NEEDS ROOT
I) What it does:
- allows sending sms messages in unicode mode, which means you will be able to use up all 160 characters in single message, whether or not using specific for chosen language diacritical marks. Operation should be similar to 'GSM mode' in Samsung's default Mms app in FroYo 2.2 roms [works in all]
- removes auto-convert to mms if exceeding 480 characters (3 x sms length) [confirmed in Mms.apk and Mms v4.0.4.apk]
- no smiley on keyboard, new line support instead (thanks to mikko3024) [should work in all apks except Mms.apk and Mms v4.0.4.apk]
- a little bit bigger text message box (when it expands) so you can have a better view of your text, not much scrolling [should work in all apks except Mms.apk and Mms v4.0.4.apk]
II) When / where does it work:
- CM7 based roms - download Mms or MmsCM7.apk
- ICS 4.0.4 based roms - download Mms v4.0.4.apk, MmsICS.apk or ics_mms_160char_by_theos0o.zip
- JB - download MmsJB.apk or jb_mms_160char_by_theos0o.zip
- CM10 - download cm10_mms_160char_signed.zip or Mms_4.1.2.apk
- CM10.1 - app bundled with rom is already able to strip unicode (Mms-CM10.1.apk)
- apps are deodexed, but will work with both odexed and deodexed roms
III) How to apply:
- Backup / copy /move your original Mms.apk from system / app. If you have one you might as well backup Mms.odex. Delete them from system / app (putting deodexed = modified app in the place of both odexed .apk and .odex file works well).
- put downloaded apk in system / app
- change permissions to rw-r--r--
- rename to Mms.apk
- tick 'strip unicode' in app settings
- reboot is not necessary
All might be done using Solid Explorer / ES File Explorer / Root Explorer / ADB.
OR
- Flash .zip from recovery
IV) Disclaimer:
- Tested by me on CM7 Alpha 8 by marcellusbe with GSM / UMTS network for Polish language
- CM7 app looks no different than standard one
- ICS app should have additional option visible in app settings, didn't test it
- Feel free to report apps compatibility with different roms/languages
- More info can be found in respective original threads
- sources by theos0o (MMS_160charsmod_v2) in attachements and in original thread

What I meant was: if you happen to have odexed rom, just replace the .apk file, no need to move .odex one  It will work. But I agree that this sentence was somewhat confusing.
Cześć,
What are the differences between MmsICS.apk (2.05 MB) and ics_mms_160char_by_theos0o.zip (2.17 MB)?
I found a bug in the version for ICS by theos0o.
When I want to send a message by going from the phone/contact app (by long press on some person card) this application (MMS apk) turns off.
In addition, it is not possible to send MMSes. Receiving MMSes works fine.
Also the sound of an incoming message is strangely quiet, even though the phone settings is OK (in the "stock" application from Vipers ROM sound was OK).

That's too many bugs to be caused by single apk IMO, something's wrong with compatibility or installation process. Try other mms apks, wiping cache/dalvik, fixing permissions, clearing app's cache / data, ultimately wiping data. Good luck.
Added fresh CM10 4.1.2 mms.apk here and in OP.
I'm curious that ViperS rom is using Massage.apk not MMS.apk and this apk from Vipers rom is different than your MMS for ICS apk.
There is no bubble style, different options in config and it looks different...
Newest Vipers ROM is based on ICS but mayby mms apk was from GB?
Can someone post screenshots from GB version?
I will try to fix mismatches and perform zipalign. I already tried cleaning cache and dalvik cache and it did not help.
/edit: can I push jb or gb mms.apk into ics?
/edit2: I think that your MmsICS.apk is already from JB Am I wrong?
/edit3: Oh, and there is one more... I can't install apk manually... I only can flash it from zip. When I try to install it manually I'm getting info that this apk is not installed (I don't know exact translation couse I got this in Polish).
Tried all of the ICS edition versions and I'm still only getting 80 characters sending limit on my Acura ICS (4.0.4) P920.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I presume you have already chosen 'strip unicode' option in app settings, provided you can see such a thing? What language are you trying to write in? This mod should work with: Greek, Czech, Spanish, French, Polish, Portuguese and Slovak. You can try and talk to theos0o in his thread.
what about the samsung users with stock jb rom that not contains mms.apk?
Don't you have an option in message app's settings, encoding mode, sending mode or the like? GSM mode is what you should be looking for.

