WazHack , new 2d rogue like! - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wazhack.WazHack
Okay so the game is not free but you can try it for the first 300meters (the objetive is to go DOWN.
It is NOT Xperia play optimized , but since it runs on Unity , the dpad works for movement. Nothing else works. We might get this optimized if we push hard enough , i guess.
And last , the game looks very promising but unfortunately , it runs awful. At least on my phone im getting constant "ram lags" , FPS is stable at 25-40 but the constant pauses make it very annoying.
The game doesnt need any quick reactions (since enemies only move when you move) but it is definitely annoying , im going to wait for a patch , if it ever comes.
You can try the game on your PC here http://www.wazhack.com/play

Never had played a roguelike game before. Interesting. :good:

WTF? It's not compatible with my Xperia Play. Anyone managed to run it?

Sure it runs fine on my phone annoying lag. Google says it's a R800i (its not)

I am sorry to derail this thread a bit, but I am quite in a shock. Since I've bought my latest Xperia Play I am observing a worrying trend, many new games seem to be incompatible with my device. At least that's what Google Play Store says.
WazHack, Mutant Roadkill by Glu, and the latest Glu game Gears & Guts. I have a new R800i, unrooted. What's going on? Are these games really THAT advanced that my Xperia Play cannot handle them? Or is this a regional thing (some games working only for the US market)? Would appreciate any advice, thanks.

There are many versions of the xperia play, the developers need to enable them individually.
My R800i however can download it from the store just fine, unless they took it out.
Edit :yup they took it out, just side load the app, even stronger hardware sometimes gets forgotten among aaaall the android devices

I can at least explain why I took Xperia support off WazHack. Shortly after release I got an angry 1-star rating from an Xperia user saying how terrible it was on their device. As an Indie developer (like most app developers), I don't have a huge suite of test devices. So my assumption was that it was somehow not compatible with the Xperia Play. By default, Google Play makes an app compatible with any device that meets the version requirement (and screen, and a few others). Devices that would otherwise be compatible can then be specifically excluded. I did that as soon as I saw the review.
After a few days, I managed to talk to a player on the WazHack IRC channel who had an Xperia, and I sent him the APK directly. He said it wasn't perfect but well and truly playable. (by this time I had also added many performance improvements too).
Two things he did point out though, and these may well be the specific answer to your question:
Xperia players are more likely to be demanding of games - its a key purpose for there device
The controller-based interaction gives a different feel than than touch-to-move: the player can feel a lag or jerk much more.directly
So I hope that helps expain somewhat.
Just remember that app developers probably don't have your device, and the more "special" it is, the harder it is to support, but that you can help by talking with the devs.
Anyway, it's a commercial game, which as I understand is verboten here, so I'll slink back into the shadows from whence I came.

It's true, xp owners are very demanding.

I don't know why, but at least on my device, mutant roadkill runs flawlessly. Like zero lag, smooth frame rate.
Why not officially support it?

Sonic 4 Episode I arrives on market!

Hey so I just seen on this market pretty bad compatibility for a lot of devices it seems, the data download is choppy and the audio is reportedly out of sync for SOME devices other devices just find the game to laggy.
Having tried it myself i find it very choppy Xperia Play controls work fine for me, although other users are reporting problems, this could be down to bad downloads/ custom roms.
Not to mention it's like over a year late, guess its in preparation for episode II

You are better off buying sonic CD, its much longer and its much more fun. Sonic 4 just plain sucks.
It's working smoothly for me with xperia play controls... Stock rom with root and some system apps uninstalled, and supercharged and i have chainfire installed....
Edit-Played through first level with only one lag spike which didn't really affect me since it was so small... Touchpaxz do not work but the d-pad does and I can't see why you would want the Touchpaxz to work so I'd say buy the game... No idea what's wrong with your version... Maybe try deleting and re downloading the sd data....

Working fine for me too, Sonic CD runs better but I guess if I change my v6 settings it will run a little better.
PS. I played through first level with next to no lag, a slight bit of slow down in places but bearly noticeable.

