i doubt it. Not too sure about that. But for video chatting, you can also try Oovoo and Gtalk.

Skype works for calls, but i can't get video to work. On Skype forums, other tablet users complain of the same.
Skype works 100% for me.
I video called with my girlfriend for about 2h.
Went really nice, but crashed once.
You can even switch between front and back camera. But this is a bit buggy.
Works really well but lags the device like crazy if you multitask.
Skype with video works fine, although outgoing video quality is mediocre at best (this applies to all android tablet/phones, it's skype's fault)

I called my parents while I was on vacation (and will be calling them and other friends via my tablet while away at school), and it seemed to work pretty well. I think I looked better to my parents than they did to me, not sure if it's the phone or just the wifi at home (I came home to some pretty poor speeds and had to fiddle with the router a little). I had issues with my parents not coming through to me, but they can see me. I originally blamed it on my custom ROM on my phone, but then it happened on my PC and tablet...so I'm going to have to look at her phone to see what's happening. She has no idea how to use it, as I wasn't home when she received it. Took one look at it when I got home, and noticed that the homescreens were a mess, the dock had a bunch of strange Verizon apps on it, etc. So I'm going to blame her phone for now.
I've called almost every night to family. I have only noticed occasional camera glitches that lasted only moments.

It's works, but last 2 days with problem. About after 1 hour on line when Skype not used, it go off line itself. After you open again, it necessary to put user name and password again or only password. Anybody have the same problem????

I prefer Google+ Hangouts because I can have video with more than 1 users.
Used skype yesterday for 4 hours to remote someone in for a ffl draft. Medium quality. Sapped battery almost completely. Crashed twice. But when it worked it did good enough
alternatively you can use google hangouts or google talk with video.
skype mod
I recommend downloading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25703019&postcount=2223 (better skype mod)
When it works it works for hours. In balanced mode it is sometimes unbelievable how low the drain is.
But sometimes it will just not work, no video.
But hard to tell if it is the app, the server or my partner that is the reason for it.
Tried skyping with the gf. But mid call, it crashes. Happened twice.
Not too long ago it got updated. I haven't experienced any problems since so hopefully it stays like that.

I've tried the TF700 in the local MediaMarkt and the first app I installed was "Uitzending Gemist". It's a Dutch app to view television shows.
Unfortunately it kept freezing, both during startup and while actually using the app. It continously gave me the "application is not responding" popup.
As you can imagine this was a pretty horrible first experience, and I decided to not buy the tablet yet.
Is this issue caused by the IO problems, and do other apps suffer from it as well? Anyone else tried to use this app on the TF700?
Also, is the problem just as severe on the TF300?
I have the TF700 for a week now and 'uitzending gemist' was one of the first apps I installed. It runs quite good and I have not experienced any problems.
The problems you have seen are probably due to a bad network connection.

That seems extremely unlikely, I'm not talking about watching videos or anything. The home screen of the app doesn't even load before I get a freeze with the "Uitzending Gemist is not responding" message.
Good news that you don't seem to have the issues though..
Well, my experience on other devices is that the app tends to crash when a wireless network connection is not stable. Just tried it here by moving away from my access point and the app again has problems, but in my opinion the TF700 is not to blame.

Hi Tom, only now have had the opportunity (and energy ) to give the app a run, and I do not experience any issues with it. Starts up fast, runs nicely. OK, granted, on my mobile data, video is just plain crap, but I was testing aboard a train, so it might have had something to do with the cell tower changing or something. I do not know what the issues was, of course, but I'm at least not having issues with the app. (Haven't had this installed for ages, as I do not watch television -- I already have a severe shortage of hours in my day ).
Ok, that's good to hear! Sounds like the MM unit was borked. Not a very good way to sell a product hehe.
Thanks!
I told her not to. I told her not to waste her money. She saw the pain I went through with my Prime. I only used it for about an hour. Feels just like the old one, the Prime. I tried 3 different web browsers and all 3 were not smooth. They were choppy and lagged big time. If I went to move the page up or down with my finger it would pause for like half second then jump up real quick to catch up. User experience is pretty lame. The sound is awful coming from that thing they call a speaker in the back. It did perform a firmware update along with a camera update. What browser does everyone use? I tried Firefox Beta, ICS+, Dolphin. She has a couple of weeks to return it, which I'll probably make her do it. I guess she doesn't know about my Samsung! Ooops.

Is there a point to this post? If you have issues with the Infinity and you want help we're here for that. If you want to vent that you hate the device, please do it somewhere else. I'm sure there's a Samsung Galaxy Tab or note forum that would love to hear it.
Anyways, to answer the question, if you look through the threads and do some research, most people use Chrome, Browser (stock), Firefox beta, and Boat Browser (there are plenty of threads on it).
I use ICS+ but my only problem is that everything takes so long to load. But it's pretty smooth for me.

