[Q] How do I get rid of gallery wakelocks? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've been experiencing wakelocks for a while now and haven't been able to get rid of it. I used CPU spy to see how much time my CPU would spend in wakelock which is almost 100%. Using GSam Battery I was able to pinpoint that the gallery was keeping my phone in wakelock. Each time I reboot or kill gallery it goes into Deep Sleep for a while until the gallery processes spawns again.
I'm using SKY ICS 4.2F6R2 (UCLF6 based) and the UCLF6 radio. I have tried formatting system+factory reset via TWRP and reinstalling the ROM from scratch several times but with no luck.
What else can I try and does anyone know why this happens?

There's a chance you have a corrupt image or something on your device that's keeping your gallery process active. You can backup everything and wipe your internal and external sd cards. Start with your external because it's easier to restore.
Also before all this try deleting the gallery cache from applications in settings.

Install quickpic to use as default image viewer, then freeze gallery with titanium backup. Problem solved.

This. I've found that for almost every Google built-in, there's an equivalent (and often better) app out there that won't cause wakelock headaches down the line. The less unfrozen Google bloat, the better imo.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up freezing gallery and installing quickpic. I tried deleting all my pictures (and lost all of them, ironically the hard drive I backed them up to crashed right after copying them over), this didn't help though. Even though I don't like freezing google apps myself I guess this is the next best thing until we get a new base (JB maybe??).

Just Pictures is my alternate Gallery App .... supports web albums and Facebook, tumblr, etc.... nice free app...

Btw, just with this change (freezing gallery and installing quickpic), my battery life has gone from 17-18h to way over 24h and that's while using Pandora for 4-5 straight.:victory:

How to recover from aggressive bloatware

Deleting Tmobile myaccount will cause your phone to go into infinite force closes making your phone unusable. If this happens, remove your SD card and SIM card, than reboot. After rebooting you will see your bloatware has returned and your phone will be back to normal. Using titanium backup, however, and "freezing" the app causes no problems and at least stops the background services from running. Deleting Telenav GPS navigator will NOT effect your phone's gps as one thread in general states, and freezing the "backup" system app which runs the tmobile contacts syncing account in titanium backup is good to do a well. Both of these apps leave 2 constant background services running.

Kind of a live and learn thing?
MyAccount is actually a nice app to have. Provides quick access to your account information as opposed to accessing via the web. not sure why you would want to remove it anyhow it's not really bloatware as much as it is a functional app design for tmobile customers.
Tmobile TV is another story.
Your right to a degree
its all depending on the person....I mean I personally never worry about my minute usage so i dont need to constantly check, so for me its useless, and if i really wanted to access my account id just go on my comp.... anyways like i said its all opinion
I deleted my account and just held the power button to reboot. No issues with it coming back and no more my account.

Of course, same as if you deleted Wifi Calling. That's why I hold down power until the phone reboots and then it doesn't force close anymore.
Why delete those? Especially MyAccount, provides useful information for sure!
I deleted My Account 1.0 and now have FC Issues, HELP!
I was trying to get rid of "My Account", AKA T-Mobile My Acount, to keep it from constantantly running in the background, but actually deleted "My Account 1.0", nad not the "My Account 4.?" with Titanium Pro... I tried to freeze them both but the program kept appearing in my task list, so I deleted the My Account 1.0 entry.
Soon as I did, I got a buzz... buzz buzz buzz... the buzzes of death... I now get force closes when ending a phone call, when trying to read SMS, and when trying to view my call log.
This is killing me, and I have no idea how to fix it...
Any experts out there, please help!

Never mind, I had frozen Logsprovider...
I've Been able to do the following with no ill effects so far :
Uninstalled via TitaniumBackup
=======================
AppToHome
GoGo
Y! Finance Clock
ThinkFree Office
TeleNav GPS Navigator
T-Mobil TV
Slacker
Media Hub
Kindle
Inception
DriveSmart
DriveSmart System
doubleTwist
DeskHome
CarHome
Buddies now
All Share
Air Sync
Frozen via TitaniumBackup
============================
Audio PostCard
Backup
Days
Memo
MiniDiary
Video Chat
WiFi Calling -- dosn't really work tbh
Write and go
--
Apparently freezing the "Wifi Calling" app dosn't actually work for me, even after rebooting.
Orionsmart, if you remove DriveSmart, does it remove the link for it inside the settings menu?
EDIT: I just went ahead and removed it, was tired of it running constantly without even using it, and the menu item remains. Small price to pay I suppose.

