Hello,
I got my Desire S today and it has hboot 2.00.002 on it.
I want to know now, whats the best way to S-OFF my phone.
Using an XTC clip or going through the procedure of downgrading hboot and S-OFF with Revolutionary?
According to XTC clip I got some questions, will it fully s-off my phone so I can write every Radio or hboot on it?
EDIT: After a lot reading I recommend everybody to use the first option and wait till HTC drops the support of the Desire S

do more research and you'll be able to decide yourself.
My questions are based on my research and as I understand the XTC clip S-OFF are permanent and your can access and flash everything, am I right?
Both XTC and downgrade gives you full S-OFF
With XTC you can't go back to S-ON for warranty.
With downgrade method you can flash an eng hboot and get back to S-ON in case you need warranty
Tapatalked from a Desire S waiting for Kernel 3 sources. WAKE UP HTC!!!!!!
Ok thank you, I think I'll downgrade now, should I take the oldest RUU for my unbranded european Desire S or do I have to look on a specific Radio Version?
EDIT: Took the REALLY oldest and everything worked.

hi, i've been using my sensation for 8 months now. rooted it a while back ago with revolutionary.
im running Virtuous Inquisition v3.0.0 on my phone right now.
*** LOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.23.0000
RADIO-11.19.3504.2_2
i wonder if i should try to get back S-ON (though i AM afraid of bricking my device)
and send my phone to htc for waranty purpose (it has a minor charging problem, when i plug in the cable, i have to make sure its at a right angle for it to charge, like its a bit loose)
my questions are:
1. HBOOT - how can i know which is "root-able" (s-off/on-switchable)
i heard/read that newer hboot are not "unlockable" at the moment? which one is the lastest hboot, and what is the lastet-rootable one?
2. i didnt write my CID down when i changedit to superCID the day i rooted my phone. i only know i had a germany vodafone soft-branded phone. is there a way to find out what CID i had at the beginning?
3. how can i put my device back to the state before i rooted my phone, by that i mean, i want to be able to get official OTA updates. or will this involve the "how to get back s-on guide" which is a bit risky as i have read that guide a couple of times.
i hope some1 can give me some answer or hint on how to find these things out. i just need to be directed to the right direction, and ill be thankfull and happy to continue my search on my own.
another question
4. what happens when i run the RUU (i have RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed)
will this be a problem as i'm currently on hboot 1.23.0000? will it unroot my phone?
nevermind, im gonna try mikes ARHD and just updated my FW with Firmware from 3.24.401.1 & 3.25.401.101 RUU --- MD5 checksum: 4774D8928FB9D364F83CDDE16BAC4553 *PG58IMG.zip
so now i have
-Revolutionary-
S-OFF
HBOOT 1.27.1100
Radio 11.21.3504.13_2
i guess ill just put this thing on ebay and leave it at that.
i will still apreciate any help or explanations to my questions thou.. =)

If you flash an official ruu you will lose root. But you will remain soff. So you can install any custom ROM. Your root will depend on the rom only. as far as fast boot concern it may be locked during official ruu flashing. So will not be able to use some extended fast boot command like flashing radio from PC. But revolutionary hboot is unlocked. So no issue.

A regular search at Google brings always the same answer to me:
for the Desire S it seems like the writecid command does not work.
I would like to change my Desire S's CID to the HTC one, to receive OTA updates in future.
Does anyone have an update on this topic ?
Thanks,
britannia
hmm, no answer so far...
so I assume that there is still no way to do it except maybe a XTC clip
Is it possible to alter the CID to something different than 11111111 using a XTC clip ?
Does anyone have detailed information how a XTC clip works or blu prints ?
Is it possible to un-root and S-On the DS after "XTC clipping" it ?
I'm fine with a stock ROM with HTC CID (for OTA updates). No need for S-OFF and root in my case.
Regards,
britannia
Hi, I don't have detailed information about XTC Clip, but I had somewhere read, that is not possible S-ON after you use XTC Clip.
Same problem here m8,
with my Desire S s-off and rooted also weeks of searching and numerous attempts have failed. Its not looking so good to successfully install a different cid on the Desire s.
Can confirm xtc is one way process
See link in signature for xtc details