Agreed, complaining never helped anything in life. You should look around for solutions for the issues you're having.
I use the stock browser, Dolphin and Chrome; depending on the site I may switch from one to another for best performance. Stock works fine for me on most sites though.
I would recommend Volume+, really helps with the low volume!!

Do a factory reset, because something is wrong with your software. The install dolphin. Many people here consider it the smoothest browser for the Infinity by far.
Complaining here will get you nothing. Many of us would rather have rock solid hardware with a great dev community to make up for the manufacture's software shortcomings than the creaky plastic and low res screens present in Samsung's sorry excuses for tablets.
Background processes limit to 4! (Developer options in settings) good luck.

Im now on 5th day with my TF700T.
So far it have been mixed feelings about it.
I love the keyboard, dont think i can have a tab without a keyboard in the future.
There is also no other tablet out there that have what I want.
The thing that worries me a bit is the lag on the device. Sometimes I must wait several seconds before it responds. And this is not the touch screen, becouse when I just wait, it will do what i wanted. This is not fun when you are sufring a simple webpage.
Will Asus fix this lag in the Jelly Bean 4.1 update?
How about people that have rooted (custom rom) their devices, do they have the same issues?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
ummm, i dont think anyone on here can answer that question. JB is a google OS update.
Try resetting
Then check the firmware version.
The only delays I see after tapping are when web browsing.
Everything else is snappy as far as snappy can be under Android.
Are you running in the balanced mode?
First thing I did was root mine and freeze all of the useless crap they preinstall. Havent ever had any lag issues.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. Have had the tablet just less then a week. I very surprised at just how poor the performance is on this. Here are some of the issues I'm having:
-If I leave the web browser app for other apps and then come back to it, my web pages reload. It's like the multitasking fail that is present on the HTC EVO 4G LTE or HTC One series only not as pronounced.
-Some Flash heavy websites are so choppy and laggy. Scrolling is very choppy.
-The Netflix app is almost unusable. Scrolling through my queue seems like it's getting about 5 frames per second. Oddly enough, actually watching movies plays perfectly if I can manage to scroll to select the right movie
-Some games, even ones that are promoted through the Tegra Zone are very laggy.
I really want to love this tab. It's so great for me in so many other ways but I can't live with it if this is what I can expect
I'm rooted, not unlocked, stock ROM. I've been running in performance mode. I've tried with and without Nova Launcer. I've removed or frozen everything I dare to using TB. I've looked through this and other forums for tips on improving performance but so far nothing has helped. Do I have a lemon? Are these problems common? Is this what this tab is? Please help, really want to get this thing running like I'm pretty sure it can.
im going to go ahead and assume that asus had a bad batch of tf700t's go out. i had one with the same problem and i returned it, got a new and havent experienced the same problem again. so fast and snappy that jellybean will just make this tablet crazy.
Because of some problems i have with my pad i have decided to factory reset it a week ago.
Since than the experience is sooo much better. Didn't solve my problem though

Not sure what to tell you...
I don't have any really bad slowness.
Kind of sounds like a bad processor or gpu core or other hardware bug like maybe ram errors.
IMO wouldn't say these are common problems.

C6. From Amazon maybe 4 days ago. Is that older or more known to have issues. I'm still well within my return period from Amazon. If C7 is known to be better it would be worth it to me to return it and buy it from a store where I can look at the serial number on the box first. Thanks for the replies... Didn't mean to hijack the thread but it seems the op and I are having the same issue.

The tablet serial number can be found on the box the tablet came in and on the bottom of the tablet itself on a sticker (on the part of the tablet that would go into the dock if you use one).
The only difference between a C6 serial number and a C7 serial number is that one was manufactured in June and one in July (the number after the C is the month it was manufactured in)....

For my limited use, the lag and freezing was driving me nuts. Of course, I've been down this road before with the Prime. Eventually the Prime community found the tweaks and mods to make it fly, and I admit it was part of the fun to experiment and find ways to squeeze more performance and stability from the tablet.
My problems with the Infinity seem to exacerbate when RAM goes below 200k. I can see this from the Cool Tool widget. When I get below this level, the browser is generally unusable. I use a tool called startup cleaner to minimize what launches and tried to keep widgets to a minimum but my RAM seemed to always run low. Based on this same experience with the Prime, I changed the setting in developer options to limit background processes to 2. This does a good job keeping RAM above 400K, and when I do this it runs very well. No lag or ANRs, and everything seems very fluid.
This was an early temp fix with the Prime until other mods caught up, so I don't expect this to be required long term. However, the results are really are dramatic so far and enough to keep me from going the Note 10.1 route.