Blocked from the market for me. It's saying incompatible with my device.
EDIT: Went ahead and *forced* it anyway... and now I'm wondering why in the hell they blocked Xperia PLAY users from seeing this. It's working perfectly with Xperia PLAY's physical gamepad and I can't quite complain about the performance either.
GAMEPLAY VIDEO:
While Sonic CD was a much bigger deal, this is kind of a big deal for me too... you guys don't know how much I bugged Sega about putting this on PSP (while most games just suck on touch-screens, platformers got the shorter end of the stick by far) and this kinda makes up for it.

gonna download and have a look myself, got it on my PS3 and love sonic games!! lets see what its like on my mobile
Can confirm that it works fine on the Play controls.
I just bought Sonic 4 on my old Droid x and then tried the apk on my Xperia PLAY and I can tell you right now that the controls most certanly work. The menus are all touch but the game itsef supports the controls, not the touchpads but the directional pad works great.
I've been playing it a bit now, and must admit I did find a few bits of lag going on :-( but all the controls work find, and tilting on certain bits is loads of fun!!
I'm not overclocking so maybe if I pop SetCPU up to 1.4 or 1.6 it may stop the lag.

That is interesting... that means Sega was actively working on making this compatible with the Xperia PLAY this whole time.
...that brings me back to why the hell they'd make this any less than fully available day 1. It's not like they couldn't expect us to figure them out.

My view in Shadowgun

I've never really properly got into an optimized game for our phone and found the touchpads terrible. However I've started to pay shadowgun and it is unreal. I'm hooked on it. Feels like a proper game, as if I'm sitting in front of my xbox and the controls are close to perfect. Really gives me hope for the touchpads and proves that they don't have to be hopeless.
By far the best purchase I've made for my play and there's now an expansion pack for it that I noticed but I haven't played it yet, haven't completed the first story.
Definitely worth buying and restoring your faith in the almighty Play!

I agree. It feels like a your playing a console game on the Xperia Play. I'm loving it
Dead Space and Bad Company 2 also have excellent controls. They're also free
Where can I get bad company 2 from? I can't find it on the market
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
It's definitely nice, but my faith in the Xperia PLAY never really staggered to begin with.
If you'd played Dead Space, you would've known a loooong time ago that the Xperia PLAY touch-pads are a more-than-competent means of control input (and also got a sneak peek at the standards in which Shadowgun worked up to). Even outside that, there's so many other devs that have used the touch-pads perfectly that it pretty much is just Gameloft being typical Gameloft... Lantansia, Halfbrick, TwoHeads, NaturalMotion, Art in Games, Glu Mobile, Angry Mob Games and so many more have already established that the touch-pads can work extremely well with high quality titles.
shadowgun is good, so is fifa 12.

OnLive Users, please share your experience on the PLAY.

I recently found OnLive, a cloud based gaming app that is on multiple platforms, including android. At the moment, they have titles such as Assasins Creed II and Brotherhood, SplinterCell Conviction, Homefront, and many others. Their volume isnt as big as Valve's Steam, but it has been recognized by the Steam community.
Some basic pros:
-No need to download your games, their on the cloud.
-Their game selection is expanding.
-You can play a demo before you buy.
-No fee for having an account, but there is one for a membership.
-Analogs are compatible on the PLAY.
Some cons:
-You cant play offline.
-You have too keep up with your bills to play.
-No mods in games.
-Less variety of games compared to steam (which doesnt support android).
-Games are about retail price moat of the time.
- A lot of data is used streaming your game.
when i last used used it, it was very slow and lagging all the time on my wifi broadband (30Mb)
I've no problems with it. I've only 2,5 meg broadband. Sometimes it's pixelised a little but work like a charm.

What? OnLive is out for like 6 months, XDA members went over it. Yes, it's as good as it was before.
It never connects on my wifi broadband (10mb)
It work's great for me. I only do the demos because the majority of the games I own on Xbox and I can't afford to pay twice for a game. I use it for a cool factor to show console games on a phone that no one has heard of at the parties I throw.

I love using onlive, one because its all cloud gaming...so I can play most of my games on my pc and then if I'm going somewhere and it has wifi (I rarely use my data *only 2 gb.a month*) then I can continue where I left off....or if I'm planning iny from.my pc to my laptop.
The only thing I dislike about the Play and onlive is the lack of L3 and R3 physical buttons OR touch screen buttons, and for most of my games, like Dues ex and AvP, it gets hard to play....but the play is Awesome for.Assassins creed games, (I've got 2 and brotherhood) and orcs must die....I think the only mistake I've made is buying dawn of war 2 when i first found onlive 3 months ago...
But the advantage is that you can always find other players for multiplayer games ( Homefront ftw, even though I don't have it, I'm.waiting for somekind of sale where it will be at or below $10....which is when I have bought my games lol)

