So the Laptop I'm currently using is a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5825 *pic Sys Info at bottom* For some reason it's slower than slow! I mean for the specs, I don't expect much, but I expect it to be usable. On a scale of 1/10, it runs at a 4. It should be going at a 8!!!!! Anybody know any software, or ways I can increase the speed. Everything is maxed out. I'm considering an SSD. But there so expansive for the size. Here's some major issues I've found

Don't worry about an ssd, you could use more ram, though. Also, as antivirus goes,I would recommend Microsoft security essentials.

id recommend getting auslogics bootspeed its a all in one suite, its a 15 day trial but u can do some digging and get a cracked version . its a very good program ive been using it for years, if you get it try defraging the registry
EDIT: also windows vista has always been troublesome,any version of windows 7 would be fine for your pc, if possible get windows 7.
EDIT AGAIN: for anti virus get avast and register so youll get 1 year for free, and you can keep registering after it expires and they'll keep giving you 1 year for free. its what I use on my pc

I use all of them but Auslogisc. I'll check it out.
Also my RAM is maxed out at 2G's which is weird. Even with 2 slots it should be able to do 4 :T The processor allows for 4G's.
Then about Windows 7, I've tried cracked versions. But they never install. Only Unbuntu will work.

I personally haven't noticed a difference using ccleaner, but I still use it religiously every month. Nothin like cleaning out your registry and crap temp files in two clicks.

MS Security Essentials is about the ONLY AV software I've found that won't make the typical computer drag along like a snail and it seems to be just as effecient as any of the rest I've tried. And If you're running the original manufacturer's installation of Windows.....EVER....then you're running more hidden bloatware on there than Sprint & Tmobile together could intergrate into your system.
The best thing I've done for my 4GB Compac was to reinstall a clean version of Windows 7 & Uninstall everything BUT Windows SE for protection.
The bloatware & 3rd party AV is where your RAM Is going and probaby overtaxing your processor too.
I second Avast...after a clean install of Win 7. If possible, set your machine up to dual-boot into a Linux distro that you can use for Android hacking.

I get great performance from any reasonably well built vista computer with a clean retail install disc of windows 7. Any version. I use mse. Its virtually silent, yet effective, and seems to weigh nothing.

Hey Agent,
If you're running a 32 bit operating system, the maximum amount of RAM any computer/laptop will be able to handle is 3GB. You could get an extra 2GB stick to fill that slot on your laptop but it would only use 1GB. If you're running a 64 bit OS, then you can extend to 4GB and above. If your processor is saying it can handle 4GB, that would be if you had a 64 bit OS.
There are a bunch of free anti-virus tools out there. Avast, AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials are all well known, all of which get great reviews and work effectively. I use AVG on my computer but if I had a choice, I'd be using Security Essentials. It has a small file size compared to AVG and Avast and it scans for both malware and viruses. I was using it some time back but for some odd reason, it kept randomly crashing on me. I've never been able to find out why or replicate this problem on another computer so I think it has something to do with the hardware on mine.
Another piece of free software you might want to look into is Malwarebytes. It's a malware/spyware removal tool that can help pick up malicious software that anti-virus programs don't always find. Excellent tool, a must have for any computer user. Install, update, and do a full scan. This could take some time so make sure you pick a frame where you won't be needing your laptop.
I also echo the comments of others on this thread who have said to upgrade to Windows 7. I've fixed a lot of computers in my time and have found that even without a user messing up a computer on their own, Vista is buggy at best. Even if you have to pay for it, it's worth the investment. If you go this route, make sure you buy the full version and not just the upgrade so you can wipe your system clean and start from scratch. Just like rooting your phone, make sure you back up your data before doing this.
Ccleaner is also an effective tool but be careful using the registry cleaner. Make sure if you do use it, that you back up the registry entries you're deleting when prompted to do so. Although not often, I've had computers act up on me after using it and had to restore the backup. Inside Ccleaner, there's also a function in the Tools menu called "Startup". Anything that's checked is set to start with your computer, most of which aren't necessary and can dramatically slow your computer/laptop down. A simple way to tell what's starting with your computer/laptop would be to look at the number of icons on the bottom right side of your screen by the clock. If you have a bunch, you should disable what you can.
If you don't use Ccleaner, you can also get to your startup entries by typing MSCONFIG in the search or run functions in your Start menu.
Really, the only software's you need to start with your computer are your anti-virus and if you have one installed, the firewall. For laptops, there might also be a touchpad function that you'll still need as well, and if you use iTunes I've found that it's temperamental and won't work right when it doesn't start with your comp.
Long winded reply but when fixing a comp, it's best to provide as much info as possible instead of not enough. Hope this helps!
Edit: I just looked at your screenshot and you're running a 32 bit OS (x86) so the most RAM your laptop can handle is 3GB
Edit2: If and/or when you install a different anti-virus program, check the website of the current one you have for a removal tool. Removing anti-virus programs through the Programs and Features function will sometimes leave residual files and registry entries in your computer and when you install a new one, it could cause your computer to slow down.

