Improving Battery Life? - HTC Sensation

I'm using the Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2 ROM and my battery life, while better than what it was pre rooting, is still not that great. When I'm outside my house and using 3G, my battery drops by about 8-10% per hour. This is quite poor compared to some of the battery usage I see on this forum with various people posting their screenshots. What exactly can I do to improve battery life?

They're are many little tricks you can do to preserve battery but one thing that actually helped me the most was switching out my stock battery for a long lasting battery. Most of us have done this this is why your seeing the different results. I personally use Anker battery. It's given me a lot more battery time than stock ever had! This is really the best way to go.As for the tricks you can check your settings and turn down or off some of the things that are draining battery like led, turn down back light , keyboard feed back, check your sync and only sync what's necessary, make sure no logging is taking place , ect. Just look for what you might think is draining battery and adjust the settings accordingly. I hope this helps you out. It had helped me. Best wishes.

Well I am using the Anker battery for a pretty long time now and I still don't anywhere close to the battery performance that most others here seem to get. What 3.32 based kernel would you suggest which would best help save battery?

I like bricked ,but try a few out and see what you think. Bricked has proven to give me the best battery life personally. Best wishes.

And change back to the Sensation battery, it's actually better than the 3Ds. The Evo guys are using the Sensation battery and getting about 2hrs more in back to back tests. Be happy you don't have a 3D. When I had mine, I got 2hrs hard use with 4G and 4hrs with 3g. I get 8hrs with my Sensation overclocked.

Well for starters, your screen was on for almost 2 hours straight and your signal wasn't very good for most of that. I can assume that since your screen was on for 2 hours straight you must have been using it or the screen would not have been on that long. Streaming a 2 hour movie on a not so great connection will eat your battery up almost completely, especially if you are using full brightness. Android phones in general are battery eaters. My Sensation battery life is actually a lot better than my Vibrant was so I'm happy. Buy a couple batteries on Ebay for 15 bucks or use Juice Defender. I use my phone pretty heavily and can make it through the day. I can get over 24 hours using Juice Defender.
Did You wipe battery stats after change battery?
Also tell us which ROM and Kernel You use now. I'm sure that 3/4 ROM's here are useless. I have ROM from new leak and have 0 issues, also with battery.
I got two Anker 1900mAh batteries and they made a reasonable improvement to my use.
Typically with full sync and okish signal I got about 1h40m of screen on time with about 14 hours off charger.
With Anker under the same daily use its between 2h to 3h screen on in the same period.
Also that means I now have three batteries.
Sorry to say but having owned a Motorola Milestone, Galaxy S, Nexus S and now Sensation I can simply say that the battery life on Android is crap in general for heavy users.
My girl has an iPhone 3G and 4, the screen on time is often over 6 hours which I put down to intimate development of software and hardware.
I am choosing flexibility over longevity for now.

It's the kernel that's in the version of the ROM you have.
Flash 3.6.5 XE and it'll fix the problem.
Also having Wifi on and using it for 2 hours straight will drain your battery.

Did you calibrate or change radios recently? You could have a defective battery(s) or maybe the kernel is causing excessive drain.
I noticed this issue too when I was using Sense-based ROMs before I switched to a CM7-based rom.
Been off battery for 9 hours and 9 minutes with 77% left - I've never seen battery life this great and I don't think I see myself going back to Sense any time soon for my HTC Sensation 4G.
I was very disapointed with how fast the stock HTC Sensation battery drained even with normal use, just like you.
I took the advise from some here and got the Anker battery from Ebay for 10.00.
The best thing I ever did.
WOW! Did it improve the battery life on the Sensation.
Now I do not have to worry about the battery draining down fast on me.
With the Anker battery, my phone lasts all day and into the night .
Buy an anker battery

3.6.5 is using battery more effecient than 3.6.4 did thanks to a member who told me to install 3.6.5

What is best ROM for battery life?

