I seriously can't figure the logic behind which device is bootloader locked and who decideds it to be.
For instance, from what I've read:
The Galaxy S III from AT&T is not locked but other AT&T phones are.
The Galaxy S III from Verizon is locked but others from Verizon are not.
You would think if the decision were the manufacturers, it would be all or nothing. Same with the Carrier.
What am I missing?
Well lets just hope the unlock process might be something to extend to our phones...... Easter egg?????

soi switched to verizon four months ago because att service has gotten crappy. now i ordered my verizon s3 and find out that the bootload is locked.... should i switch back to att or stay on verizon? what would yall do?
Is it worth an etf?
i'm on at&t and i'm pleased with my service. i don't live in a major city and i consistently get 6-8mbps down and 1-1.5mbps up. for normal browsing it is more than adequate. no issues with call quality.
i'm also pleased with my phone. with my current configuration (see sig) i'm getting 5000-5100 in quadrant. benchmarks aren't a perfect indicator of how good the phone is, but the number is still impressive.
go back to AT&T
AT&T LTE is faster and Verizon new Share Data isn't all that. Too little data for so much money. AT&T!
We only have 3g where I live for at&t and lte on Verizon. I would keep my Verizon line for home Wi-Fi.

At&t is very good to us, and the service here is amazing. Then again, Baltimore being so close to D.C. is probably the reason. LTE has been deployed here for awhile and the speeds are insane. We've always had issues with Verizon at my house

I always prefer gsm carriers to cdma ones. It feels weird having a phone that you cannot use if you travel abroad, especially europe where most carriets are gsm.
do you want locked bootloaders or better coverage?
Wonder if the locked bootloader is going to be a trend for Verizon?

Read the beginner's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650) to get an idea of where development for this phone is first. Locked bootloader (with no change in sight), an ICS update which has been moved from Q3 to an indefinite point in the future - it seems like Moto is trying to let this phone quietly die. If you're okay with that then sure, go for it... personally, I would opt for something made by a different company.
Locked down bootloader!
Enough said. I will give it a miss.
Thanks.

Glad I could help... I wish I had known when I bought the phone.
Be glad to trade my Atrix 2 for the Note!!!!!
It looks like AT&T is getting model SGH-i337.
Does anyone know if Canada will be the same, or if it will be the 9505?
Just thinking ahead to ROMs and exploits.
I believe we are getting sgh-i337M

Ugh. That surely complicates using custom ROM's? Or can we use 9505 ROM with the correct radio ? Sorry, been awhile since I had an SGS II and it was an Int'l one for this reason!

I know there are a few custom rom ports for the galaxy note 2 LTE from the International Galaxy Note 2. I am sure there will be some custom roms that will be ported to work on our galaxy s 4. Europeans are getting some of the galaxy s 4s with the same hardware as we are.
I have been reading today, the bootloader may be locked on the galaxy s 4.

Hello fellow excited GS4 waiting Canadians! Is there a pre-order and arrival thread for us?
thanks
If you preordered through bestbuy canada, it is a mess, no s4 at least until wednesday next week.i was told today, they are having a hardtime to get phones even for pre-orders. There is a shortage of phones for the galaxy s 4 launch date

Canadian shortage confirmed
http://mobilesyrup.com/2013/04/26/s...omises-to-fulfill-demand-in-the-coming-weeks/
I've been using a SGS3 (GT-I9100) for about a year now. My area didn't have LTE and I wanted better access to ROMS,so it fit the bill perfectly.
Now that LTE is available in my area, would the 337 or 9505 (lack or 1700MHz LTE the only key difference?) have better options for ROMs?
Any guesses at this early stage in the game?
You may’ve heard that carriers all around the globe where Samsung Galaxy S4 has been launched are struggling to keep up with the enormous demand. In Canada, we’ve seen TELUS offering $50 $100 credit to customers willing to wait for two weeks to get their unit.
Samsung Canada is well aware of the problem not just TELUS but all other operators in the country are facing – there are still not enough Galaxy S4 units out there.
Those who pre-ordered Sammy’s flagship should be getting their phones now. That “should” is there because not everyone will get it at the same time. Pretty much all Canadian carrier issued a statement saying that pre-registration numbers are higher than any other device before, including the S3.
Samsung on its behalf is asking users for understanding. Here’s what they said on Facebook:
Samsung is excited to see the level of pre-orders that Canadian consumers have for the GALAXY S4. Samsung Canada had intended to ship pre-orders by the 27th, but due to the overwhelming global demand of the Samsung GALAXY S4, we will not be able to meet the pre-order date of April 27th for all customers. These orders remain the highest priority with carrier and retail partners and will be fulfilled in the coming days.
No doubt, this is a sweet problem for the Korean company and its shareholders…
Anybody got his hands on it??
I got my Telus galaxy S4 on Saturday at BestBuy.