Ive been around thousand of threads on xda-dev and couldn't find any official one for Anti-Virus. That's the main reason why I'm starting this new thread and also because Anti-Virus on Pocket PC are growing more and more. Actually I was using Symanter antivirus for handheld on my QTEK 2020i WM2003SE and that's true it is user friendly and worked fine, with virus definitions updates very ofently.

I have Symantec on my XP PC and it sucks big time (does the job for the most part, but very slow and heavy).

The only PPC virus I heard of was a harmless proof of concept that could make files display a pop-up message and did not reproduce.
If real viruses for WM systems are already out there (I know its a only matter of time) I would be interested in reading up on them to know what I am facing.
Also, anyone actually caught a virus on a WM machine and can share the experience?
Here are my first impressions:
1 - The Startup time of my Athen after a soft reset has increased by around 20 sec, this because Symantec is loading on the startup.
2 - I didn't noticed a slow down during normal utilization of the device, but it's really early before concluding on that point because I need to try different applications.
3 - When I first connected to the Internet via WiFi, even the connection were established, could not load the pages having an error "page not found"
but after 15sec everything is back to normal and connections to Internet was not a problem at all.
4 - I just suffered a Freeze but not sure it is due to Symantec, because i've been suffering frequent daily freezes on my Athena since I upgraded to WM6.
But the freeze came this time while using the Antivirus SW
5 - The package is composed by an AntiVirus, a Firewall, a Norton Secure Folders utility and a Norton Tools utility.
6 - Also note that after finish installing it, it force you to set a pin code that you will have to enter everytime you soft reset your device. I tried to disable it but it won't let you do it

As promised, here is my feedback on the tools provided in the package:
1 - Norton Antivirus
Very friendly and easy to use, from the menu u can access the options for the Antivirus, the Scans, the AntiSpam, Updates and Proxy config. You can also access the quanrantined files, the activity log and the virus definitions list. Manual scan and automatic scan can be performed.
2 - Norton Firewall
I didn't really understood how we use the Firewall function. Basically when you start it you have a tab showing the security level. It is have different security levels for World (the highest), Office, Home and Open Sapce Networks (the lowest). Also you can not modify them at all. You can access a second tab called Events by severity in last and a third tab "Event list" which show in details all the events that happened on your device, like soft reset, login success .... very weird as we can not reset this list, also we can not change any parameter in the Norton Firewall, everything is set by default
3 - Norton Secure Folders
from what I guessed, this utility allow you to choose folders on your device and set them as secure. I don't know what it does exactly but I think it should encrypt the data inside the folder so it's protected in case you have been attacked by a trojan who collects your data and send it to the pirate.
You click on menu->Add->then you choose from the list Device, Mircrodrive or Storage Card if you have one. Then you type the name of the folder you want to secure.
I did a test, I choosed Device, and kept the folder name blank and clicked on ok. It added the "secure folder" under device. if you try to remove it you will have this warning "Removing the secure folder will destroy all data in the folder. do you really want to remove it?"
4 - Norton Tools
It contains 2 utilities, GetUUID and Lock
GetUUID will display on the screen 2 series of digites
the first one don't know what it is and second one is your IMEI
I guess this info is needed when the final version is released and
you need to register the SW
Lock utility display the following message when u click on it
Encryption may take several minutes. Pls wait for the device to power off.
If you need to soft reset, pls wait until encryption is completed and the
device powers itself off.
I clicked on yes, so the device start encrypting something .... then the screen turned off. I turned it on using the power button and it displayed to me the password screen which I entered. then it displayed the message decrypting for about 30 sec, then I had my normal today screen ...
Im wondering if it does not encrypt/decrypt the secure folders you
already chosen using the "Norton Secure Folders" utility.
Ive wrote to Symantec asking them for a manual or user guide, hopefully they will reply.
I have rated this SW 3/5 on their site, mainly because it is not clear what all utilities does and because Firewall is set by default and noting can be changed.
Hope my feedback will be usefull, and I hope other users will bring to us their experiences with the different Anti-Virus SW they have used on their Pocket PCs.
Just as I suspected, no real viruses just a nice proof of concept that asks you if you want to try it:

