What I need to know? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ok, so basically I may, probably, hopefully, get a One X either tomorrow or on the weekend. If it does happen, once I have the phone, all I need to do is use the one-click root method to root my phone and then unlock the bootloader via the link provided on the same one-click root thread and I'll be ready to flash Roms? Also, how different is flashing a Rom n using Recovery on the One X from the Evo 4G? I'm coming from an E4G... Thanks in advance.!

basic answer
As far as I know, the process that you need to do is the same from what we all did.
-root your phone
-unlock bootloader
-install twrp recovery (the only recovery officially proven to work on our phones)
-flash roms!
-flash other stuff that you want (must be compatible with your rom
Other than that, you are good to go. You could not have gotten a one x on a better time. The kernel source was just released last night, and we are all in for a lot of awesomeness moving forward.

so I just noticed my hox (yaay i got it today) is 1.73, i was thinking of rooting it but for the 1.73 one click root method I have to download "onxr.zip" and the links appear to be broken... so should I update to 1.85? and if I should, how do I do it? via at&t software update?

Doing a software update will kill any chance of getting root. I'll update this post with a way to root 1.73 soon

well thanks for lettin me know about the software update, but thit is the same page i tried to download the root.zip from, it riderects me here: http://briefmobile.com/how-to-root-htc-one-x-att and there it tells me to download the onxr.zip and i tried both the link and the mirror and both appear to be broken... so unless the 1.85 one click root works with 1.73, any other suggestions? Im up for anything I just want this phone rooted!! Thnx

From what I understand if you OTA it will give you 2.20 someone can correct me if wrong but I think it goes to the most current.

Yup you are correct the ota will give you 2.20 but the original root method for the 1.73 did not require you to search for an update to get root. It was much easier on 1.73. 1.85 broke that exploit and now 2.20 broke the 1.85 exploit

Quick question to the OP. Have you modified this to work with the A2? If not we've been down this road already and there will be consequences if you try to perform a recovery from a backup with this

Guys as JRW 28 has said.
This has been tried and done with fatal issues. Until nytroglcerin33 gets the official CWM package updated, there is not much I would try with this, we have done backups and restores, as well as attempted a flash or two with NO SUCCESS.
I am not trying to be a pain here, but there are some of us who have been working on these things for almost two months since this phone came out, try a search in the Atrix2 section next time as there is a thread already about this, and until we get the bootloader unlocked we are going to have very limited abilities on this phone to develop, if you want to help out someplace go jump in there.

No worries, that was not aimed at anyone, it was more in genral, so that anyone who reads this sees that this is a very slippery slope right now, we have had at least 2 people that we know of, who bricked their phones using the / a similar method that was in the OP here.

I wouldn't say I have had no success... I'm able to backup and restore system and data using that atrix 2 recovery. In fact, the bionic one worked as well but I only used it a couple of times.
I've been using it to go back and forth between 55.11.16 and 55.13.16, 8 or 9 flashes so far without a brick.
inb4 next flash bricks my phone
I think we should have our moderator swoop in and sticky the important things. It seems were not getting much love from him around here. It's kind of an annoyance to me that topics fall back a page or two then are reintroduced as a new thread a week later. Just saying.

Looks like the devs are not working on Root for 1.85

Arg....seems like the devs have moved on to getting s-off and coming out with new roms and have given up on finding exploits to root 1.85. The threads for root have been empty for a while now...wondering if its time to exchange the phone or return it and want for the sg3?
I know i'm not the only person frustrated for upgrading to 1.85....
I thought you could RUU back to 1.82 if you wanted and then root?

You can. That is what I did. It's pretty simple.
Revert to 1.82, root,
one click superCID
relock in fast boot
ruu 1.85
flash the unlock token from fastboot, it took me a few tries before it took
flash a recovery (twrp is working well for us right now)
and then use the recovery to flash the SU zip file. Then you're all set
Well this is how it works.
Once you update your RUU to 1.85 then install CWM (flashing utility in recovery) You will just flash the Rom you wish this will give you root.
Hope this clears things up?
I'm unclear on the rooted 1.85 but from what I gather you have to have done superCID hack before upgrading to be able to gain root. I believe you have to also have superCID to do ruu to a previous firmware. I may be wrong but if your on 1.85 without superCID I think your SOL for now atleast.

Yes, it's simply amazing how many people will write such non-useful crap that serves no useful purpose.
Look, we've all been there. We all had to learn from the beginning at some point.
I'm also sick of people lobbing ignorant comments my way when it comes to some of the things I do for others, especially here on xda. Case in point ...
Over the last three days I've prepared a 36-page manual that describes, in great detail, how to do virtually everything on a ONE X. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678308
It's sad when, after working an average of 70 hours per week as President an owner of my LED lighting company, plus having a 2-1/2-year-old at home, who's a wonderful challenge, plus having issues with my 82-year-old mother suffering from Alzheimers, I still MAKE time to help others, most especially here on xda. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. As I said above, we've all been there, and I'm quite sick and tired of so many others (THEY shall remain nameless), who can't spend a few extra seconds of their precious time to provide a better explanation than the simple "just do it in fastboot," or "use adb," etc.
Yes, I've now learned exactly what these two simple statements mean, but it really would have been nice, and far, far, far easier not just for me, but everyone if, instead of saying the following ...
flash it in fastboot
...they instead said something like ...
open a command prompt, navigate to your adb folder, and flash in fastboot using the following line:
fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxx.img
Wow, it took me an extra 10 seconds. Oh, my goodness, my fingers are now so sore. I think I'll head to the hospital. Be back later.
Peter
P.S. And don't anyone dare tell me, like someone did yesterday, that I should basically shut up and stop "sassing" (their word) the developers because they work so hard at what they do. You know, I probably work as hard if not MUCH harder than most of them, yet I will always try my very best to give some of my time to others. Again, as I said above, it's the right thing to do. You know, maybe if more people did just that, the world wouldn't be so full of self-centred, egotistical ingrates.

