[Q] data and roaming issues

I hope this is in the right place if not I apologize. Anyways I was running AOSP v0.9 and this morning I turned off data to conserve battery life. After that my phone will only connect to 1x and it is always roaming. It seems to realize that it is supposed to be on USCC it even says USCC in the status bar. So I called customer service and they told me to do a *228 and from what I hear this is really bad for anyone running ASOP then I did it anyways and it connected me to verizon so I disconnected the call and am still stuck roaming and with no 3g. Then I decided to switch back to MIUI and I'm still having the same problems. Another weird note, if I set my network to automatic it kills my connection but if I put it on home only I am roaming. Any ideas guys.

This is the same issue I posted earlier that I haven't resolved yet. I am getting the verizon thing when I dial *228 as well. It is really frustrating because the phone is virtually unusable for data now. Hopefully we get it figured out. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

OK so after doing some research, it looks like this issue can happen if you disable your data (using a toggle, such as the ones in the notification bars of some roms), and then flash a new rom or kernel or something with the data off. It looks like it wipes the APN? Anyone know if this sounds like what may be the issue or how we might go about fixing it?

Well I just got off an hour long call with tech support they think it is an issue with the radio and want me to do an exchange since I bought it less than thirty days ago. So I don't know maybe I should just cancel this and get a new phone with a new carrier. Maybe something with 4g. But I love this phone so I don't know what I'm going to do. Keep me updated if you find a fix.

Tried your method and nothing. Kind of running out of ideas here. Any radio/modem I should need would be in the ROM right? I have gone as far as to flash all the way back to DI14 and can't get this thing to work. Still can't figure out how it even happened in the first place.

Well I figured it out for me anyways. Call US cellular and they will give you a new phone under warranty. I'm on mine now. It is back to 2.1 and stock but it works!

Just got mine working about 10 minutes ago. Call USCC tech and they said that for some reason I was no longer "provisioned" for 3G service so they fixed it. I know our issues were a little different. Glad we're both up and running again. Now lets see if I can do something else to screw this up . . . . .

Amen to that I spent 4 hours on the phone with them yesterday and they couldn't fix it. So the actually brought me a new phone to my work. I couldn't believe they would do something like that.

Well it only took me about three hours I tried flashing a new kernel with an app I downloaded from the market can't remember the name but of course everything went to hell. Since I don't have a computer it took me 2 days to find one and get it flaked to stock in odin now my speaker doesn't work oh well maybe in another couple of days I can flag it again. Maybe I should just quit screwing worth it but it's just to much fun lol.

New G2x black freeze

Hey everyone I just bought a g2x and it seemed to be OK until everytime I charge it wont wake up and its hot as hell!! I have to battery pull. Last night I had it charging and in the morn the phone would not wake and was baking like it was in the oven. I rooted but still seem to have the problem with all rom's. After scouring the forums I've seen some people return there's and get an up to date model which fixes the problem. Other threads say its the battery at fault. Since I bought it straight up I can't call T-Mobile for exchange so what can I do? Are there any ways I can stop this from happening? Thanks guys for looking at my post.

If it is getting that hot there is a serious problem with the battery or the phone. Contact TMO and get a replacement. If you bought from a third party source get them to replace your defective device. Are you using the official battery? After market batteries often have bad temp sensors and can cause dangerous issues such as this. If the battery gets too hot it can actually explode.

I bough it new from a third party at a high price. They said they will not take it back. Anything that is wrong with the phone its not their fault nor problem. Can't contact T-Mobile since i didn't get it through them and I'm on a different carrier because i had the phone sim unlocked.
Update though the only Roman which been running perfect no freezes or reboot is eagle blood froyo. Stable and fast rom but I'm dying for gingerbread. All Ginger roms give me problems. BTW I'm using battery that came with phone not third party.

Do u have full coverage insurance? If u do, use the phone for a few days then call T-Mobile. Insurance stays on the line and covers 99% of phones.

I don't have tmobile contract. I use simple mobile 4g service which is 60 dollars a month. They won't honor me. I was thinking of calling LG support but I don't think that will go anywhere.