This one seems like it could actually be trouble, if:
a) you leave in Russia
b) you are stupid enough to believe you can get WAP pages through SMS and that it would be cheaper than GPRS
c) you can get it to work on PPC.

This one though, I have to admit is rather clever - using .NET to run both on PC and PPC amd is fairly destructive:

It is still unclear, however how its spreads from PC to PC (presumably you have to download and install / run it).
Of course given the fact that many people save their docs on SD and not the default My documents folder and that they do not disable security completely on their WM 5 and up devices (which are becoming majority these days) the effectiveness of this worm is more than questionable.
Well I still think it is too early to actually by this kind of apps. Also I think that as with many other programs the same "heavy" approach that works on PCs with many resources will not work well on PPC (not the way they are today). A different solution to virus protection needs to be found to be useful.
But hey - thats just my opinion...
So from what ive read its still to early to be using a resource draining av on the ppc? If this is the case, how about Spybot S&D? Is spyware more of a threat than viruses? are they really that much different? I find that spybot updates more regularly(when i connnect wifi).
as with virus's i believe that have to be made to support ppc's
in which case maybe due to spyware makers lack of innovation

WingChan: whether to use the software or not is a personal decision - my belief is: given the list of threats it is too early. Also I believe that the method used to protect against viruses on PC is not suitable for PPC because of the resource requirement. Something more efficient needs to be invented, perhaps taking advantage of difference in architecture between WM and desktop - like the fact that system files can not be corrupted but only hidden.
Note that BigDede preformed the test on HTC Advantage which has a 600+ MHz processor if I am not mistaken. I doubt the app would be as unnoticeable on my 200MHz Prophet.
But it is only a matter of time before someone writes a real and damaging virus for this platform as it becomes more and more common. So if you really value the info you have on there you might want to get protection already - although a good and frequent backup would be much better.
I haven't heard of spyware for Windows Mobile, only major one for BB - any one got any news on this?
There is a major difference between spyware and viruses:
Viruses try to cause as much damage as possible and their effects always become visible sooner or later, in many cases almost immediately after infection.
Spyware on the other hand, needs to hide and tries not to interfere in device operation as much as possible and show no sign of activity.

I agree also that it is too early today to really worry about having protection, but I prefer to be ready instead of regretting and wishing I had some protection.

I'm able to download the Norton Smartphone Security Premier Edition Beta version, but when I try to install it (which I assume must be done first to my laptop, followed by sync'ing my laptop with my 8525) a "Self-Extracting Archive" window comes up that says: "Warning, one or more files skipped". This occurs when the installation process reaches "Extracting: SUPPORT\START.ICO 100%".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

If I understand your recommendation, I don't think that gets me where I need to be. However, it could always be user error on my part.
When I try to "Setup" the file I downloaded (called "NSSPB.exe") from Symantec, a window comes up that contains a button that says "Install". However, after I click on it, it gets to a point in the installation process that shows "Extracting: SUPPORT\START.ICO 100%", and the process simply stops and a small window comes up that says: "Warning, one or more files skipped".
In essence, it appears I have recieved the entire 4.04 MB of program files I downloaded, but something goes askew when I try to extract/install them.
I'm stumped...

