Noob who needs help, just flashed to JB and am stuck! - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am brand new here and recently purchased a Verizon 3g Xoom. I just flashed the Stingray rom and gapps. I see the Jelly Bean unlock screen, has the camera, google and unlock icons. Problem is when I move it to the unlock icon it wont unlock. Goes to camera when moved to camera app and same woth google icon (though it wont work cause wifi isnt working) and also I have no home button icon. Anyone experienced this and can point me in the direction of what to do?
Thank you in advance,
Nick

Wipe & reflash. Which ROM did you flash & have you posted your question in that thread?
Swyped from my Verizon 4G Xoom running EOS3 nightlies using xda premium.

Thanks for responding. I flashed EOS-stingray-20120728-119 with gapps-jb-20120726-eos-signed. I wiped and reflash and still doing same thing. I tried posting in that section and it said I couldnt. I appreciate any help, this is crazy!

Try to reset. Hold power button with vol up for 30 sec or so...
Or if you have nandroid backup, boot into recovery, restore...

I tried that and still same thing. I tried recovery, restore and it says No files found. Should I go back to ICS stock (if I even can at this stage) or is there anything else to try? So close to the Jelly Bean I can taste it! Frustrating to see it at the Jelly Bean lock screen but won't unlock! Seems like there must be a simple step I missed. I unlocked it, rooted it, put Stingray and Gapps on sd card, installed from sd card and then stuck at lock screen. Did the wipes each time, but still stuck. All help is greatly appreciated!

I think figured it out. I don't have a sim card as I dont have a data plan. I just installed wingray instead of stingray and so far so good, on jelly now. Thanks for the help

i also did a soft reset removing the sdcard and sim this did nothing i attempted to use RSD lite 5.6 on my final attempt to flash a rom if i have read certain threads correct this may fix my issue but i am unsure as this is my 1st venture on xoom root so if this is the next step where could i find a stock SBF for my xoom ? I am not completly sure if this is the next step as i have only spent the last few hours reading from different sites i decided to finally post and see if i could get any leadway :good:
from what i have read this is not a brick as it would only load a blank screen in this case so im guessing that there is a manual way to readd any files and use recovery to fix my issue fingers cross i will wait for any and all feedback b4 trying anything thanks to all who have looked at this and also to those who will be venturing in to help me on this
have you tried getting into fast boot? do you have adb access? if you do you can push the stock files via adb

Root/Install ROM first time - I think I screwed up.

The basic deal is I got bored of the software and decided that I should root an install some custom ROMs on my Nexus S.
I used the One click method posted I believe in the general forum and everything went smoothly. I downloaded the latest AOKP and CM zips, put them onto my phones memory and went on with my day.
So today I began to put on the AOKP ROM and it got stuck at the initiating swagger screen. And was stuck there for a good 20minutes. I didn't know what to do, so I battery pulled.
I thought I had some backup saved from the day before, but that wasn't the case. So now I'm essentially stuck in thee boot menu for clockwork and my phone has been rendered useless. If any of you guys know what I should do, please tell, I'm extremely pissed off at myself for letting this happen.
I deleted the Cache partition and Dalvik thing when I was first getting ready to put on the ROM. I didn't to a factory wipe, so that might be an issue? I don't know. I've also tried plugging the phone into my computer, but because I cant turn on USB mass storage, I can't look through that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi,
If ur in the bootloader screen scroll down until u see recovery. Then press the power button.
From recovery scroll down to mounts and storage to connect to computer via USB.
From here u have a few options bjt i would just download another ROM and its gapps or a ROM that already contains them.
Just be careful to get the correct zips for ur type of phone
Good luck

Wow. Thanks a lot. Do you think I should do a factory reset before I install a new rom?
EDIT: Hey vidaljs, thanks for the help! I got the CM10 ROM up and running, apparently I was running some really old version! That USB mount thing really helped!!

No worries
Next thing u should do is make a backup of this working ROM so u can always go back to it in a pinch.
And always follow what the developers suggest in their thread since they created it.
But when I go to a new ROM, I always do a factory reset, wipe cache and wipe Dalvic.
If u haven't found it yet, use titanium backup for ur apps so its easier to apply them to ur newly flashed ROM. The free version is fine but I've heard that paid version has some extra useful benefits.
Good luck and happy flashing.

Hi guys,
Almost same stroy, I tried to Root & install Cyanomodgen 10 on my Nexus S, but boot isn't working quite well, and I'm stuck at a circling image preparing the launch.
Recovery isn't working I got stuck at the image with the robot and the back and the exclamation mark on top of it and like 5 minutes later it launch the cyanomodgen ring again - and can't get in download mode.
I pretty don't get what I should do.
Any idea?
I feel I lack some info on my problem, I'll create a fresh post for it
thanks

[Guide] How to fix roaming/wont activate problem after flashing 4.2.1 rom

***ONLY VERIZON GS3***
A lot of people have been having problems with flashing CM10.1 and the SlimBean 4.2.1 beta. This guide will tell you how to fix the data. At first it looks like you lost your IMEI, but you probably didn't. It is a simple fix.
What you will need:
Odin: http://samsung-updates.com/Odin307.zip
Stock Rom: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wjaifmod7d78lt0/stock.vzw_root66.tar
Instructions:
1. Go into Odin put the stock rom into the PDA part and make sure the check mark next to it is checked.
2. Boot into Download mode by hitting Volume Down + Power + Home
2. Make sure only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked under options (if not you can seriously mess up your phone).
3. Flash the stock rom using Odin.
4. Once it says pass in Odin take your phones battery out and boot into recovery by hitting Volume Up + Power + Home.
5. Hit wipe data/factory reset (your phone should restart)
6. Hit the bottom left then right then left then right then volume up to pass activation.
7 Then type *2767*3855# into the phone once you set it up (you shouldn't have to press call).
Now you phone should be fixed, and you should be able to root, unlock your boot loader and try again.
Tip:
When flashing SlimBean 4.2.1 beta 1 and CM10.1 use a dirty flash over a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom.
- Dirty flash is when you don't clear your data before you flash.
thanks
Trying this now, I have been working all day to fix this.
I first ran into problems yesterday, cm10 ran out of room, removed a bunch of stuff( my back ups). Did some flashing and reverting and such. Now i seem to be stuck in roam mode.
Questions: What is the point of step 5?
It just says to load into recovery then next step is once the phone is loaded.
There is no step 6.