It also seems like Samsung devices are not as difficult to deal with than HTC and the locked bootloader and S-On.

Stuck in bootloop

So, I'll admit that this is my first android phone and I'll admit that I didn't take a bunch of time to learn anything about what I needed to do before rooting and unlocking and flashing and everything else.
My problem is, I've unlocked my bootloader just fine and I rooted my phone just fine. The problem came when I found Android Revolution HD, from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603, and wanted it. I didn't understand how to flash a new ROM or anything, but I went ahead and tried. I flashed several different boot images and recoveries so I don't even know where to begin. I flashed recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.0-endeavoru and tried to use the boot.img from the link I posted. Now I can't boot into recovery or restart my phone or even do a factory reset. I'm afraid that I messed everything up to the point where I need a new phone or something. I know I should have spent more time with this before diving into it, I was just excited. Is there anything I can do? I'm sorry if my problem is vague..

first of all, you flashed a ROM and recovery not meant for your phone. Our One X is a snapdragon based phone codenamed evita.
can you get to boot loader anymore?
if so relock it
then install the factory RUU that matches the version you had before, probably 1.85
then spend about 2 or 3 weeks reading the threads in OUR development section before you unlock the bootloader and flash anything else.

This mistake is very easy to make for someone who just bought a phone. I know that the credo at XDA is rtfm but the mods of the respective forums really ought to make the effort to make the distinction more obvious.
HTC and AT&T should have done that.
Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

One problem is when you search xda one XL in Google, the first link is actually the correct forum.... however right under that it lists:

HTC one x Themes and apps..
Etc etc...

I know I made the same mistake in my first ROM flashing experience. And I even knew that ROMs for the International One X were incompatible! I just had no idea what "endeavoru" meant.
Since then, I've been keeping track of many HTC One X terms, which I highly recommend the original poster take a peek at.

Revolution HD seems to be a popular ROM for the International One X. Maybe they should explicitly note in the OP that it will likely brick an AT&T One X if flashed (if they don't already!)
This may also be a good thread to take a look at (if you don't feel bad enough already!)

Radios??

Hi there. Recently my shift has been amazingly slow. In areas that I used to be able to download at very fast speeds, I'm getting 6.1 kB/s. That's not reasonable, especially because I use my phone heavily. I researched this problem and saw that it may be a problem with my radio being old. Could anyone refer me to a guide to flashing radios? And will the radios be compatible with my rom? I'm running CM7.2 RC3. Thank you in advance.

Could anyone refer me to a guide to flashing radios? And will the radios be compatible with my rom? I'm running CM7.2 RC3. Thank you in advance.

Run the 2.77.651.3 RUU, then root using Indirect's script and flash your CM7 rom.
RUU's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335068
Indirects root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558532
Don't bother running the 2.77.651.8 RUU because the radio's are the same, they only patched an exploit in that one

That's a ton of work for a radio. The shifts radios aren't tied to your hboot so just extracting the radio and making a PGzip and flashing it in bootloader makes the most since if your s-off.. It's dangerous like anything flashed from bootloader but that should be common sense to any rooted user.
IF YOU DO THIS, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK,AND DONT BLAME ME FOR BRICKS.understand what your doing before you do it

Yeah I realized that there is a much easier way to do it...theres a rooted version of the 2.77.651.8 update floating around somewhere, just get that zip, rename to PG06IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard (then reboot to bootloader to install). When it's done installing just reboot, then boot into recovery and flash your CM7 rom again.
EDIT: The rooted stock is HERE
Thank you for the help. But also, what are the things that can go wrong? It's my first time flashing a radio and I do not want to brick my phone at any cost.

Okay to get the radio don't use my posted ota.
Your going to need the RUU.exeand windows and once it's downloaded open it up, but don't touch anything open run from start menu and type %temp% and it will open a window with the temp location of the RUU. Grab ROM.zip and drag it to your desktop and close the window and RUU. Inside ROM.zip is the radio hboot system.img boot.img ect. Thats where i would get the radio. Then make your PGzip and flash from bootloader. The risk of bricking is when you flash a radio not meant for your device or if it's corrupt so be careful and read read and read to be sure of of what your doing

Ah ok, I didn't actually download it and see myself, but I was suggesting that he install it through the bootloader by making a PG06IMG, not through recovery btw.
I don't know what the actual format of the rooted stock you posted is, but I probably should have checked.

Um aren't the actual radios posted here in the Shift forum? Or are they 404'd? Cuz I got em if somebody really needs em.

I was considering just flashing the radio as shown by VICODAN on that post of his. Will that be okay? It's annoying dealing with this amazingly slow connection.

Finally! Got it working. Had problems with adb not recognizing my device. Fixed that with driver updates with htc sync. Then pushed PGO6IMG.zip from adb and rebooted bootloader, applied update, and hello 500 kB/s. Thank you to all of you. Question answered.

No problem, glad you got it working. I know what it's like to have crappy data speeds... I lived somewhere for 3 months where I only got 2G lol

And then I left AT&T lol

Did I do something?

I was running Venom ROM ICS and wanted to try out the JB version so I download it and it boots up and naturally, I start to play around. I installed titanium backup again to get my things back and it tells me I have no root. I say whaaaaa!? I then download a rootchecker app from the store and it confirms I have no root. How the world did that happen?
I panicked and booted into recovery and restored the backup I made before flashing the ROM. Now I can get back into fastboot and recovery but when I try to boot up it is a black screen. Should I RUU and start all over or am I salvageable?