It drove me to buy the OnLive console(which kicks ass), but on Xperia Play I'd always thought it suffered from input lag.
Recently upgraded our router to something newer/more oriented towards gaming and now the input lag is drastically decreased; it's actually quite practical now! What I also like is that I don't always have to be confined to WiFi. In places where I have a good HSPA+ connection, I can play without being bound to a router! It's no replacement for having games that can be played without an active internet connection, but being able to play full-blown Assassin's Creed games and the REAL Street Fighter IV:AE make this quite a winner for me.
My one persisting qualm is the L2/L3/R2/R3. There is absolutely no L3/R3 whatsoever, and L2/R2 takes over the volume buttons. What they really need to do is just have L2/L3/R2/R3 as virtual touch buttons near the bottom of the screen.
If you get it, check out a lesser-known game called A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda. Amazing game!

Yeah, I agree with you on the R and L 3 buttons. I wish for some games though that we had the ability to flip the l2 l, r2, and the l1and r1 buttons/triggers around.....I sent onlive an email about that at the end of march and they said they would look into it.

Works great for me.
BUT:
- A lot of games are too dark.
- A lot of games are unsuitable for the Play's buttons. ie. they need more.
- A lot of games don't suit a small screen. For example, the ball in Virtua Tennis is tiny & moves too fast for small, handheld gaming.
The controls suck basically, mainly because of the lack of l2, r2, l3, r3. The touchpads are also quite crap for these games :/

from the preview I saw, it definitely beats gamelofts 2.5d ds-ish port. Yes, I bought a console hit for my former DS, and regretted it again after getting CoD4, so horrible.
So the general theme is thatyou have to have fairly good Wi-Fi to enjoy w/o lag. Also, is it true that OnLive's servers go down from time to time, I've heard things like this on other forums and want to confirm whether or not it is common. I want to try i .t, but I want to know that it is convenient before I attach my identity to anything else and forget.

I've only ever disconnected from onlive when my internet has effed up....you have to have a marginally good wifi to have it look good, but onlive normally tells you first if you have connection issues. And you can.use aCC or DC to buy a game and then delete the card off your account, so nothing is permanent.

OnLive : input lag
Persistent Input Lag
*my internet speed is 105mpbs/10mpbs
*have tried 3 wireless N routers (no channels overlapping)
-playing Street Fighter is grueling
-playing Batman is ok.
=I really wish it worked without the lag.
{EDIT} as a top edit I'd like to remind people that your connection no matter how fast will still create input lag in your games. That's a server issue cause by how the data / input is sent and received. If you want more info on it, check into NVIDIA and GAI KAI. Gai Kai has better visuals but the frame rate for some reason takes a dive...
{/EDIT}
I've used the system since August, and I'm a happy customer!
At first the visuals were very muddy looking (arkham city looked really bad) but after the following update the devs must have changed something because the colors are more vibrant.
The control lag is passable, even when playing some pretty intense games. I have split second on there (and the play pack) and I've gotten numerous 1st place trophies once I got used to the latency. It's not bad at all it's just not perfect because it's not 1:1 (it's really close though).
When I got it in august of last year I thought to myself "boy I wish this had xperia play support" and what to my surprise not a week later I didn't have to use the game keyboard lol
Here's my pros and cons in a TLR
PRO's
-you're playing PC-quality games on your phone
-full Xperia Play optimized (even the volume buttons count as the shoulder buttons though it is a little awkward)
-hundreds of games to choose from and recent ones
-the price point of some games is astounding. I got a few games for only $2 you just need to look at sales frequently.
-graphics have improved dramatically since I've used the service
-the lag in controls is passable (more in CON's)
-you can view other people playing the game and there's a FREE 30 min trial with almost every game
-did I mention it's PC games on your phone?
CON's
-you can't play any 2k games on the phone right now (no bioshock, borderlands)
-the lag in FPS's is tough. Even games like splinter cell where you have to aim your gun in a tight spot it's tricky. Possible but it's a pain when it's not 1:1. I couldn't even play FEAR 2 or 3 it was death up the butt
-battery drain LOL
right there's really not many bad things about it. However the release date for the games varies though Batman: AC came out pretty soon after it's actual release.
Also Wifi and LTE are preferred and I didn't put it as a con because for me I can play on 3G as well. It's fast enough in my area, I'd use speed test to see if it is fast in your area. If you're speed test can consistently hold around 150+ KBps then you're golden.
Borderlands is on onlive lol...
The assassin's creed games are perfect for the play. Only con I have is lack of l3 and r3 buttons, even on the screen would be fine.

