hey im new to this forum...im a RAZR MAXX owner ....but i recently was given a t-mobile mytouch 4g, dont know if this is the correct forum but if someone can help...please do....anyways i am trying to unlock the phone so my wife can use her metro account on it and also root it so i can start playing with it for her lol...so anyone that can help me here, it would be greatly appreciated....and again, im not sure if this is the correct forum, i know its a t-mobile HTC mytouch 4G....but i dont see any GLACIER written on it anywhere....but still help me if you can, thanks so much!

Metro as in MetroPCS? If so, MetroPCS only works with CDMA phones. The Glacier/MyTouch 4G is a GSM phone.
so basically there is nothing to be done lol....well anyways, i have the MAXX for VZW and originally it was CDMA but as of last month the ICS ota came through and now its GSM capable...so can i swap my sim to the mytouch just for ****s....if so, how do i unlock it and root ?

Mod Edit: Do not flame..
If you are on Gingerbread, you'll need to downgrade to FroYo to root. Go here.
Once on Froyo, use this to attain S-Off.
Then flash a custom recovery like Clockworkmod or 4EXT (my favorite) and flash away.
If you ask what the best ROM is I'll find you and stab you to death It will be out of kindness, I assure you.

i'm unlocked and rooted on my htc inspire 4g. and i'm running virtuous unity ROM.. is it possible to use Straight Talk on my already rooted phone?
Please post all question in the Q&A forums. We have gone through this already. A little research would have told you what you wanted to know. This being that once a phone is unlocked as long as you have the proper settings/apns and the phone supports the network bands that you want to use then yes you can use it on just about any GSM network.

Ive heard that you can flash the Skyrocket to T-mobile, and would be able to access it's 4g capabilities. I was just wondering how this could be done. Or even how to flash the skyrocket so I could use it on tmobile. I would like to use this experiance to help get me started in the android world... I was IOS user on and off and just bought this phone but, I have not been able to use it bc its locked. Any thoughts or ideas, would be much apperciated.. I am a new android rooter and barely know anything so please excuse me for future reference.

You have to pay to unlock the phone. Do some research in the development section on how to flash roms and custom recoveries. Youtube the crap out of rooting skyrocket. And to use 4g you have to have the right data plan and proper apn settings. The people here will help you but you have to tke the research initiative and show them your willing to learn. Or if you get too stumped pm me and ill try to help

I know that everyone that bought their phone from tmobile can just update it by going through their settings and doing it but mine can't. I currently have a unlocked tmobile sensation and I have at&t on it and the phone is rooted with a custom rom called Android Revolution HD 3.5.2 by mike1986 and it says my android version is 2.3.4. I have no idea what all of this is but a couple of months ago my cousin did this for me on my phone and now I'm trying to get ICS on this. Is there anyway I can do it? Is there a guide or anything?

I know that AT&T has a different partition layout, and I read something about having to change the MID, but couldnt I just download and flash the AT&T RUU? Or do I have to do anything else?
I read an article and found out most of everything, I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.