Sorry I'll fix that I was in a rush to get this finished before work.
This works!
But if you are still interested in CM10.1 you can still flash it with data working!
I decided to go out on a limb and tried going from ICS (VRALG1_odex) rooted/unlocked (after using provision code and getting data back) to CM10.1. To my surprise I found I flashed fine and had data!
I highly suggest using this ROM (http://www.sundergaming.com/downloads/sch-i535/tw/VRALG1_Odex.zip) as it uses its own UI when flashing it from recovery and will keep both ROOT and UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER when installing.
My guess is the problem seems to lie somewhere between a tw rom 4.1.1 JB and cm10.1
Luckly I don't have to deal with this and everything rolled over perfectly for cm10.1
Wow, I wished you had posted this before I returned my phone to the store for a warranty replacement!
Would have saved me a few days of agony, flashing and re-flashing that's for sure. Thanks for sharing though! It's good to know there is a fix for this.
You don't have to do this. This happened to me. Flash cm10.1 without any g apps. This will take u past the activation screen. Go into settings and change mobile network settings to SIM and automatic. Reboot phone. Make sure you have data, phone, and sms. Boot into recovery and flash away. U should have everything back on whatever Rom u choose.

Sorry I posted this in general and android development because I wasn't sure witch one it was, and when I fixed that I forgot to fix it here but I did now.
I can confirm this worked for me!
But, I couldn't get passed the activation screen in order for me to dial the code to reset phone so what I had to do was tap on the bottom of the screen as follows= Tap Left -Tap Right- Tap Left- Tap Right- then Volume up to get out of activation screen then was I able to dial the code to reset my phone. Thank you for this guide op!!!!
i wish i would have seen this yesterday. after trying to flash CM10.1 and getting stuck in roaming for a day in a half, i had to return mine to Costco and get a new one.

not necessarily. I did this and I was stuck in roaming but all I had to do was go into wireless settings/mobile network settings and make sure my preferred network was set to LTE/CDMA
you can do all this while your phone is trying to activate.
Anyone have an idea for a better file hosting site?
Will this work on a US Cellular phone?
This site has no section for US Cellular.

No you have to get a file for your phone or else you could hard brick it.

Im not sure if the number will work either, it may just be a Verizon thing.
I tried flashing 4.2.1 ROM just to check it out before putting my phone back to stock for a replacement and it borked my network. I tried the method mentioned in the OP and it works great, thanks.
Thank you so much.....you saved my butt and now my phone is working again. Guess I should stop flashing a new rom every couple weeks.

[Q] Need Help!

Hi, I just tried flashing cyanogenmod on my us cellular galaxy s3, and I ran into a problem. I followed a great youtube tutorial on how to flash cyanogen, and everything went fine. the tutorial used goomanager, and was done only using the phone, no computer. I flashed the rom after backing everything up through titanium, and everything appeared to be working like it should. After the flash was complete, the cyanogen animation popped up on my screen, but as soon as it finished loading, two messages popped up: setup wizard has stopped and goo.apps has stopped. I would hit okay, but the two messages just kept popping up. I restored my stock rom, but id still like to flash cyanogen and I need to know what I need to do to prevent this from happening again and how to restart the flash process. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

before you flashed the rom did you wipe data and cache? you might also be on the nightly version, try looking for the stable version, and if its on 10.1 its on 10.1, theres nothing you can do but wait for it to become stable if it isent already.

Everything was wiped. what I think happened was when I backed everything up, I didn't set titanium to not restore my app data, causing a bootloop. I could be very wrong about that though. What I need to know is how to reflash it, as I have already tried to but when I do it brings up system recovery instead of reflashing. Is it because I already tried flashing it once? and if that's the case how do I start from scratch? Oh, and I did flash the stable version. it was 10.1.2

might want to try flashing a stock rom via odin cause it sounds like you have stock recovery now, i dont know if anyone will pick you up in the q&a section, since yours is us cellular i dont think they have a forum for that specific contractor just only t-mobile at&t and verizon would have one. you can ask them in their q&a but tell them your situation and that your on us cellular. good luck mate. if ya have any questions just ask right here.

[Q] I really need help, bricked tmobile GS4

Hi, I flashed CM 10.2 on my Galaxy S4, and I used titanium backup to restore all my apps, only apps I didn't choose was TouchWiz and the TouchWiz simpler one. And it said I needed to reboot my device for the changes to apply, so I did that. When I rebooted it said everything stopped working. Even the core thing. Screen went black. Then I took out the battery and when I tried to go to my custom recovery, it just skipped the recovery screen and booted into cm again and same thing happened. Everything just stopped working. Help please. Also I am able to get into download mode. I just don't know how to recover from this. I am running 4.3.1 cm nightly, well I was. I don't know if I could count it was 4.3 I am still really new and I just want to reset my phone so I can actually use it. I hope I did not hard brick it. I'm on the verge of crying.
I just really need some sort of hope. I don't want to spend 600$ again..
If you can get into download mode then restore from a stock rom file using ODIN.
