give it a light shake without coming loose. So hopefully it will be fine.
I got my psychedelic cover and I'm not very impressed with it. It makes the phone very bulky and awkward to hold (maybe because of my small girly hands -_-).
I find taking the back cover off particularly stressful because I'm scared I'd rip the screen off the keyboard.
Protection wise I haven't dropped my phone yet to see what kind it would provide but I'm guessing it wouldn't fall off the phone if dropped.
Haven't seen any dents or scratches caused by it.
I think I'd prefer it if it had a more rubbery feel as the texture is kind of smooth and slippery.
Overall, I'm satisfied with it but I wish I could figure out a way to take off the cover without the fear of destroying it. Haha.

Yes, it's a woven "carbon fiber" pattern. I took the pictures at angles where the light shows it more clearly. I think it looks nice and provides a "non-slip" surface as well without adding any bulk to the phone when you want to use it, which I personally prefer.

Thanks. I ordered one and installed it yesterday. The front and back went on great. I had more trouble with the sides but that is because I am not the most deft person around. There are a lot long thin pieces but MT4GS has a lot of moving parts. The phone looks great from the front. But the back has a bubble or two - again my clumsiness.
I wonder how long Otterbox will ignore this phone? Annoying....
Meanwhile, this HTC shell is gettin it done. Only complaint is that its not Otterbox.

That's about the same thing I got that I posted about before - just mine is in black.
I know I said a few posts back that I wasn't going to use it, but I had to do something to try to keep it safe.
I've been using it for a few days now, and while I have my gripes, I suppose it's okay.
I got tired of not being able to put it down anywhere, for fear of scratching the camera lens. This case sits further down then the lens, so it isn't the thing the weight of the phone rests on.
Before, i'd have to find something soft to put it down on everywhere I went, which was annoying. I wouldn't put it in my pocket, because they are always full of dust and whatnot - that little grainy stuff gets into the phone and I didn't want that.
Now, with the case on, it doesn't fit in my belt holster anymore - so I have to put it in my pocket or carry it. Desperately seeking another solution but coming up short.
What i'm thinking about doing is drilling some holes in the back of the case, and attaching a belt clip to the hard case shell itself.
So now i'm looking for either a belt holster or a clip I can attach to the hard case itself. Whatever ends up happening, i'll get some pictures and put 'em up here.
What I really, really, really, really want is a soft-rubber case, like a gel case of some sort that can absorb shock - not some hard plastic thing.

Can you 2 that got this case tell me if it fits OK? I hate cases that feel like they are going to fall off after they are on...does this one do that? Specifically when you slide the keyboard up with your thumbs does the front part of the case feel like it would fall off because of your thumb pressure?
Just wanted to be sure it was somewhat well constructed...the $5 price tag just has me concerned.

No, it's fine. I've dropped the phone twice and the case hasn't come off. And it certainly isn't about to come off from handling/usage of the phone. It fits snug. Supposedly its made by HTC, if that means anything. The case does it's job without problems.
Just waitin for Otter.....

It fits snug, coming off accidentally isn't a problem. Both the top piece and the bottom piece are secure, normal - or even some exaggerated abnormal - use won't knock it off.
The longer I use the case the more it grows on me, I really like the silky feel of it. There have been a few situations already where having a case protected the phone - I haven't dropped it and hope I never do, but since it's becoming a portable video game system/controller amongst other things it can't be without one.
I suppose you could do far worse then this case, but i'd trade it for a gel-type rubber case in a heartbeat. Hard cases don't protect from shock damage.

First let me start this off with stating something very important. This case, while originally being marked for the TF700, is actually for the Prime. The seller, PC Micro Store is an awesome seller who stands behind their sales. When I contacted after purchasing letting them know the company says it won't fit, they immediately offered a refund and to send a return label. I said I'd wait until I got it and see how it fit and if it was usable.
So I got the case in today. It is titled "rooCASE Slim-Fit (Black) Folio Case Cover with Multi Adjustable Viewing Angles for ASUS Transformer Pad PRIME TF201" now after the change. The vendor shipped it incredibly fast, I got it 2 days ofter items shipped straight from Amazon, pretty good. It was packaged in a plain brown envelope via USPS. It cost $15 + $5 S/H, but seems price may have gone up a few bucks.