Try a new battery. If that doesn't solve the problem contact LG USA support. Don't mention you are not a TMO customer or that you bought it second hand (warranty is to the original purchaser only - technically second hand devices have no warranty). If you don't have proof of purchase they might honor the warranty based on 18 months from the date of manufacture. Play as stupid as you can and see if they let you send it in for repair or replacement. They don't do advance exchanges so you will be without the phone for about a month.

No luck with LG support. The only thing I have left is trying a new battery. Right now I'm fine on Eagles Blood froyo rom but any other rom i get overheating and reboots/freezes. Idk why is that.

I remember when I had the same issue you have... "charge over night, wake up and phone was very hot and the buttons light up but nothing was on screen"... I tried all the rom there is for g2x, best for me is cm7 nightly builds. No issue what so ever after flashing it. Cm7 Nightly 179

I just found a gingerbread Tom that was posted not too long ago that fixes all the screen of death issues and reboots. Jboxer ported it from another LG L95G (tracfone) that has the same hardware as the g2x. I've been running it and it is flawless. The only bad side is its stock. But ill take performance over everything else. Its gingerbread 2.3.4.
Im nit android saavy but im thinking LG messed up somewhere in the software. A bug that should have been noticed by them.

Just got a replacement phone screen didn't sit right and random reboots already so they said they didn't want to put me in another thunderbolt. So ill miss out on the excitement of the ril finally being released. When I get my rezound I have a few accessories so ill post those Tuesday or Wednesday. Just got some of it too

I too am having reboot issues with my Thunderbolt. Along with the loose USB port, I might just have to get a replacement. Did you take it into a store to have them look at it or did they troubleshoot it over the phone?

Just call no one in the store knows their @$$ from a hole in the ground. If you've had multiple problems and are done with the phone ask to speak to a escalation Rep. If not just tell them make sure you're on the latest update before talking to them or they'll tell you that fixes it. Also they might try a hard or soft reset if you've tried that let them know. This was my fifth bolt so they didn't even ask just offered the bionic, charge, some LG phone, and the rezound so I took the obvious choice.

Just got off the phone with Verizon; they're sending me a Rezound as a replacement as well. Called technical support because my phone was rebooting randomly, and the agent said that since this was my fourth Thunderbolt, they're going to switch it out with a different model. Choice was between the Rezound and the LG Spectrum.

Congrats mine comes today so ill be on ics within twelve hours

Just did my call in as well.. Fortunately they were sympathetic after seeing note after note with replacement devices.. I'm on my 5th tbolt, and after seeing that they're starting to replace easily with other devices I went for it. The nice lady on the other end at tech support didn't even blink when I asked for the rezound as a replacement. She asked if I'd like an extended battery with that? Said yes please

Do u guys know if u had to buy the tbolt from Verizon direct? Cuz I got mine from best buy, can I still call Verizon for a replacement? Random reboots r killing me...

Yes as long as you buy it from an authorized dealer which Best Buy is and are still under the 1 year warranty. (also of note, they generally don't replace phones with a different model unless you have had several replacements already)

Out of curiosity when they sent you the Rezound did you get the Beats headphones/battery/back cover?
When they did a phone replacement last summer for my wife's fascinate to a DINC2 they only sent the phone with no charger or battery or battery back plate since it was a warranty phone exchange.

vzw has replaced my wife's tbolt 3 times now. definitely considering this route.

No headphones asked for a bettety and gave me an extra battery cover

I generally just live with the random reboots since it is not that much of a horrible issue. But do you think they would replace my phone with a Rezound even I did not report previous issues. Like the text problem and the rebooting problem that is the current issue with the TBolt? Just kinda want the Rezound since it came out. Very pretty phoen

I am also wondering this. I have had the T-Bolt since last may and have dealt with the rebooting and text problems because I didn't want to go through the process of calling and getting a replacement. After reading this thread I really want to try and call for a rezound upgrade, but I have never called previously or had a previous replacement so IDK if it will work. I will post again if I do try it.

No I tried on my third and fourth and they said no so its for people whohavehad multiple complaints from my experience but it wouldn't hurt to try I guess. It also has to do with who you get when you call. From my calls be nice to them if you get upset or angry they don't want to help you out.

Every now and then my phone randomly shuts off...and it's not a low batt situation.
Are you guys on the stock ROM? I would imagine a different ROM would be a possible solution...