I agree with DiKej in his first post - the game runs RIDDICULOUSLY smooth (high for every graphics setting and absolutely no lags at all!) and it's great. Gameloft guys should learn from these guys how to optimize the game. Another good game SCREAMING for Xperia PLAY touchpad support.

Greetings Crescent Moon games. I already played through Aralon on my old iPod Touch more than a year ago, and that was the best iOS game I had ever played. Now I own an Xperia Play and I found out Aralon was released for Android on Amazon. Me, and the whole Xperia Play community, think that optimizing this game for our gamepad (including analog touchpads) would be the absolute best thing ever happened to our phones. That would be a true Elder Scrolls-like experience. I tried using apps like Joystick Center 6 and Game Keyboard with Aralon, but they don't work.
Thanks a lot for your attention.

It seems like the only real issue is they don't have phones to test it out. Can we do something about that? Maybe a donation, or emailing sony, or even offer ourselves to test every beta optimized version. I'd do that.
What do you guys think? The game doesn't seem to work with joystick center (the app shuts down when the game runs), and with gamekeyboard (i found out that the circle button actually works but that's it. Strange...)

Hmm... not trying to advertise my site here, but XperiaPlayGamer has a section especially devoted to developers who want to Xperia Play Optimize a game, but don't have a device to test on. It doesn't cover touch-pads but it could get it to a playable state on an essential basis. We could try e-mailing them that?
We *need* to email that to them. I'll take care of it. I also wanted to focus on the gamekeyboard fact about circle button working... i think it has to do with the relationship between the game and apps like that.
edit: he answered "wow thanks!!!" for his iphone. He seems really enthusiastic about this. If they manage to fully optimize this title, the Xperia Play will be on a whole new level, guys.

You know, if Gameloft will change their minds and won't give game for 70% (more of 50% minimum) of Android users with devices with Adreno 205 inside, then who will buy it? Not everyone like SGS3 or have HTC One X. Guuuyss..... Be realists - it will be for Play users for sure - at least won't lag - do you remember Dungeon Defender? It has UE3 inside and what? Everything awesome on Play, and it was exclusive for some time....And if we get it - we get optimization too - Gameloft won't delete the best gaming Android device which Play is - which another device has touchpads like that? Just be patient and wait like me .
And about game - very good gameplay, nice graphics (not like super-uper UE3 graphic and incredible effect, but really good ), I have only hope they won't f*ck up engine, to avoid lags if we don't have iDevice....
Waiting for this title, reminds me some kind of Sacred Odyssey by Gameloft - if yes - I'm done .
Gameloft?! No, thank You... Another crap from this developers... Everything they touch, is going to be a crap with nice graphics (but there are also a games like Splinter Cell with awfull graphics).
I have a hope that someday they will make a game taking more time to get it better.

To it smells His Kingdom of Amalur for Android. Also I think as DikeJ, Gameloft always shows his games with the best graphs, for powerful devices as the S3, since for example on having taught It Nova 3, but only it is his face of sale. Then they are optimized for every terminus. I hope that it comes to Xperia Play!
What DiKeJ said.
How many times now have we assumed we'd get left behind now? And how many times has it actually happened? The consistent trend here is that no matter what level of benchmark the game aims towards... if it's not just flat out unsuited to play on anything but touch screens (Mass Effect: Infiltrator) chances are Xperia Play will get it, and it will run well. You'd think people would have stopped underestimating the Xperia Play after seeing it get it's hands on every benchmark game to date.
Should be for Xperia Play, whos gonna enjoy such games without physical buttons !!!
For touch screen Asphalt 7 is ok..

Yeah but the way Gameloft are going it'll probably be so big we'll have to delete all bloatware and have only this one game installed.

I hope Gameloft will continue the trend they did with The Dark Knight... having a SD-movable installer that didn't suck up a ton of space as "data" was nice.
Them thinking they need to suck up space off our phone is the major reason I don't play Order & Chaos, Six Guns, N.O.V.A. 3 and Modern Combat 3 as much as I'd like to.
...they'll never be as bad as Dvide Arts' punk ass though... they need to be beaten for having an additional data download go straight to the phone.
Calm down and relax guys....It's Gameloft so the game will be something like 2GB and hopefully Xperia Play optimized. Just chillout and wait with me . My only 3 asks are:
-optimize
-lag free, not only on New iPad (or iPad 3, call like you want) or iPhone 4S
-not so short and stupid adventure - something like Sacred Odyssey or Eternal Legacy or BackStab will be nice .
C'mon, pray with me! xD
It looks nice i hope we can play it on the play thanks for share