If I backup TeleNAV GPS with Titanium Backup, and then delete it, how can I restore it? I want to have as many MB free in Storage since the reason why I bought the phone was to access the Market and install lots of useful apps
Titanium backup created two files: com.telenav.app.android.telenav-20110314-174328.properties
com.telenav.app.android.telenav-20110314-174328.tar.gz
The tar.gz file has this inside:
\data\com.telenav.app.android.telenav\
inside I see 4 folders:
.\databases
.\files
.\lib
.\shared_prefs
What should I do now if I want to restore the Bloatware?
The custom Odin tar file that krylon posted works great includes root, and already has bloat removed. After I got it flashed on my phone there is a huge difference much smoother and faster than original stock.

Why would you want to do that ?
on the other hand, i think there is a stock software file floating around the forums somewhere..
If you want to replace something and you are rooted. Buy root explorer from the market and get your hands on the. Apk (for this phone) and really install the apps you want. Otherwise if you root first then make a back up of apps with titanium backup from the market, you can then also select the ones you want and either delete or freeze the ones you don't want to keep.

Best Way to Reinstall Apps after Flashing

I know there are a lot of posts on how to restore apps after flashing a new ROM. I have only done this twice so far and both times I used Titanium Pro to restore the apps and data. However each time I have had a number of apps that didn't work or didn't work correctly until I uninstalled and then reinstalled them. If I let the Play Store reinstall my apps (and side load the ones not in the store) I shouldn't have this problem. I was wondering if anyone could comment on how long that approach would take and what issues I may run into doing it that way. I don't really need to reinstall the data for many apps and I have those settings, etc. (like Nova Launcher and Elixir) backed up where the program can reload them after I install it.
Thanks for any experiences you can share and any advice you can provide.

Try gobackup not the pro version, just the free one before it was tooken down from the play store. I believe you can Google search the apk.

It can be pretty quick or it can take seemingly forever depending on the number of apps you have. I have a little 130 and it takes about 2 hours, on a constant 12mbps (1.3-6MBps) connection.
I had a problem when I first used Tibu with Maildroid being crazy as hell until I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and set it back up. I was also having the same problem when I restored a CWM backup. I went and deleted every backup I had made in Tibu and all my nandroids and tried backing the apps up again and it worked for about 3 flashes and then Maildroid was going crazy again. I finally just Odin'ed back to stock cause I was having a few other issues, GPS & NFC, and once I went back to stock VRALG7 and fully wiped everything and rerooted, flashed recovery, and unlocked I haven't had a problem with anything since. The only thing I have changed is my recovery, went to TWRP, and everything is smooth sailing. I had been using CWM touch, it was the latest version that I was on before Odin'ing, and I really think there is some kind of issue with CWM not backing up right because I had tons of issues and even when restoring to the stock ROM my phone came out of the box on I couldn't get GPS or NFC to work.
But if you don't have many apps you could let the Play store restore you apps, I never used Tibu until this phone and was really skeptical of it cause of the corrupted Maildroid problems I was having but this is hands down one of the best apps I own. Also I'm pretty sure you can use ROM Manager to backup your apps and restore them.
If I were you I would wipe the Tibu backup folder, after you had completely re-downloaded and installed your apps from the market, and then back them up again and see if that worked. Also my Maps backup never ever works, I have to re-download it every time.
There is also MyBackup Pro, I used it before this phone, but its not great in the GS3. It takes about 45 minutes to back up my apps and it freezes constantly, never had this problem with it until this phone though.
You could also try using Tibu's flashable zip creator that was just added. It makes a flashable zip of you app backup folder so you still want to redo all your apps to make sure that it just isn't a once in a lifetime bug that cause a couple of your apps to be corrupted.

Best way I have found is to use AppMonster Pro.
That app allows you to make an "old style backup" which saves the APK from every app you have installed.
That way, after you flash a rom, you can click the APKs and do a true clean install of every app which is FAR more dependable than a TIBU restore. Although I have TIBU Pro, I rarely use it anymore.
Thanks everyone. All the info is much appreciated.

If you actually look in the Tibu folder it saves all of apps as APK's also and you can choose to back up your apps without the app data. The way I've always always understood it is that you can do a true clean install with Tibu too. Now I may be wrong with this but that's just the way I've understood it.