This will explain how to make your computer fast enough to run ubuntu (a form of Linux). And how to download the android package. This will take up 7 to 8 gb of space.
THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT UBUNTU (NOT VIRTUAL AND NOT DUAL IF DON'T WANT TO BE)*This could delete windows if you didn't partion your hard drive right
NOT FOR NOOBS BE WARNED
Go to the ubunutu download page given below and download the 700 mb iso image file. Iso is a cd formatted file u can open it with a zip appclation(but don't). When it is finished I recommand getting a dvd but maybe it could fit on a cd.(*Note that you don't have to burn on to cd u could extract to decktop and run the setup manually.) Burn the ubuntu on to the cd/dvd and than restart your computer with the cd/dvd still in the computer's cd/dvd rom. When the computer goes to a blink screen and asks you if want to boot from cd/dvd press enter. And than from here on follow the instractions.
STEP 1 (CLEAN COMPUTER)
*Note: for performance do this in safe mode.
First we need to make your computer fast as possible. Create a backup just in case you want to back up something. So go to download.com and download Advanced SystemCare Free(7 -10 mb). After you have installed click on the CARE! button to get started. This could depend on your computer usage space the bigger the longer it will take. It will wipe all internet data. If you don't want that to happen just go to maintain windows and click on the Privacy Sweep box to uncheck. Than scan. Than go to utilities and run all the following Disk Check, Disk Cleaner and install Smart defrag. After installing Smart Defrag click start on all the options in this order defrag only, deep optimize, and fast optimize.
STEP 2: RESTART COMPUTER
After restarting go back to System FreeCare and run game booster(install). Click game mode and a pop up will show. Click the button on the left side of the box. Check all boxes but not explore. than go to game mode.
STEP 3: Download virtualbox(68 mb download)
You could have a dual if you want. The download page is http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. Download the correct version. (windows= *VirtualBox 3.0.4 for Windows hosts x86/amd64). than install it.
Install Virtualbox(takes from 5-30 minutes depending on your computer)
Next>accept>next>next>next>yes>install>continue anyway(i got this like 6 times so...)>finish(i think)>cancel>new>Next>name=ubuntu>next>Next>Next>Next>Next>Next>
when u get to the virtual size thing move the bar to 7.5 gb (min). this should be a little extra space. Next>Finish>Next>
STEP 4: Download UBUNTU(700 mb)
DOWNLOAD PAGE http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and choose the ftp. than begin downloading. After download save the file to desktop and DON'T DO ANYTHING. go to the VirtualBox and click CD/DVD-ROM. Check the box and also ISO IMAGE FILE after that and mount to that image on the desktop. THAN OK. press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. go to processes and end explore(for speed). Click Start.
PART 2
OK. START by running VirtualBox with the mount on the ISO ubuntu and than click start on the top right hand side. press enter to leave language than enter again to install ubuntu. on the top of the bar it may pause alot so go to machine and resume it. if it total doesn't work just exit and power down and reboot with explore.exe gone and also no windows up and running. and than just follow the instructions to installing it about 1 hour to 2 hours depending. Make sure that it is completely partation to the virtual drive. After like forever when u reach the main desktop go to app... terminal and make sure u knoe your password. Than type

WTF? Why do you need to do all of this crap on your computer to run Ubuntu? If I was going to dual boot with windows I would not use the stuff you listed. Why not just explain how to use it create a ROM and let people figure out how to get Ubuntu on their computer.

but I would really recomend installing ubuntu through the windows installer (wubi) if you're a linux virgin, that way you don't risk anything in your windows partition, it's faster than virtualization, and eventually you'll drop windows once you learn how to use ubuntu at least.

