What radio is being used in Cyanogenmod 9? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the life of me I couldn't manage to find it.
My signal is perfect on cm9, getting "H" connectivity...
when I'm on 4.1.1 Factory Stock Image I get reception problems, tried many radios... almost all failed, none delivered the promising "H"
Can anyone check on his cm9 device and tell me what kind of radio (baseband) is being used?
Thanks!

CM 9 does not change your phone's radio, so whatever was on the device when you last flashed your radio, is still there. You can check your current baseband under the system settings menu ... "about phone".

[Q] KF1 radio with telus ?

Well, here goes.
I've been reading alot for quite a while, and learning everything I could around this place. Thanks to tall who contribute.
I'm running NScollab, 1.0.42, with matrix 8.0 kernel.
Currently on the XXKB3 baseband.
Following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
I tried flashing the new KF1 radio for the nexus S. No luck. Either is doesn't flash at all ( status 6 error ) or when it does ( the signed version can be flashed in CWM ) no signal whatsoever. I've tried everything, changing the band, ( *#*#4636#*#* ) rebooting 45 times, dalvik wipe, changing type of radio, all guides, searched google, this website ( for a whole week ).
Nothing came up.
I'm posting, because this is pretty much last resort. I actually tried the KF1 radio on Miui, devnull, oxygen, and NScollab.
Telus users out there, what is your baseband ? What radio gives you the best signal and performance ? I know koodo switched to KF1, but I can't get it to work on my NS.
Any help is appreciated !
still noone ?
Darn.

I use KB3 for koodo(telus). I get signal... and it works.
I'm curious as to whether KF1 would be a better radio for us, or if it even works for Telus/Koodo. Anybody know?

I have a Telus Nexus S in BC and I just installed an OTA update to 2.3.6 / GRK39F / I9020AUCKF1 and the KF1 radio seems to be working fine. I've been able to call around and MMS without issues so far. (about 2 hrs) Not enough time spent with it to tell you if it gets better reception or not...
I acutally installed the OTA pacakage in order to go back to stock as I was getting sick of the Search Bug that has been plaguing my phone for ages and I was going to bring it back for warranty work, but it appears the flash of the radio to KF1 that was included in the package has resolved the Search Bug!
Sweet! So, I might stick with this for a bit to confirm it is gone and and if all is well, I guess there's no need to return the phone for service!
I have the same issue on koodo. Flashed ICS and I get reception with KF1 downtown but barely anything at home and it used to be great.
I'm running the UCKF1 radio on my telus NS, on cm9 + matrix 14.5. With my phone, it was impossible to flash the radio with CWM, it would flash, but could not get on the network. I had to use fastboot to flash the radio.
In my experience, XXKB3 and XXKD1 were definitely the fastest radios (no upload cap), but my connection was unstable, needing occasional reboots to reestablish connection if I ever lost reception. UCKF1 has been rock solid for me. (I'm in the Toronto area)
Also, for some reason I only started getting the search bug with ICS and XXKD1, but UCKF1 fixed that.

[Q] Desire S loosing signal

Hi all,
A week ago I bought a brand new Desire S and installed latest CM 7.1 stable following the guide on cyanogemod Desire S Wiki using revolutionary 0.4pre4. Everything was smooth and nice, I flashed ROM and GAPPS and my phone is working absolutely perfectly... but there is one little problem...
I am using Desire to fetch my mails from 2 mailservers using IMAP every 30 mins. But when the phone is switching between network modes i.e. HSDPA -> EDGE or EDGE -> GSM or any other way, I am disconnected from operator network for about 10 seconds until the network mode changes and everything is fine after that, until there is another network mode switch.
This happens for me about 10 times a day, so my phone sometimes appears that It is turned off for people who want to call me. Immediately after connecting to network I get a missed call SMS from my operator.
Interesting thing is, that when I disable email fetching, disable background data transfer and disable network data, the phone works fine without "blackouts".
Can someone help me with this problem? Maybe a radio issue?
Some more info:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Desire S
Recovery: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
HBOOT: 6.98.1002
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1
Radio: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
There is a newer radio-file online.
Maybe it's solving your problem.
I'm using MIUI and never had such problems, but i'm interested in flashing CM, so please report if the problem is gone by flashing newer radio!
Which radio version are you using?
Today I am testing 2G only switch so I am on EDGE data only.
Flashing radios is safe......, but a bad radio flash will instantly brick your phone.
You are using 1.47.401.4 radio, try updating to the 2.10.401.5 one.
Thanks for reply.
Shoud I flash something else with the radio?
I have 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 downloaded from cmw.22aaf3.com
Another I have is ftom OTA update zip file OTA_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8-1.47.401.4_release_225210fmxlt12djw1sr7y5.zip where is one radio.img in formware.zip file too - version unknown
So Which one to flash?
and if so, which method should I use to flash radio? The Android SDK one or the ZIP + Bootloader one?