Is there any way to get the logs tab to show just phone calls? I know I can filter with incoming, outgoing and missed but can I have all 3 at the same time. I have no idea why they thought putting messages in the logs section was a good idea....thats what I have my messages icon for....
nothin, no one??
Remove SMS and MMS from call log.
Seriously, is there a fix to remove sms and mms from the call log?
I know the custom roms have found a way to remove it,
but Im not ready to take the plunge on one of the custom ROMS's on this phone just yet.
My Samsung Epic did the same thing, and there was a fix for it posted on XDA... Thanks k0nane.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1011678.html
Ill dig into that fix tonight, and see if I can find a way to fix the infuse...
Why cant Sammy just roll it out working...
While on the "Logs" screen, touch the menu button on the bottom left, and choose "View by". The default is "All logs", but if you choose Missed Calls, Dialed Calls, etc, it will only show the calls, and not your text messages. (I apologize if this is what you were already talking about when you mentioned filtering via incoming, outgoing and missed).
I'm running on the Infused ROM, so I'm not sure if this is just a feature for the ROM itself.
SOLUTION - Will Confirm after I try tonight... Thanks h8rift and gtg465x

Your thoughts were correct. Move the Refuse LogsProvider.apk to a stock ROM and it will work.
Hello,
I am running the stock rom on my girlfriends Infuse 4G. (she is not quite ready for a custom ROM yet, this is her first Android phone.) I want to fix the sms and mms logs in the call log, and had the same problem on my Epic 4G. To fix, we modified the Logprovider.apk in the system file.
I am downloading the Refuse rom now, and was wondering if I extract that file, and root explorer to the correct location in the stock rom, and overwrite the stock logs provider.apk, if you think that would work.
I have her rooted, modified 3e recovery, and clockwork installed...
I know others in the forum were looking to fix this on the stock ROM.
Please let me know if you think this could work, if not, could you modify the stock logprovider.apk to not include the sms and mms in call log.
I really appreciate your help... If you can help! I wont hesitate to give you credit for the fix in our forum posts.
Thanks Again!

SOLVED - Call Log - MMS/SMS Deleted on STOCK ROM Thanks h8rift
Ok, I got the SMS and MMS to not show up in the Call log... Running UCKE3 Stock Froyo ROM.
Its pretty simple, even a noob can do it... Thanks for the file h8rift
*Must be rooted, with root explorer or other file explorer that allows system access installed. ALWAYS BACKUP BEFORE CHANGING SYSTEM FILES, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED PHONES, OR LOST DATA.
Download attached Logsprovider.apk (taken from the Refuse v1.6 ROM)
copy file, and place on the root of your SD Card.
place sd back in phone, and boot phone.
when fully booted go to root explorer, navigate to the External SD Card and copy the Logsprovider.apk file that you just copied to there.
mount system as r/w so you have read and write access.
press back, back, go to system then app and paste the Logsprovider.apk file
yes to overwrite the logsprovider.apk already on phone,
VERY Important, also delete Logsprovider.odex while in the same folder.
reboot the phone, and enjoy NO SMS or MMS in your call log.

Barebones Remix V3.0: http://www.multiupload.com/G3RNGFW2S0
The barebones remix was an idea we came up with for those like me, who instantly remove a bunch of apps included in a ROM right after flashing it. This version includes the same features as the original, just has most of the non-necessary apps. Pretty much anything that can be downloaded from the market is removed, here's a removed apps list from tylermaciaszek (Thanks!)

