I did some brief searching on this topic and while I didn't find anything, I apologize if this has already been answered. I also know next to nothing about Android development so apologies (again) if this is a ridiculous question.
I'm definitely interested in flashing a stable JB ROM eventually but there are a few things about Touchwiz I'm pretty happy with and I wanted to see if any of those features could be retained. Specifically, I like the Video Player's pop out feature and I also would like to keep some of the motion shortcuts (double tap top of phone to return to scroll to top of list, pan to move icon, tilt to zoom, smart stay, and a few others). Is it at all possible to keep some of the aforementioned features if I went to a custom JB ROM or are all of those dependent on having Touchwiz running? Thanks very much.
Those features are very heavily built into the touchwiz framework, referencing different parts of it in order to work as intended. Such features would have to be programmed from the ground up to work on AOSP unfortunately.
And yes this does belong in Q&A.

The Fryetech Rom for HTC Thunderbolt
After making a Windows and Mac program to automate the root process on the HTC Thunderbolt I have decided to put out my own rom.
I kind of did this for my self but I thought I would share. And I will be making it better over time.
I'm making this rom to be as smooth as possible.
This rom is kind of Nexus One inspired but is based off of the stock thunderbolt rom
Right now this is a beta. Just thought I would post it up anyways.
I will be working on it more tomorrow and so on.
By stock it has the imoseyon leanKernel normal v0.85
get setcpu from market to get your phone to 1.4Ghz Sable
Please report bugs here.
This has been updated.
Sorry I forgot to add the gallery + music app. So It has now been added.
Also cleaned up system for a lighter rom.
Video and Download here.

being an ex Nexus One owner, this rom brings me back. seems to be running smooth so far. will keep checking back for further updates and see how far you can get this
PS, this should be in the development section, just to let u know
on another note, you should take off the recent apps from the notification bar and replace it with them toggles a lot of roms have now. i think its a neat feature. just giving u some feed back
Running the 1.0RC very smooth so far, im liking it and looking foward to future updates.

Not really.. You're not allowed to post "Coming soon" threads in Development, buddy haha
This runs amazing. With great battery life

Would like to see what's different about this and any other ROM...? Looks pretty smooth and such.
If this is the wrong group I apologize. I posted it after not sleeping much for 3 days supporting people with the rooting scripts I put out there.
Keep it here lol great stuff though amazing battery life

Would it be to much to ask if I asked if this can be put into the development section? This rom is to bad ass not to be.

screenshots? i can't access youtube at my job, and i bet i'm not the only one
you'll get more hits if you post this in the dev section. wow, i never thought i'd see a proper dev thread misplaced in the general section. its always the other way around lol
edit: i saw the video. slick looking rom, makes me miss my nexus one

Think of cyanogenmod without the cyanogenmod features? Better yet, think of the nexus one.

Really nice looking ROM so far. Is there any plans to have Power Control Widgets added to your ROM in the future at least with the option to have them on/off. I know a number of ROMs on the Droid 1 had this feature.
I have noticed that moderators are frustrated with questions posted in this section, and I thought I would share my take on why this is the case and a little suggestion.
I think one of the reasons why people don't go to the Q&A section is because of its very title "Q&A."
When we go anywhere to get help (AT&T, Apple, nVidia, etc), we are often first redirected to their Q&A page, which is often NOT helpful (we've all had this experience, right?). So, we've developed a habit or subconscious avoidance of Q&A, thinking that it is not where we can get "real" help but rather a page that contains information that is too basic.
Now, I am not saying our Q&A section is like that. However, the title Q&A is associated with this negative experience we've had, so that makes it less likely for us to go there if/when we want real help.
So, my suggestion is that we use a different title for that section. I don't know what would be a good title, but maybe we can brainstorm here to come up with a good name for it?
GT
That actually makes a lot of sense when I think about it. Maybe just being called the "Help" section would be good.
Yea, I also noticed that the current Q&A section is not very well-organized. I mean, if you go there, the first page is filled with a bunch of stickies. That's not very user-friendly. It made me wanna just close out the page rather than reading down too many stickies.
Instead, they should create one sticky that holds lists/links to those stickies organized by topics.
+1. Something to consider.
I definitely agree the Help section is a better name.
I would call it support.

Ya that's my opinion too.
BTW, I changed that op and title on that other post, cuz after RE reading it, it sounded much more incendiary than I meant.

Is there a rom, for the Skyrocket, that is completely stock android like the nexus S, no extra apps, just the OS and Google apps.
Yes there is, or at least something very similar to that. Check the stickie at the top of this forum page that shows all the ROM's and has descriptions.
Also, this is a developer only section, you'll want to post questions like this in the "Q&A" forum.
*cough cough NexusMod cough* just kidding lawlz. nexusmod has touchwiz intact however and has some useful Samsung apps i like that don't come in the Nexus S
Mod I'm using it now LOL its good stuff

This is just a thread for devs to look up to when they are building custom ROMs for our beloved G3.
Apart from CMs there are many devs who are working on Froyo, which is the more stable ROM available for us. Hence this thread is a mere effort to thank them and also to post any suggestions or feature requests in this thread.
A sincere thanks to all devs who worked on G3 for their continued efforts to keep our mobile alive.
As and when a feature is requested in this thread, I will add it to the second post along with the requester's name.
So I would be pleased if this thread is used rather than spamming the development thread.

I inadvertently posted in this section. However I feel it would be good if it stays in this section as it will provide broad exposure.
However if the consensus is to move to general section, I will request MOD to move it.
Spell Checker seems to be missing from the S3. Where when you miss spelled a word it would underline it in red and you could tap it to see a list of suggested correct spellings. Searched around a bit and it seems that Samsung removed for whatever reason. Would love to see this come back. Anyone know of a mod/addon that would get this back?
After some more reading it seems that CM has this. I prefer to stay on TW (specifically Bonestock ROM)

Just download the Google Keyboard from the Play Store. It's the official Android 4.2.2 keyboard that has what you want.