Hello,
Anybody who flashed tons of different ROMs, can you comment which ROM provided best battery life for you. I'm not looking for absolute numbers but comparison of different ROMs as far as battery drain is corncerned for the same user.
Is less about the rom and more about the kernel and u/v u/c in my opinion...radio can have an effect too
Currently I am on coca-cola with dag's .3 kernel using the Gideon battery saver script.
I like using that on the quickwiz rom too

Ive been flashing a lot of roms the past week. I'm currently using [ROM][UXKJ2]Buoyancy v1.3.0||Rogers/AT&T||[1/25/12]
Deff the best so far. Very quick and it's been 11.5 hours and I'm at 57%! Kudos to jomeister15 and his team!
You are on ATT network and in LTE enabled zone?
Nexus had the best for me. I also hear Buoyancy is great as well. Sky ice cream sandwhich is what im running now but i charge my phone a lot. An update should be coming soon for battery life fixes on it though.
radio on or off?
I've been running TPC v3 on my 727R for about 2 weeks, with his oc startup script. My battery life wasn't so great until I decided to start turning off data while not using it. Made my battery life go through the roof.
From full charged, I was still at 69% 20 hours later. Mind you, I wasn't using it that much but even still.
Which leads me to wonder: are people actually turning radio off when not in use? Because with it on, I can't get anywhere near those numbers.
What will you be missing if background sync is off while screen is out? everything relying on push notifications will stop working or will be there some other noticeable changes?

I use skyICS and I get pretty good battery.
The pic is of my first battery cycle on skyICS, with pretty decent usage on it. The red little bit at the end is me trying to kill the battery. I had wifi on, data, sync, flashlight, and ran quadrant standard non-stop for about a 30 minutes.
I think a lot of it will depend on how you use the phone. As mentioned above, simply turning off data saves you a lot of power. Going into airplane mode saves even more. I lose almost nothing in airplane mode (I put it on at night). You can get an app in the market that will auto turn off settings for you if you're too lazy to do it yourself.

sensation battery drain

Hi, my girlfriend have an HTC sensation, running stock rom, no root, not unlocked boot loader.
But the battery suddenly drain? I can not see why. The strange thing is that the battery gets even worse, when we travel out of the country? I have changed the battery, but that didn't help much. Do anyone experienced this issue? Or have a fix. It's running 4.0.x firmware
maybe some apps that are running in the background causes that.if some apps are unnecessary uninstall them(if you want)
also if the brightness is too high try to lower it
Also try turning off data when not in use

I've checked if there is any running apps, and we live in good gsm areas. She is not a heavy data user, and turn it off when she is not using it. The strange thing is that, when we go to sleep, she can have 80%, but in the morning it's dead. She don't wanna root, so I can not install juice defender.
any suggestions?

Try a factory reset. Maybe you have to many apps installed that have auto-sync. If that doesn't help just buy a new battery
Hi there , I have a suggestion that does not require root . Purchase a extended life battery for her and get rid of the stock battery! I have done this and its made a huge difference in my battery life . My. Stock battery was so poor that I found myself having to recharge every three hours! I had enough! I broke down and purchased a extended life battery and it had made a world of difference to me! I use Anker battery but recently ordered a Mugen for even longer battery life. The Anker battery costs around 20 dollars and the mugen battery costs around 80 dollars. It just depends on what your wanting . The Anker had been a great battery but I'm looking to get a couple days without charging thus I bought the mugan for trips etc. In your case the Anker battery will serve your girlfriend well. Do all the tips given to you in above statements and purchase the Anker and she should not have any more trouble. You can purchase Anker on amazon.com. I really hope this helps and you won't regret buying it. It really works well. Best wishes to you both.

Juice defender does not require root. Some functions of the app maybe, but the standard "data off while screen off" works just fine without it.
I have found poor signal areas are a killer for battery too. you may have constant reception but if it keeps switching from 3g to 2g, this also runs battery down as it's constantly switching signal towers, looking for the 3g reception. Try switching to 2g or 3g networks only. This helps conserve battery in good service areas (in my experience anyway) and may help.
I would seriously recommend rooting though. It allows for a wider range of diagnostic measures and possible fixes to her issues. Also a variety of ROMS out for our devices offer far better battery life than the stock ROM as standard.