- Put zip file in your /sdcard
- Reboot into cwm recovery
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
(Optional but recommended to prevent any minor issues)-Wipe Dalvik Cache from advanced menu in CWM
*Now before you Flash, Only if you are on the orange CWM, (Not RED voodoo CWM from Bali) if on red CWM ignore the mounts/unmount part*
MAKE SURE YOUR MOUNTS LOOK LIKE THIS: (Go to mounts and storage from CWM recovery)
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
MOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM - this is the ONLY mount you pay mind to, not Sdcard or anything else

- Now its safe to Flash the .zip
(AGAIN IGNORE UNLESS IF YOU ARE ON A RED VOODOO RECOVERY) after you flash, go back to mounts and storage and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
UNMOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
(Optional but recommended)-Wipe Cache then Wipe Dalvik Cache from advanced menu in CWM before Rebooting.
(To First Time installers, System Needs to be set to Unmount, though it would really be mounted. If you do Not do this you will have a softbrick and will have to ODIN to stock and start all over ....) Once you have Flashed a Custom ROM or Bali 2.2 Kernel you dont have to worry about mounts

i don't have any TW problems! I'm actually a huge fan of it now because of this rom
also is anyone else having a problem deleting pictures i delete but they stay there until the reboot
I also had that problem with pictures not deleting, I'll have teddy look into that the next time I talk to him. As far as the TW launcher goes, I don't use it, but it's possible that it still has some bugs, it was ported by Fr4gg0r and is a fairly recent release if I remember correctly.
Gallery issue has been added to the issues list.

I'm not getting any force close on entering an Exchange account, which field are you adding numbers in?
I'm also not finding any FC in the alarm notifications, did you try wiping the Dalvik-cache after you flashed, if you restored your data?
So, I put together a couple of flashable zips for use on a stock phone. I've been using these for a little while now, and feel comfortable enough about them working to share.
Basically it just removes a bunch of stuff that comes pre-installed on your phone, and replaces your stock Sense launcher with either the stock Gingerbread launcher or Go Launcher EX.
I personally like GO the best out of all the launchers available, but until I had this phone I didn't have a piece of hardware capable of using GO to it's fullest. Now that I can, I love it.
Special thanks goes out to:
Undeadk9 for compiling the stock Gingerbread apps from Google.
computerkid23 for letting me use his update-binary file & market version.
*These mods are mostly just working examples. Someone will probably find them useful, I do, but they were primarily posted to support my info thread on edify scripting notes.
*We can see that these actions can be accomplished in a small enough file to be posted to the board as an attachment, yet this also means we rely on the user's stock software being intact.
*If someone has already removed an app, these zips will not replace them. Exception being launcher, calculator, music and if Mod02 then the market as well.
*If something has already been deleted, then it just gets ignored when the script gets to it. It won't throw an error if it tries to delete something that's not there.
On to the description of what's being done:
Here's what's removed:
-Themes, Live wallpapers
-Widgets:
Both tips widgets, all the widgets that don't work when you stop using the sense launcher.
Calculator, calendar, mail, photogrid, photo widget, setup widget and weather widget.
-Following apps:
AppSharing, Adobe Reader, Android Notes, Bejeweled, doubletwist, Flickr, Friendstream, Facebook, Picasa, Netflix, Slacker Radio, Swype, Twitter, Zinio.
-And:
Mail, Media Room, HTC Setup Wizard, Car Home, HTC Music + Enhancer, Google quick search box.
-Also:
T-Mobile TV, Name ID, App-Pack, Mobile Backup, T-Mobile Carbon Backup, Qik (video chat), Tmobile Navigator.
Click to collapse
What's replaced:
-Calculator...broken stock calculator replaced with the gingerbread calculator.
-Music - replaced with the stock gingerbread music app.
Click to collapse
The only difference between the two flashable zips:
In Mod 01:
-Sense launcher replaced with the stock Gingerbread launcher...keeps the stock market.
In Mod 02:
-Sense launcher replaced with GO Launcher EX, computerkid23 market replaces the stock version.
You still keep the T-Mobile "My account" app, the stock weather app, and a handful of other thngs:
-Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Flashlight, FM Radio, Gallery, GMail, Messages, Phone, polaris Office, Quick Lookup, Voice recorder and search, Weather, Wifi calling, wifi hotspot and youtube.
All stock TV connection software is still good and ready, as well as the stock browser.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Pre-requisits:
-Stock phone, no custom ROMs
-Clockworkmod 4.0.0.9
-Clockworkmod backup of your phone before flashing this zip
-Backup of any user data, such as phone numbers or notes
-Fully charged battery.
-Download and put in the main directory of your sdcard:
+ Blue6IX_Mod01 -or- Blue6IX_Mod02
To install:
-Un-plug the phone from any chargers or cables
-Reboot to recovery
-Select 'install zip from sdcard'
-Select 'choose zip from sdcard'
-Select 'Blue6IX_Mod01.zip' (( or Mod02 if thats what you downloaded ))
-Select 'Yes - Install Blue6IX_Mod01.zip'
-Press the hardware back button to get back to the main CWM menu
-Select 'reboot system now'
-IMPORTANT LAST STEP:
-Leave the phone alone for 5 minutes after it finishes booting up. Don't play with it or make it do anything, just let it sit and settle.
It's still building the data partition and re-writing your cache memory, if you play with it before this finishes you could get errors down the line. You won't see all this happening, so just be patient and wait a few minutes.
...and that's it. All done.
-ONE LAST NOTE:
* The clockworkmod backup of your data is important, as this installation file will simulate a factory reset during it's execution. This means any data that's on the phone will be wiped clean, so if you don't back it up before you start you will lose it.
Enjoy!
Reserved in case I need it.
Meantime, i'd like to say thank you to all the people working so hard to develop ROMs and software for our phone.
Thanks!