Both will work, i'm using method by using bootloader normaly
Strangely I had the same issues as you on Endymion.
Then I updated radio to the latest.
It worked well.
Then I went to CM7. It was fine for a while, but now I'm losing signal with no 3G bars and its not switching automatically to 2G like it should when It has no 3G signal!
EDIT:
After really reading your post, I realise my issue is no way like yours! Yours seems really bad. Update your radio.

No, the cover is at its place where it should be. Somehow I did the trick and I am back online with 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03 on 2G only for now.
I read somwhere in the forum that ENG HBOOT is required for new radios... Are you sure I dont need to flash eng hboot it before new radio ??

in your area 3g is actually available?
may it helps to go outside, to find your net for the first time!
did you set an accesspoint for 3g?
may you have to set automatic settings, rather than 3g/2g-only?!

using same hboot as you, never had problems on flashing radio-files!
yes, in my area there is 3g, when I turn off 2g only switch there is a problem described in my first post, so i am on 2g for now just to keep phone connected to network.
main problem is when i am driving and the phone is switching network modes.
so I give 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 today another chance, try to flash if again.
but i am woried about stucking on HTC logo after flash :-( and brick it.

i already had the problem for several times, and i also pulled out the battery (you shouldn't do that)!
only had to boot into bootloader, start recovery, wipe all partitions, flash rom and was having fun again with my device
this thread could help you, if really stuck on HTC logo
For your real problem on loosing the signal, did you ever tried out using actual stock rom, or another custom one like MIUI?
i used MIUI from 2010-08 till yesterday, now trying out CM7.1 for some days
I have the same or a very similar problem. I have the stock rom.
I already had 3 different desire s motherboard's and 2 different display's.
The first Desire S i had, with android 2.3.3, had a excellent signal. Due some problems i had, the phone bricked and had to go to HTC to repair.
HTC replaced the motherboard and update the version of the android to 2.3.5 and ever since the signal caption, the signal switch was working very bad.
The phone went to a second repair because of this, new phone, and again with android 2.3.5. The problems persisted.
I also tested with different SIM cards, from different mobile operators.
So, my conclusion is either android 2.3.5 or this new versions of Desire S have problems with signal caption and signal switch.
So as you, i need some help with this issue!

But when I reboot to recovery it will flash the radio again I think.
i hate stock roms, and dont like MIUI design That is why I am using Cyanogen
Anyway if I use 2G only switch, the phone is stable as rock both calls and data transfer.
EDIT: OK, flashed 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 sucessfully, signal OK, I will see what happens whet metwork mode switches

give us more information about your device please, which radio you're using? Did they flash actual radion also?
@MyroLM:
report if the problem is still there or it's gone with flashing the rom
I am still testing new radio, but looks good Give me some days let you know...
Hi All,
I have a similar problem with the latest CM7.1 nightly builds (Reaper, jorgen2009). I never saw this with older CM7.1 versions, e.g. Nexx version, ICS, MIUI oder Endymion.
I have WLAN on and leave my house. Phone switches to 2G/3G..., so far so good. When I return home, The WLan sign in the status bar appears again, everything seems to be fine, but I have no connection. I get no data via WLan until I swicth WLan off and on again.
Radio is the latest from 2.10.401.5.
Best Regards
Wrapp
Had similar problems, upgrading to the latest radio helped. I got stuck on the HTC screen and I went through flashing RUU's and unlocking bootloaders back and forth... when the only thing that needs to be done is to wipe the cache.
Learned a lot about bootloaders though. But my warranty got void because i did the htcdev unlock... (Sorry for OT)

[Q] Nexus S major reception problems

Dear friends,
I am still new at this. A few weeks ago someone who told me they know how to flash roms would install a ics rom on my Nexus S (I9020A) for AT&T. However since then I have been having extremely bad reception issues. Now my phone might show full bars and signal, however sometimes when my friends call me I don't receive them, also vice-versa. Also my texts won't go through for a long time and sometimes fail, and lastly my 3g internet won't work at all or would be really slow until it connects.
I flashed my phone back to stock (I think.) and I also got a brand new sim card but the problem persists.
If anyone could please help me in describing what might be wrong and what should be done to correct this, please help me out.
Find out what radio you have ( about phone) and try a different one.
Make sure you only flash the radio for your device.
ICS wasn't released for your I9020A officially ... I would not let a friend touch my phone like this lol...
Now..As suggested , settings/about phone : see what version of stock rom and radio are you using now .. and report back
Some people have a debate on what radio is good with at&t and what not ....
Did you do a good clean up before flashing GB back to your phone ? i.e. format system / format boot , factory reset and so on ?
Android Version:
2.3.6
Baseband Version
109020AUCKF1

I did do a good clean up prior to flashing back to GB. Would you guys be able to recommend a good radio for me please? Perhaps a link to the thread with the radio. I live in Southern California.

