A search has not fully answered my question. After having to factory reset today, I noticed my calendar (I input from the phone itself) did not sync with google calendar and back things up. I lost prior three weeks and next two weeks of appts. After looking through settings of the calendar app and the phone itself and messing with it, it still doesn't sync. Is there something missing? I noticed some others in the search had similar problems, but couldn't tell if they were the same as mine or not. Thanks!
stupid question but under your Gmail account you have calendar set to sync right? What happens when you tap the sync icon, does it sync or error out?

Yes the calendar is set to sync, when I sync it says it does. But again, if I check google calendar elsewhere, it hasn't changed.
Make sure you have your google calendar selected when adding events. The phone has its own calendar as well as all your google candidates that you have permission to write with. Perhaps you were writing to the phone's calendar instead of your google one?

Hello,
I just installed the current OTA for my Vodafone Sensation. And what do I see after that? The Sync symbol is now for 15 minutes in the task menu. And now I received a notification that I have new mails in my google account! the complete google account is set to sync off since I get my phone. Now it is still set off.
What's going on? What is this update doing? What is being synced now besides the googlemails? If now my whole google account is synced... uahhhh
I am very angry!
There are two email programs on the Sensation - Gmail and Email. Make sure both are set the way you want, otherwise they'll both try to keep syncing.

Where are you from? I have a vodafone branded sensation but there is no update available for me in the uk

Hello kevsteele,
I use K-9 Mail. There I have no google mail account configured.
The mail programm from HTC/Android is only configured with my vodafone e-mail account.
So, I can't even read these 3 mails I was notified about.. :/
I aborted the sync.
After that I checked the Account settings in the "accounts and sync" options:
google is still not checked! So it should not sync. But now I see that gogole mail, picasa web and calendar have been synced these minutes. Contacts not!
In my google online account I can't see any synced data like calendar... but what's the point?
When bugs like these happen, try to enable and reboot, then disable. It is what I always do on phones and computers etc

Yes me too... I did that...
The sync Symbol is after the update nearly all the time visible. Is that also on your phones like that?
noone else got this problem? in some german baords there are also some other user having this sync problem...
My sync symbol now remains on permanently after the update.

This happened with me too immediately after the update. I did an empty cache/data of all Gmail related services under "manage applications" so now it cannot automatically sync unless I manually do so.
I logged into my google account on the web I use for my phone and I was shocked to see the information Google collected about my use of the device. It collected phone numbers from my contacts, even the pictures I asigned to them, calendar appointments...I can understand there are Market applications I downloaded, but come on, contacts and appointments? Is this phone not mine? Which applications do this and how can I prevent it from happening? I thought I don't have sync on....

Hi,
What ROM are you using?
On mike1986 's latest,he has removed the HTC LOGGERS and various other Spyware apps which HTC have installed.
Worth checking out.
See my sig
Also ROM CLEANER
This will remove the spyware from any ROM when you install it.
I did not put any other rom on the phone because I don't know how. I'm afraid that rom cleaner may be a little bit out of my abilities. I don't quite understand what is going on with this whole data collection even...

I see! I found it in apps. Google Backup Transport. There is also Google Clanedar Sync and Google Contacts sync. Darn! I guess it's not safe to remove these applications with root uninstaller?
Just untick the sync options in Settings if you're that bothered. I actually like having it so all my contacts can be moved between Android devices that I sync to my account

Anything that was already sync'd before you unchecked the box will remain there...you can safely delete them from your online Google account. Have you never read or heard that this is one of the advantages/core features of android?
But don't call tech support or cry when you have to either replace or master reset your phone and lose all your stuff.
I have a whole closet full of android devices and I love the fact that I can grab my 2-1/2 year old G1 and log into it and instantly be reminded of my appointment that afternoon without having to worry about anything.

I had sync OFF since I bought the device about a month ago, and it STILL happens, I know this becuase it also synced my NEWEST contatcs (two that I added just this week) and appoinments, so this is not me being that dumb lol. I have all my contacts on my sim card, that is where I want them and I don't need google to collect them for me.
Try altering the settings from your google account online. Like go into google calendar from a computer, and don't let it sync to anything. Likewise with contacts.