However when I try to install, I get 'Application not installed'

However when I try to install, I get 'Application not installed'
Any help please?
Thanks in advance
Also which of Undeads roms are the fastest - senseless or the other one? ?

I like to know things, just to know how they are done too - so I can appreciate the sentiment of wanting to know even if just for being curious.
I don't like having google talk on my phone either - but you will find that you need it to show certain apps in the google market.
You mentioned you had root explorer, which is awesome. If there was one tool you needed to pay for to really work with your phone on your phone, that is it.
Since I know you can follow along, let's look at what it takes to get rid of Gtalk.
First you have to know what the .apk file is, if it has an .odex file, and where the data directory is. Check my Reference to find that out.
Here is the entry for Google Talk:
Talk
Version: 1.3
983.17KB - /system/app/Talk.apk
/data/data/com.google.android.talk
Click to collapse
So we can see one .apk file, no .odex file, and one data directory.
1 - Kick up root explorer on your phone and go to /system/app and delete Talk.apk
2 - Still in root explorer, navigate to /data/data and find the folder named com.google.android.talk - delete this folder.
3 - Reboot phone into recovery mode. Once in clockworkmod:
4 - Clear cache from the main CWM menu, by selecting 'wipe cache partition' and then saying yes on the next page.
5 - Clear dalvik-cache. From the main CWM menu choose 'advanced' then 'wipe dalvik cache' then 'yes'. After it's done, hit back then 'reboot system now' from the main cwm menu.
That should be it and talk is now removed from your device.
To re-install Talk:
I attached a copy of the stock talk.apk - if you want to re-install it and were having trouble, try it this way:
1 - Download the attachment to this post, get it on your phone.
2 - Open root explorer, find Talk.apk and copy it. Paste it into /system/app
3 - Once Talk.apk is in /system/app, in root explorer long-press on it to get a menu of options. Choose permissions.
4 - Change the permissions to read:
-Owner - Checked boxes = Read + Write
-Group - Checked box = Read
-Others - Checked box = Read
-Bottom row of permissions all unchecked.
After hitting "ok" you should see that the Talk.apk permissions look like all the other files in /system/app, where it says rw-r--r-- under the file name.
5 - Exit root explorer, then reboot your phone into recovery mode.
6 - Clear cache from the main CWM menu, by selecting 'wipe cache partition' and then saying yes on the next page.
7 - Clear dalvik-cache. From the main CWM menu choose 'advanced' then 'wipe dalvik cache' then 'yes'. After it's done, hit back then 'reboot system now' from the main cwm menu.
That's it, you now have Talk re-installed on your phone.
You won't be able to find google talk on the market, even if you log in from a computer and aren't signed in to an account.
Let me know if that's what you needed, or if you have any other questions.
I want to use this but im having hell getting these 4.0.0.9 line commands to work. Ive tried everything line for line but no success. any suggestions?
p.s the recovery image has .img at the end and i copied it from sd card to data/local.

