I have been trying with no success to connect my Tab to my Mac to transfer files... So far, nothing has worked. I have resorted to pulling the MicroSD card out, copying files over, and putting it back in. This does work but I'd like a way to use either the Kies software built into the device (the Kies for Mac just waits at the "Connecting" stage and freezes, nor does Kies over WiFi work). I have a Windows Netbook but because of its storage limitations I want to use my iMac which has all of my media.
Is there perhaps a 3rd party solution? I don't mind using an Android app to do what I want it to do.

I use Android File Transfer
android dot com/filetransfer
It's just for Mac and works great.
I couldn't get that to detect my Tablet. It just says no tablet is connected. Doesn't matter if I plug it in before I start android file transfer or after.

This is going to sound silly, but it has worked for me repeatedly. So I thought I'd risk ridicule and throw it out there... in case it helps someone else.
Short Version:
Installing the iTunes sync app DoubleTwist on both my phone and win7 64 pc solves usb cable connection problems. After installing it on both, Windows 7 64 has no trouble finding the "mass storage" drive (the ext sdcard).
Long Version:
I've been playing around with all the lag fixes, roms, and other mods for the past few days. Needless to say, I've often screwed things up and have needed to reflash my Captivate many times. After every repartition and "date" with Odin, I'd connect my phone to the pc via the usb cable hoping to transfer some adk files to the sdcard. Each time I would have problems. Each time I'd stumble around until it started to work.
I think I finally figured out what was solving the problem. I use an app called DoubleTwist to sync my iTunes music and playlists with my captivate. It consists of a program for the PC and a app for the phone. I think it loads drivers (or something) that allows the Captivate and Windows to see each other... something missing in the default setup. You don't even have to use it to sync music.
After each reflash to stock, I would not be able to connect in "mass storage" mode to the pc. I would then install the DoubleTwist app on the phone (it is already installed on the computer) and plug in the usb cable. Suddenly Windows could see the card and mounted it as my K: drive. Then DoubleTwist would auto-launch on my PC and start the process of syncing. I'd just close it immediately on the pc and continue with reloading all my apps, etc.
I don't know why this works, but it has worked for my consistently over the past few days. So if you're having the same kind of trouble, give it a try.
HTH YMMV
I don't know what to do about this sudden problem. I've had my transformer since early May with the dock. I've never had any trouble connecting to any computer via the usb cable until this past weekend. Now all of a sudden it won't even show as connected when the tablet is connected to the dock.
So I tried it directly connected to the tablet and it will connect and come up on the computer but most of the time it kicks out after a little bit or when loading the files in a folder it just gets stuck loading and will not move so I can't move files to it.
I know I can transfer files with things like dropbox, but I move files every day and don't feel like fighting with the transformer for a half hour every day to get files where I want them when under normal circumstances I can move them in seconds via usb.
I tried calling support but all I got was a bunch of BS about needing to install all the software from their site which I actually did and it didn't fix anything.
Both computers I normally use are Windows 7 64 bit machines.
Anyone run into a similar issue? Any ideas?
Thank you ahead of time.
Try enable USB debugging.
Go to Settings --> Applications --> Development --> Check box for USB Debugging.
There's fews options you can (Do a backup first) try:
1) Reset to factory settings.
2) Format your microSD.
3) Re-flash the ROM.
Besides there's many ways to transfer files from Asus pad to PC.
Wireless Transfer.
FTP Transfer.
Wireless or FTP.
OP, sorry to hear about the issue. In the instances where you are able to connect via USB, if you leave it alone (don't' touch it), then can it complete the transfer? Since the Transformer uses the same connector to charge and transfer, I'm just wondering if the connector is physically getting lose or something.
When I had the transformer, I usually use the micro-SD card to transfer files. But that's just me.

Not to criticize your idea or be a jerk...but what does that mean? I don't think 1) wireless transfer and 2)FTP transfer counts as two different methods of transfer. That's like calling USB and "drag-and-drop" two different ways of transferring stuff to devices. Wireless is wireless, whether you're using a FTP protocol or just downloading using the browser.
Similar Issue
I had a similar issue when (but before) I rooted my TF. My Windows 7 64-bit machines wouldn't notice my device unless debugging was enabled and then I couldn't "safely" disconnect the device unless I disabled debugging.
I'm not quite sure what the issue is there but that is how I connect and disconnect.
Thanks for the reply. USB debugging was already turned on so I tried without it. No luck. I'm on hold with support again. If nothing comes from it I guess I will need to reformat. I never rooted so I doubt it's a rom issue.
As I was typing they said to download and install the latest firmware. I've kept this thing up to date, but I guess it's worth a try.

I got it to work one time. Every other time it just gets stuck loading the content of the folder. If I try to add anything it just sits there as it seems to be waiting for it finish loading. It's just so weird as it has worked perfectly for two months now and then all of the sudden it stopped working. I would maybe understand if there was an update or something but nothing's changed on the tablet or the computers.
I have the same issue with my usb and EVERY device. It all started when I updated the usb drivers with the nvflash certificate. Now when I want to use a usb device or my on board card reader I have to uninstall the general usb driver in the windows device manager, and for new devices. Only then will it recognize whatever I may have conected.

oh the weird usb issues I've seen. Right now my system says that it doesn't have drivers for my vibrant and yet I can connect it and access it perfectly
Try format your microSD yet? Use SD Formatter 3.0.

With wireless (using Wifi File Explorer), you just enter the asus epad (ip address) on the browser to download/upload/etc... files from your asus pad.
With FTP, you will need install ftp client on your windows to access files on your device.