XTC clip is a hardware S-off... Just like ben_pyett said, it's a one way road... virtually anything done with an XTC Clip is permanent (unless you have access to a jtag - but let's not go there)
Hi! Glad to finally be posting on this board that has already helped me so much.
I’m hoping this can be a guide for people who have the same specific aim as me, the solution to which only seems to exist in scattered and uncertain form at present across various discussions. I think it would be good to put it in one place, as it took me a lot of time and searching to work all this out with confidence! Apologies if I was just thick and the info is actually easily available. There's also an important question at the end!
The aim: sim unlocked Desire S that is safe for selling - accepts OTA updates and hopefully safe for warranty.
Ideal solution: XTC Clip. I actually have one. But it wouldn’t work. I’m asking about that in the Raskal forum...
Second solution, confirmed working for me, but with one caveat:
Unlock with revolutionary.io. Now you have sim unlock! Yay! But your hboot is now “SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL HBOOT-6.98.1002”, which I understand may brick your phone if you try an OTA update. Boo. So we need to downgrade the hboot.
I used this nice succinct guide posted by foX2delta, here.
Now the odd thing for me was that I expected this to give me hboot 0.98. So when it didn’t I was VERY confused. What it gives you in fact is “SAGA PVT ENG S-OFF RL HBOOT-6.98.2000”. Note the two subtle differences to what you had before.
Now at this point I'm not sure whether the phone will accept OTA updates. Can anyone comment? To be safe we're going to install an RUU to give a normal hboot.
I went for a 2.3.3 RUU, so that I could test the OTA update. And sure enough it worked! And now I have a Desire S still sim unlocked running 2.3.5 and sense 3.0 and ready to accept the forthcoming 4.0 update if it ever arrives. Hboot is "SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL HBOOT-2.00.0002".
So the only final issue is the S-Off, and here's my question that I can't find an answer for: can we undo the S-Off and keep the sim unlock?
Cheers you knowledge wizards! And of course please correct me if I've committed any fallacies.
Hi!
Revolutionary will unlock SIM on Desire S?
Your s-off should be s-on if you ran the ruu. Unless.the xtc clip did actually work then you will be s-off.forever
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
If by Sim I unlock you mean network unlock then xtc does that but revolutionary doesn't and as started above cycle cannot be reversed.
What is your cid?
Sywepd form my DsereiS
I used revolutionary.io to S-OFF my Desire S and it is still sim locked...
Are you sure your XTC Clip didn't work?
Hi, ive just got a phone off ebay and trying to s-off it.
Problem is that when i go into the hboot it says:
**LOCKED**
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
Revolutionary tool says invaild key when i run it.
Any ideas how i can get S-OFF? Maybe the guy who had it before me has made it S-ON again to sell it? Any help would be much appreciated!
I just S-offed last week, and i am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff...i also was getting the invalid key. I did a SEARCH (lol) here and found out that the letters i was typing were wrong.
My solution: copy and paste the revolutionary beta key into notepad, then type the keys in notepad to confirm you are typing the correct letters
I found out that the "I" is actually a lower case "L"
Which hboot version? Anything over 1.18.0000 isn't supported
Sent from my HTC Sensation with Beats Audio using xda premium
I read that this could be the after-math of someone unlocking through htc dev and not doing it correctly. So I have to back track to go forward.
It's not got ICS yet, still running GB. There is a system update waiting but I want to root first before any update.
Hboot 1.18.000
I did try the copy and paste. The one major issue here is that on the hboot screen it says **LOCKED** at the top shortly followed by S-ON which tells me that somethings very different.
1.18 has a "locked" status on top. That's normal. Revolutionary is compatible with 1.18, but it's possible that it was rooted with htcdev...
There is no "unlocked" 1.18 hboot. That's why rev will downgrade you to 1.17.
I'm running 1.18 with s-off by use of revolutionary and then reflashing the 1.18 hboot I extracted from 1.50.531.1ruu. It shows "locked" at the top as it did to begin with...
Maybe try flashing the ruu and trying revolutionary again...