I suggest you also try old basebands like KD and KB.
Different baseband versions work differently in different regions and reception areas.

Signal constantly dropping in specific location

Hi,
So I have recently swapped carriers, from Vodafone to Aldi mobile and since this I have been experiencing constant drop outs whenever I am at home,("No service" as shown in CM10.1) every other location away from my home suburb seems to be fine. It definitely isn't a fault with network coverage as I have put the Aldi sim into another (unrooted) android phone and signal was fine with no dropouts. So it definitely is my device.
The dropouts are lasting anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours. And when the signal is working, it is not weak and it will only last for a short period after which it will drop to no bars and then to "No service"
I have tried the following(in this order):
Toggling Airplane mode & Rebooting
Updating/flashing firmware to 3.33
Flashing the original Sense ROM (Not RUU, restored from a backup) (This is now the current ROM on the device)
Toggling Airplane mode & Rebooting (again)
Changing the preferred network (ie. to GSM only)
None of these have seemed to help.
What else can I try to resolve this issue? I was thinking to flash a different baseband but not sure which one. If anyone can figure out whats actually going on that would also be great too. I've included some additional information about the device below.
Thanks in advance!

I flashed the latest radio from the thread you linked me as well, also updating the RIL. The things I flashed were:
Radio: 11.76C.3504.00P_11.29A.3504.18_M (From OTA 3.33.401.55)
And the matching RIL which was: HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ
Still no success in solving the issue.Should I have tried an older radio? Or what else can I try?

I got the app, It showed that my RIL did not match the baseband (which is weird, as I followed what was on the other thread), anyways, it recommended I flash baseband: 11.76A which I did..I downloaded it from the thread you linked me..it was listed under: Italian OTA 3.33.401.6 h/t
..still no success :/
I think this radio is even worse..when I search for networks manually it says "error while searching for networks"..where as before with 11.76C it found vodafoneAU, Optus and sometimes Telstra (AldiMobile uses the telstra network) When telstra was available, attempting to connect would produce the following error: "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"

Yes I have tried that multiple times and it has not changed anything unfortunately.
However just after posing my last post about 'getrill' not working, I flashed an older radio with its respective RIL. And now everything seems to be working as it should be. I'm currently monitoring it to see if the signal drops, but so far it's looking good. I flashed the radio from the 3.32.1400.112 HTCCN OTA which is: 11.72.3504.00U_11.23.3504.08_M2
I then flashed the matched RIL: HTC-RIL 4.0.0024HMQ (getrill is also confirming that these are a match )
I will post back if things go bad again...but for now, thanks for all of your advice..it put me on the right track

It isn't perfect, as it doesn't get signal in some places of my house but it is a lot better now (as in no dropouts when it should be fine).I think the rest now must just be antenna strength problems and other interferences around the house because by doing a manual search for operators sometimes telstra is not found (before, when telstra was found for example in my room It would just not register on the network, but now it does) Places like my lounge struggle to show telstra as being found and that was an issue from before.
I'm happy for now, atleast it can last me until i get a new phone

"No Service" in LTE coverage after update to 5.01

I recently flashed from stock to 5.01 and since then I get the "No Service" notification when I am in certain LTE coverage areas but the service bar shows 4G almost full bars.
My mobile data setting is set to Global, and if I am in the settings page the "Mobile Data" tab shows "disconnected"
I used a nandroid after a few days to get back to my previous ROM and still had the same problem. So I used an RUU to reflash 4.4.4 stock, still same issue.
I'm no expert but I'm not new to this either. I've rooted and flashed custom rom's since EVO 4G came out.
I know I'm missing something, I just don't have enough technical experience to figure this out.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I'm in the same boat man. I flashed the 5.0.1, and I have not had LTE since. Just as lost as you are bud. Heres to finding a solution. :^)
I have found that since my post that sometimes if I turn airplane mode on for a minute, then back off I will get a connection, although not always and sometimes not for very long..

I have not, and I should still be on stock recovery from the RUU.
Is that function any different in the hboot vs. a custom recovery like twrp? Sorry I am not doubting you, just want to understand more about what certain processes like this are doing.