Inside was no padding, but none is needed. It was a pretty clear package.
The case actually snapped in rather easily considering going into it the case was a bit small. I've had other cases that had to have alot more effort to put on. Because the case clips on the corner, it has a far sleeker "barely there" look and feel to it. The case is designed to cling onto 6 points as seen in the first photo. 4 of which are primary and two are secondary. The secondary are the ones made to pop on and off easily to facilitate in the converting to a stand. The primary are made to keep the case on. The secondary do not cling well, barely holding on. The only other fault I can find with the case after an afternoon/evening of using it is the closuire clip is a bit snug since the tablet is slightly bigger, but I'm confident that this will self remedy as it breaks in. The case has a hand strap that is very handy. It has 3 positions that give a good range of angles. All in all, I would be more then happy to pay $25-$35 without hesitation for this case assuming nothing comes up in the future. The thread is all the same color as the material (black and grey), flash makes it look white on black.

I've been using this case for over a week or so and it has proven to be ideal. There is very little to find that would be a "complaint". The only thing that I have been inconvienced by is the location of the charge port, but this has nothing to do with the case and only the phone. One of the roto cases would fix this by having a second option to set up on a desk. This is a case and not a dock, so I cant place a bit of fault for this. The closure tabe was a bit (very!) tight at first but has since become easy to close with a pinch of two fingers. The case has broken in to fit as if it really was made for this device. I love it and highly recommend it. I have become a case junky over the years and never expect the first case I buy to fit properly or to be happy with it, especially when only a couple cases exsist and not even built specifically for this device. So I still find myself wanting to try other cases, but am happy till I find that "ohh gotta have!" case, perhaps a gumdrop or other non book like case, more of a survival case.

One very good point of your case: your camera's lens is free -- on the similarly priced leather case I bought before retail availability of the TF70, my lens is partly obscured and the upper leather frame piece is wobbly.
Oh well, at least I can ask a new case for my birthday......... in November.

just ordered the tf700 and the roocase as well. will be here on Wednesday. I had not seen this review before ordering the roocase, but it looked pretty good on amazon. which, I guess, isnt saying much considering that most of the cases are very similar. I just wanted something specifically for the tf700 and not the prime. will report back when everything gets here.