I have one pre-ordered for May 3rd. Was told it may come sooner, on May 1st.
Would like to see if I can get my hands on one for Bell asap.
OT: should we be discussing the Canadian S4 in the ATT S4 forum now? Seems that info for us is all over the place now:

Can you comment on whether the Telus bootloader is locked? Have you tried to root with the "AT&T" exploit?
I have not attempted to root yet. I do not think the bootloader is locked through. I will root when a custom recovery is avialable and stock rom is as well.

I don't blame you I believe you can tell if the BL is locked by booting into the (stock) recovery? I'll feel much better if Canadian BL's are unlocked as I know I'm going to hate Touchwiz and there's plenty of talk about lag.
There is no lag on my telus s4. There is only one carrier app. The at&t version I hear has lot of bloat. My s4 is lot faster
Than my note 2 and just as smooth.

Could you boot to recovery and look for WRITE PROTECTION: Enable? That'll let us confirm if it's locked or not.

I don't believe we'll be receiving the i9505 in canada. The i9505 only houses LTE Bands 1800 , 2100, 2600, 800 , 900. It's missing 1900, so chances are we are getting the SGH-i337 and i337m which support our LTE freqencies in Canada.
. Adam outler is working on a way to unlock bootloader. Go to the at&t galaxy s 4 forum. They have the same phone model.

But they don't have the same phone model. As you know it's I337 vs. our I337M and bootloader locking comes down to the carrier.
Software is a little different but hardware is the same. Galaxy s 3, note and the note 2 were the same other than the software.

Yes, but my point is that their bootloader being locked is due to a request by AT&T. We do not know if the Rogers, Bell, and Telus requested locked bootloaders yet.

The Canadian carriers might not lock their devices, but if they do, the ATT unlocking method (if/when it comes) will apply to us. Thats why we should be watching that forum much closer than this one.
This thread really is in the wrong forum; what will be released in Canada will have very little to do with the device listed at the top of these forums (the Exynos S4). If you are Canadian I would stay very far away from any exploits posted over here.
Well, to get back on-topic, I just received an email from Fido saying my phone has been shipped to my local store by UPS. I am guessing it will arrive tomorrow.
My position on the reserve dropped from 268 to 263 on launch day at Rogers but I've been sitting at 263 ever since.
Title. Not sure if I'd do it, though.
Not in a million years. I'd rather have the 2012 model anyway, though.

A lot of things should be and probably will be better than the RAZR HD with the X. But after all your current isn't that bad though other brand owners will tell u it's rubbish Not going to get the option in the UK
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
I don't think I would trade my MAXX HD in right now, but I can tell you I hope some of the devs are able to port the firmware over. While I doubt I would use touchless controls, the new notification system is something I can see myself using a lot.
i guess two questions pop into my head...why would you want to, and why should they?
If you complain enough you *might* be able to get a alternate device swap for it but it would be rough. If you have an unlocked bootloader on your HD you are giving that up as the Moto X on Verizon does not have an unlocked bootloader. The dev version will though.
I guess the way I look at it is the Razr HD will eventually get 4.2.2 or 4.3 and if I cant wait i will just enjoy CyanogenMod until they do. Now if you have a regular Razr HD and not the MAXX and you have a locked bootloader or dont care about locked bootloaders then go for the X. Just complain enough and they will probably let you switch. I would wait a month though after its released to try as you dont get a new X or any new device as you only get refurbs. Have to give time for refurbs to show up in order for them to think about switching you.
I complained alot and they kept asking me to send my phone for repair. After three sends, I gave up, unlocked the bootloader and installed a custom rom. No more over heating issues now.
