[Q] Changing network 'Hostname' - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 7" Galaxy Tab 2... I would like to have it show up on my router as a specific given name rather than the default Android_xxxxxxxxx. Is there any way to do this? I am not against rooting the device to gain file system access, but I haven't done it yet.

WLAN MAC Spoofing

I am running CM9 on a Samsung t679 and was attempting to make changes to the actual WLAN MACID via Terminal & Busybox. I have searched the forums for commands to make the changes however all I have tried have failed to make changes.
Does anyone know how to change/spoof the actual WLAN MACID to whatever I want? I have tried ifconfig and though it seems to execute the command without error in terminal/busybox when I check to see if the change has been made it only shows the actual MACID.
A permanent solution would be preferred however, a temp solution if ok to.
Are you sure you are running as root on the command line? Do 'id'.
Also, be sure to check what your wireless access point says what your MAC is. Do not trust the local device. It may say you are using one MAC, but actually still be using your hardware MAC address.
Ok. I was relying on the device to tell if the MACID was changed, I will check test again. Seems kinda dumb that if I was successful on changing the MACID that the device would show the original vs. current MACID.

[Q] Get list of all settings available (even custom ones)

Hello,
I am having issues with a rom for a mini pc (Rikomagic Mk802 II).
Last firmware seems fixing a lot of issues, but there's just one bug.
When some app needs to access to microphone, it changes a setting (Audio Output, available in settings app).
To make audio in&out work, I have to manually access to settings and set it back to the proper value.
I would like to write a simple service that observes this setting and sets it back to a specific value. It will need surely root permission.
This class can help me in finding the setting? http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.System.html
I can make a query on the contenturi selecting all the settings and obtaining the right one?
Any advice?
I managed using the content uri of Settings System class.... I have all the values, but putting a value is not triggering the configuration change.

[Q] D801 Spoof Bluetooth Address

So I am trying to get my D801 to work fully with my new car with GM's Intellilink system which seems to be white listing BT MAC addresses from what I can tell and I am trying to spoof my address so that it appears as a Galaxy S3 or S4. I think I have a MAC address from an older Samsung device, so if someone would like to provide the BT Address from their S3, S4, Note2 or Note3 that would be awesome. However that in and of itself is a moot point as I have tried to edit both the /data/misc/btaddr and /data/misc/bluedroid/bt_config.xml files and neither seem to hold/apply when I reboot. I have system mounted r/w and change the permissions to 755 before editing. I am running CM11 M6. Can anyone either suggest how I can spoof my BT address or any other ideas on how to get my phone to work with GM's system. I can get it to connect for phone only; no media, text or other.

Obtaining address... no full connection

Folks,
I just fired up my old samsung galaxy tablet 7. The first samsung galaxy tablet. Attempting to connect to my home wifi after bypassing the activation screen. It just says obtaining address, but never fully connects and there is no internet connection at all on the browser.
- It used to have a verizon data connection but then I deactivated it from my verizon plan
- I factory reset it twice already and the same thing.
- I simply want to use it on wifi.
- I tried other multiple wifi signals with the same result ( wifi signals with NO passwords also )
- Also the super user app is on there from when I tried to erase it. Maybe I messed up the bootload or..the load/OS, I can't remember how to flash the stock one...
I'm pretty technically advanced but this is bothering me a lot.
You might want to make sure you're in the right forum to get help. This is the tab 7.7 forum.
Also before you go posting there you'll need to look up what ROM you're using and find out which model tablet you've got so you post in the right place. People can't help you with the information you've provided so far.

Unable to view the access point name settings...

Hello guys,
after playing around and flashing some roms and rooted my note edge sm-n915f on lollipop 5.1.1 I noticed that I don't have data connection at all. Looking to the APN settings and found this: Unable to view the access point name settings. Access is restricted for the current user profile.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