I think you are right. I don't know if "part 2" is ever going to come, or if it will just be a copy/paste from the link you posted.
Wasn't it simpler to just install ubuntu as second os? If someone wants to dedicate himself to developement it would be better to have ubuntu not virtualized

but I would really recomend installing ubuntu through the windows installer (wubi) if you're a linux virgin, that way you don't risk anything in your windows partition, it's faster than virtualization, and eventually you'll drop windows once you learn how to use ubuntu at least.

I am not sure if you have ever tried virtual box but it is quite responsive and seems too run better than wubi. I am sure it depends somewhat on the system a person is running, but with a quad and 4 gb of ram VB runs very well. While I have a dual boot with Ubuntu , I have still found it easier to do my android stuff in it's own virtual space. With a dedicated 75gb I can use it seamlessly with my Windows 7 install. You should try it it really works very well and I have had no memory problems at all and have manged to build from source without any difficulty whatsoever. My Ubuntu install stays clean and I can mess with my virtual Mint install as much as I like without ever affecting my Ubuntu partition.
Personally I have Ubuntu on a Prtition of My portable drive,which means I can boot it up anywhere (so long as the computer can USB Boot). I shall certainly be following the original info. The same guy has posted many good Android Articles.
As for the OP here, he only really needed to post a link, not copy the whole thing.

Almost everything runs well with quad processors and 4GB of RAM. Oracle 10g runs well with that hardware. So that isn't saying much.

ha! this bit gave me a chuckle.
I freaking hate Oracle. I run a bunch of dbms' & 95% of my headaches come from them.
I prefer dual-booting, personally. I just started messing around with ubuntu (about 6 months maybe) and i love it, after using ubuntu i fully hate Windows Vista and all its sparkly, money-making horse-****. So now i have ubuntu and Windows both running smoothly on a compaq presario f700 laptop, and the only thing i really use my windows partition (i know thats not the correct technical terminology, just pay attention to the story) for is, well, basically just theming, and media storage. I use photoshop, and havent bothered to try using GIMP very much yet, and so i do all my theming (which isnt much really) in windows, which is where i also already have the autosign tools and draw9patch and other such things setup...and then all my music, pictures, whatever are all on my fat32 partition, and can all be accessed from either OS. aside from that, my computer boots into ubuntu by default. so if im using my computer, im doin it the ubuntu way, unless i NEED to use windows, for something like photoshop, and thats about it.
So long story short...(like its not already to late for that) im eagerly awaiting part 2 cuz ive been hitting some roadblocks...hope it helps!

Ok Granted u are right about that and so it should.
But assuming I am not the only person with a quad and 4 gb of RAM, this may work just as well for others too. As as a relative newb with Linux, I can honestly say I have killed a few installations of Linux on my Hard Drive by breaking packages and other things that prevent it from working properly. Sometimes it is easier for me to reinstall the whole thing because I lack the knowledge to fix it.... in comes Virtual Box. I can totally screw it up as much as I want and my Linux partition on my hd remains intact with no errors.

I do have virtualbox running on my linux box, my laptop's ubuntu side, and my laptop's win7 side. I also have a third computer that I have loaded with windows vista for the computer illiterate people in my house and a tiny dell mini 9 that I bought god-knows-why.
My main computer (since I can take it anywhere and my linux box i use mainly as a file server) is a gateway fx p-7805u. I won't have you google the specs, it's a 2.27 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb of ram, 320 gb main hard drive (plus I tossed a slow 5400 rpm 500 gb hd for files), so yeah, I can run virtualbox, but I mainly use it for running micro-xp on it for whatever else I need it.
I've used vb before like i said even configuring the vm with dual core support but there's no way it's as fast as a native system.
Anyway, wubi is not virtualization. It's an actual, loop-mounted image file/partition that fully utilizes the hardware it runs on. It's exactly the same as running a dual-booted system through partitioning, the only difference is that the ubuntu filesystem exists inside your ntfs partition rather than it's own partition, this has the effect of having a very slight hit on disk performance (much less than virtualization though), but everything else is running natively, even drivers. It's entirely safe for your host file-system and can be removed leaving no residual files anywhere on your system. It's also easy to share files with your host computer (with vb you have to set up a network share and then edit your /etc/init.d/rc.local to have it automount on startup, with wubi, it automatically creates a link to the host filesystem located at /host).
I've had to leave my computer building on vb overnight and then I come back to find that the process is stuck at some dex or java compilation, with an actual running system, this doesn't happen.
Give it a try, it costs nothing.