Great device, just got one for my wife, and she loves it. The screen looks great from any angle, a little lighter than the Tbolt of course too. But I love my Tbolt, but I still get to play with the Rezound sometimes...

Samsung Support

Well, I'll start off by saying that I bought this phone new off of eBay and I've had it for like 4 months. Everything was great until I lost my IMEI a while back and then I manually injected it back. Ever since then, my phone has not been able to keep a connection with my 3G since the area I live in doesn't have 4G. Strange thing is that when I go to an area that has 4G, the connection is fine. So, I sent in my phone to Samsung a couple months ago...and they said they fixed it, so I was super happy! Then I saw that indeed...it wasn't fixed. Ever since I got it back from the "repair", the only way I have been able to have any sort of data is by changing the setting in my phone to CDMA only so that I can at least have 1X data. I have finally grown tired of this slow data and called Samsung again. All the guy said after a long conversation is that he could set me up with a other repair. I really don't think that'll do any good whatsoever, since it didn't do anything for me the first time. So, if anyone bothered to read through this whole thing, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of anything I could do to try and solve my issue. I seriously would pay the person that helps me solve the issue. And if no one is able to help, then I have my shipping label and everything already to send my phone back to Samsung again. I hope it doesn't come down to that though! Anyways, thanks for reading!

Bring it into sprint, and tell them that your invoking your samsung warranty. If they can't fix it you will get another phone. I had to do this after my phone, purchased from ebay, started to give me trouble with constant reboots for no reason, then it would freeze up.. It took one trip to the store, then a call to sprint to get it done..

Weird screen problem, was turning blue and now is off

My Skyrocket started from having a small blue airbursh type dot on the screen and it moved to the whole phone throughout the day, After a while the screen got really dark blue, but was still functional until today, I think the problem came from charging my phone. But I am using the same charger, so I'm not 100% sure why it would suddenly stop working.
It started in the morning and progressively got worse throughout the day after charging it throughout the night, and then last night I charged it again and now the screen just doesn't display anything. I can still use muscle memory to unlock my phone with the pattern, and it will still receive notifications.
Does anyone have any ideas? The only difference between how it was charged yesterday and today is that I'm in South Carolina instead of Kentucky.

Go back to Kentucky! Jk. It could be a hardware issue but I'd rule that out by trying a different rom. You didnt say what rom you're currently on.

I am running CM10.0, the stable version of it. I haven't upgraded because I didn't really find it necessary as I was happy with the way it was. It's a really weird problem though.
It seems to be because of the charger, but I'm still not 100%. Should I just try to recover to the original GB rom through Odin?

I'd try a different rom to see if out I'd rom related. But I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue. Odin'ing back to gb or a newer os, should tell you if it's hardware or software related.

Okay, it appears to be a hardware problem. Flashed the stock GB tar from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and have absolutely no luck. Odin worked successfully and the phone still seems to be having the same problem.
Has anyone ever heard of or seen this problem before? It's pretty random. I think I have the phone under insurance, where as I will just tell them I lost my phone.. Otherwise looks like I'll be without a phone for a while unless I go out and buy an unlocked one, as I wanted to switch carriers next year when my contract was up!

If youre still under the one year warranty, AT&T should be able to give you a refurbished one. This is the first blue screen issue I've seen or heard of.

It wasn't under warranty, as I've had it for a year and a week almost exactly.. And they want a whopping $200 for it through insurance. I'm not doing that. I'm tired of the Skyrocket and I'm not going to pay $200 to get it through insurance. It isn't on warranty, but it was under insurance. I can tell you this is the last time I insure a phone.
I'm going to be buying a Nexus 4 and re-use my SIM, and if it doesn't work I will just ask AT&T for another SIM card and deactivate my old one.

So, it is pretty much 100% where the phone isn't going to work anymore, and I'm not really sure if a screen replacement will work. So yeah, looks like I am going to go with the Nexus 4 and be happy with it.
I do have a question kind of unrelated, and I'd be happy if someone can point me in the right direction and give me an answer here so I don't have to gunk up the forums with another topic.
Is there anyway to grab my phone's data virtually or through the recovery file? Fortunately I was smart enough to make a backup to my sdcard right when it started turning blue. Is there some way I can get my pictures and some important notes from my phone?
