Looks like I'm going to Verizon or sprint. Anything but at&t they always drop calls.

The network will actually be stronger because of the takeover but what I do foresee is a lack of our current freedom that T-Mobile provides us with its data plan, AT&T clearly likes to limit its customers' options to 2GB and furthermore AT&T seems to going the way Verizon has and invested heavily in LTE technology as opposed to T-Mobile's HSPA+ which leaves us MT4G users dead in the water. I have heard that AT&T was seeking to expand its current HSPA+ network but I'm not exactly sure by how much and whether it runs off of the same bands as the T-Mobile HSPA+ network since their current 3G networks are on different bands.
I am interested to see if they will change their outlook on the way they handle business. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I MIGHT GO BACK TO SPRINT
Yeah this most likely means sprint for me.
So what's the best android phone coming out soon for Sprint?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Here is at&t trying to become a monopoly again. Most of us left at&t cause of the crap service now we are back. I can't believe it I rather have sprint actually buy T-Mobile then at&t.

buying a GSM phone in the future...
"Welcome to T-AT&T. How may we give it to you?"
Yes, I'd like an order of 5 year contracts and a side of carrier specific manufacturers. And a medium "iPhone to T-Mobile" to drink, with extra irony.
"Great and how did you want to pay, first-born or second mortgage?"
Wow you beat me to it lol

Ya it's gonna be sprint or verizon for me too. I want verizon but isnt it expensive? What do you guys think? Whats better?
Well, I am absolutely not in shock. I work corporate so i had knowledge of talks..but i was under impression we were doing spectrum agreements. Not this bullsh*t. I am NOT happy as I DO work for AT&T but...I know our strictness when it comes to Data Tiering and deposit structuring, etc.
On the network side it will be an advantage as far as coverage goes..but this is bad news for pricing and customer retention..
I anticipate a customer drop the 1st 3 months this is finalized.

Yeah, I'll be one of them. Almost 100% guarantee I'm moving to Sprint. I get a 25% discount with my company anyway. I got 12% with tmobile which was still cheaper but there's no way I'm staying with at&t.

lol @ everyone jumping to conclusions
calm down people...we have no idea the details of the merger...no idea how or when it will effect us...and for the most part people that already on tmobile cell and data plans will be grandfathered into whatever they have now
now...i will say im not happy with this news...i was an att customer for over 7 years way back when and i dont want to be one now...but being i just signed a 2 year contract again to get my new phones...im stuck...but im not going nuts yet until i hear what the merger means
EDIT: i just read that the deal still has to be approved by the gov't and will take up to a year for the merger to actually be fully implemented http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2382267,00.asp
Ironic that I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile so I could afford a fully featured phone with reasonable data rates...
Noooooooo FCC has to approve this hopefully it gets disapproved

For this to work, att can't have the imei of our phone. This leaves out the att version sold by best buy USA.
But what about the Canada version?

If you cant pay you cant play...... Seriously if you cant afford another 10 dollars you shouldn't have bought the phone.
Ok asshole. Instead, I'm a high schooler who wants a dev phone (relying on just the sdk emulator is a *****), and has to pay for it by myself because the nexus s isn't on Verizon, which is what my parents have. I can't sign a contract for another 10 months because I'm not old enough. And I can't afford to wait until the prime, because I have work I want to finish right now.
I'm not using the medianet plan. I'm using the $50 unlimited plan. They work the same, because at&t scans for imeis of known smartphones that they sell, like the atrix. I was just wondering if the canadian nexus s worked because recently best buy USA started selling an att version.
My nexus one never worked on it (only text and calls), so I was just wondering about the s. I can get a new white one for cheap.
Edit: but seriously dude why would you come to a random person and say stuff like that? I guarantee you wouldn't say it to my face. I bet you wont even call me and say it. Why do you think you're so much better because you can sign a contract and pay extra money?
AT&T Crack Down
AT&T will eventually find out that you are using an excessive amount of data throughput via "medianet". I know there was an iPhone 2g trick that would fool AT&T into allowing the $15 plan; however the access in which your smart phone "dials out" to AT&T would expose your phone as being a smart phone. I had an N1 on AT&T and they knew the IMEI number... I bought it via Google too. AT&T has their ways...
The only thing you could do is get the NS, w/ or w/o a 2yr plan and use the DataPlus plan for $15. (If cost is an issue.)
Cost isn't the issue, its the contract. I can't sign one. I'm on an incredible s right now from Canada on the dumb phone plan with ATT and I was just wondering if the nexus would know or not. They knew about my n1 but not my inc s.

I bought one prior to it releasing on AT&T (through Best Buy mobile) and it worked fine on the $10/$15 MEdiaNet Data plan. Decided to sell it as soon as AT&T released it as their own. I've been wondering the same question lately seeing it's one of the best android phones for the price (I can get a used Rogers one for about $300 unsubsidized.) I'm currently using the Desire Z from Bell Canada on the MEdiaNet plan.
P.S. Would you be willing to sell your Incredible S for around $300?
No thanks, I'm looking for closer to 400 on it. But OK cool the nexus worked

the unlocked t-mobile version isn't seen as a smartphone by at&t and the poor soul who had the nexus one that was spotted as a smartphone, if yours had the t-mobile frequencies then you were just unlucky.
if its built with t-mobile 3g then it will only connect to the EDGE network and i don't think at&t really cares.