That's a good tweak, and one I hadn't tried before, so thanks!
If you're unlocked, I would advise you to run...don't walk, and flash TWRP recovery and then the Zeus rom v 4.0. This is a totally different machine on that rom.
There is also the trick of turning off animations in Developer Options or set the scale to .5. That helps with smoothness, too.
My advice is not to exchange over simple lagginess if all other hardware issue are ok. There is so much more that can and will be done on the software side, but if you exchange, what if you get a tab with a major hw problem?
I could not find this discussed for the TF700T.
Video and audio sync perfectly with the YouTube and Netflix apps. However, I'm an Amazon Prime member and watch alot of Prime Instant videos. Since there is no android app for that I'm limited to watching through a browser. I've tried Boat, the Stock browser, and ICS+. All present a significant lag of video vs. audio. Oddly, I did not have this problem with the Prime I returned for the Infinity.
Anyone else experiencing this? If you were you able to correct it, how?
Thanks
Nobody Has This Issue?
Over two hundred views and no one replies? Really?
You could try browser2ram.
Rooting and installing it has helped me with just about all my browser problems.
Thanks, but I am rooted and browser2ram hasn't helped.
Maybe the issue is on the Amazon server side.
People here don't reply if they don't have anything useful to say.
Wait a few days and see how Jelly Bean handles it?
Other than that, do you have Performance Mode enabled when watching them? Killed all pointless tasks? (Not just in taskmanager.)
After I rooted the device I froze/disabled all the bloatware. I've tried all three performance modes with no change in the video lag.
Does anyone successfully stream Amazon Instant Videos through a browser on their Infinity?
I just checked and i don't have noticeable sync problems. I'm running on 12 meg dsl. My understanding is you need at least 4. Meg to stream good quality. Apps like netflix go through special servers, that help with stream, browser probably doesn't. You cannot really compare. it amazes how low a bandwidth netflix can uses and still look reasonably good.

Just tried it myself and also have the audio lag in the default stock browser using browser2ram. Tried using Dolphin beta, which is usually pretty awesome and pretty damned close to the stock browser using browser2ram in terms of speed and it got hung up going into full screen mode. Flash is so god damned terrible on these devices, flash in general runs like champ on my S III. Very frustrating
Replace It, or Live With It?
Thank you all for the feedback.
Apparently this is not a ubiquitous Infinity issue. Therefore I must conclude something is F**'d on mine. Not knowing whether it is H/W or S/W related I think I'll wait until JB is released and replace the tablet if JB does not fix it. I still have a couple of weeks left on my 30 day return policy.
Again, thank you for the help.
UPDATE: Fixed?
Update: I may have found a fix for this. I was browsing the forum and under the GMAIL Crashes post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877292&page=2 I found a reference to FMR Memory Cleaner and the nvidia kernel driver bug. I installed FMR Memory cleaner and brought up the ICS+ browser. Lo and behold the video and audio are in sync with my Amazon Instant Videos!
It would be helpful if some of you who are experiencing the lag issue will test using FMR Memory Cleaner and post your results.
Thank zenaxe for the tip (I've used up my 8 per day "Thanks").
I've tried FMR memory cleaner and it did nothing to alleviate the audio lag on Amazon videos, I haven't read the thread on the nvidia driver bug but when mine is crashing in a game like Dead Trigger, the ONLY thing that works for me is a complete reboot which is annoying. FMR hasn't really ever helped me with most things except if the tab is being laggy and even then it's not 100% guaranteed to work for me
I've had the sync problem intermittently with flash video from several sources, including Amazon. I think mobile flash is the true culprit, and wouldn't be surprised if the problem recurs for you. Every now and then I try and different browser and think it works better, but eventually, it gets out of sync again.
On the Amazon front, I think the only real solution is the Instant Video App. To my knowledge, no one has either the old gingerbread app or the new ICS app ripped from the fire roms working on other ICS+ devices. Hopefully Amazon gets around to supporting Android in general.