Agreed, that's just another leather slip on case. It does however appear to rotate. That would be handy for those who like to charge it while propped open like on your desk.
Ok, I finally got the TF700T and the roocase http://goo.gl/8yN60 (not the same as in OP) and some roocase anti-glare screen protectors. I know, Gorilla glass 2 zomg...but I find the screen to be very reflective, so anti-glare screen protectors can't hurt.
First, the anti-glare screen protectors. Sure they are functional in their capacity, but was the worst screen protector I have ever had to apply. I have been applying screen protectors for more years than I care to remember to many devices of varying size. This is not the first time I have ever applied screen protectors to a tablet nor the first time I have applied static application screen protectors. Wow. What a chore. I have spent the last hour smoothing out bubbles that will not go away. Luckily none are on the actual screen area. There are still at least 5 bubbles the size of the front facing camera aperture around the bezel. Highly annoying and sure to set off anyone's OCD and make you want to stab people. I have another anti-glare and HD screen protector from the same pack that I can try to apply, but I am not sure it's worth the effort. I may just remove it entirely and deal with the glare. Also, while in the roocase, the bezel is not visible and neither are the bubbles...so maybe ill just leave it in the case forever?
Second, the case itself. My girlfriend got the similarly styled case from blurex http://www.amazon.com/Blurex-folio-...&qid=1344546550&sr=8-2&keywords=blurex+tf700t on the same order, so I will be using that as a comparison. The roocase seems to be lighter. I am not sure if this is factual, but in the hand, with the tablet inserted, it just seems lighter. The finish of the roocase seems to be nicer as well. The size is perfect. In fact, I would say ultra perfect if that makes sense. On her blurex case, the sides of the tablet are exposed and protrude ever-so-slightly past the edges of the case. On the roocase, they are well concealed within the folds of the case and well protected. I realize that the blurex is stated to be for the TF201, but the height/width dimensions are the exact same between the two tablets, with only the thickness being different.
Now, the biggest downside of the roocase. The accessibility of the charging port. Terrible, basically describes it. On the blurex, there is a slot cut out for the charging cable to be connected while closed as where on the roocase there is not. The "spine" of the case while closed is a solid spine. This, in my opinion is just silly. Maybe it wont matter to some people, but it certainly matters to me. Not being able to keep this thing plugged in while in the case (and the case closed) is a huge minus to me.
OK, time for the biggest plus. That would be the velcro mechanism used for standing it up. On most cases of this type, there are three grooves etched into the front cover that the tablet sits in while standing up so you only get 3 viewing angles. On the roocase, your options are unlimited. The velcro allows you to stand it up at any angle up to 90 degrees. Very clever design feature.
The tablet "housing" on the roocase is better than the blurex as well. The blurex is one of those cases that you "clip" the corners into, then to close you fold a clip over the exposed area at the top by the cameras. To be honest, I really do not like this design as I feel that it will eventually wear down on the corners and where the closure clip is. On the roocase, it slides into a sleeve and is protected around the entire bezel. A small flap at the base (where the charging port is) slides behind it with velcro to fasten. Very secure system and great design. There is a hole in the flap to allow the charging cord to connect, but again, while standing up...charging is a no go.
The only other glaring design flaw I see on the roocase is that the speaker is entirely covered unless standing up. While both cases have little holes placed over the speaker, on the roocase, the speaker is hidden entirely against the inside of the case unless standing up. This virtually mutes the sound to a quiet whisper. Even while standing the volume is very slight. So unless you plan on listening with headphones while in the case, dont plan on much sound.
The last thing that I see as somewhat of a flaw is that you cannot really fold this case over like a magazine. This may also seem petty to some, but one thing I actually like about the blurex is that you can open it like a book, then fold it over on itself so that you are actually holding it like a tablet again. This is impossible to do on the roocase cleanly. As the spine folds over there is about a 1" gap behind the tablet and the front cover. It adds a significant amount of bulk while holding it.
Finally, the closing mechanisms. The roocase is simply a magnet inside the front cover that keeps it closed. Again, the closing mechanism on the blurex is a plastic clip that clasps over the tablet itself. I see no good coming of this over the long term. I think that clasp will end up wearing grooves into the tablet. Sure, there is a slight concern about a magnet so close to the tablet, but I do not believe that this will introduce any long term effect to the tablet.
All in all, I like the roocase. There are, however, several trade-offs that may be hard to live with. I will test drive it for a week or two and see if I can get used to them or not before deciding whether or not to return it. One feature that I would have liked to seen added to this case is a rotating feature of some kind. Not the end of the world, but would have been nice.
TD;LR: The roocase is a good case, with several nice features. However, there are several design flaws that could be a deal breaker for some.
TD;LR 2: Avoid roocase screen protectors!!

That is pretty accurate for what I've seen from mine too. No rotation is a minor issue. Only charging while the case is open is fairly minor. Not being able to fold the cover back on itself like a magazine is also another minor issue. Overall we're quite happy with it. The fit is just right. The sound already sucked on the TF700 and any case appears that it will make it worse. While the edges or the tablet are fairly well protected, the corners are still semi-exposed if you were to drop it and have it land on one. It is certainly more protection than the clip on type reviewed in the OP.
The case isn't perfect but I think that it is a very useful product and good quality for a low price. I did a lot of other searching and I haven't seen a quality case that handles all of these issues.
I haven't tried out the screen protectors, but now I'm afraid...
I did try out the rooCASE stylus and it seemed to work pretty well (my first stylus). It has a soft tip which is nice and can be use pretty much like a finger. But I did find it to be a lot more accurate when drawing or writing. It fits well into the case's stylus holder. There was a slight lag with drawing/painting on the screen after I did something, but I'm guessing that it pretty normal and likely dependent upon the program (neither I tried was tablet optimized).
Upon further inspection, I actually meant to order this http://goo.gl/1xSNI. I think my girlfriend is unhappy with the blurex case she got, so maybe I can Jedi Mind Trick her into keeping the roocase I bought and return hers so that I can order the Dual Axis case.
"Detachable Inner Sleeve for Handheld Operation" That would be the only real reason to be honest. It appears to be identical other than that.

My is the folio "clip on" the holds on with tabs and is not inserted into a leather sleave like enclosure. If you knew this and was just adding info on your Roo case, then disregard, I just wanted to make sure that you and others understaood these were different cases as there is no velcro or charging plug issues on mine.

Oh nooo, I don't care at all. You can post pictures of clowns and unicorns for all I care, I just wanted to point it out so that others didn't confuse the two cases. Mine has yet to have any real down sides and yours had the issue of plug cover and velcro or something like that.

this is the only style of case i use for all my tablets from 7" to 10.1" and ipads to android. and this is the only one i've for the infinity that has the crease on both sides to give more position options like my ipad and gt 8.9 cases. the acase i got for my 10.1 didn't have the crease on the back side for the slight angle prop.

First let me start this off with stating something very important. This case, while originally being marked for the TF700, is actually for the Prime. The seller, PC Micro Store is an awesome seller who stands behind their sales. When I contacted after purchasing letting them know the company says it won't fit, they immediately offered a refund and to send a return label. I said I'd wait until I got it and see how it fit and if it was usable.
So I got the case in today. It is titled "rooCASE Slim-Fit (Black) Folio Case Cover with Multi Adjustable Viewing Angles for ASUS Transformer Pad PRIME TF201" now after the change.

My exact same Roocase Slim-Fit Folio Case Cover for the TF201 just arrived from Amazon. It is a perfect fit for the TF700T right out of the package. Definitely good protection without being too bulky! Thanks for the tip on this!!
I've been looking through the reviews and I don't think I've seen this. The basic idea is that we are using the infinity to replace a laptop. But the keyboard dock is going to stay at home, while the main unit will be mobile. So, ideally, we would have a case that fits on the infinity and allows the infinity to attach to the dock without any stress (I read at least one of these reviews that the material in the cover caused some extra strain on the unit in attaching the dock).
So, the idea would be that, on the go, you grab the infinity out of the keyboard dock and you have a case that flips over the screen, but can also bend back around and be used as a stand.
When you come home, you attach the infinity to the keyboard dock (no strain) and can flip the screen cover part back over so it's out of the way and use the whole setup kind of like a netbook and charge it at the same time.
Does such an animal exist?
Also interested in this. I would imagine if a case simply didn't have any material on that bottom edge it would be perfect. And the cover could help keep the tablet + dock from tipping over.
Check out this. It's PU leather (i.e., fake) but it's cheap, is supposed to fit well and will allow attachment to the keyboard while in use. I just ordered one. It's supposed to be here by TUE. I'll post back if you like.

Definitely post back - but where did you see that it will allow attachment to the keyboard while in use? All I could find was "access to all controls and features".
I saw that one before, but without any reviews mentioning how the keyboard fits, I shied away... will be glad to hear your input on it!

Look at the design: the last attachment point is mid-tab. The entire docking surface is exposed and unencumbered. I saw a post/photo from someone using that case, and he just docked the tab and sat the keyboard on top of the cover portion which lies on the tabletop.
So, you can't enclose the assembled tab-keyboard combo in this case -- if that's what you're after, sorry if I misunderstood -- but I didn't usually carry my TF101 assembled anyway. I want something that will protect the tab during "regular," separated use, and let me connect the keyboard on the fly when I need to. This case does that.
BTW, I did see one folio-type case on Amazon that will allow the keyboard to be attached and still close the case over the whole shebang. But it added so much bulk to the tab that it defeated the purpose of not carrying an ultrabook.

No - we're on the same page - I only want to cover the tab. If honestly don't see much point in a case if you travel with the keyboard - it kind of acts like a cover anyway.
The bugaboo with all these is that they have to have some amount of material to hold the tab in the case, even when that area is "exposed". In a lot of them, that's the part that folds back over and makes the stand. When it's in that config, with no material to hold it, the tab will just slide out. And it's that little bit of material that's my concern because I don't want something that is basically going to be abnormally prying the tab away from the keyboard (just by being between the two) like the review of the minsuit reported.

If you look closely there's a black nylon strap that you can use to fold the cover of the case backwards, it keeps the case on the tablet only while leaving it free to dock. I think it works pretty well, the only problem is when folding the cover back it does cover the camera as well, but I suspect taking pictures will be rarer than docking to the keyboard.

I wanted to have a normal "protection" only as the iPad has but I cant find anyone that seems to fit good.
(tried the TF201 one in the store and it wasent a perfect fit, went out a little on the sides).
I actually dont need a "full body" cover but if nothing better exists I guess I have to since I want a stand also.

+1 . I am in same situation as you. Want a slim "Ipad-ish" cover with stand for typing.
Dunno about the Poetic case, but the Moko case will do the trick. I'd take pix, but I returned mine along with the tab after I noticed all the hardware issues with the latter. IMO, I'd rather have real leather, but this is good enough for the price.