Thanks for the info... now I know you have a lot of computers in your household But seriously, I am not trying to put anyone's opinion down here... so there is no need to be quite so elitist I am just pointing out my own experiences with Virtual Box which have been very good. If it doesn't work for you... fine.. but you are suggesting to everyone else that it doesn't work properly or well and I can quite definitively say that yes it does.. and very well too.
I would imagine that your system from what you say may not be powerful enough to handle it as well... so maybe a quad is needed to make it run the way it does for me, I don't profess to know the answer... only that it works great on my system.. it is not slow.... does not have errors and compiles Android source quite easily using Mint Linux (another Debian based Linux Distro for those that are unfamiliar with it)
I don't think I ever mentioned it was as fast as a native system... all I am saying is that it runs well and for a noob it can be run without messing anything else up as it runs in it's own little environment.
I'm looking for a synchronization solution that will allow me to synchronize files between my Windows 7 Pro desktop, Windows 7 Pro Netbook and my WinMo 6.5 HD2. The limitations of the Windows Mobile Device Center in only being able to synchronise to the phone main memory is a major shortcoming IMHO and I really need to be able to utilize the extra storage capacity of an SD card. I will need to be able to synchronise different files between say my desktop and netbook than I would between my desktop and HD2, so any software I use will need to support profiles.
I've had a quick Google this morning for third-party apps to do this and found Syncables 360 which gets good reviews and seems to cover everything that I need.
Anyone here used it or have experience of it, good, bad or otherwise?
Well to answer my own thread, I took the plunge and bought this software. I can now understand why they no longer offer a trial version...
Initially I had problems installing this software on my Windows 7 desktop PC with the installer saying I didn't have the Adobe Flash player installed. I did have the latest Player version and this was confirmed to be working via Adobe's online diagnostics. I got around this problem by downloading & installing the latest Beta of the Flash Player. Now any software that is reliant upon third-party plugins such as Adobe Player worry me, but I had already paid for the software licence and the specifications of the software looked very promising.
So on to actually running up the software...
Next worry - it's a Java app. and from experience I know that any Java app that has to make calls to hardware as this software will need to do, is likely to to have issues with access permissions and operating system-level security software. That said, the software ran up fine and apart from a couple of rendering issues with the screen dialogues text (I've set my system to a slightly lager font than default) all seemed to be good to go. So, now to set-up my first sync profile...
Well you can't set up a profile unless you register an online account with the developer. Why? If I setup a profile to synchronise my data then I'd like that profile to be retained on my computer not on some third party's server. Why do they need to retain control over what I choose to synchronise? Anyway, an account was setup and a basic sync profile was established between my computer and a USB2 external hard disk. So I start the profile with just a few meg of basic file types to transfer (xls, doc & jpg), it appears to start OK but then it slows but the computer hard disk light is going full blast and the whole computer grinds to a near halt (Quad Core CPU with 4GB RAM). I manage to get Windows task manager up after much wait and sure enough the CPU is running at 100%. I manage to force a shut-down via task manager and the system shuts down.
OK, let's restart check the event logs and see what might have gone wrong. No chance! My once reliable system now Blue Screens with "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Nothing I could do could get it past this point and Windows 7 repair declares there are problems with the file system which after 10 minutes or so appear to have been fixed by chqdsk. Nothing would make the computer boot again, last know good, safe mode, Windows repair... nothing. The system would blue screen no matter what.
Eventually the only option left was to do a full system restore to before Syncables was installed. After a further chkdsk the system reboots and all is again well. I run hard disk and hardware diagnostics to make sure the system is healthy and not suffering from a failing hard disk, system bus error or faulty RAM modules - all test 100%
In fairness to Syncables they did offer to do remote support, but I declined and said I needed a robust system and had no confidence in the Syncables after it all but trashed my whole system. Thankfully they did agree to a full refund.
It's probably unfair to judge this software based upon my experience alone, but it does make you wonder why they no longer offer a trial version for download.
On paper this software looks to be an excellent all-round synchronisation solution, but sadly an implementation based upon Java & Adobe Flash Player is unlikely to ever be as robust as a system-level coded solution.
I have several Android tablets running the Rockchip 3066 processor.
I have tried all of the torrent clients available on Google Play, and find that while downloading files it really bogs down the whole tablet's resources. So much so, that you pretty much can't do anything else.
Very little is written about this problem, but I'm curious if there are any ROM tweaks available to eliminate this performance hit caused from running a torrent client. If so, I want to adjust the ROM'S I'm cooking for the Yuandao tablets.
All of my devices are very speedy....except when downloading torrents.