I also had this problem on the Xoom and over on the Motorola forum the culprit pointed to there was Adobe Flash on ICS and Jelly Bean (worked great on HC) on certain processors.
As to Amazon porting their app to Android, I wouldn't hold my breath as my guess is that they don't want to draw business away from the Fire line (I have a Fire and Prime looks great on it). Amazon's Kindle app for Android (even on the Fire) lacks functionality that the original Kindle devices support, e.g., collections. It appears that either their Android development capabilities are limited or they are making a conscious decision not to fully embrace it.

ps There is a similar thread over on the Themes & Apps Forum -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803002 On that thread I posted some info on the flash problem that I gleaned from the Motorola Xoom forum.
IMO, it's just a matter of time before the port hits. Fires are meant to sell content, content isn't meant to sell Fires, which aren't exactly high margin if the hardware is profitable at all.
If they were really trying to avoid drawing business away from the fire, they wouldn't have released an iPad app. Hit up their support page and complain, and I think we'll see progress eventually.
I had the amazon apk working on one of the roms on my nook tablet. Changed rom and lost program compatibility. I don't why Amazon does not have app for other androids but they are certainly making the decision not to. I'm hoping when large Fire HD comes out it will work on other devices. Its nice what Fire does for many. Pretty much everything's done in background, my wife doesn't have to do anything, streaming prime is easy.

I searched but didn't find any general discussion threads. Pardon me if you find one.
Personally, I have been waiting my Fonepad this since it was announced in February, ever since I got my Note II last year I have wanted something bigger lol. I never geek out over phones the way I have been jacked up over this device. I bought it after pocket-testing a Nexus 7, I always carry my phone in my back pocket, and its a snug fit. I am 5' 7" 145lbs so I can sit on my phone you fat-asses. In order of importance, making
calls is fourth or fifth on my list of things my phone must do, so I think having a jumbo phone wont bother me (too much). I am headed out of town for the weekend and will post more if I think its relevant.
I GOT AT LEAST $50 TOWARDS THE COST OF A DEVICE FOR A DEVELOPER.
Pic is Fonepad v Note II v GS3. I would put an iphone if I had one lol.
Well i too ha e just bought the fonepad, such a great device for the price. I bought it for RM699. About $230 i think.
There's lots of 7" tablet with phone capability here in asia, so its not weird at all taking call from it. I guess. I mean even cute girls does it.

Also got mine weeks ago. Good build and battery life.
but some cons:
1. not an outdoor type tablet especially under direct sun, brightness not enough.
2. asus bundled keyboard are a joke, switch to android keyboard.
3. no root (yet) and seems a bit challenging to hack since its x86 cpu.
other than that its a great everyday phablet. Asians value practical than style. But using big phone can be hip too if more people doing it. :good:
its just great

its the best device ever....
I also just got my Fonepad, its only been a couple days and I love it, most of the bloatware can be disabled and so far it does everything I could want, and then some. A root would just be the cherry on top. Im also willing to buy future devs for this phablet some dinners as well.
I'm surprised it's not much more expensive than the Nexus 7 with mobile data, which some have used for phone calls:
androidpolice.com/2013/01/05/an-experiment-my-life-with-a-nexus-7-as-my-phone/
I've had my fonepad for about a fortnight now and I'm still loving it. It replaced my viewsonic viewpad 7 FroYo phone/tablet which was starting to show its age.
I use my fonepad as my primary phone via Bluetooth and despite a few niggles I'm very pleased with it. Most of my issues may be caused by my launcher (Apex) and are as follows:
1) minor crackling noises when browsing etcetera, whilst in a call (using Bluetooth)
2) The unlock screen shows upside-down (ie right to left rather than left to right when I turn on my screen) for a second or so - I should point out that I'm in permanent landscape mode.
3) The lack of root! (Mainly for clockwork mod, titanium, tasker, cryptonite)
4) Lack of rear camera (yeah, I'm using a UK model)
5) Lack of a case! Fortunately there's one due for release on the 30th.
Those niggles aside, my advice to anyone considering this tablet/phone (I refuse to use the word "Phablet") is to grab it quick, at the price it's unbeatable!

Hi Guys,
I got my fonepad 5 days ago and pretty happy with it.
I push 8 gb sd card into device and in the beginning all working ok. Then I (maybe) change something in settings that Asus don't recognize SD Card anymore. I can just hear music from SD card but files for UCCW or wallpapers could not be read.
I tried about all but cannot see any progress. Do someone know how to get it work again?
Thank you
speaker volume?
How is the loudspeaker volume? A couple of reviews said that it was satisfactory for voice calls and another said that it was rather muted, especially when playing music.

What case is coming out on the 30th? Do you have a link to the info.
I have had mine nearly 2 weeks and I like it much more than my old galaxy note, though the screen is really a smudge magnet.

Regretfully I was to quick. Flashplayer still doesn't work.
Don't know why Asus make it not workable for all.
Here is a Petition for Asus to unlock the bootloader for our device like they did with some other android tablets they made.

Someone made a separate benchmark ARM vs x86.
Made a post about his method here.