Unlock bootloader, S-Off and rooting are 3 different things.
HtcDev unlock bootloader but it doesn't neither s-off nor root the device.
To prevent "headhaches" is better follow these steps:
1) Unlock bootloader through HtcDev (then it will show **unlocked** on top but still S-On with 1.18 Hboot)
2) S-Off by revolutionary (don't remember if it downgrade Hboot to 1.17 but I think it does).
3) Install a custom recovery.
4) Root the device
Hope it helps.
COMPLETELY ignore the advice to unlocking on HTCDev - you're letting HTC know you're rooting your phone. ONLY use Revolutionary to get true S-OFF
To the OP: HBOOT 1.18.0000 WILL say Locked at the top. This is 100% normal and HTC brought it in with the 1.18.0000 HBOOT. S-ON is also normal so what you're looking at is designed that way and is how my phone arrived when I first got it
I think you should try get the beta key back or make sure paste it to get correct keys. I think the ***Locked*** won't be problem. Revolutionary will unlocked it. If you got error during root process you may want try Taco Root method during Revolutionary process.
Thanks for your help guys!
It was a very stupid mistake on my part not copying the key from revolutionary over correctly. I was entering O's instead of 0's (zeros). Notepad was the saving grace after 3 hours of reading that showed me the correct key and stopped me from trying other methods and maybe screwing up the process.
I'd never seen a **Locked** with S-ON hboot screen before and not knowing what a person has done before you on a phone when buying off ebay can lead you into unknown territory.
S-Offed and running some Sense 4 now. Beautiful! The wife is pleased! Wouldn't mind some Sense 4 on my Gnex now - Never thought i'd say that!
Thanks all for your help!
I'm selling my Nexus to get the One X...not long now
I'm htcdev unlocked, now is it better to downgrade and s-off myself or spend the £14.99 and have it done by xtcclip. I know there is a fair mix of both methods in this forum. What are the pros/cons of each.
Are you sure xtc works on latest bootloader? If not you'll have to downgrade anyway
Sywepd form my DsereiS
Know very little about xtcclip and can't seem to find that much about what it does or how, hence the question.Sorry if it's already in a topic it seems it appears as a lot of answers but can't seem to find a clear topic on the subject.
XTC Clip:
Pros:
forever S-Off, clear SIMLOCK etc, Super CID
Cons:
no OTA's since you have super CID, never ever S-On again, no of warranty anymore
I have an XTC Clip here but have decided that I'll take the downgrad way with revolutionary.io .
Then I had the 7.xx Bootloader, installed CWM Recovery and downgraded it to ENG 2.00.2002 Bootloader.
Everything works fine for me that way.
Ok, last one. If I downgrade will I be able to use existing nandroid backups created or will I have to ditch them
sent from the thing I stab with my finger when I get two minutes
You will only be S-OFF and Super CID, so yes you can use them.
Well I've been considering it as it would also give me SIM free I think. I'm due for upgrade on December and would make it more saleable. So thinking doing the downgrade to enable the clip. Wasn't sure the backup would need the same hboot
sent from the thing I stab with my finger when I get two minutes
That depends on the ROM
if not you can downgrad hboot and flash an ENG hboot 2.00.2002
I've done this after S-OFF'ing with revolutionary as I would keep the CID since im on a HTC CID with no branding.
mmHg intention was to flash the eng hboot, also the new radio
sent from the thing I stab with my finger when I get two minutes
Then you should be able to use you old backups again.
Because you have your old partition layout again.