Not to be rude, but it strikes me how many people are like this, just because some random fool found out how to read out location data from a iPhail they fear every possible logging feature, unless your a cd printing piratebay connected child molester, nobody will look at your logs, calm down.
And its google, you can just configure you dont want it, either in initial setup (first boot) or in the settings as mentioned above.
Thing is, though, as soon as you sign into your Gmail account when setting up the phone it's automatically syncs the contacts. You could turn off sync, delete them from the phone and online and then it shouldn't sync up again but if that doesn't work I don't think you can get around it. How you can still have numbers on a SIM is beyond me - I prefer all contact details under 1 entry personally
lol so using google for sensitive-info emails is ok, but some contacts and calender items are taboo?
Is anyone else having this issue? I only use one calendar and for some reason all my events are multiplied by 4 and I just have a feeling it's going to get worse. Does anyone have a fix for this. Running fully stocked.

Have the same thing going on with my work email, removing the account and readding it fixes it for a couple hours then it does it again. Also my contacts are multiplying.

Damn! Just looked at my contacts. Not good. It's almost like a mirror effect going on. I have a bad feeling it's just going to keep doubling until I have no room. I wonder if backup assistance is causing the problem?

I'm not using backup assistant, figured it was happening to me from a couple dirty flashes, but if you are running stock then that's not the case.

I had a similar problem on my Incredible because I have multiple Google accounts that have access to each other's calendars, so it would show all my events 2 and 3 times. Check your calendar settings and make sure it only shows one occurrence for each calendar name. Hope that helps.

I've been looking for a setting option like that for the last hour. Are you sure it exists on this phone? If so, I'd be grateful for your direction.
I deleted my corporate email and added it again. I'm no longer syncing contacts that's for sure.

There are 2 places to look...
First, go under settings -> Accounts and sync. Check each account to see if "Sync Calendar" is checked.
Second, at the top of the calendar app main screen, hit the "Calendars" button. This will give you a list of available calendars to display. Mine has:
My Calendar = checked
My Tasks = checked
[email protected] with an arrow to expand showing my calendar (checked) and US holidays (unchecked)
[email protected] with an arrow to expand showing my calendar (checked), [email protected] (UNchecked), and US holidays (unchecked)
Show birthday with an arrow to expand showing "Contacts' birthdays" which is checked.
I left my other gmail accounts off this phone since I check them enough from work.
The problem I ran into on my Inc was from having my badseed767 calendar checked on 3 different accounts. Once I unchecked it on the extra accounts, it only showed up once.
Hope this helps.
No, but I appreciate the attempt. I was hoping there really was a way to ignore "same name" events. I had found the calendars menu and made sure only one of each account was checked and it was still multiplying everything. Then again it might have been too late since the events already multiplied. So this is what I did.
Deleted the email account. Joined all my contacts that could be combined. Setup the corporate email again and only synced the calendar and email. Went into calendar as you suggested above and made sure that only one corporate email was checked, then synced. So far no duplicates.

Sounds positive. I'm curious, do you have the Google sync thing running on a pc that syncs outlook to Google? Also, can you give us so insight on the exchange server? Curious if those having issues are imapi or pop3 configured etc.

Well... I honestly don't know. I'm new to Samsung/TWiz phones for the most part and I'm still trying to find my way around through all the settings.
As for Google being synced to Outlook, no, not intentionally at least. The only syncing I've done with Google has been on my phones. Hell, if I didn't have a phone, I'd never even look at gmail.
If I was on my HTC phone, I'd be able to answer your question on the server. Is there a way for me to see that somewhere in the settings? Haven't found it yet. If not, I'll try setting my phone up on my wife's phone(my old Rezound). However, I love to know where I can find that if it's an option.
EDIT: I can't find your answer. It's a corporate email if that helps.

Well, my plan didn't work. Events doubled. This is starting to drive me crazy!

I just went into my Google account settings in my phone to check if the new sync app data feature was implemented already and noticed that across all of my Google accounts I have linked to my phone most of my syncs were unchecked (including my Gmail sync and calender) just thought I would inform you guys in case some rely on the gmail notification for work related tasks or what not, since when I checked sync I had 11 missed gmail notifications.
I had same issue,I noticed my daily gmail hadn't come through today checked my accounts sync and all were unchecked, rechecked and all was well

I didn't have this issue either, strange.
Either way, I felt like it was worth everyone to check just in case

Basically nexus 5 contacts disappeared. Running stock android 4.4 on t mobile. All contacts in people app have disappeared, except PayPal it seems. Strangely in Hangouts main screen it shows the names of contacts still, but if i try to call someone using the phone button in hangouts it shows just the number and no name. Ive tried manually syncing, and all settings "seem" to be fine. Any ideas?
Try logging into your Gmail account in your browser and see your contacts are even still there to be synced with your phone.

If your contacts aren't even showing in your browser then something wrong happened. Hopefully you didn't delete your contacts somehow but that's what it looks like. Maybe try and contact Google?