Windows XP and newer versions already have an FTP client - Windows Explorer.
I use the free "Software Data Cable" app. It creates the FTP server on your Transformer, and gives you the address to type into Windows Explorer.
It works great! You can transfer files using your PC, which is a lot easier than doing it on the Transformer.
I haven't used the USB connection since!
Thanks for the replies. I think this thing needs to be rma'd. I just did a factory reset and it's still having issues. I managed to get it connected only through a direct connection and it won't even let me create a folder. It's getting a little late to do it now so I'll call asus tomorrow morning and get it started.
My question is, what would you do in my situation?
My Xoom connected to my computer (HP Pavilion dv6000) (Windows Vista) once before in past times. It will not connect anymore, I have done everything possible that people have said to do. Still in the same situation.
I connected it to my mothers Toshiba Satellite U505-S2950 (Windows 7)after installing Moto software, and its working perfectly.
Should I re-install Windows/Re-set to default? I've tried everything, from installing drivers, to changing permissions, to installing adb, blah blah blah.
I just recently found DropBox which I am using now, until I can figure out exactly what to do with my HP.
Anyone? TBH: I don't want to use my moms laptop every time I want to transfer a movie to my Xoom, rather it be mine.
Appreciation is high.

So I guess you are using your original Xoom USB cable, and have tried different USB ports (like the ones on the back if you have a tower), you tried with debugging on and off, you've tried with the USB plugged into the Xoom 1st and then into the computer as well as the other way around...do you have Windows Media Player (9?) installed on your pc? It seems it needs it to connect....
Its not a solution to USB woes as I reckon I am in the same position with XP Windows machines, but an alternative.
Why not run a FTP Server on either your Laptop or your Xoom....
I doubt its as fast as USB transfer but may be quicker than Dropbox (definitely quicker for me in the UK with cruddy upload speeds !!!)
I use FTPServ on the PC and SwiFTP on the Xoom as the FTP Server - I just switch each one on when needed depending on which copy method I feel like using
I use Total Commander for the FTP Client on the Xoom.

Interesting idea...
This I suppose could be seen to be quite drastic, but it will fix 99.9% of all USB related issues across windows OS's
*** Read first before actioning ***
>Right click My computer and manage, you are using Vista? So will probably need to run as admin.
>Go to device management and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
>Ok delete the lot
>Yup delete the lot
What this means is that it should now prompt you to reinstall the drivers for any USB device plugged in to the PC, yes you may find that you have to unplug and replug in your keyboard and mouse to re-install the drivers for those devices. But it should also re-install the Motorola Xoom drivers also.
At the end of the days its quicker to try this than re-install Windows
Unfortunately not every USB Root Hub or Host controller displays what it actually is, some do but that's a case of right clicking each one to see what it is. If for example it states that its a mouse then perhaps don't delete that one but hopefully you get my drift.

Heimdall isn't seeing it. Android file transfer will open, but it'll tell me to restart my device. Odin won't detect it. Jodin won't detect it. I even borrowed a friend's PC to test it, and it didn't see it. What's the deal? Thanks!

It used to be that a mac would not see a GS3 unless android debugging was on. However somewhere along the way that work around seemed to break as well. I don't typically use my old mac laptop anymore, however the last time I plugged my GS3 into it I could not get it to mount as a camera, or as a media device.
I did not test using adb and thus adb push, however that would probably work if you properly configured adb on the mac. I actually used bluetooth file transfer to move data from the mac to the phone the last time as a work around...

Samsung Kies seemed to work to download the drivers. After that, it's smooth sailing with Heimdall.

hello. I've owned my g3 for a day and just trying to get everything organized. I'm having trouble trying to transfer my iTunes music to my g3. I've tried EVERYTHING. i dled the drivers, tried wondershare and android file transfer. it boils down to that my mac isn't recognizing an android device. I've enabled debugging mode and nothing. any suggestions?

here's a direct, and two round about ways of transferring your music: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-get-your-itunes-music-your-android
Just curious are you using the factory cable that came with it? Also have you tried restarting the phone while it's plugged into the Mac? My G3 wasn't recognized until I used the factory cable then the folder came up with HTC sync manager. Hope that helps
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
I have had this same problem before. What was causing it for me was Samsung kias program. I had to uninstall kias you can't just delete the app you have to run the uninstall.

yea I'm using the cable that came with the phone. i didn't try to restart the phone while plugged in but ill try that. every time i tried to use the android file transfer, i plugged in my phone and enable debugging and everything, the phone doesn't appear in the program. do i need to unmount/mount the phone or something?
iSyncr has worked extremely well for me. Recognizes the device right away and I can transfer my iTunes playlists directly.
i can't for the life of me get this to sync via usb... my usb works fine when charging and all. but when it comes to trying to sync or transfer files on my macbook, my device never shows up... so i had to sync my iTunes music via wifi... **sigh** i don't know why my device is never recognized
I hope someone has a solution. I followed these steps: Uninstalled Samsung Kies, downloaded the drivers from LG website, rebooted. Still, Android device file transfer did not recognize phone. Only way right now to connect phone with mac via USB is to use LG's own PCsuite. I have also an unlocked Moto X and Android device file transfer works flawless even before uninstalling Samsung Kies. I think there is something wrong with LG's drivers for the Mac.
Hey, I think it worth trying using a factory cable. Sometimes, it matters so much. And I gotta say some program are designed with too many features, and it could not be good on every one of them. So, you better try someting more professional, like TunesGo. It's specialized in transferring music from iTunes to Android phones, like LG G3.