If it's only while downloading, then it could be a bandwidth issue. You could run Android's built-in firewall to limit the connection speed.
If it's the apps suck all the processing power available, then yeah, you'd probably have to adjust some code in your ROM... which I can't help you with.
It is the latter, because it doesn't really matter what the download speed is...it just sucks all the CPU power.
As soon as the download is done, everything speeds back up.

I still think it is twodayportedapp fault. With uTorrent, my device is totally bogged even when it is downloading slower than 1kb/s
I would like to find an android friendly torrent client, since remote just doesn`t cut it for me. Heck, I would make my tablet the only device running 24/7 at home (the refrigerator is not running round clock, you know )
Every torrent application will lag your phone/table it you're downloading to your primary SD Card. This is becase Androids needs to preallocate the full size of the downloaded files. So when Android zero filles 2Gb of files, then the read/write speed for other applications on the internal storage will drop, thus you'll get a lot of lag. Once the preallocation is over the phone comes back to live again (that is if you're not downloading with +10Mb/s speed of more).
Only way to avoid the lag is to have an external SD Card and download to it. BTW you can try my new torrent application TDM. Maybe it'll suit your needs better? (it has no problems with downloading to extarnal cards and it has a file manager to allowes you to manage the file on multiple cards with ease).

Hi there, I just have a quick question, if anybody could help me with this I'd be ever so grateful!
I was given a laptop today by somebody on Portland's Craigslist he gave it to me out of the kindness of his heart, wanted nothing in return,and to me that's not very common so I'm shocked and I Hate that I am, but I'm a little weary of it as well. How can I tell if this wonderful person possibly put some kind of hidden program or files or whatever to spy on me in any way? Whether it be for creepy reasons, monetary gain, or just monitoring in general, where would I look for files, or programs that could be a threat? Is there anyway to actually have these programs running and i not know about it? How can I be sure that he has no ties, no connection, nothing to do with this laptop anymore? Even remotely.....?
I need to be sure that my kids are gonna be safe using this laptop, how can I tell if there is Any invasion to our privacy?
I appreciate Any and All help I can get, I do know a little bit about this stuff but not nearly enough to be comfortable using it,

Which operating system is installed? The easiest way to be sure is just to format the hard drive and reload Windows...if Windows 10 is installed you can reset it quite easily through settings but if it's older then you'll need a disk or the installation files. If there's any sort of spy software installed it probably won't be obvious or show up as a program anyways.
I recommend a clean install of Windows 10 too. If that's not possible install Malwarebytes and ESET NOD32 antivirus free trial. Update both and do a full deep scan using both programs.
If it has malware or antivirus software already installed, uninstall it and get fresh versions above software. He may have white listed any malware/spyware he installed so when it scans, it won't show up in the detected list.
Also, I recommend a good firewall too. Personally, the built in Windows firewall lacks, but I'm a control freak.