Comes with (a translated) NoTelURL app to prevent USSD/MMI exploit. Thanks to the developer Joerg Voss.
Why MIUI ?
It's my favorite ROM. I have checked almost every ROM in this forum and I always come back to this one.
It's incredibly customizable (themes for every possible feature), runs smooth as hell, as stable as can be and all in English/Hebrew.
Jelly bean like task manager built-in : Long press home button brings you a visual button to kill all apps and a task manager.
Jelly bean like full screen toggles - actually Google copied it from MIUI short press to activate/deactivate, long press to get to the specific settings.
Great lock screen with 4 quick options, music player controls, album preview image and digital music bars.
HiFi music player with automatic album image and lyrics download and presentation, built in equalizer and tilt to forward.
Screenshot functionality.
Excellent system apps - browser, file explorer, music player, sound recorder, backup utility, data usage monitor, app autostart, firewall, anti virus - the best you've seen.
Immediate hot boot.
Cool graphics and more.
About 160-200MB free RAM (!)...
Easy to use touch screen TWRP recovery.
FYI
1. SIM card contacts are not available - you have to sync it with Google before flashing the ROM, to be able to have them.
Don't forget that!
I also used the VCF exported file from Samsung contacts.
2. This is an MTD ROM, so if you don't follow instructions carefully you can and will damage and void your phone, IMEI number and functionality.
Back up and save your EFS according to instructions below, before flashing -> or deal with the consequences!
3. To set up NoTelURL to always get activated when you launch suspicious dialer codes - go HERE with your phone (it's a USSD/MMI code test site)
and choose "NoTelURL" as default app for this operation.
Regular phone numbers links will be allowed to call upon confirmation.
Known issues
1. TV-Out, Call recording and 'WiFi calling' are not working.
2. If you suffer from same color background and text in messages, it's because you applied a GB theme over ICS.
I recommend applying "Black android V4.1" (basically all V4 marked themes are for MIUI ICS.
I use it for all except for 'locking method' (I prefer MIUI's original) and 'others' & 'notification bar' where I applied SGS3 theme (to get SGS3 icons in system settings and non transparent notification bar).
They are attached in post #4 and defined in MIUI themes app.
3. To be able to use your own mp3s for notifications, alarms and ringtones - you need to put them in system/media/audio/... {use root explorer or similar app, fix permissions afterwards}.
4. There's a Whatsapp silent notification sound bug on MIUI.
I modified Whatsapp installation to utilize the default system notification sound and it works.
It is available here and comes with the ROM.
Some pictures from HebMIUI :

Installation instructions :
Upgraders from previous versions :
1. Go to recovery.
2. Wipe Cache partition.
3. Wipe Dalvik cache.
4. Flash ROM.
5. Reboot system.
6. Use MIUI toolbox to calibrate battery. follow instructions.
New comers (for GB BML ROM, If you're on CM9/AOKP go straight to step 7) :
1. Backup everything :
a) Synchronize all your SIM contacts to Google. They will not appear in an MTD ROM such as this.
b) Back up all your user apps in Titanium backup.
c) Make a nandroid backup of your ROM through CWM recovery.
2. Download the following :
Team Acid files
efs-backup
efs-restore
HebMIUI V8.4 ROM
Google Apps
SGSIII & Black android V4.1 themes (extract to SDCard\MIUI\themes)
3. Put efs-backup on your SD card and flash it through CWM recovery. It will create 2 EFS backup files.
4. Copy SD Card including the EFS backup files to your PC/Mac.
5. Put HebMIUI zip on your SD Card.
Make sure you have the EFS created backup files from section 3 on your SD card root.
6. Go to Recovery (use hardware buttons - Vol+ & Volume- & PWR. once splash shows, leave the PWR while keeping the volume buttons pushed).
Make sure it's at least CWM5, otherwise flash a newer kernel) and return to recovery.
a) Wipe Cache / Partition.
b) Advanced - Wipe Dalvik cache.
c) Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
d) Mounts and storage - perform Format System.
e) Perform mount /system.
f) Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
7. Install from Zip file - choose the HebMIUI ROM zip.
Follow aroma instructions. If you were on GB - you will be rebooted after BML-->MTD transition and need to repeat installation.
8. Flash Google Apps.
9. Reboot system.
10. Wait for 10 minutes.
That's it! Enjoy!
You can set the themes I put here (in MIUI themes app) if you want to.
Notes :
1. MultiLing O Keyboard has the lowest memory print comparing to any other keyborad supporting slide typing. That's why I included it.
2. Rocket Dialer was added for better Hebrew dialer and contacts support that will last through all MIUI themes.
3. My experience shows that MIUI music player doesn't enjoy audio MODs.
It has its own EQ. If you still want to use music mods - push Apollo.apk from CM9/Beastmode's miui and use it instead of MIUI music player. Not sure it's worth it.
It does work great with VoodooSound free app, which is also crucial if you want to record a live shows with loud audio.
4. Personally I prefer Nova launcher over MiuiLauncher. Also included in installation.
5. If you want to go back to Samsung (BML) ROM (such as HebrewValhalla or HebrewBarebone), go here - HebrewBarebone and follow instructions.
6. How do I know on which HebMIUI version I am? Go to settings --> about phone --> Build.
You will see: MIUI2.8.10 HebMIUI XX_TW or MIUI2.8.10 HebMIUI XX_NT, where XX represents the version number and TW=Tweaked, NT=Not Tweaked.

Hi m4127440
Personally I think first S series of Samsung has crappy TV-out quality.
After getting used to crispy HD movies, using this is not much of an option for me.
As you said, it's not part of the MIUI ROM functionalities anyway, so...

OK, let me get this straight, maybe I missed something.
I was on Valhalla Final BML, backed up EFS, left the EFS backup on SD, flashed the ROM zip and got to the ROM. didn't have to format system or wipe data or anything.
what is your suggestion ? 'cause the low storage is driving me nuts.

Hi Erik,
You're right. Now I have 484MB internal RAM free !
Installation instructions updated...
Now that installation instructions are updated, most of the issues and bugs are gone and not reptoducing.
Please re-read the first 4 posts, as I updated them.
I will look into the call recording issue, I think it needs and can be fixed.

keep that good work tzik2sh I already update your thread in the wiki:laugh:
I read a bit.
Call recording is first illegal in the US, second it is kernel dependent.
In my country it is completely legal and it's useful with telemarketers. I once asked AntonX to add it to basic with a twist kernel, but at this point it is over my head and I'll have to look for Erikmm or Hampsterblade's magic.
Edit: maybe this can help...

I'm not a lawyer, but I've heard that call recording in the state of California is legal as long as both parties know that the call is being recorded, which is why you get a lot of "Your call may be recorded or monitored for quality and training purposes" when you call up a lot of customer support places. If you don't want your call recorded you can hang up, but since they tell you that it might happen, they can record.
I wouldn't mind having this functionality enabled after an automated announcement to both sides, but I do want telemarketers to stand for what they say and have an evidence on my side.

I'm running CleanROM with the TouchWiz MMS app. I would like to have both the AOSP and TouchWiz MMS apps (because picture messages work much better with the TW app installed but I like the CM10 MMS features). Is this possible? I''ve pushed (copy to /system/app, set permissions, reboot) the one from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921429
And pulled one from Beans' ROM zip, and I can't get it to install. I'm thinking it isn't possible to have two system MMS apps... is this the case? Is there any way to install both? Thanks a lot for the help!