I just use Titanium Backup.
I'm going to give TiBu a try first since I think it will be the quickest way to do this. I also did a backup using AppMonster. If I run into issues with TiBu I'll start over again and try AppMonster. All I need now is a block of time to do the update. First Thanksgiving, then taking my grandson to see the train display at the Botanical Gardens, today out with both daughters (separately) helping with their Christmas shopping and doing some of our own. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a free block of time.
I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again.
I've made the switch to ROM toolbox. The free version let's me batch install apps just no data which I prefer anyways. Then I don't have to click for every app.
Sent from my SGS3 running Eclipse 2.1
I finally got time to update to Clean ROM 5.0 and it went fairly well. I used TiBu but had a few apps that had to be reinstalled so I used the AppMonster backup apk's and everything went well. Restoring the data via TiBu went well for all of my apps that need it done except for Red Laser which lost all the loyalty card info. Not a big deal as its easy to rescan the cards.
Thanks again for all the advice and info.
Maybe i'm just a noob but i dont understand how these backup apps work. I've backed up my apps then rom'd my phone but can't get my apps back cause the back up app isn't there anymore... Is it in the cwm recovery ? Confused
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Depends on the backup app you use. In general, you can install the backup app from Play Store and then you should be able to use it to restore your backed up apps. If you use a backup app the saves your apps as apk files, just install them from the apk. You can also install the apps from the Play Store again like you did originally.
Hope this helps.
I have been using TiBu for a long time and it works great and saves a huge amount of time. Sometimes I also get an app acting wacky after a flash. Just use it and if you have a problem with an app just go to settings and clear data for the specific app. It will save a lot of time doing it that way!!
Is there any issues with restoring User Apps & Data that were backed up under an ICS ROM, onto a flashed JellyBean ROM? I wouldn't think so, but wanted to ask. I know system apps & data would be bad, but not sure about user apps.

Try this. Make a Nandroid. If you're flashing a ROM that uses the same version of Android, just restore data. When flashing nightlies I learned, that all you have to do is WIPE, flash your ROM, then do an advanced restore of data only (No TiBU, you do this before you leave recovery). Now everything is there, nice and clean, homescreen, apps, setup, and even your alarm clock! Takes 5 minutes.
I'm stilla newb so if you're like "duh," don't flame me!:laugh:

Same here and I've never had any problems with it. I was restoring apps+data but I started having problems after I became a flashaholic so now I only restore apps and spend the extra time relogging in/setting up my apps. Yes it takes longer but it'll save you from problems in the long run.

WHAT is going on? Gallery no pics, Google contacts disappear.... Internal corruption

Long story short, I've flashed a bunch of Roms. And every Rom I try I get two errors constantly ::
1) Gallery displays 0 pics/videos then FC! (I have plenty of pics and videos
2) My contacts disappear and I only see numbers,
Both of these issues persist EVEN AFTER a full complete wipe of everything, internal and full wipes..... I even started from scratch!!
WTF, I am beyond pissed off! Running Greenify, Amplify and Xposed with Sultans Unofficial CyanogenMod, stock everything
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Anyone? I've removed Greenify to see if that's the issue, and it has still happened. Removed Amplify and testing now
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
So it appears something in Greenify using Real Pacs profile was causing my Gallery crashing errors, Download & Media storage were Greenfield.
However, the contacts still keep showing up as "numbers" & not names,..... That is until Resync from Google. Any idea what could be causing this issue?
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Remove Media storage from Greenify and clear data of gallery app. That can help with the gallery issue.
Regarding contacts - Did you import these or restore system app data using Titanium?

Stock gallery never loads images, dependencies? - SOLVED

Not sure what's going on, I have it debloated and a lot of apps frozen
I've tried clearing data and cache and force stopping it, same for the media service
Tried using es file explorer and using gallery to open an image and it opens it, no edit/crop/delete functions appear after it opens
Not sure what else to try or if it's depending on something that I possibly froze and I'm pretty stumped
p.s it's a new phone and I never tried gallery before modding
Found another thread and had a wbmc service or something frozen

Battery drain after full wipe

Hello there.
I wiped my phone and rooted it, flashed magisk and downloaded some apps to help me improve my battery life but nothing help.
What can i do to improve it?
The apps i use with root:
Greenify
Naptime
Premission ruler
What else can i do?
During the day at work my battery went down very fast, which did not happen to me for a long time.
It should be noted that the phone has been completely wiped and rooted on the way, but it seems that despite the root (I downloaded apps like greenify and naptime) the battery still continues to drain.
Note that screen usage took a total of one hour and 50 minutes and the battery dropped by 60 percent from 0 usage.
The radio worked for about an hour in the background with the screen off, which in the past would not eat battery at all.
What annoys me here especially is the Google Play services, but I tried to delete data and it still goes on.
any help please?
Help?
