Google Now for ICS? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey Infusers,
I was perusing the app section of the general Android forum here and found this project which I think is worth looking into.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1747224
How can we be sure this works on our device without risking a brick? And which ROMs are considered AndroidOpenSourceProject? I'm currently running CM9, am I good?
Thought it would interest some of us still waiting for Jelly Bean to become a little more stable. ^___^

JB is working great... cm 10 preview... camera and all..
Google now launches nicely...

Unless they changed something, it definitely works with our device. There was a post on lifehacker about this like the day after jelly bean was released. I had it on my infuse running ics up til switching to jb. U used to have to change a build prop setting but I think I heard that is what changed with the new package. And there wasn't working voice search at that time.
But as the previous poster said, I would just switch to jb. It has almost same functionality of ics.

I think the early work some of the developers have done here has given us an early preview of what we are in for. It looks great so far, best and smoothest my nexus has been.
I think you'll get a better idea though if you read the threads found in the developers section. When reading a thread titled "jelly bean" I get all excited expecting to find OTA is here and ready to flash. Instead I'm leaving my opinion on an SDK based version of 4.1 I feel like a child who just found out Santa has still not been.

Honestly, I'm not noticing a drastic difference but I've only tried the port so I'll reserve my judgement until a full asop or OTA arrives.

im still on Gnex port with sevice pack4.
what i can say is, that for now im in love with JB...
Those animations, smoothness, speed, new notification[ although i would prefer i u could take a peak with one finger, instead of two, cuz u cant do it with one hand}.
MULTITASKING- first time since ive started using android, i can finally say; ITS WORKING- fast and smooth..
not sold for now on GOOGLE NOW, ive found it not useful for me at all, i would like it much more interacting with other apps.
BTW jelly bean will shine on new phones, our is bit outdated ...
Can we keep all JB releated posts into the one JB related thread here --> Jellybean Countdown to OTA Thread: Nexus S Edition
Thanks.

multitasking in xoom?

Hi there, just wonder about multitasking here in xoom, it would be really usefull to run two apps on the same screen.
Any ideas if these will be availabe in JB or throw some launchersmetc?
Jellybean does not support this, but if I remember correctly there was a add on being developed that supported this but I can't find the link now.

Maybe Cornerstone
I think you are looking for Cornerstone.
Look here: http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/index.php
And here you can find a Xoom ICS ROM version:

I read some time ago about some app that has the featre that lets you divide screen in three parts and use three difeents apps but cant find it anywhere now...
@dclas
The ICS link directs to empy folder - I've seen it before, think it was from 2011 or so...re cornerstone, read thats its not completed and has more bugs than jb and its not stable... but thanks for links
It is corner stone that you are thinking of, and no it isn't done yet. Still highly buggy the last I heard.

Links to all Roms can be found in the Infuse Super Everything Thread.
What is considered "good" varies depending on the person.
Though the best 'stability' would probably come in a Gingerbread rom, since they don't have any features missing.
However, if you don't mind a few (and I consider trivial), issues such as choppy HD video recording, I would definitely recommend a JellyBean rom such as CM10 or, my favorite, Paranoid Android.
They both are stable, smooth, and fast running Roms, and tend to have much better battery life!
Thanks a lot will check em out. One thing how is slim bean jb doing you know?

I'd like to also add that Slim bean has been running the fastest and smoothest for me out of all of the 4.1.1 roms. The only downside with slimbean is choppy 720p recording. but Ive gotten past that. I rarely record video, and at 720p at that. I recently tried the new REMICS-JB based on Slim bean and that is fantastic if you like the new touchwiz. OC'd at 1600 and it runs like an S3
Thanks a lot! I flashed slim beam and it was legit but I will try the other one!

Jesus.. another of these threads?!?!
Dude, not being a **** or anything.. but do some legwork and read about different ones.. asking for people to post links for you is incredibly lazy... if you can't be bothered to do your own research, how do you expect people to do it for you?
Its powered by Jellybeaned AOKP!
I went from Froyo to Jellybean, first time ever using any ROMs and I love it!
Unfortunately, the things I use most, the Bluetooth and Camera/Video recorder do not function properly in Jellybean.
So I am probably going to go back to stock gingerbread with some of the enhancements/tweaks.
Just wanted to share.
I did do research ok so don't be quick to judge sorry I wanted other people's input in it.

I would love to see an HTC Sense ROM ported to the Infuse! Sadly I don't think I would be of much help on the developing side, I wouldn't mind being a tester if you ever happen to need one though.
Sweet, thanks. Once I have time, I'll start working on it. And as far as testing, you'll be the first one
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
If its no problem I'd like to join @some_shyguy with testing it
Sent from my Samsung Infuse running CM10.1
Yeah, that's fine. Although the ROM will work for the most part, please expect major problems with it, since it is a port of a port.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Thats not really a problem. If you don't mind my asking, what version of Android will it be running?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
IIRC, it will be running 2.3.6/2.3.7. I do believe that it uses CM7 as a base, so expect those issues as well as other
But we already got much faster smoother and more stable jellybean!
I don't see why would you want old sense UI
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
That's not the point. I just wanted to know if there was interest in it.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It's harder then you think....
First you got to find an HTC device with a similar (preferably same) chipset...which is rare since most htcs run qualacom hardware
A while back I did find a device with pretty much the same chipset that should be useable...gotta see if I still have its ruu (ruu is HTC official Rom release...actually stands for Rom update utility)
You then gotta extract the ruu contents (requires both windows and linux...)
Then you need to build the infuse kernel from source changing the bootclasspath in the init.rc and other stuff relating to sense instead of touchwiz
I'm not saying its impossible...and its still something I would like to do...but unfortuantly I just don't have the time to really do anything anymore due to school and work...and I recently got into league haha...so when I'm not working or at school I'm either with friends or playing league...but usually I'm at work or school. Oh yeah my infuse also got stolen...so no device to work with anymore (damn car fishers)
That's the basics...theres a few tutorials on how to port sense to no sense devices that can help you...just google how to port sense
Anyways, good luck...thus reply was mainly.to let you know what your in for and what kind of computer setup your gonna need (dual booting linux/windows)
Edit oh yeah...pretty sure the device I had found had an ics 4.0.4 stock Rom...at least for Iraq users...but English should still be an option in that Rom and if its not we can always add it in...anyways ill let you know later if I can find the ruu/device for you to work with
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Not to be mean, but I've got the hard part covered. There's a sense port for the captivate that rums on top of cm. I'm not saying that its going to be super simple, its also not going to be as hard as you described.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I think were talking about similar but different things...
I think your talking about taking an sense Rom that's already been ported to a non sense device and then porting that port to us
I'm talking about taking an official HTC sense release, extracting the contents for a flashable zip and porting that
Regardless either way requires kernel work as the init.rc needs to be edited -which is an easy task for those who can work with source
Anyways, goodluck the more options the better...there will definitely be people wanting this as its unique for the infuse
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, if I wouldn't have owned a captivate, I wouldn't know about all of this, and I wouldn't even attempt this. And yes, I'm talking about a port of a port. I'm by no means a dev, but I'm slowly learning, and I thank you for your help.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Since I've never seen a captivate port for us...here's a sense Rom for the galaxy s...galaxy s is the device we port most of our Roms for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593939
Idk how that compares stability wise as it seems to have some fairly big bugs (WiFi) anyways...that's just another option
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

Farewell Infuse

Thank you to everyone on the infuse forum. Just when I thought I was over the phone, a new Rom would come out. Keeping this phone exciting.
But... I finally bit the bullet and used my upgrade. ATT gave me $63 for my Infuse. So I used this towards a $99 LG Optimus G.
Unfortunately there is not much activity for the Optimus at this time, but I'm loving the quad core processor
Again thank you all and farewell

I made the same change last month. No regrets at all. The G is awesome stock rooted with frozen bloat.
I may though, inquire with scot about trying to port beanstalk over.........

That would be awesome! Scott's beanstalk build is fantastic.
Did you see this:
"Also... I have added a 'how to build/port' guide to Post #3 on the first page. It is intended to build/port the BeanStalk build to other devices besides the infuse. Please let me know if you have any questions"
That was posted by Scott
If you do port it, I will definitely flash and test

I tried to keep infuse for another 2~3 months but I broke the screen... and I had to pay $180 if I want to repair it
So I was forced to use my upgrade(no penalty), and I went for optimus G as well.
It's been about 3 days and I like it even as just stock since there is too much free ram...
But I kinda miss infuse already lol. It was my first smart phone, and I really had fun with it.
The infuse was a solid phone, especially loved all the development activity here.
The optimus is a powerhouse though!