Are you going to support him when he comes back and asks how to download paid apps for free? Where are you going to draw the line? Everyone should just stop. I figured it all out, I'm now on straight talk for unlimited everything + 2gb data for $45 a month, and it uses AT&T towers (mvno carrier). This plan worked better, but it requires a $100 fee to start up, but I paid the price because I can't sign contracts.
I wanted to use the medianet plan because I can't sign a contract while I'm under 18. I never wanted to get free apps, or do anything like that. I've been around XDA for a bit, dabbled in devving for a few phones, and I'm pretty sure some of my threads are even stickied. I know the rules etc.
All that said, PLENTY of threads are on XDA about taking advantage of the medianet loophole. It saves $20+ a month, and data is unlimited (not available to other plans) and unthrottled. Many people have no problem sticking it to a corporation that they hate like AT&T, and IMO unlimited data should be unlimited.. smartphone or not, so I had no problem with the idea of it.

I bought a rogers nexus s (french+english text on box) and they changed my data plan
I got a white i9020a (canadian?) and they changed my dataplan from medianet to a smartphone They can't have the IME number though.. and I tethered all the time on my Nokia E71 w/ medianet so I don't think it was data usage that tipped them off.
How could they know I got an i9020a Nexus S? Maybe a heuristic like if you download from Google's market servers you're on a smartphone?

Does anyone on the corporate level of ATT know if employees will be able to activate the One X on the indirect employee line as a new phone? If anyone knows, please PM me.

If you're talking about the employee rate plan then you can. There are no device restrictions.
Haven't needed to set up an ERP before though

Just buy the phone out right with the employee discount and add it to the ERP line. That's what I did.

I know you can spend the ungodly amount of money on it that no normal person has and start up a new line... My question is, is it one of the phones that employees can actually get as a "new.activation" if they don't already have ATT? My rep won't give me a straight answer.

That's what I'm taking about. It's called an ERP or employee rate plan. For me it's only 25bucks a month since I use google voice, I don't need a text plan but if you don't use google voice it should be around 50 with text unlimited.

I don't know how much has changed, but I used to be the manager of Radioshack, and then worked at BBYM for 3 years, and the ERP never had a contract, therefore never had a subsidized phone. You always had to supply your own phone, you just get the really good rate plan.
I also know that what I originally was told to do by my AT&T rep when I first started at Radioshack was this: set up a new contract, get the subsidized phone, and then after 6 months they can convert me over to the ERP.
Again, this was 5 years ago, so I'm sure somethings changed.

Yeah, lot has changed.. We can get certain phones for the contract price on the ERP line.. At least at The Shack. I know all about the plan, my question is regarding the phone itself.. I'm wondering if that is one of the phones an employee can get, on an employee line, at the discounted new contract price.
Edit: Found out today that it is available for ATT employees starting a new line of service.

Question about LTE on the ERP
I'm interested in getting a HTC One X and use it with my ERP. But I would like to know if anybody with an ERP has been able to activate this phone and use LTE. Right now I have unlimited data access at no additional cost and I use a smartphone. I understand when using some phones such as the iPhone one has to pay more for the data plan.
The only reason I'm concern about LTE is because I have noticed the reception (at least in my area) is better on LTE as supposed to HSPA+ which I currently use.
I would appreciate if anybody can let me know. I wouldn't want to buy the at&t version just for the LTE to find out I'm not able to use it.
Thank you,
---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 PM ----------
I do understand to be able to use LTE one has to have the right plan and a LTE SIM card. I know I would need to contact at&t customer care to take care of the SIM card number change. My question is, would doing this affect my current plan price? and would I be able to keep my unlimited data access at no additional cost?
Thank you again,

Yeah I was looking the other day at phones and just had to ask also. No go for the unlimited on new phone unless you pay full price.
But I knew the answer before I even went in.
I actually went to Verizon yesterday and talked to a guy about the plans.
Yes, Verizon will no longer have unlimited data available to anyone... no matter if you're "grandfathered" in.
However, check your monthly data usage... you might be surprised at how little of data you actually do use each month.
Turns out that when it comes time for me to change my plan, I'll be saving more money from month to month.
This does vary from person to person, though. It's definitely worth looking at.
You can also keep your unlimited data by not renewing your contract and buying a phone from offline somewhere or at full price from Verizon. Just call Verizon and tell them you need to make an ESN swap to active your new phone.

They won't get rid of it if you currently have the unlimited data plan unless you renew or sign a contract. Unlimited data is no longer an option with the service plan.
As long as you keep the Verizon service and do not sign into another contract, unlimited data will be with you.
If you want to upgrade to another phone, you'll have to buy it off of the internet from someone or walk into Verizon and pay full price for the phone only... without starting a new contract or plan.
This is the only way you can avoid losing unlimited data.

You will not be able to change from one phone to another online anymore either.
If you do, it will tell you that changing to this device requires a change to your plan.
If you want to change from the Thunderbolt to... let's say a Galaxy S3, you'll have to call Verizon and talk to a customer service rep. and they will have to change it for you. Just tell them you need to make an ESN swap from the Thunderbolt to the Galaxy S3 and they will have no problem what so ever in changing it over for you without making any changes to your "plan"... even if you don't technically have one and they will not force you into a contract either. *At least not yet* and let's hope it stays that way.
Verizon will not turn down paying customers.

There are instructions here on how to do it:
