Ok, so early today i was working and my brand new S3 was swiped off the front desk while i was taking a call during my night audit, before you ask why it was on the front desk, im an on-site specialist and manager of sales for Hilton Hotels in my area, and before i even get to look at the security tape i wont be sure if that person has already checked out or not since i have to talk to the hotel owner about viewing the security camera hard drive. So a few questions about it since this is the first time i had to do a phone claim since i always need my phone by me for work.
1. How should i go about claiming this?
2. Will it cost anything, i pay for the extra money on my bill for the insurance plan?
3. How does the process usually work?
4. And finally can i go to a local AT&T store and claim it or atleast get a new SIM card to use in a old phone i have?

OK so here's the story:
I've been an AT&T customer for over 10 years now. My dad has worked for AT&T for 42 years (through the company's various iterations) so I get a nice discount (just because I'm an adult doesn't mean I can't share a family plan). I should mention I also pay for the entirety of the account, since I forced my parents to get cell phones about 10 years ago.
Anyway, I'm moving to Verizon when the Galaxy Nexus is released (still hoping for the 8th, but who the heck knows). I was planning on just porting my number to Verizon, but now I'm kind of wondering if I should port my number to Google Voice, then just use it with my Verizon phone. Is this feasible? Will I have a seamless system, or will there be a number of steps I have to go through every time I want to make a phone call, send a text, etc...
The biggest questions I have are these:
I've heard GV can't send/receive MMS. The information I've found has been somewhat spotty. Is it possible to send and receive MMS using Google Voice as my primary system?
Are there are any big drawbacks to using GV for my main number?
If I port my number to GV, what will I have to do with my AT&T line until I move to Verizon?
Thanks in advance, all. Just trying to sort this stuff out before jumping ship to the Big Red. If I come up with any other questions I'll be sure to come back here =P

Hi all, this is my first post here. I'm relatively tech-savvy but mobile development isn't my forte. Anyway, I've tried many search strings on the site but I haven't found a directly relevant answer.
Essentially the issue is I have a grandfathered service plan from approximately 2004 where I'm getting data for $5/month. I was using a lame HTC Touch Pro until it shattered. Unfortunately, to purchase a new smartphone (figuratively anything that isn't a flip phone), I would need to enter into a new contract on their exponentially more expensive terms. Additionally, I'm going to get nailed with all kinds of new bull**** fees (a 4G fee when it has barely been developed in NYC). Obviously I'm hoping for a more cost-effective approach.
Furthermore, I saw someone briefly mention in another thread that the OP could just buy a phone outright. I'm wondering if purchasing a phone unlocked and then somehow activating it on Sprint's network or some other hack would be possible. Price is a significant constraint; it's not feasible for me to drop $750 on an unlocked smartphone, so it's preferable if I can find some kind of workaround that's subsidized.
Thanks for reading through this, hope you can lend some advice on the optimal solution.
Sprint won't accept unlocked phones. I don't think there is a such thing as a unlocked cdma phone.

Well how would we know?
That's something only vodafon can answer, if they will do that.
Also sounds like you are trying to keep the insurance money and your recovered phone...
Insurance scam
Hi Guys
I've finally decided to leave Sprint due to lack of coverage in my area. I already am in the process of moving to a GSM network and am close to the point where I want to actually sell my year-old EVO Shift. I've never sold a CDMA phone before, when I sold my Milestone, I just pulled the SIM, wiped the memory and reflashed the OS to Stock. (Pretty easy) But I'm not really sure what I should do to sell a Sprint phone, as my account info must be tied to the IMEI.
Wiping the memory will be easy, I've already rooted and installed CyanogenMod7, but what else should I do to deregister my device (other than canceling the contract) and prepare my phone so somebody else on Sprint will be able to use it?
That said, anybody here want to buy it? Except for one little dent, it's in great condition - no screen scratches whatsoever and the battery still gets a good 36 hours or more. And as said, it's already been set up to run CM7. If you're interested, make me an offer - I'm not expecting a lot.
Try the xda marketplace you might find a buyer there.

How much you selling it for? I might be interested. I'm pretty sure once you cancel your contract the phone should be able to be reactivated as long as you pay all cancel fees and there's no balance left on your account. Just to verify, i'd call sprint and ask them if you'd still be able to use the phone later should you decide to return to sprint (play that angle so they don't get too suspicious)
Anyway ... PM me about the phone.

Wi-fi everywhere. Do NOT want data plans. Questions:
1. Does just having a "smart phone" allow US carriers to make you pay for data?
2. What is the BEST (read cheapest) plans for 4 phones, no data, but unlimited texting?
I am sick sick sick of paying a min imum of $20 for each phone to have data when 2 of the phones are not even smart phones! the are for my 2 kids and T-Mobile is charging me $20 each for those dumb phones!!!
Please help!
Easy
You can easily have a smartphone and use it on any plan that will allow you to install a SIM card. Of course the phone will have to be either unlocked or used with the same company that it is locked with, just like any other phone. If you have no dataplan with your account you will no use any but can still connect with WIFI.
ya I know a few people who have smart phones with no internet plan, I think that they only really require it if you sign up for a new contract to get one.
Just make sure that you disable all internet abilities for your apps otherwise you will be getting a huge bill in the mail by going over lol