CM9 - Poor battery life

Hi, i'm on 9.1 Stable for a week now, coming from the Stock 3.33 Firmware. I'm experiencing very bad battery life (up to 10% per hour) although I don't use my phone very often.
Here two pics of my battery stats:
Pic 1
Pic 2
BetterBatteryStats says that I the phone is 6:24h of 7:38h in deep sleep. As you can see on the picture something keeps the phone awake from time to time even when the screen is off.
Screen Brightness is Auto, CPU Govenor on ondemand and max 1026MHZ. Mobile Data is off most of the time.
I've already read that many people have bad battery life but only 30min display time with that settings isn't acceptable!
Has anybody similar problems?
Does anyone know what I can do? I read that changing the kernel would help. Any idea if there is any that saves battery?
Greetings and thanks!
Check your sync settings, make sure they're not too oftenly synced.
Also, a lot of people have been having battery issues with google maps. Perhaps that may be the problem?
You should also check out Bricked Kernel for CM

Calibrating the battery worked for me. Fully charge, ten wipe battery stats, then fully drain your battery.

Bricked is at least part of the answer. When I was using CM9 Bricked kernel provided the fewest amount of wakelocks.
Though I felt Tamcore was a bit smoother.
Thanks for your answers. I will try the bricked kernel.
Do I have to wipe or reinstall something or can I just flash the kernel over CM9.1stable and it will work?

Wipe dalvik cache and flash
Hi have you thought of trying a different extended battery ? Anker and mugen make really great batteries . I was having serious battery issues and I tried everything, different Kernels, settings, battery saving applications, still I was having a issue until I switched My battery. Now I don't have any problems and can get about two days with really heavy use out of my battery. I went with mugenbattery 3800mah battery. It did make my phone thicker but for the battery life it was worth it for me. Most don't want a thicker phone and if that's there case try Anker battery. It also will provide extended battery life. Anker is a very good battery. I just needed more juice because I'm a really heavy user. You can get Anker online for about 10 dollars, where as mugen costs around 95 dollars. It just depends on your needs. But I do suggest a extended battery. It will make a big difference in your battery life. If you don't want to spend a lot then definitely go with Anker. It won't disappoint. Both are really good extended batteries and will make a big difference in your device. I know it solved my issues . I do wish you the best. If After changing and tweaking the kernel you are still having issues, do try a extended battery. I think it will help a lot. You can find Anker on Amazon. Com. Good luck to you and do consider the new battery. I think it will make a big difference. Also with better battery stats application you can see exactly which application is causing the most battery drain. Look in alarms and it should be in there. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

[Analysis] ROM-Battery results?

Hi,
Since all development thread are full of question related to battery. Can we try this?
1. Keep your screen on for 1 hr (or more?)
2. Keep wifi on
3. Keep radio/data on
4. Keep GPS off (or on?)
Report battery remaining, your ROM and version. Your battery stock/anker/other.
Then we average it out and see how it compares .
I know there is a thread already for posting battery results but it will be easier if everyone submit comparable battery results.
And me (or someone) analyze that to get some useful data.
Let me know what you guys think.
Screen on with Wi-Fi on, radio data on, gps. On. One hour with fully charged battery and I'm at 100% reading still. My rom is paranoid Android by Dragun Korr. My battery is a 3800mah, by Mugen. I have found having the big battery to really make a difference for Me. Hope this is helpful. Best wishes

Then maybe we need data for longer duration .
Hey, this is a great thing to want to try. A lot of variables come into play though such as apps installed. Consider: GPS on and not in use does not affect battery life. If an app is constantly polling for your location in the background then suddenly that's not the case anymore. This might be bets done from a fresh install perhaps with no GAPPS where applicable.
i don't know why but aosp-based (non-sense) roms always eat my battery faster than sense-based roms, even sense 4 roms work better.
Totally satisfied by Viper 1.4.1 battery life
